@@ASMRctica omg you replied! I only saw this now. Ever since I commented this I've been watching a bunch of your videos. I can't get enough of your content man.
As a Brazilian I was very happy to see Brazil in this video. Funny, you got the cities right. Indeed Chuí and monte Roraima are the extreme points in south and north. However, here in Brazil we have an expression "do oiapoke ao Chuí". Oiapoke being the farthest north point by common sense. Even though it is not. So, you got it right. But now you know this expression!

This contraption is fascinating and I never knew something like this existed. And it seems like it would be easier to just do the math on paper. But still it's a great item for an ASMR video.

Math was never my favorite, but after this video, i would rather learn it, than learn to use this monster of a calculator 😂😂😂😂 the machine is more complicated to use than the math problem itself!! 😂😂😂
Now this is something else! I've watched some asmr videos on mechanical calculators before and always liked them, mainly from 1stspyguy but he doesn't post too much nowadays so this is a great treat! I really enjoyed this!
Hey salam! So glad you like this! And so cool you have watched 1stspyguy. I just found out about his videos when doing some ressearch for this video :D They are very good, and I learned most of the operations from his videos.
I thought I knew how this calculator worked, and then very quickly got lost, but it's still a really cool invention! It sounds kind of like the eye examination contraption they have you look through at the eye doctors. That was probably one of the first ASMR experiences I remember and I still love going to the optometrist because of that lol SUCH a relaxing video and really interesting too!
Hey! Thank you so much for the nice feedback and compliments! So glad to hear you enjoy my content, and I'm happy to read your thoughts about this video. Yeah, eye examination videos can be really relaxing, and it's so cool that this video reminds you of those types of videos :)
When dividing, you can still do like how originally did with 68. However you were trying to divide by 36 (not 3600), you needed to shift them left by 2. This would make; 3600.000000 Not _ _ 36.0000 _ _ 68.000000 _ _ 68.0000 Obviously then you would not be able to do 68/3600, so you would need to move move the bottom carriage across twice. Honestly it doesn't matter much unless you get longer, nonrepeating decimals as you would only be able to go to 9 decimal places where as this other way you would get to 11. Not much of a difference as long as the numbers you are using are of similar length. If you were trying to do something stupid like divide 1/12345 it would be. 12345.0000 _ _ _ _ 1.0000 You would then need to move this over 5 times (Because you can't divide 1/12345, 1/1234.5, 1/123.45, 1/12.345 or 1/1.2345. Only at 1/0.12345 can you divide), THEN divide for a total of 0.000081004 (and something because I think this machine can't go more than that anyway) Hopefully UA-cam formatting doesn't mess this up. I never knew this equipment was a thing but now I want one.
I have no interest in math or else but this video was so incredibly interesting and yet calming. I felt asleep in the middle of the video but watched till the end after I woke up.
Hi! I'm not really new to the channel but haven't been commenting, do you think k you could draw a map of the UK? Just like a map of the UK and nothing else? thanks!
Hi! Thanks for the comment :) and thanks for the request! Maybe I will :) i've been thinking about it for a while actually, I find the history of that area very interesting
☝Careful! Hipsters made vinyl and analog come back, if they see this video they might start using this instead of a digital calculator 😂 What a fascinating machine.
Really cool video! Maybe you mentioned this (I didn't watch the whole thing), but using the Pythagorean formula to calculate the distance should produce an error, since the shortest distance between two points on the Earth's surface is not a straight line. The Earth's surface is curved and shortest distances follow great circle routes. That said your answer (4385 km) matches exactly the result given by the Haversine formula for the coordinates you gave. It turns out that the Pythagorean formula produces best results for distances near the equator and with minimal change in longitude, which suspiciously matches the example you used :)
Thanks for the feedback! Cool, I hadn't heard of Haversine formula before, it looks really complicated 😅 Yeah I guess that's why lines showing flight routes seem to be curved when shown on a map.
Maybe it's rude to ask, but as soon as you said you found it at a thrift shop and bought it not knowing what it was, my very first thought was, "how much did it cost?".
I neeeeed a full video of just your drawing into and the patron tapping a video of like tapping every supporter and or a video drawing but with the edits like your intro
About the latitude and longitude : The 0,0 coordinates are placed at the equator on the Greenwich meridian, which passes through Greenwich in London, England. So positive longitudes are east of England, negative are west. Positive latitude are in the northern hemisphere, while negatives are in the southern hemisphere.
I've been told that writing my journal on an IBM Selectric II was oddly pleasant to listen to. So much so, my family mentioned it to me saying they missed it. Also to butter the crumpets of every 70's kid, show the class a slide rule. That's how the cool kids did their math.

In principle, initially you did everything correctly in the division, because after 68 there are 11 free positions, and after 3600 there are 2 free positions, 11-2 = 9, but you can only shift by 8, we remember 0 more after the point with a sticker and just subtract 32 according to the usual algorithm. As a result, the answer with a memorized 0 will be correct, but for convenience, as you did, 0s from the dividers can be moved before the denominators or just ignore last 0's in dividers, which is why there is enough space on the panel to shift the point in aswer.
