I've been surfing UA-cam for just Ford Conversion vans because I just purchased a 1992 and I love it. Anyways, I was just about to call it a night until I clicked on this video. Well, I am glad I did because your channel has a whole lotta information I am going to find very useful and I'm sure your subscribers alike. 👍
Todd, thank you for sharing your story, set up, and the security system. Really like the different tone from different directions. Great idea when it’s dark and you’re unsure what might be near. Being pro active is good self care. 😊
Never have any issues with my 2WD Xterra. 90% of it is good tires and not being dumb. Anyplace you truly need 4WD is probably not the best place to take that rig.
@@bindingcurveeh, yes & no. When you live up north having a 4 wheel drive or even an AWD makes a huge difference in a raging icy snowstorm. New tires on a 2wd definitely helps though. You can also put on tire cables on a 2wd if you’re getting stuck and it’s a pain in the butt. I’ll take my 4wd and the added ground clearance any day.
I'm thrilled to learn you can convert to 4WD!!! My current 1995 camper-van is my dream van except for being 2 WD. Also women love their entire. Freaking. LIVES on hyper alert. PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS.
Yay, finally getting to see your interview Todd! Was so great meeting you and your wife in Astoria a few weeks ago. Can’t wait to meet up this winter!!
I love his Honda Trail 110 my son has one, and I have a 90cc model from the 70s. Great rig wonderful video blessings to you all coming at you from Southern Oregon
Just saying the 'safe' word is fearbased. Notice how everyone has been saying the stay safe spell since the scamdemic? I am a therapist. Take it or leave. Living in fear is a choice, like everything else. Much love on your journey. Stay smiling 😉
Wow! Excellent job on your rig! I remember when I was living in my van for almost 2 years that I was the happiest and calmest that I had ever been! I've been in an apartment for too long now due to a series of unfortunate events. I still dream of getting back out on the road again, but it's a catch-22 situation with my own PTSD and anxiety at this time. I keep getting closer! It's taking a lot of work but it will be totally worth it! Bravo to you, sir, and thank you for all you have done!
Thank you for the kind words. Do what you can to follow your dreams 😊. Trust me, it’s easy to give into the fear. Please do what you can to work past it, life is way too beautiful to let it win ❤
That thing's a monster .. pretty cool. For anything off road, a van like that would be nice to have. A UA-camr that has a 4x4 factory van would be, Foresty Forest. The discussion about calming your mind was relevant and interesting to learn about. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect build. I'd want the dry bath too having been spoiled in a class A. Now pulling a tiny trailer with a wet bath (13' Scamp) with my Wrangler but thinking of an Econoline buildout some day. Great idea for security lights and motion detection!
This guy has a great yet realistic attitude. Kudos to him. I was laughing my azz off when he mentioned Jason. I love this van build- they did a great job 👏
Beautiful! Looks like my 1992 Ford F250 Econoline 190. I have a dinette in the back and toilet on the side near the couch. LOVE IT! Such a change from living in my Pacifica for 2 years. Maybe see you in Q sometime!
I suffer from PTSD and live in the country, I've found that solar powered motion lights help alot. You can install them or just lay them anyhwere and as soon as somone comes within distance they get lit up with lights. I used them when i went camping, i just sat them around my tent, it also helps you if you need to go outside the light comes on and nd keeps you from tripping over anything, pick one up and use it as a flashlight as well .
I agree motion lights can help a lot, I really like the magnetic ones for the sides and front and rear of the van. It certainly can help lower the anxiety.
Just here... Learning... With nobody helping me through trying to get myself started in transitioning my 2011 Kia Sportage, And everyone telling me I'm crazy and all sorts of arguments and fighting in the process of me just having to defend myself.... Being told I'll never make it and being told my car will never make it and trying to instill all sorts of fears in me... Very exhausting... Just here trying to learn and to get the hell out of here with my cat who is on chemo meds 😮💨 Thanks for your helpful videos!
One thing that doesn’t seem to get asked during these videos is what type of gas miliage do you get. If your plan is to go someplace and stay for a month its not a big deal but if you plan to travel a lot it might be helpful.
License plate...NO CANDY....hilarious! I have a similar, white lifted off-road van, and friends joke with me about it being a creeper van, or a van down by the river :) BUT, it looks nothing like the vans you see in those movies, thankfully.
What a charismatic, eloquent, informative and dapper gent! ☺️ I really appreciate him being vulnerable and sharing about PTSD, which is something many of us suffer with in silence ❤ his security tips are duly noted! 🫡 📓
My older brother in New Mexico has one just like it in his garage (without the mods of course) but not starting at all. Any idea as to what we should do to get it started?. It's been sitting in his garage for a decade or so. The closest to the city for him is about 20 miles away. I have subscribed to his channel but I was hoping to get some information on this build and mods in more detail... I concur with him about being able to get parts and simple repairs done with the older cars. simplicity of repairing this vehicle and getting the parts are very important when you're on the go. Great Van!
I’m no mechanic, but I would certainly have it towed someplace where they can completely change. All of the fluids probably pull all the gasoline out of it because it’s probably turn to varnish by now work with somebody who would know how to start that without harming it since it’s been sitting so long.
I have a built out E250 that's been my retirement home for 5 yrs. I am curious about the downtime you experienced doing the 4x4 conversion. I pull my boat with me 100% and 4x4 would be amazing on those remote dirt boat ramps.
That’s what I’ve found. No one wanting to convert my old van. Good to know there’s a reputable company out there that will do it. I’ve got a ‘93 Dodge B350, wanting to do 4wd. Just not sure how much life is left in the engine. lol. 178k miles so far.
Yay finally a fellow intravec camper. Yours is so cool! Thanks for sharing I have a 1993 Chevy G30 that I am finally ready to get on the road in October from the PNW. Can you tell me what your awning is? Mine is broken and I am looking at replacing.
I formerly owned a 1990 Dodge Van bought new. Back then they didnt come from the dealer with swivels or Captain's Chairs. You had to install them yourself after-market.
I'm interested, so I wrote down his YT and will look for that rig. But seems like he will benefit to go have that rig weighed - it looks as though his travel weight is close to the max
I’ve been very conscious of how heavy the rig was getting. It is just shy of 13 K fully loaded. With the bike on it does have a little bit of Carolina squat, looking into either airbags or a heavier, spring pack.
..... A can of bear spray, a .38 and a baseball bat go a long way to boosting confidence. My rig (and home is 100 percent solar)... But rejetting a carb is quite simple.
As a fellow PTSD sufferer, thank so SO much for explaining the sensor, because I know Jason is after me, too.
The struggle is real.
Do what you can to fight the fear. There’s a big beautiful world out there to explore ❤
Yes. It's great that folks are being more open about things like PTSD so we can not only destigmatize it, but share tips like this.
I'm glad he said that. Only took me 6 years as an FR to develop that, and I was out.

One of the best videos I've seen; from being able to stand up inside, to being able to park almost anywhere, he covered it all and THEN some.
What a great guest. He made very helpful safety suggestions for us that few think about. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words
This is one of my favorite van life interviews.
I like that he kept the die-hard original appliances that are proven reliable, but easy to repair if an issue arises. 👍
My thoughts, exactly😊
👍👍 That sensor receiver is cool for all kinds of things
I love that he converted it from 2WD to 4WD. I have a Subaru Outback, and I can't imagine my adventures without AWD.

I love this style of van with the “penthouse” bed in the high top.

Great rig. Jason Durrah of Primal Outdoors used the same company to do the 4x4 swap. I’ve heard no complaints from them.
My son has one and I will definitely share this info with him! Very nice.
Please do. Thank you😊
So awesome! I’ve got a similar van to this, the Airstream B190. Can’t wait to 4x4 swap mine. I’m in the process of a full interior restoration for me.
