Once again EJ saved my life! Thanks a lot for this helpful video, I researched for hours because my STEP import renders not as expected. Now I know why. Great tutorial - as all of yours are!
Weww !! 7 years following EJ, from different websites to different techniques, and softwares. But I got to tell this " This man EJ is aging as fine as a red wine " Amazing to see you again, Knowledge sharing at its best.#eyedesynfan
I knew most of these settings but there was a lot of things I learned. How to control the hidden lines was something I was using the atom array as a workaround. To avoid flicker I was disabling Strokes in my materials altogether instead of trying some of the adjustments in the tutorial. There was also a lot of control tips about phong angle settings here I never knew. I put a ton of notes in an annotation tag so I remember.
Thats awesome to hear you learned some new techniques! I know flickering lines are always a difficult thing to remove! How were you using the Atom Array?
@@eyedesyn I used the atom array in any situation I wanted to see internal lines. I wasn't aware of the hidden line setting. When I finally rendered the model, I go some flickering. I even tried disabling Strokes altogether in my materials. That usually works for me. I wanted to keep that dotted line option though. This one was a challenge because the model was so complex. I'll take a look at your final model I downloaded and see how that works.
Another aawesome tutorial EJ, thanks again for all your efforts! I would love to see your take on "whiteboard" style animations in C4D using sketch and Toon.
Thank you so much EJ. I am loving C4D basecamp and eyedesyn supplements that material so well! This is something I have wanted to learn for a long time (sketch and toon) I'll be going to your prior tutorials now :) Have a great Easter weekend EJ! IG tag coming !!!

You are the man, thanks for this. Any idea how to get only sketch? I would like to save out an outline with a transparent background. I just cannot find a way to make the object transparent.
Thanks for the tutorial! If I would like outlines only, how do I remove the "fill" portion of the material? Edit: Ah I see. It's under the shading tab in sketch/toon render settings. Cheers
I'm working with the Cineware plugin and I'd like to composite with effects like Stardust using the OBJ motion parameters from Cinema 4D. Do you have a tutorial on how to achieve this? That is, how to port object positioning data from Cinema 4D to After Effects?
Dear @eyedesyn... I am trying to render a football hitting the goal... everything is perfect but just one issue... I cant see the football from the net... as net is rendered with background color so anything behind it is not showing... how can I actually render only lines of net without any background fill... basically I want to render the net movement on transparent so what ever I put in the background is visible from the net lines... is it possible?
Can this be used on a model that already has materials applied to it? I am 100% noob just trying to get this image done in C4D and when I try, the interactive render only shows black.
Hi Thank you for the tutorial ! I also bought the file because I planed to make a blueprint render of a spherical panorama but it appears that it won't work with this kind of render. Is there a way to adapt your preset to this kind of job ?
Im using cinema 4d 2025 with a 14th gen i9 and rtx 4090 and sketch and toon is not responding with the interactive render window. It should be updating in real time but its not. Any ideas what could be happening?
For some reason, my PC only runs at 10% load when I use this technique. It's taking forever to generate the lines, but then the frame instantly appears when done in the render viewer. I'm not sure why it's not using more resources and being so slow.
One of the downsides of Sketch & Toon lines is it's not multithreaded so it won't take full advantage of your processing power, unfortunately. Go bug MAXON about updating it! :)
I've been crossing my fingers for awhile that they'd update Sketch & Toon but I feel the way the industry is going they're not going to be updating any of their older renderers like Sketch & Toon...here's hoping with the Redshift acquisition that some kind of toon/sketch shader is added

Thanks! You mean how to render out the lines with Alpha? I cover that towards the end of the tutorial, render out the Post Effects multipass and it will render out each line type for compositing in AE where you can adjust the opacity of each! Hope that answers your question!
@@Fabitalism I had the same problem. I think it was because I applied the material to the object. You don't need to do this. The material properties are all applied within the renderer
MOBOX Graphics correct, you can add the lines globally in the render effect like I show or you can apply the stroke materials directly to an object via sketch style tag and have all the same options there. Sketch style tags will override the global effect
That's funny. I bought the final project file too, thinking it was for the model asset. I didn't read first. I don't mind at all though. I feel like I owe EJ way more for all the hours of knowledge over the years.

you can turn off the background & color altogether in the sketch & toon options and youll then be left with just the lines!

It only export the blueprint image not the animation itself. Thanks
