    One advantage of the BMM cargo hauling is that it is largest cargo ship that can land planet side. The larger hull series can only dock to a space station when full of cargo.

      Eugene, this is a fantastic point that I had overlooked! I suspect the profitability of being the largest planetside hauler will be highly lucrative! And with its shop synergy you can then have locals browsing aboard while you’re offloading that cargo! What a fantastic idea, thank you so much for sharing!

    This is actually something I came up with while daydreaming about this ship:
    But one thing you can do is pose as trader in order to infiltrate an enemy fleet. Put a Sabre Raven in your Hangar and just before you get close to the fleet, launch the ship and let it gather information about your enemies fleet prior to an attack. While the main fleet is distracted by your trade, the Raven can use its data collection to gather vital intel.
    Once it's all said and done, you could fly back, have your Raven land back in the Hangar full of data it collected. Then sell that Data to those who hired you. Not only do you make profit selling to the fleet, but also for the data you collected...
    Profit $$$

      SgtTeddybear59, thanks for watching the video and leaving this awesome idea!! I love the premise of having a stealth data ship that you’re running counter-Intel with! Hell, if you make good money of the trading it’s an added bonus haha.
      Funnily enough, I remember reading on Reddit about someone who wanted to land a herald aboard a BMM for data mining while posing as a buyer.
      It’ll be insane the level of role playing that could go into pulling off some of these higher-level ploys! I really think Chris and CIG are pushing for the type of game that caters to that play style, with tremendous freedom and robust gameplay mechanics in SC to support it!

    A BMM/Defender combo is my fleet flagship. Lore says the Banu use BMM's as both warships and blockade runners, hence the armor and heavy firepower. It is also well suited as a VIP transport using the guest quarters and Banu's love for ostentatious luxury. These are besides the role of trader and cargo transport.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely agree! It’ll be the ship I spend the vast majority of time, and what I’ll be starting the verse off with!
      I was entranced by the initial concept of traveling bazaar, flagship, blockade runner and alien home. These recent updates have only confirmed everything again and then some!
      Honestly I was expecting some opulence after the Defender, but I was not expecting that level of wealth or sophistication! While everyone’s tastes differ, I’d much prefer to stay in a room aboard the BMM compared to an 890 Jump any day!

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому

      @RAYfighter I feel similarly about dangerous combat missions, although I could see the BMM running plenty of exploration missions if that’s the ship people are on when something “pops.”
      I suspect people would rather jump right to the action (especially with what will be a massive best in class range on the BMMs Q drive), rather than wait to swap ships.
      But we shall see! I definitely see the Carrack as a dedicated best in class explorer, which is used to acquire the goods to then deliver to the BMM! I think even if the BMM can do a lot of things, it should be beat by the dedicated ships in those specific roles, just from a balance standpoint.

      @RAYfighter Hahaha, YES, I absolutely agree!!! I’m really hopeful CIG can keep metas to a minimum, although is suppose it’ll always be human nature to push for maximum efficiency in everything.
      But I don’t think you’ll be disappointed walking up to the BMM the first time you see it in your hangar! And I know for me personally, I’ll enjoy some good role playing and sightseeing! And I cant imagine a nicer vessel for me to do that in!

    When I first got the BMM it looked to me like a fast cargo hauler with an alien charm to it. But now........ Its nice to have something I can do a hell of a lot more with. I built my fleet around a BMM and Endeavors. These two ships pair synergistically, with the BMM serving as a sales outlet for items which have been "enhanced" by the particle accelerator, or cultivated in the Endeavor's bio-domes and processed in her labs.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому

      Mark Johnson, thanks for taking the time to watch the video and leave these great comments! That’s my plan as well, using Endeavors as a production facility for at least some of the goods which will be sold aboard the BMM!

    • @JohnVanderbeck
      @JohnVanderbeck 3 роки тому +2

      Yes this so much. I just need to figure out how to operate multiple ships at once lol!
      I wanted to do the same. The BMM being the central market and trading hub to sell the things I Mine, Salvage, Loot, or Create using the various other trade ships like the Orion, Reclaimer, Endeavour, etc. I just don't know how that will actually work in practice.
      I really feel like we need a way to hire other players. Like an actual game mechanic. Hiring them would give them a regular wage out of your bank account, give them access to specific ship permissions you give them but they can be "fired" at any time, reverting those permissions.

    • @scullycasey
      @scullycasey 3 роки тому

      @@JohnVanderbeck The answer will be org recruitment. Assuming that, after SC goes live, ships will no longer be available for sale other than on the gray market, there will be a lot of new players who will be eager to gain experience on the larger, more aspirational, ships early in their gaming experience. I plan to have a mobile colony, much like the Battlestar Galactica fleet, with miners and salvagers feeding into the Endeavors in turn feeding the BMM, with combat ships for area defense, and medical, refueling, repair and refitting support, and exploration vessels off base looking for the next likely locale when it's time to relocate. Thus, members of my org will have the opportunity to pursue whichever game activities most appeal to them, and to easily transition from one career path to another as they choose.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому

      @@JohnVanderbeck This is an excellent question, and one that CIG has yet to clarify specifically! Initially there were talks that multiple game packages would allow you to essentially have a free hireable NPC aboard, with some talks that it might also be a player which a friend can “free fly.”
      The only thing they were opposed to specifically, was having NPCs fly your other ships in any meaningful way (apart from deliveries). But with that said, having Org mates at least just at the helm, or even an alternate computer where you could keep a character logged in, seem to be the only currently viable options!
      While I suspect they will keep the majority of that, as Chris Roberts has been very specific in wanting the captain of the ship to be a player, we will definitely have to see how it all plays out! And thanks for taking the time to jump in to the feed and reply to some of the other comments, it really helps the channel and I really appreciate your engagement!

      the problem is, the game will be mostly npc driven, so no big orgs owning space , its more of a landmarks for building on moons , also the direction the game moves gives you the option to not interact with bigger orgs at all , and still get flithy rich. The BMM will probably be a good long range trading ship where you will be able to make a fortune on selling rare goods to different systems and not rely on landing somewhere. So sadly you must involve alot of RP to use it with the purpose you described . Everytime i seee those super organized EVE-like orgs i feel a bit sad that it will never have the economy or the player interactions eve is offering. People alrdy cried when you kill them when they pick up illegal-drugs at jumptown . Same goes for people that haul cargo alone and complain that they loose everything without a escort

      @@0BLACKESTFUN0 It’s true that NPC will define the majority of this Universe! Although seeing how big role-playing is in some of the largest Orgs, I could see there being a place for this kind of thing in game! And the BMM would be one hell of a ship to negotiate in!
      But I absolutely agree, unless CIG implements some kind of mission towards negotiation, the extent will largely be role playing, or emergent gameplay scenarios; wherein a BMM happens upon a war!

    It won't surprise me if the dollar cost of the BMM breaks the $1k mark due to how many features it has. (Same goes for the Carrack.) I'm in complete agreement of all of these listed, but I add in that eventually, it can be used as a bounty hunting headquarters hosting high end sting operations for pirate / criminal orgs & their players if not NPCs. Fill the shops with contraband that the criminals would want, have all of the shop agents be replaced with skilled bounty hunters & once enough criminals are inside, incapacitate them with non-lethal weapons, drag them to an Avenger Stalker (or Cutty Blue if it'll fit) & have that take them to be turned in for the reward. Rinse & repeat.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому +4

      Agreed, and I don’t think anyone should needlessly risk this ship in combat, as it will take an extremely long time to repair and there could be additional costs to reputation from the Banu Soli depending!
      But given its combat proficiency, using this ship to target much smaller ships and even working through the VHRT bounty hunting profession, I could see being highly profitable!
      Costs should be kept minimum as the predominance of the BMM’s weapons are laser canons (likely Tachyon), and with the BMMs ship armor it should negative most sub S3 ship weapons fire!
      I think the real differentiation for top-tier BMM pilots will be knowing when to engage and went to flee a situation. I see a lot of pilots being overconfident with this ship, and quickly being overwhelmed or outmaneuvered, especially if attempting to fly solo!

    I think the most overlooked use for the BMM is colonization support.
    The Pioneer will have 600 SCU of cargo space to haul building supplies - that’s not much of you’re trying to build a real outpost. Hauling building supplies and selling directly to the settlers will be very profitable.
    On the rogue/aggressive trading side of that, small orgs with minimal escort for their Pioneer can be leveraged with the BMM’s firepower - buy from us or kiss your outpost goodbye kind of thing. As a blockade runner, I think the BMM could also be used to enforce a blockade against settlers, further putting a squeeze on ‘customers’.

    You are the first person to leverage the BMM as a logistics ship. People talk about the mall for other players, not necessarily affiliated. Where it shines is as a depot for an Org. You can sell gear at cost from the mall to org mates that need resupply, without losing that much money. Being able to have a bunch of replacement armor, multitools, weapons, and armor available to your org at cost, discount, or even profit is a huge advantage for operating in the black for a long time. This means that your org mates aren't leaving the system to go restock all the time, instead just the BMM has to go back and forth when it eventually burns through its huge supply. With its SCU capacity, you can hold tens of thousands of weapons and armor pieces in reserve.
    This also applies to exploration, like you brought up.

    I plan on using the BMM as part of my own personal fleet. I'm going to be running around the verse searching for salvage and then rip. Components, fuel, left behind cargo and items out of them and transfer them to the BMM so they can be repurchased. Seeing the items just laying around and not being used doesn't feel right but being able to pass them off to someone who can makes it worth it. Of course if anything nice shows up it winds up in the bazaar otherwise it's stockpiled into the cargo hold.

    As a former soldier, the BMM as a drop ship doesnt work really. The lift for the cargo is to slow and to small to ensure fast deployment. And the BMM is to big to come down fast and get the troops out. :D
    But yeah, it will be a support and transport vessel for my ORION in my org. Or if we decide to go to a long exploration journey with my BMM and the org Carrack or Endeavour. Our fleet is planned for long time travel without needing much outside support like nomads.

      Hey Otto Normal, thanks for taking the time to watch the video, drop a comment and for your service!
      And I agree, the BMM is one really BIG ship! I definitely don’t see this dropping into a hot LZ anytime soon, especially with how sluggish the BMM’s flight handling would be!
      But depending on how they “gamify” Star Citizen, I could see it still functioning even if it wouldn’t make a great real world equivalent.
      In space I see the BMM working in this capacity as a snub carrier, opening the bay to let out a swarm of fighters. In low atmos like on moons, you could potentially drive out the opening without needing to wait for the bay to return altogether!
      But I see this best in situations where atmospheric conditions force ships to ground several km out from a point of interest (like the infamous 2016 Citizencon video). Then the fleet could deploy at a safe distance, with the BMM still bringing that force into the action!
      But I’ll likely use the ship as a long-distance deep trader as well! And I think it pairs excellently with the Endeavor, Orion and Carrack, as those ships can easily stockpile the BMM with its stores’ wares to then sell!

    Great video that earned you my sub :)
    I think the BMM also will be a great mobile piracy base/ship for a small group of friends aswell. Imagine a Liberator, a Crucible, a Starfarer, a Retaliator and some hard hitting fighters inside/on the BMM and Liberator like Hurricanes and Eclipses. A small self sufficient fleet (repair, refuel would be possible without landing/docking) that would be able to take down cargo carriers and its protection. That fleet could carry all the cargo it "obtained" and could also sell the wares directly using the BMM.

    • @rahlap2449

      Oh and "small group of friends" is relativ btw :)
      Anyway, the Crucible and Starfarer could stay away from the action and remain unmanned in an asteroid field or nebula. Once the attacking players return they can then man the Crucible/Starfarer and repair/refuel the fleet. That approach would drastically lower the amount of players that would be needed.

      Hey Galactic Jack, that would be a really interesting development! And thanks for watching the video and taking the time to drop a comment! A size 10 weapon would be INSANE on top of the 2 size 8s that the BMM has.
      I saw some speculation from Lawless Baron about the hidden S10, but I just don’t think this speculation was founded, even if the front end has similar housing designs. While I love the idea, the DPS from that would outgun combat dedicated ships even larger than the BMM, and would be a bit too unbalanced in my opinion.

    For me the BMM is both a home Base and a enabler, meaning I'd use the BMM (and whatever I'll put in it) as my base, rather than having a Pioneer build one for me.
    Also, I'm a huge fan of looting in RPG like Fallout/Skyrim.
    I'd take the ship from the BMM's Hangar while the BMM is safely stored away, explore caves and so on and bring the loot back to the BMM.
    I know doing this alone would be rather inefficient, since the BMM could easily handle a whole squadron of people dumping their loot into it and I hope to find others to do this with. But it's more about the Gameplay itself than maxing the profits.
    I never cared about the Kraken due to it's price (and I won't participate in F5-Wars), but I didn't know it couldn't land/take off when fully loaded.

      MadIIMike, this was a fantastic read, thank you for sharing this comment and taking the time to watch the video! And this is my intention as well, but in tandem with either a main base or various outpost I set up along the way!
      But I suspect that the BMM will be my primary home, especially given how vast and dynamic space is! With its likely massive quantum range, I’m sure the Merchantman will always be able to get to where something interesting is happening!
      As a fellow loot goblin myself, being able to get to those interesting places and have a ship to not just store but sell all those goods will be incredible!
      And the synergy with the defender makes such a fantastic addition! During Xeno threat I used the defender as my primary ship, because of the easy loading front entrance and powerful combat prowess! It kicked ass and was really easy to load, able to take the entire cargo hold from the whole StarFarer!
      And thankfully, CIG has confirmed that with crew requirements the majority of the time those positions will be filled by hire-able NPCs who are expected to make up 9:1 of the roles and positions seen in the verse compared to real players!
      On the ship I see them being able to either work aboard or have their wages paid by the ships/vendors!
      And interestingly, the BMM is the largest trader and cargo hauler in the game that is capable of landing and leaving atmosphere unassisted while fully loaded! The Hull D and E can’t ever land when their cargo grids are loaded (they must dock at space stations), and the Kraken must use other ships! I see this being a big advantage for the BMM!

      Atholl Moray, thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment! I’d love to explore this but just need a little clarification. Are you concerned CIG will create variants for this ship and the one you purchased won’t reflect the designs they mentioned? Like there will only be a medical BMM which has the medbay?
      Or are you referring to something else? I personally think the Merchantman will be more restricted than others in terms of modularity, and I could see them not creating variants for this ship. And in terms of the capabilities of this ship (and it being too op), I think there will be serious drawbacks like it’s sluggish handling (especially in atmospherics) and I can see it being outperformed by class-specific ships in the different tiers (aside from trading that is)!

    When did they confirm the hangar can repair? If so that's a big game changer.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Awesomenez Gamer, thanks for taking the time to ask a question! While they haven’t yet confirmed the BMM can directly repair from the hangar, they have stated that players can use hand repair tools and stowables aboard for some limited refueling/rearming in game.
      At the very least the hangar bay gives you a protected place to do that aboard the Merchantman!
      But with that said, I highly suspect the BMM will have advanced capacities to do this from within the hangar itself, at least with regards to the Defender specifically.
      Unfortunately we didn’t get an even longer panel, because it would’ve been fantastic to see some of the BMM’s future direction and to confirm more things!
      But based on lore, concept art, and it’s stated intentions, I foresee this hangar being incredibly useful beyond just a place to put a ship.
      For trading this is a separate secure entrance for other ships, but I suspect it’ll have a deeper unique benefit at least for Banu Defenders, where I think they will
      allow you to repair and refuel completely therein!
      While this current hangar setup only confirms limited repair and refueling via hand I suspect this will be expanded in future iterations. My reasoning is because the hangar isn’t bespoke and the developers hinted at a deeper interplay, and influenced by its in-lore use along with the most recent updates!

    • @15schmitd
      @15schmitd 3 роки тому +2

      @@ViciDeum yes, pluss many of the ships that could fit into the hanger are single person ships, so while "engineering" game play isnt in, when it is in, this will at least allow the pilot a safe space to get out of their size 1 craft and repair it at least by themselves. so even if the hanger has no tools, any good medium to large ship should have a repair tool stuffed in storage to fix the ship, and being the merchantman, i think there is space for a few repair tools in storage.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому +1

      @@15schmitd Absolutely agreed! And there’s a cargo area (labeled med bay) at the front of the hangar which looks like it could stow additional equipment for exactly that purpose!
      I suspect it may (given the labeling) have a Tier 3 med bay therein with some other utility features and space for cargo/storables. This would essentially have 2 separate med stations aboard the BMM, although I could also see some kind of access instead, just from there back to the med bay as well.
      Personally, I’m hoping the hangar itself directly allows ships to be repaired/refueled, or at the very least keeping that interplay with the Defender, and the existing capacity to hand repair/refuel any of the other S/M ships that fit!

    What really gave me a chill pill for the BMM is the fact that this is a multiplayers ship. You cannot reliably expect to do much with it solo. The size 8 guns, fully functional fighter bay and point defences are a huge game changer.
    In fact, Perseus owners should start to worry about the fact that the Nautilus has now a pair of S7 gun and the BMM a pair of S8. Even the Idris S10 is starting to sound lacking.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому

      Absolutely agreed! This is a ship that demands a crew, and I see as the flagship for an Org!
      Depending on how the hangar works out, running an Org from a BMM and having a crew of small ships refueling and repaired aboard a BMM’s hangar would be extraordinarily fun and useful!
      While I do some people inevitably running one solo, I can’t see that being a very successful operation!
      I do think a lot of balancing will come into play once armor values are properly implemented into game, where smaller arms fire won’t even be a consideration to larger ships. I’m very excited to see how it all plays out!

    • @brandonporter6223
      @brandonporter6223 3 роки тому +2

      One S9 gun theoretically is more powerful than 3 S8 guns. so no S10 gun is not lacking.
      And you're forgetting that the BMM has to maneuver the whole ship in order to hit a target with those S8. And the same thing with the Nautilus. A Perseus can shoot at anything in a 360 degree area whilst moving a forward. The BMM is powerful for sure, but its not going to dominate everything. A Polaris will ruin its day, hell even a retaliator with some good shots in could devastate a BMM, not to mention the new Ares ships, with physicalized damage taking out some thrusters is all you have to do to make those S8 guns A LOT harder to use. I'm not a BMM owner, but I'm seeing a lot of people panicking about the BMM buffs, but IMO this ship has its weaknesses and is not OP.

      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому

      @@brandonporter6223 I agree completely! Although after the most recent 3.14 combat balancing, 3 size 8‘ a could out DPS a size 10, seeing as 3 size 1’s out DPS a size 2 and even size 3’s currently!
      But I absolutely agree, the maneuverability of the ship will inevitably be its greatest weakness! That’s why I believe in combat, to be a memo excel in a zero threat type of vent where the targets are equally large, as long as there are enough fighters to help run escort!
      I actually see the BMM being countered by the Perseus, Ion and Inferno, due to their aggressive gun-based DPS, and noble handling potential since the BMM is likely sluggish but does have those 4 anti-missile and anti-torpedo turrets!

    A while back CIG talked about the fact that they do not want to release new ships that do not have their functionality in-game anymore. So, do you believe that CIG will actually implement shops and vendors just in time when the BMM finally releases? Or do you think that CIG will make it solely as a cargo hauler on release and then develop the other gameplay loop later?

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 роки тому +1

      That’s a fantastic question! I believe their intention is to keep this for any new concept ships, but with an overall philosophy towards every new release!
      That being said, I highly suspect that this ship will release first with limited functionality, as just a cargo hauler, before the shops are in place, just due to their complexity and ongoing technical limitations with the game.
      I anticipate that the tier zero implementation of the BMM’s shop design will likely be static NPCs that spawn with the ship initially, but we will definitely have to see how it all plays out!
      But I’m hoping that we get the BMM sooner than having to wait several years after production finishes for the full implementation of its features personally! Either way I can’t wait for this awesome ship!

    First of all, I like your videos so far. This is only my second. The corsair one and this one basically had the same use options, which should be a red flag for you. This is 4x the size of a corsair, both of which are not primarily designed for combat, yet both got that recommendation from you. There is a difference between being able to put up a fight when needed, and going out with the sole purpose of fighting.
    As for the BMM, I honestly do not know why they put 2x s8 on the nose of this thing. You will get one chance to fire those at a target. Anything smaller than an idris is going to easily stay off the nose of this shopping mall, meaning it will rely on turrets to defend itself. Taking a shopping mall into combat, exploration, and a drop ship situations would not be my suggestion. This thing is as much a drop ship as 2 football stadiums would be. This thing is absolutely massive. Try maneuvering 2 football stadiums in a combat situation. This thing is nearly a football field tall as well. Honestly if this thing turns faster than an iceberg, CIG will have completely lost it when it comes to ship performance metrics. Similar in size to an IDRIS. Larger than any other ships in game so far except the Javelin.

However, ships in different sizes can run the same gameplay loop but with some differences between them!
      For instance, while the Corsair and BMM share combat as one of their gameplay loops, they both differ and how they execute that! Well the course I would be more apt towards bounty hunting in its current matter, the BMM would excel in a Xenothreat type dynamic event, where is maneuverability against large targets won’t be an issue!

    I have the Merchantman and am so amped for the coming year. with size 8 guns and the way combat currently works i expect this to make relatively short work of a hammer head with just the pilot. clearly i dont see it taking down small ships solo, however it would be a good gunship if you got friends to go bounty hunting. cuz what is a small ship going to do? worst case scenario it has s9 torps. but then you have point defense guns. Also i got this then later thought of replacing it with the hull c or higher. thought about it, but as i traded with a catapillar then a hurcules c2, I was dealing with a lot of pirates and not having good defenses confirmed in my mind that i wouldnt want a space train (hull c thru e) i want cargo thats protected and a ship that can bite back, not just try to slowly limp away and put some poky quills like a porcupine. the C2 has some ok guns for the pilot but you realy have to have gunners or a escort ship to be protected. the merchantman looks like it can hit hard on the first hit. And has really good defenses. hope they put really good sheilds on it.

      Absolutely agreed! And thanks for taking the time to leave another really thoughtful comment with some fantastic speculation! I feel the same way and think the BMM will be a deadly threat in Bounty Hunting as well!
      I personally see the BMM struggling solo, as the Hammerhead could outflank its guns and put massive pressure atop its fighters; given good enemy AI performance that is haha.
      But fully crewed I see this ship being an absolutely terrifying opponent. With this ship I would blast last the HH, decouple at full speed, 180 and bring those big 2S8 back to bear on target! I imagine it’ll make quick work once those shots start landing!
      And I completely agree, having the internalized armored and shielded cargo hold of the BMM will really provide significant protection against a large number of threats, as certain armor values entirely negate smaller arms fire! Rather than the current health pools which can be slowly whittled down, you’d need massive guns just to bring down the armor of a BMM!

Best way is to just snipe them with cannons like with the 600i. I don't think the Banu will be that capable in combat.

      @@juleswoodbury58 I agree completely think that a solo BMM would definitely struggle. But paired with a good crew, and given both the scaling with distance and DPS on larger sized weapons, I suspect that the combat play style would be much different than the current meta, which relies on that maneuverability to survive long enough to whittle down shields.
      But once armor values are properly introduced, I think this style of gameplay will go away almost entirely, since the ships which could outmaneuver a hammerhead won’t have the penetration values needed to take down its armor. I want to get it but I have a lot of other money making ships. I'm on the cusp of just buying the rest of the ships in game. However, they say you'll possibly have to know the banu language to gain access to the bmm. And that it won't be an easy task. So buying one will probably be a lot more possible than actually earning one in game.

      I’ve seen this as well and suspect it’ll likely be how they reinforce the rarity of this (and other alien) ships within the game, by reputation gating them behind certain factions (speculatively specific Banu Soli in this case).
      While I think you’ll still be able to buy them outright on the in-game markets (circumventing this reputation cost) the UEC cost of them will be likely be outrageously high! The BMM would definitely be difficult to solo! Even with NPCs it likely wouldn’t be very efficient, but absolutely possible; technically every ship can be flown with one person! But with that said, if you own the defender in tandem, and had even one other real player alongside, I could see a small crew running this with NPCs viably! You could start this ship off running in a partial capacity before scaling to fill its full potential!
      And at the current price of $550, a CCU would be an excellent idea; even if only leveraging the inevitable price bump towards another ship! I personally own a BMM, and will likely operate it alongside a few other people in my Org! And a ship like this will gravitate players naturally, as both a point of interest and to join as crew!

    I have to also take issue with both Drop Ship and Explorer ideas. There is no indication that it has scanning at the level needed to be an efficient explorer and there is there no indication that there is anywhere for troops to be for drops. Understand that because both of these game loops have not been fleshed out yet there are needs that are not yet explained. There are no seats for jump troops on this ship, it's meant to handle a "Family" of traders, not 50 Troopers, there are no seats for them. Just because it can carry cargo does not mean it has the height and width to carry tonks or ballistas etc. Range and medical facilities do not make an explorer, scanning does, the rest helps but without the scanning you got nothing. Trading is what this ship is designed to do, it's freaking awesome at it, cargo hauling as a secondary but it's a large, complex system that needs to make a big profit to keep working. It is NOT able to do anything else efficiently.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Tim, thanks for taking time to leave such a detailed response! As I mentioned, these were just my speculative opinions. But I’m more than happy to support those positions, as they weren’t unfounded!
      You’re right that neither exploration nor capacities as a drop ship have been fully fleshed out, but we can infer a lot from what’s been developed so far. We know the Banu have used this ship in lore as their chief exploration vessel. Additionally, the holo table aboard the BMM shows a massive globe, which is often proportionate to star mapping capability. Additionally, it’s got a massive fuel scoop and medical stations, alongside the confirmed holo table!
      In its role as a drop ship, as mentioned in the video, the capacity of life support systems can be extended with shorter durations, and the main contingent of the force would be sitting within their vehicles aboard the gravity plated cargo hold, which could easily fit the number i mentioned!
      The Banu Merchantman won’t be the best at every role, but it is a dedicated multi-role generational flagship vessel of a race who use the very best technology available to them!
      I suspect this ship will excel in a number of capacities, even if a few dedicated ships edge it out in specific use cases!

    I think the BMM would hold its own against a smaller ship, and maybe a Polaris if it goes caught off guard, at least it could defend itself, but a Kraken....Those turrets on the underside of the Kraken are HUGE. What kind of shields does this thing have, Idris size, or bigger? A Kraken would either need a fleet of ships, with a few Polaris to bother it, or an Idris M, and good fighter support, or a Javalin, all the Idris-P's and K's will get wrecked, as they have no defense against the huge turrets, only the M has the missile bay to defend against that. So the BMM, without better anti-capital ship interceptors; not happening against Kraken, and even more so if it has all the fighters. An Idris P, yeah that be a fine match, those guns are big, and the P is crap. The K has some offensive abilities, but it's nothing that compares to the M, so I'd say they are about even. The BMM would get in trouble from 1 fighter to 3 fighters. But anything smaller than an Idris, no problem. Hammerheads will hate this ship.

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  3 роки тому +1

      I absolutely agree! The only scenario in which I think a BMM would beat the Kraken is in easy atmospheric landings and the convenience setting up shops inside a closed hanger planetside!
      Beyond that, I think a Kraken especially outfitted with fighter ships aboard its landed pads would be a serious challenge to contest the BMM!
      While I think a very skilled Aries or Ion pilot could outmaneuver and gun down a BMM, I don’t think that a hornet, gladiator, or Valkyrie could pose much of a threat. Especially if the size 8 guns are able to decimate the ship in a single shot!
      And I agree, there will be some ships that run in fear of the BMM and it’ll really come down to a skilled Merchantman captain to decide which targets are worth pursuing and which aren’t!
