I love the Drydock videos. The BMM is also my favorite ship. I just want to add two things: 1. In lore the BMM is also the Ship which the Banu take to war, and for blockades, so I would guess that those S8 front weapons are intended and will stay. 2. While I agree with most of the Privateer vs BMM stuff, I think that they serve different purposes of trading/ mobile markets. The Kraken has a very hard time to maneuver through atmosphere, so it's more intented as a mobile space station, to which the buyer has to fly to. I would guess, that that's the reason for the big turrets. It has also a shielded area for the less lawful goods. I think, that the BMM is the Ship where you want to dock at a station, or fly down to a City to have the safety of lawful space, while the Privateer is a self sustaint trading platform, where you have more possibilities, but also need more crew to defend it.
I wished I was still that young ;-). For me it is now less than 10 years till retirement. So will the BMM be in game by then? Will there be content/missions where it is useful. Will we have AI crew by then? Lots of questions. But I agree, the loaners are very good.
Thank you Farrister for this and all your Drydock series episodes. Your work is much appreciated! I own (purchased with real money), seven ships and my BMM is on top in my fleet. Although, I haven’t been waiting for my BMM as long as most (only five years and counting), I would rather CIG take their time and do this ship justice than rush it out at this point. However, I do hope we get it sooner than later…
Great video! I hadn't been interested much in the BMM. But I love watching these type of videos on all ships. Thanks for the time and effort you put into making them, Farrister!
Also quick add-on to the storage capabilities, I know it's still in active development, but I rewatched the inside the merchantman and did some quick maths. The cargo hold in that video contains 4 gigantic stacks of what seems to be 2 SCU containers, sorted in 8 SCU style frames. Counting the frames, it goes 10 frames high, 16 deep and 6 wide, if my math is correct, with 4 stacks, it would amount to 30.720 SCU. (16*6*10*8*4), which is quite the upgrade from the C2's 696 SCU
Got mine for $250 back in 2013, time flies. I remember they said the banu use these ships for battle too, i guess it will be as good a hauler as it will be in a fleet setup on the battle field. Time will tell, but i doubt we will see this for some while yet.
it will be as good at fighting against real warships like Polaris and Idris, as any refitted cargo ships from WWII : he'll lose. The lore says the Banu USE this ship in war, not that it is a warship. Major difference. The large guns are scary, but they're only front facing, which means that it's there only to clear the way while the BMM gets away from any dangerous situation. People expecting the BMM to put up a fight in any kind of offensive manner will get to learn an expensive lesson.
@@captainharlock3998 Yeah, im not expeting it to be the best Warship, i had mine for so long i kept it out of sentimental reasons. The fact is it grew to large for me just as the Orion, but im not sure what do do with the $250 and $325 i would get from melting them so i kept them.
@@captainharlock3998 It does have hard shield and armor in lore, and size 8 is still bigger then most of the war ship have, it still have 3 other turrets for fighters and medium ships, yes it probably wont win against larger military ships but I bet it can take out a good few of the smaller one.

Regardless of what the ship turns out to be in the end. I am glad it grew in size. I am glad it will eventually be one of the MOST unique looking ships inside and out & that it will have a very special role in any person`s Fleet. Be it as just a simple hauler/marketplace or as a ship that can defend itself in a more dangerous space. I Love the idea of the Merchantman. That will be my go-to big exciting ship to get on with my friends and org mates :) I Do not want bigger, nor do i want better. I want this one, because of how it looks. The design language of this ship simply speaks to me.
Thank you very much for your videos. Especially for the BMM. I love this ship since many years. Hopefully the BMM gets Capital Size Components like the Shield Generator and powerplant. When will CIG release this ship? I guess the time has come for it. I wish you a good weekend :-)
I'm still waiting for the sequel to the Beyond: Good and Evil game, it's been in development hell/getting cancelled and re-started development for like at least 16 years at this point lmao
As someone who bought an LTI BMM back in the day, you're kinda wrong about it's original stated purpose. The Banu are deep space traders. Their value as merchants comes from the variety of wares they carry, including even Vanduul ships. This is because they venture out of human controlled space and are willing to trade with anyone. The original BMM fit this roll. It was noticeably smaller, was equipped with big engines, and still carried it's big front facing guns. It wasn't a marketplace, nor a bulk carrier. The idea was a ship that could venture into the far fringes of space, hold it's own in some less than friendly encounters, and carry back a lot of high value cargo. Very much a rogue trader kinda style. The updates in the last couple of years are when they ballooned the size and added the bazaar. I think it has somewhat lost it's original purpose, but it can still differentiate itself from the Kraken. The Kraken is likely to be slower, have less range, and will be far less armed. The Kraken will be a vessel that will require escorts, and will likely serve more as a temporary station in remote regions. By contrast the BMM will travel between already settled regions, unassisted, and will be selling wares from likely quite distant sectors, hoping to turn that distance into higher profits. Though it likely won't venture into unknown regions of space as it once would have, due it's size making it hard to defend and therefore a prime target.
Okay, I know it's a bit silly, but if they wanted to make "marketplace" it's own sort of profession chain with a natural progression of ships, I would buy the hell out of a solo ship that pulls up to popular mining areas or FPS zones and pops open a window on the side like a food truck 😂 Sell Benny's, meds/ammo, designer flight suits, idk. But I would love the roleplay possibilities
I love this ship and it's possible game play so much that I bought it instead of a capital ship and will hold on to it for as long as there's not a better option and I don't see any that are even close, It is to trade what the Orion is to mining a stand alone do it all and with style. As always you did us all proud on your in depth look at this ship and I can't tell everyone enough to watch your channel and learn as well as relax and enjoy the excellent video and commentary of what Star Citizen ships and game play is and may become, thank you and have a great weekend everyone.
My view of the BMM is that it's the most capable freighter that can stand it's own ground. If things continue on the current path of the ship it seems highly capable for a smaller crew size. Will be interesting too see what loadout it comes stock with since the Banu are said to take the best they can get their hand on. Also seems likely components will be changed to larger sizes.
Another consideration is the size of the ship. The merchantman dwarfs the Perseus, it's more than double the size. I think the guns are appropriate given the size of the ships.
The ship is also just about twice as big and hardly as well armored, plus those guns are fixed thus will be hard to line up on most targets with something that chonky
@@Spike.SpiegeI It makes sense that the merchantman is large enough to support guns of that size, but size 8 still seems like overkill for a trade ship to me. And, comparing it to the Perseus specifically again, I feel like a larger/more shield generators and/or a larger powerplant/more powerplants would make more sense than bigger guns, since the goal is to survive and disengage. I keep a very cheap CCU for the BMM in the bag, but I'm really wondering what I'd ever go with this ship, being too large for a solo player that occasionally (very!) get a guest or two. Any respectable Org will have several ships like this and a Hull C (which I also own) carries more for a more modest crew request.
I almost bought it but it does not have repair facilities and it may take many years for it to be released. I do like the medical facility on board of the BMM
The BMM was the turning point for me souring on CIG. They put out hype, promoted the development and changes, then after a loss of a couple of staff, quietly shelved it. If it comes out, I will be excited to see it, but I am not holding my breath because the design is "hard" and CIG doesn't see new sales coming out of it.
Ive been waiting for this video for so long. I cant wait for it to come out so I can fly mine. Tho I dont mind the loaners I wish the carrack was one of them as that ship feels like it fits the BMM better then the C2.
A problem seems to be that BMM development is stalled because they focus on new unannounced ready to fly ships. They have the BMM money so they make it low priority now.
Mr. Farrister sir with all due respect I think your videos would improve 100x if you could setup a mouth sound filter on the audio chain of your video. I hear your compressor clicking in and out so I'm sure you put a lot of effort into the audio ,but this one change would help your videos tremendously.
This kind of comment is actually really helpful - I do have a pop filter on the mic at the moment. Do you have any other suggestions? (Although I did have a cold when I recorded this - voiceover with flu is not ideal!)
@@Farrister Pop filter is always a great idea, but their main job is to prevent plosives when good mic hygiene is compromised or difficult. For mouth sounds there's something called a "declick" filter that you can run. I'd defer to Mr. Curtis Judd who I'd bet you've run into in your time looking into audio. ua-cam.com/video/oM4IJGMj_Ms/v-deo.html this will tell more than I can put into a youtube comment.
I'm just picturing size 8 distortion beams with knockback and radiation so you're basically getting through anything lol Having it show that it's going to fire for 3-5 seconds depending on where your power is sent to. 6 second capacitor with it being able to take out an Idris in 5. 2-5 minutes on temp and power based recharge with them getting near critical when firing all 6 seconds. And on another note I'd name my Merchantman, 𝐹𝒶𝒽𝓇𝑒𝓃𝒽𝑒𝒾𝓉 like FFX lol
VS an Idris, the BMM will lose 10/10 fights. It's not a warships. I get the hype about it, I'm cautiously curious as well, but people saying it's the Alien Idris equivalent... nah, it'll lose in a couple minutes against any capital warship, polaris, Idris, not even mentionning Jav.
@@captainharlock3998 100%, this is basically just to get people out of the way so it can quantum away. I get where they're coming from with the size 8 weapons. It's weird for that type of ship. It feels like it was originally made for the Vanduul but they just switched alien races.
Anyone else thinks the ships are too light for their size?? The weight of the first AEGIS class ships say the Ticonderoga is about 9800 tons. And it’s significantly smaller than this ship.
I have a Carrack to BMM CCU but it is also part of the Carrack - BMM - Hammerhead - Polaris CCU chain. So i will probably have to borrow a friends one to play with it since the polaris is due this year.
We have the exact same CCU chain! I stopped mine at the Corsair for the moment. mine was STV, Razor, c1, Sabre, Corsair, (where I am now), Retaliator, Carrack, BMM (old 0$ccu, I still have a couple of those), HH, Polaris
nice - I have a Carrack which I love and it has the Pisces and Ursa so it is a big call to leave that ship. But I suspect when the Polaris arrives in game I may be unable to fight the urge to do it. lol @@captainharlock3998
Farrister! are you in an Org, if you are, would it be possible, when, and if you have the time of course, doing a vid detailing the benefits of joining and contributing within an Org. ? Kudos
I don't have a need for this ship, and don't even like alien ships, but I got one of these many years go, when they were 'cheap', with the intention of CCUing it later. However, it's now gone up in price so much, I can't bring myself to melt or CCU it. I now want to see what it's like in game.
I love the idea of this ship, but I just don’t see it working. It just seems more convenient to go to a station for items and I don’t see how this ship wouldn’t just scream “pirate me” when it’s stationary for bazaar reasons. The mechanics needed for this sort of ship to work, I’m just not seeing CIG doing this anytime soon or even before 1.0, if at all. It does seem like a cool way to do cargo trading, with lots of cargo space and a decent sized hanger
Unfortunately your data is old. The ship matrix (updated a month ago) lists it at 163 meters long and 160 meter beam, not 237 and 203. These are also military ships in time of conflict and block aid runners as well. These should be considered capitol class ships. And only 2 size 3 shields is ridiculous, it should have at least 3.
Ultimately I headed this off in the intro - we know the ship has work going on to it, and everything is up for change. Given the proportions in the last video I think the 200+ feels more likely at the moment - but who knows!
The data is wrong, the BMM is around 240m. It's easy to see also by comparing the last video CIG put up with the size of the hangar vs the Banu Defender which is already in game. 160m was the data about 7 years ago.
@@tahlularose9267 It IS a CapitAl ship. It will be priced as CIG wants, and fitted as a capital trader because that's what it is. It isn'a warship, it isn't an explorer, it's a trading ship.
@@captainharlock3998 The lore is that these are generational ships, passed down through the family and called into service in times of conflict with 'some' military capability (hence effective blockaid runner). Agreed though, it's primary function is as a trader.
Ah!! The Merchantman, the ship that's a Nomadic Bazaar going where the coin might be!! Think the Tuareg of the Stars!! Even the Vand'uul respect this ship!! THIS IS AN ORG SHIP! No doubt about it. Imagine this thing landing at a location, and around it's various ingress and egress points tents are strung up, stalls set out and merchants call out their wares and their prices, the sights, the sounds the smells, and on board more expensive suites (shops) and eateries, local dignitaries meeting in the conference rooms, doctors and medic treating (for a price of course) the local ill and injured, while other persons of worth head to the spa, or beauty parlours aboard. The Banu Merchantman might (externally) look impressive, and indeed the same as another Merchantman, but the facilities on offer might be tailored to the tastes of the Orgs and factions that own and run them. Farrister, I apologize, but your video set my imagination on fire!!
I will not buy any other ships with real money until they bring the BMM in game. I would love to back a Razor or a ground ship or so much more. I cannot spend anymore money in this game until they make the BMM playable.
Nothing Q-ship when we know all it's armament precisely. It's only a lore fluff because the nose gun can retract. But if you expect to do serious fighting in a BMM, I'd reconsider. It's an expensive ship to lose.
There's really no need to put the disclaimers about SC being still in dev and "this is just speculation" etc. Anyone who doesn't understand that isn't deep enough into SC to be watching your videos, and anyone watching your vids is in deep enough that they don't need the disclaimer.
I got it for 250 usd . I am sure we wont have it for the next 3 years . Thanks to the guys that left the company . Why could they not finish this befor leaving

Any respectable Org will have several ships like this and a Hull C (which I also own) carries more for a more modest crew request.
Does feel kinda big for a single person...
Some day!
One day!
I almost bought it but it does not have repair facilities and it may take many years for it to be released. I do like the medical facility on board of the BMM
The gel pools look awesome
I can't wait to fly mine. :)
May have to wait a little!
I really hope they will design it more leaned to the original concept. The newer version looks kinda cubby to me
Cubby?
@Farrister somehow plump, portly, pudgy.
The original Design was more sleek
Ive been waiting for this video for so long. I cant wait for it to come out so I can fly mine. Tho I dont mind the loaners I wish the carrack was one of them as that ship feels like it fits the BMM better then the C2.
Sorry about the wait - there was a lot of information to sift through!
A problem seems to be that BMM development is stalled because they focus on new unannounced ready to fly ships. They have the BMM money so they make it low priority now.
The only best ship in the game.
A BMM fan, per chance? :D
It has turned from an ominous, spiky alien trader, into a Lego Duplo model
i agre. so i melt it :(
Imo nothing about the Banu as a species is spiky and ominous so I welcome the change
With crystally sparkly lights
Oh no!
Did you mean a docking collar on each side vs. port?
A docking collar on each side, supposedly
I believe that the main reason that this has taken so long is how ornate the interior is, and the devs just don't know what they want.
Quite possibly a contributing factor. Devs also had to move on from the project when key people left CIG
try to do one of the uee bengal
I'm just picturing size 8 distortion beams with knockback and radiation so you're basically getting through anything lol Having it show that it's going to fire for 3-5 seconds depending on where your power is sent to. 6 second capacitor with it being able to take out an Idris in 5. 2-5 minutes on temp and power based recharge with them getting near critical when firing all 6 seconds. And on another note I'd name my Merchantman, 𝐹𝒶𝒽𝓇𝑒𝓃𝒽𝑒𝒾𝓉 like FFX lol
Idris wouldn't appreciate that :P
I suspect it may be updated. But there's license to do things a bit different by mentioning "alien future tech" :D
I have a Carrack to BMM CCU but it is also part of the Carrack - BMM - Hammerhead - Polaris CCU chain. So i will probably have to borrow a friends one to play with it since the polaris is due this year.
Complicated chain!
Yeah I was hoping the BMM would go up up in price before got the BMM to hammerhead CCU - but I can always melt the CCU if that happens.@@Farrister
? Kudos
I can't wait to get my bmm.
Sadly, may need to wait a little while longer :(
Nice cover of the BMM
Thanks :)
I have the ship , but at this point im thinking why not upgrade it to a perseus or polaris those are gonna release sooner anyways
I don't have a need for this ship, and don't even like alien ships, but I got one of these many years go, when they were 'cheap', with the intention of CCUing it later. However, it's now gone up in price so much, I can't bring myself to melt or CCU it. I now want to see what it's like in game.
For $250 and LTI, the OG are sat on a heavily appreciated asset!
what is the replacment ship?
I love the idea of this ship, but I just don’t see it working. It just seems more convenient to go to a station for items and I don’t see how this ship wouldn’t just scream “pirate me” when it’s stationary for bazaar reasons. The mechanics needed for this sort of ship to work, I’m just not seeing CIG doing this anytime soon or even before 1.0, if at all.
It does seem like a cool way to do cargo trading, with lots of cargo space and a decent sized hanger
It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out
Looks great. I sure hope it doesn't have stairs or an elevator....Otherwise I won't survive long enough to visit the shops.
lol
Bro why does it look like a Zaiforge Cannon from Voltron: LD? Either way it looks super bad ass
It looks awesome
try also to make one of the hardste ship there is but try.
THE UEE RETRUBUTION the super dreathnaut
2.7 km long
do you guys think you will be able to fly it with 3 to 4 man
My dream ship even if she grew in size
Beautiful
So how do we board it?
As a paying customer, right? Right?
Hopefully CIG develops trading more; generally trading has felt stale recently, and developing it more would help the bmm along
I hope we'll see more on that this year
Unfortunately your data is old.
@@captainharlock3998If that's the case, it's definitely a Capitol class ship and should be priced and fitted like the 890J
My girlfriend is getting me this for Christmas, it's been my dream ship since I laid eyes on her
I thougth it would go with the capital ships to be honest
Possibly!
Farrister, I apologize, but your video set my imagination on fire!!
why do I feel like they are going to nerf the pilot gun size to a 6 then keeping it at 8 >.
I guess it's possible!
ALL BMM OWNERS RISE UP, SO WE CAN GET OUR LOVED SHIP.
BMM has been my line in the sand for spending even a penny more on this game. I find the development pace of it inexcuseable.
A complicated ship though :(
melted my c2 to buyback the merchantman its been awhile i feel like it might be coming soon.
If only :(
I will not buy any other ships with real money until they bring the BMM in game. I would love to back a Razor or a ground ship or so much more. I cannot spend anymore money in this game until they make the BMM playable.
Might be a while :D
@@Farrister I've been waiting since a few months after it was released lol
We can wish in one hand, and shit in the other. Then see which gets filled first. :)
at x1.5 speed your videos are perfect
Such a beautiful ship, was a shame when they put a pin in it.
drydock - vulcan
I love the look of the Vulcan!
It looked much better in the original design.
So id guess unloading will need to be auto and paid.
Imagine unloading that cargo with a tractor
A multitool :D
@@Farrister ye meant tractor attachment for multi
GIB please!
Please!!!
Watching this to save $50 and avoid making the "upgrade" to the Polaris
I hope they stop raising the price of a ship that's not flyable yet, really grinds my gears
I hope this floating 7/11 has slushies!
It’s going to be another 10 years before they work on it again😂
dont get how it has bigger guns than a perseus lol a dedicated combat ship
Yeah, I didn't understand either - but it may simply be old info!
Q-ship! never forget
Nothing Q-ship when we know all it's armament precisely. It's only a lore fluff because the nose gun can retract. But if you expect to do serious fighting in a BMM, I'd reconsider. It's an expensive ship to lose.
Of all the ships in the dry dock... This one needs to get out.
lol
o7 ... 🫡

i got one for 250$ ❤️👌
How
There's really no need to put the disclaimers about SC being still in dev and "this is just speculation" etc.
Anyone who doesn't understand that isn't deep enough into SC to be watching your videos, and anyone watching your vids is in deep enough that they don't need the disclaimer.
You would be surprised, with some of the comments I get it's clearly ignored!
I got it for 250 usd . I am sure we wont have it for the next 3 years . Thanks to the guys that left the company . Why could they not finish this befor leaving
Basically, CIG doesn't treat their employees well, they up and leave in the middle of a project, then CIG decides to put it on the shelf for years despite having taken hundreds of thousands of dollars for the ship from backers. The BMM in a nutshell.
:(
