As an Autobody instructor, I love passing on this knowledge to others. But I am fully aware and often tell others, you dont need to go to school to learn how to work on cars, you just need to try. I appreciate you showing the trial and errors and even admitting you “havent done this before” you are doing more than most would dare to attempt. A lot to be proud of, John!!!!
Great episode, cool task to tackle and you got to do and learn some new stuff! There is room for improvement but you know it and the next time it's going to be better. Keep it up 👍🏻
Love the effort... Suggestions: 1) Add less seat back angle to give your upper back a "bit" more support. 2) Lengthen the bottom about 4-5" inches and add a thicker pad under the thigh area. 3) Build or modify existing sliders for seats. You have vertical room galore... would only add about 1.5" to seat height and GREATLY increase cool factor and suit other drivers. 4) Find a local shop to build covers for you, then cover and staple over your foam. MUCH easier than buying a sewing machine.
Just watched this. My first thought when seeing those seats and your plan with leather, was that you would pick some brown, smooth leather and laser ingrave Ludwicks Garage on the back rest😊
My personal opinion is to go with a Wilwood pedal setup in the car. You can bolt it wherever you want and not have to worry about getting the factory VW pedal assembly to work. Just a thought. Keep it up dude!
Thanks Mike! Long overdue for an advice session call 😂. I’ve been planning to convert to a hydraulic clutch setup to make mounting a pedal assembly easier.
Really digging the new style intros! The seats turned out great John! I’d be just as psyched as you. Rad update man. Can’t wait for more ! So many cool projects. Don’t you want to add a MK1 rabbit pickup to the list? Would love to see how you would bag one of those. Love the channel! Keep up the hard work it’s paying off !!🤙🏽🤙🏽
Nice job on the seats. For the pedals I would cut the stock section out of the tunnel where the factory pedals go and then put it where you want it and weld the piece you cut out back in the old hole . Your gonna have to shorten your cables tho I also feel like your shifter is gonna be too far forward you might be able to bend it back and lengthen it so you don’t have to shorten the shift rod
When I first saw the acrylic on sides didn’t like it but when you placed the seats inside the car I realised it was the black vinyl that was off! Matching white/cream leather with audi or LG engravings would look sick and someway more ”vintage”
Wow that Volkswagen is the baddest car you've had in your driveway since the Mercedes that was custom. I love the vehicles that come to your house that are actually painted
I have suspicions the pleather wont last, because I've never seen an office chair last more than a week before starting to flake. One trick I do know, a LOT of Jaguar's "leather" from the 90's was actually vinyl. Its actually very convincing and comfy as its foam backed like your cushion.
I know this car isn't exactly safe, but I would have made the seat frame metal and then bolted the pads to the aluminum frame for more structural integrity.
just my 2cents- id go distressed brown leather to match the rust ! 😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Agreed! Maybe engrave the Audi OOOO into the uppers or something too!
Nice job on the seats and for daring to take on upholstery work, haha. Your acrylic work always takes your projects up a notch, I love it!

And even if you do it wrong a few times. You gotta remember it’ll need get done if you don’t start
@@HFV_Junkyardin Thats for sure my friend!
Love the progress!! After hearing you talking about your music on the OC Podcast, I am glad to hear your music! Super awesome. Keep it up!!
Cream color leather would've been the route I went but the seats look amazing in the car. I really like the acrylic overlays!
Very cool work, John. Those almond inlays pop.
Seats look great! Acrylic on the side was a great choice!
Those seats are dope, pretty sick for your first set!
Grait build
I also used the same Rotten Leonard seats as insperation , in my volksrod and followed with door cards in ally sheets , ad some rivets! 💯👍
Great episode! Man I enjoy watching your creative process.
Thank you!
Love it. Great work. I’d make the base 2 piece with the rear set down so the front is bolstered up with a tuck and roll.
Great episode, cool task to tackle and you got to do and learn some new stuff! There is room for improvement but you know it and the next time it's going to be better. Keep it up 👍🏻
Electric turkey carving knife works awesome on foam.
That’s a great tool hack!
@Cechaflo! He is a master with a deep catalog of videos for a 101 in strategies for upholstery. Keep going!

Man this makes my want to get some cool custom built seats in my civic hatch. Such a cool touch!
Damn……I’m exhausted 😂!Another great video
Ditto on the distressed brown leather suggestion. Looks great so far. Really dig the aluminum and beige acrylic!
Excellent job on the seats! Upholstery is one of the most difficult things to do too. 😎👍🛠
Great job on those seats man love it 👌🏻
Killer job John! The acrylic on the side is an excellent touch!! Keep it up, I know you’ll fine tune the seats to be perfect!
Gotta be happy with that mate. They look awesome 👍🏻

A navy blue upholstery would look amazing

Dude. Angle iron in the vice for the win 😂

Seats came out so good!
The knee bolsters are a good idea.
You could probably try using a heat gun on the vinyl to get rid of the creases
Man ya gotta post a video of you playing that intro on guitar. It’s killer! Even if it was just a Short.
Bro I’m loving your builds, we got to get together!
I use an electric carving knife to cut the foam, they work just as well as the high dollar upholstery knives.
My 2.5 year old loved this episode!
When I first saw the acrylic on sides didn’t like it but when you placed the seats inside the car I realised it was the black vinyl that was off! Matching white/cream leather with audi or LG engravings would look sick and someway more ”vintage”
Need a bed roller to finish off those sick accents on the seats .
I’m itching for one!
Valuable lesson learned.
Looking good 2x👍
Wow that Volkswagen is the baddest car you've had in your driveway since the Mercedes that was custom. I love the vehicles that come to your house that are actually painted
I think you should on the back do like a bead roll with ludwick garage press into the back and 1000sp on the other back of the seats
Saw the guest appearance on Dean of Machines at Octane and coffee 👍
Diagonal cut your fold over part so there is less material folded over then you can tighten each corner
Shaka🤙brah! well done, that little skate stink's 🏝🦈🤙👈
Sunday at its finest
Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You made them from scratch that look great
Awesome job on the seats! Had a thought why don’t you use the bomber seat shell and run the e24 rear seats as inserts?

Love it
You need too drill holes in the wood backs n sides of the seats so it won’t trap air and blow out your seams looks killer
23:03 Beautiful golf
Just mod the parcel shelf. The bumpers need to lay out! Do it right!
I know this car isn't exactly safe, but I would have made the seat frame metal and then bolted the pads to the aluminum frame for more structural integrity.
Thanks Bryan … for tuning in 😂
The corvair has to be the best workbench ever, if not the fastest😂
I wouldn't suggest going any thinner on the seat foam, they'll crush down.
Dude. take it apart and redo it... fix them seats. Great video
QUE AUTO ES ESE😮😮
Hey, im looking to make something like this for my van would you be willing to share the rough dimensions so i can have a starting point
can you post the file of the cut? i want to do the same seats
these look so good in the car! too bad you couldnt reuse the other BMW ones, they looked way too comfy.
You can’t go lower because the rear tyres touch the parcel shelf??? Dude, you’ve chopped the whole car up! Get the grinder out fella
I TOTALLY agree with this 😂, but it’s opening a giant can of worms in those pockets, and I’m not sure I want to venture in there 😂
second
fun project but the cushions look like trash and have to be binned
smart fella ...............but you say guys way to much
I feel like this was the 1st upload that everything went perfectly to plan with no issues at all🫣
