As someone has said, you can region block Japan, so it's less likely copyright issues will arise from there. And to me this kind of audio from the anime is fine. I'd much rather have the full reaction than to have it cut up just to have a crisper audio (and/or better resolution for the anime itself). Also, IIRC, the difference betweem the TV edition and the director's cut is that the director's cut has a bit more blood and a few extra scenes.
Fully. The world and its history are unbelievably fleshed out, I actually struggle to believe it was written by one guy sometimes. And he helped write Vivy: Fluorite eye's song on top of all that. Tappei is built different.
11:49 "Satella" is voiced by Rie Takahashi, who also voices Megumin from _KonoSuba_ and Ai from _Oshi no Ko_ Also, Puck is voiced by Yumi Uchiyama, aka Rudeus from _Mushoku Tensei_ and young Aqua from _Oshi no Ko_
I would also like to add that Subaru's VA voiced by "Kobayashi Yusuke" also voiced Senku (Dr Stone) Edit: I also remembered that he voiced Grantz from Tanya
I know some source fans have been disappointed with ReZero's adaptation skipping some content, but god damn, I love the production. They skipped the OP and ED on a lot of episodes, so they can have more story. They literally paid the TV channels to NOT run ads during the episode, so they can have more story. It's absolutely wild they would straight up lose money to make the episodes longer than normal.
@@anusaukko6792 not quite id argue the best adaptaion is the monogatari series. its literally managed to translate the LN experience into anime and theres also Demon slayer with a perfect+ adaptation cause it actually somehow made the source mateiral viewable oh and JJK recently is also an epic example of a perfect adaptation Re:zero adaptation was by no means bad. its good. but it could have been so much more. in terms of an adaptation.... its not that good. but despite that, the anime still being epic is a testament to how great the story is.
@@anusaukko6792 As an adaptation I wouldn't call Re:Zero one of the best since even while skipping OPs and EDs it omits a lot of stuff that it isn't going to show later, but in my opinion the pacing of the content of the novel is a bit off at times, probably on account of being a web novel, so I understand why some of the cut scenes were dropped
you know near the end of the episode, Elsa was pretty accepting with Subaru being able to win the insignia back. The problem is he said that he was going to give it back. Spoiler anime below I was thinking he could do the same thing here in the next loop and not say that he was going to give it back to the owner. He could say he is also buying it for his master and cannot say his client's name just like what Elsa is doing but then again maybe Roswall book would change and ask to give Elsa 30 holy coins instead @@OnMyLunchBreak07
I think within the first 5 minutes you pretty much nailed one of the big reasons why it's so easy to get invested in Re:Zero from the beginning - because Subaru is so relatable. As you said - he is us. It's really easy to think if we were the protagonist of an isekai that we'd be this overpowered being that would become either the superhero or supervillain (in cases like Overlord) of this new world we now belong to, but in reality we'd be just like Subaru - lost, confused, and not having any idea what to do. Which makes his character development in this series all the more intriguing.
also, he could have had a more normal life, but for a certain element of the plot, which becomes clear only around arc5/s3, he could not. he has the litteral worse luck ever, and this happens for a specifc reason.
1st season is just the prelude that focuses on character development and their state of mind. 2nd season will start answering questions and expand the world building.
@@chadgrimwell8380 Season 2? You mean season 3? Also every season has plenty of character development even season 3 and 4 (I have read the light novel.). Subaru continues to change and adapt. You would think the show would potentially fall off but it doesn't in the light novel. Season 3 has the potential to be the best season. Season 3 does have world building but season 4 will have a PLENTY of that! Season 4 is filled with world building.
her personality isnt that bad. its just that the curse she live with mess her up more than her previous trauma. shes a killer, but she can somehow relate with others. pride if attest it
I look forward to 4 things with this: 1. The story 2. The characters 3. Your reactions to "certain scenes" 4. GETTING EVER SO CLOSE TO A VINLAND SAGA REACTION!
hey luke, just wanna say that there's wayyy too much lore and hints revealed in this anime you keep your eyes peeled 👀👀 (everything has a reason, nothing is a coincidence )
@@juanthegreat3954While true, it's everything else about Subaru that makes him such a human character. Especially in season 2 in the episode with his parents [no spoilers for Luke in what happens on it], but God, that was an emotional roller coaster that elevated Subaru to greater heights!
55:54 "Hot" take about Subaru being a likable character, I wish more people viewed him this way. The general consensus from what I've seen is people tend not to like him because he's a bit more odd/eccentric and makes questionable choices at times. Though, I think that's only because we're on the outside looking in, easy to judge from our perspective. I like him as a protag because he's pretty much just a normal guy. Not super strong/fast/smart or anything like that; he's just a dude with some extra courage that's trying to fight for what's right, as you said. Well put analysis throughout the reaction, look forward to future reactions!
People who dropped it because of waifu crap or who couldn't handle the self insert bait and the like don't like him, sure, but the vast majority of people who are up to date have Subaru as one of the best characters in fiction. The general consensus you're talking about is not true at all. Pretty much all fans of the series consider him the best character, even among the countless great characters that this series has.
@@adnanomar1311 Yeah true, I would expect fans of the series to mostly like Subaru, but by 'general consensus' I mainly refer to all the reactors I've watched and all the comments I see on social media, and they all aren't typically massive Re:Zero fans (I should've mentioned that). For those that actually stuck with the series, they get to see real development throughout the episodes which is why I think people who got caught up in the stupid drama and didn't actually give Re:Zero a chance are more critical towards Subaru and the series in general. And unfortunately, they tend to be more vocal about this than people who just enjoy the series, which is why I might assume the overall opinion is more negative towards Subaru.
Wholeheartedly agree. At first, I didn't like Subaru very much as I thought he didn't catch on fast and made poor choices, but the more I imagined myself in his shoes, the more I realised how brilliant his character really is, hence I implore all other people watching for the first time before judging Subaru
I found Subaru a bit cringe to start off with. But through the character development he gets over the course of the series, he really does transform into an absolutely fantastic character.
Subaru is definitely a bit cringe to sit through at times through the first 15 or so episodes, but he's still an amazing character that gets even better, to the point of becoming one of the best written characters ever
I'm a Re:Zero enthusiast, everything here is enjoyable, the animation, lore, characters, OST, everything, and in the beginning when you started looking for new anime, I suggested this one several times. The advantage of having spent all this time is that now you have experience in the world of anime and I imagine this will make it even better to enjoy the story. Welcome to this bloody rabbit hole you're falling into that is Re:Zero!
I think an awesome parallel to the start of the show, and how he doesn't "freak out", is imagine when you fall asleep. You have your last blink before your mind goes blank for a split second, and the next thing you know your brain is conjuring a dream scenario. You never stop to question "why am I here" in your dream world. You never feel that yank from reality to dream state. Your subconscious never lets you freak out about it. This new "reality" simply.. is. This sort of transport to another world can perhaps be compared equally, as if his subconscious simply just accepts this to be his new world view, his new reality, and it takes time for his consciousness to actually catch up to what his subconscious has already accepted as fact.
The actual explaination is that his reaction is actually very realistic. He had the usual Otaku/NEET hobbies in our world so he simply instantly realised what was happening just like any of us would be able to recognize we got Isekaid based on already being aware of it from fiction.
The promised day is finally here, been looking forward to your Re:Zero Reactions so very much! Would love to see you to continue the directors cut if you can. Subaru is my favorite protagonist he’s extremely realistic I’m glad you already like him "Satelas" voice is Yuzuriha from Hells Paradise, Megumin from Konosuba and Ai from Oshi No Ko. Subaru is senku if he sounds familiar to you as well Also funny thing you said in the Theater D reaction that the instrumental weirdly sounds reversed now you know why :) Re:Zero for me is the best isekai that it takes lots of cliches and tropes out of the genre or even anime in general and subverts them the story will only get more intriguing as it goes on that makes it highly rewatchable too I didn’t even realize how great the ost was for the anime till my 2nd watch because the plot sucked me in that deeply. Strap in you’re in for a wild ride and i can’t wait to join you for all of it
Yay! Re:Zero reaction! Enjoy lol. A lot of modern isekai anime is a reincarnation one but a lot of older isekai series just has the MCs summoned in random ways. This is one of the modern ones that just transports it's MC without reincarnation. It's good you've seen a couple of isekai series before this one since what this does differently from those is what made it special for a lot of people.
yeah im fine with his low points, it would be odd if his mental state was fine with the constant barage of trauma hes going through as well as stuggling to talk to people or fixated when he knows everybody 50 tims longer than they know him becuase of the resets
Re:Zero is a masterpiece and unlike any other isekai. It has some of the best written characters in fiction, especially the protagonist. Subaru is one of the most realistic and relatable characters I’ve seen. He’s just a weak normal human but with the ability to return by death. This sounds like a cool thing, but it’s actually hell because he has to feel all the pain and torture whenever he dies. I’ve never seen a character suffer as much as Subaru does. But he will have incredible character development, making him one of the greatest fictional characters of all time. Re:Zero also has the best female cast in all of anime in my opinion. I hope you’ll enjoy this and I’m excited for you to get to the crazy parts!
@@vice214 TenSura is literally one of my favorite pieces of fiction ever and Rimuru is my favorite character of all time. But I don’t think the female cast is better. Shion isn’t my favorite, I definitely love Chloe though, she’s best girl. Milim, Ramiris and Hinata are also good characters. But overall I don’t think they can compare to Emilia, Rem, Ram, Echidna, Satella, Beatrice, Crusch, etc. They’re just better written. But I like TenSura’s male cast more.
Super excited to have you start watching Re:Zero. It is a deconstruction of the isekai genre, playing on the tropes that you usually see, and flipping them on their head. Subaru is a classic isekai protagonist who is quickly coming to the realization that his idyllic vision of how his isekai adventure is supposed to go is not the reality at all. It is a wonderful subversion of expectations with plenty of mystery and intrigue.
Hi Luke in honor of a new series (and one of my personal favorites) I put together something on anime history and genres. I noticed you asked about this in some of your earlier reactions, but you’ve now watched enough anime that I thought this would be good for you and maybe some of the audience. I know you let your audience guide the channel, but this might help with some of the choices you give us in the future. Anime eras. 1980’s-1995. During this era Anime was a specialty and very niche in the West. There were some movies and shows that broke through to an extent (Akira, Miyazaki movies etc.) but basically, it was similar to other international film/ media markets and you usually needed to go out of your way to find it. Japan was bigger in gaming/technology though and was seeking inroads into other forms of media. 1994-1998 exports appear on major channels, especially in the US and Canada. Gundam, Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Sailor Moon are among the shows that appeared on Western TV here. Evangelion also appeared on VHS and got a cult following. 1998-2000.1998 was the biggest breakout year for Japanese animation. Shows like Digimon, Y-Gi-oh, and of course biggest of all Pokémon caught the world by storm setting the stage for the world to be open to the idea of watching more Japanese animation in the future. Followed soon after by things like Cardcaptor Sakura, and for older audiences things like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. 2000’s-Anime is played on major television channels across local and cable channels, including Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network’s “Toonami block”. Shows include One piece, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, Code Geass, Rarouni Kenshin. Anime had broken through to a much wider audience, and because TV studios were still running everything and doing localizations most shows of this period had dubs that are between good and great( but with sometimes frustrating translation decisions) Early 2010s-online streaming slowly takes over from TV as the primary method of media and especially anime consumption, and the “seasonal” system of anime releases became much more set in stone as a system. The release of Sword Art Online in 2012 begins a trend of a bunch of trapped in a game/video game/Isekai-themed anime. Some are really good but it also produces oversaturation and backlash. The quality of Dubs drops dramatically in this timeframe partly due to the rise of streaming decreasing the roll of TV studios and the fact that many fans can watch shows with subs as soon as they air in Japan rather than having to wait weeks-years. 2015-present. Basically, a continuation of the early 2010’s the one notable change is an ever-increasing number of dark and “shock value shows” partly due to the bigger market from older audiences (Attack on Titan, chainsaw Man etc.) Re-Zero came out in 2016 and is both a subversion/ restructuring of the Isekai genre that had become oversaturated and stood out from the rest and its dark themes contrast with other “power fantasies” of the genre. Anime Genres- Shonen- technically translated as “boys manga”, these are typically adventure/battle/ coming of age stories in somewhat fantastical worlds and tend to be consistently long-running shows Ex. One Piece, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, My Hero Academia. 2 big ones that break the mold Dragonball/DBZ because in many ways it was “the first”(at least international success) it is an interesting mix of Eastern and Western styles and has a lot of references to eastern themes/ cultural among its own wacky world and doesn’t have tropes most other later shonen have. Fullmetal Alchemist stands out simply because it is such a short contained and complete story compared to other shonen. Shojo- technically “girls manga”- often focuses on romantic comedy and other diverse genres that appeal to young women. Some of these can be quite action packed as well. Notable subgenre- magical girls Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura etc. Madoka Magika is an ultra-dark- subversion of this genre Sci-Fi- Can be anything from within the sci-fi space from near-future sci-fi like steins Gate, to space things like Space Brothers, to far-future post apocalypses like Casshern Sins, or Now and Then Here and There but in anime the biggest genre is Mecha: Notable subgenre- Mecha- Giant robots fight often in space. Sci-fi that basically originated in Japan. Isekai: Journey to another world. Through portals, reincarnation, or other means travel to another world Notable subgenre ”trapped in a game”- Sword Art Online is the most famous example of this genre that in many ways launched the entire Isekai/ “game fantasy boom” but it is neither the first nor most interesting with the premise and started getting backlash a couple years after its release. Some examples like log horizon keep the nature of the relationship between the game and the other world more mysterious than SAO does. “Standard Fantasy”: Fantasy can of course be anything and in some ways, even things like Death Note, Naruto or Sailor Moon are “fantasies” but the biggest genre is a world at least loosely based on Tolkien/DND with elves and dwarfs and goblins. Within this space standard fantasy and Isekai with game-like rules, and games with heavy fantasy elements merge and feed off each other all the time. Other notable groups: Death Game: Battle till Only 1 is Left Alive: battle royale was the first of its genre, but non-Japanese media has used it to such as the recent Korean show Squid Game Slice of life- let's form a band, join a school club, save up to travel the world, and be chill and funny at home. I wish you the best as you explore anime, and looking forward to when you’ve gotten a good taste of all these genres and maybe some I haven’t listed.
So so happy the time has come for you to react to this anime! I usually don't write comments because I'm scared of accidentally spoiling things etc., but I'll be here watching :)
I can't wait for you to see the story unfold! I also really hope you watch the endings and such to the end, after the recording, since some scenes happen during it, like here. Not many times, but it happens. Often there isn't even an ending or opening, so they could cram more content in. It's one of the best anime out there for me and I can't wait for season 3. I hope you'll love it too! Also, IIRC Konosuba's and Re:Zero's authors are really good friends, so they both wrote isekais with completely different atmosphere. The half-elf's VA is also Megumin's, and she sings some of the songs, like the second ending, really beautifully :)
Bro, so glad you’re watching this! This anime has every emotion in it. From laughter to straight on waterfall of tears. You’re gonna enjoy it, and I enjoy watching your reactions!
when watching this anime, a funny thing to do is listen to the words someone says when their hair/clothes flutter in the wind. who knows, might give some food for thought
The start is a bit slow, but it will get interesting soon, the directors cut is here to fix the slow start, it's definitely the way to go. Re:Zero is one of the very few genuinely good isekai out there, if only others could learn from it...
For Subaru being someone that can pick up "oh I've been isekai'd, let's roll" he is a bit slow on the time travelling part. Still great start but that always felt weird to me.
@@sandrosliske i heard the LN said he had to shake the feeling it was a dream, but after the first few times or so they never touched on that again, so maybe it's his mind trying to protect itself??? idk
Been very excited for you to react to this series & seeing your reactions to it! As for the Silver-haired girl the reason why her voice is familiar is likely from Hell's Paradise she voiced Yuzuriha the Kunoichi the purple haired girl if it helps you remember her. Her VA name is Rie Takahashi who has voiced in quite a lot of anime series, so there is probably other series she voiced that you've seen as well. Also I'm sure there is a lot of this anime you probably were not prepared for as it has its both happy & funny moments, but also very dark moments. It is a great anime & everything has meaning to what goes on and is very important. It is one of my favorite series as I also follow the LN (Light Novel). I hope you are ready for this long journey as I'm ready to enjoy it with you! 😄
Glad you are finally reacting to Re: Zero, it's one of my favorite anime's of all time! Can't wait to watch the reactions to it and I'm happy to see you are liking it so far already!
The Re:Zero world have a lot of interesting things, but actually we don't receive a lot of information dump because Subaru is like a character who doesn't ASK things away! Sometimes this will be even bad, because Subaru seems dumb, but this is a good thing to develop himself as a better person as he realizes that he needs to slowly change.
For some history on the isekai subgenre. Isekai as a modern genre actually started as fan fiction of the series Familiar of Zero, where a guy is summoned to a parallel world. And Tappei the author of Re:Zero was among these fan fiction writers. The site these writers were writing their fan fiction on (narou) eventually banned fan fiction all together leading to people writing original stories instead while still following many of the same tropes. Thus a lot of early isekai had people summoned instead of reincarnation you typically see in newer works. Examples of this include: No game no life, re:zero, shield hero, Overlord, isekai cheat magician. One thing to note about the listed examples is that all of them started before Mushoku Tensei, which I believe is the title that really kicked of the reincarnation part you often see in isekai. However Konosuba which released only a month after MT was already parodying reincarnation so the trope might actually have actually already been popular, unless MT was just such a smash hit when it released that it immediately inspired writers to use the trope as well.
It's finally here!🎉 I've been waiting for this reaction for ages! Definitely would keep watching the director's cut. It's basically the same show, but with small changes here and there that put's more impact into the emotions and character. There are a couple changes to the animation here and there, as well as an extra song and scene. Also pretty sure the director's cut has less censorship on the blood and stuff. This is definitely my favorite show of all time. Glad to see your enjoying it so far!
Oh boy, you are in for a treat. this is the kind of show that every time you think you found the end of the rabbit hole you find a whole new layer of it hidden behind a false entrance that you could have seen for the very start if only you had the context to understand the clues and undercurrents.
Oh man...u in for a ride with this one....this anime is very lore heavy and everything that takes place pieces together as the episodes goes on...soo keep your eyes peeled as you did for this reaction
Emilia is voiced by Takahashi Rei also voice by Hu Tao of Genshin impact JP voice Megumin of Kono Suba Ai of Oshi no Ko Yuzuriha of Hells paradise And many many popular anime characters
And there you have it, the baseline for Subaru. He has died twice already. Because of this girl. The girl doesn't remember him. Also...he knows that his phone costs at least 20 holy coins - that's a LOT of money. He could have just said "screw it, I don't want anything to do with this" and sold his phone and lived happily in this new world. At least...that's what I would do.
I really hope you enjoyed this anime like i do. Also i didn't expect you to really love Subaru's character this early, more episodes to come, more character development for Subaru and i hope you'll enjoy this beautiful journey
26:36 In a lot of the isekai fantasy stories I know half elf’s r considered to be basically op/cursed/everyone is just afraid of them so they kinda get isolated a lot (I haven’t read many though so I might miss the general consensus)
I just started watching your reactions to the episodes while playing and pausing the episodes on my other screen as you go, so I can in a way watch it alongside you and see you figure stuff out.
This is gonna be great. One of my alltime favorite shows out of 1500+. Totally going to rewatch it a second time with these. Especially with S3 coming soon^TM (?) it's also a nice refresher. Also, EMT
i saw this on my list, and even though i was watching a show, and went to youtube to get the song out of my head that it played, i saw this, 2 weeks late, BUT i still have to watch it now that ive seen it is here, and i guess this means the live has been on re:zero for awhile now? been missing quite a bit as of late there are, obviously, many isekai with various reactions to being transported to the new world, black summoner, shield hero, im standing on a million lives, the great cleric, reincarnated as a slime/sword/vending machine, how not to summon the demon lord, overlord, the list goes on lol oh and for a little extra backstory on the cast, but not much, when (i think it was the last season?) was announced that it was in production, the cast seemed to be pretty emotional about it, whether thats to be back working on it, or what, but saw a video of it, and there is just a huge difference imo in how they view their roles, not simply a pay check where they put minimal effort into
i am so so happy to see this since re:zero has been my top 1 favorite anime for YEARS and i have yet to find one that tops it. also since you enjoy MYTH & ROID, a song i can really recommend is "Raison D'etre" from their fairly album
That's it, you've had it from the start: Subaru is a random high-school student, nothing special in himself, just a normal person with his own personality. He doesn't have the nature of a shonen hero with special physical, mental or magical abilities. He has no charisma. It's important to keep this in mind, and it's what makes Re:Zero all the more interesting.
Director's cut is a great way to watch Re:Zero, especially the first episode. The only issue is that it is not that great to have, for the Last episode of season 1 because of the last part it adds, and that same part will be present in season 2 episode 1 anyways. (you know why i said that guys 🤫)
Subaru Might be the best main character a show has ever given us, in terms of progressing him as a person if nothing else. Even in the first few minutes he goes from a dull eyed husk to bright and cheerful, his certainty of the tropes and the shows insistence on both baiting him and fufilling them. most anime I either hate or am ambivilent to the MC, which is my biggest gripe, but Subaru is just so fun to watch, being so relatable.
There is a re-made version of the first season, it's a bit longer with extra scenes and 2 episodes put in 1 long version. It's better to see newer version, but it's the same as old one :P
You really have to pay attention to figure things out as you watch this. There’s an endless stream of aha moments to be had by paying attention to the details.
Yay! So happy you're watching this anime! Just so you know, Yusuke Kobayashi (Subaru's Japanese VA) actually covered Realize the Season 2 opening a few days ago in the CrosSing channel. It is a channel where voice actors and artists cover songs from anime or just songs in general. You should check out his cover. It feels like Subaru was literally singing it and it's so good. Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa and Violet's Japanese VA) also appeared twice in the channel. She covered the Spirited Away theme and Weight of the World from Nier Automata (she's also the voice of 2b from Nier Automata).
Can't wait for you to finish this, one of my favorite series and my favorite Isekai. Hope you are not too hyped for this coz over-excitement can lead to disappointment and it would be a shame... The voice of the half elf is Rie Takahashi, also known for voicing Megumin in Konoshuba, Ai in Oshi No ko, Yuzuriha in Hells Paradice, Hu Tao in genshin and many more
This story is great. Think of it like this: Season one is the prolog Season two is the introduction Then the story really stars cooking., Don't miss any of the OVA either. They are very important story beats.
While i can recognize re zero isnt as perfect as other anime or for everyone, it is undoubtedly my favorite anime after season 2, which was insane. Hope you have a great time
I am so happy you love Subaru already. He is my favorite Main Character in anything ever. Character and world writing is amazing in Re:Zero and I personally can't wait for you to witness and experience the best and worst this series has to offer. It will be great to hear your thoughts on it :)
We should have demanded an eyetracker for this episode... On the other hand I already know what you were looking at, nuaghty boy! One of the best first episodes ever! Good to see you starting this anime and enjoying it. I'm sure you will love it till the very end. Have a fun journey, Luke!
The director's cut Compresses all 25 episodes into 12 one-hour-long episodes it is faster this way to watch it than to go through the entire 25 episodes
this august i came across rezero in muse asia. literally one of the best anime ive watched till now. one of most traumatized and best written main character ever. i dnt wanna experience that again. if you cant understand the character subaru you are not going to enjoy this anime .
"Every single issekai so far the caracter dies". Not quite. We have multiple kinds: - person got summoned by magic - person enters some kind of portal and arrives in the new world - person DIES and reborn in a new body, as a baby, with full memories since birth - person DIEs and reborn in a new body, as a baby, but the memories of the previous life arise years later (either as still a young child or even already as full grown adult, and sometimes both memories get mixed, sometimes the old memories and/or personality totally replaces the new one) - person DIES (or is about to die, or get into a COMA), but get transported as he is (like the firts one) - and the likes of RE: Zero: person just got transported to another world, just because, no explanation given (so far) There may be a few ones that differ about the kinds above (first season of Sword Art Online, for example), but I think the list I gave cover 99,99% of the ones I've seen or heard about, at least 😁
I only just recently realized that the cut to someone being attacked while Subaru is shopping at the convenience store is actually him being summoned the first time by his own death. 😮
All I wanna say is: ReZero is one of the few immersive animes out there. It takes the protagonist and the watchers out there into an unforgettable ride!
boyyyyy...you in for a ride. There is a point in the show where a lot people dropped the show because they don't like where the plot is progressing and also the character's actions. I can assure you that it is the author intention to make us hate it and then hit you with the most satisfying conclusion and character development in an anime ever, imo.
"Just another boring day for Natsuki Subaru. OH MY GOD! I've teleported to another world and I'm not even going to question it, I'M GOING TO HAVE THE GREATEST TIME EVEEEEEEEERRRR" - *Natsuki Subaru doesn't have the greatest time ever, the anime.* -ifyouknowyouknow-

As someone has said, you can region block Japan, so it's less likely copyright issues will arise from there. And to me this kind of audio from the anime is fine. Welcome to an unfair world where the hero shows his guts in every sense of the word to save his princess!
two reasons why i love re zero
1) the character developments
2) the plot and the world is actually insane af, not even kidding
agreed. its amazing just how many stuff goes in the background and how many subplots and themes exist in the show

Also, Puck is voiced by Yumi Uchiyama, aka Rudeus from _Mushoku Tensei_ and young Aqua from _Oshi no Ko_
I would also like to add that Subaru's VA voiced by "Kobayashi Yusuke" also voiced Senku (Dr Stone)
Edit: I also remembered that he voiced Grantz from Tanya

WTF, I watched re zero a while ago it's shocking that Rudeus shares va's with that thing XD
Re:Zero is one of the best anime adaptations ever made, but not surprised people still complain about anything.

and theres also Demon slayer with a perfect+ adaptation cause it actually somehow made the source mateiral viewable

Re:zero adaptation was by no means bad. its good. but it could have been so much more. in terms of an adaptation.... its not that good. but despite that, the anime still being epic is a testament to how great the story is.
@@anusaukko6792 Re:Zero is 8/10 adaptation but still 10/10 anime. Novel is just that good.
The reason why you recognise her voice is because she is the same VA as Megumin from KonoSuba, Yuzuriha from hell's paradise and Ai from Oshi No Ko

A small detail not many people have noticed, is that when Subaru notices he's in another world, his eyes suddenly go from dull, to shining

I was thinking he could do the same thing here in the next loop and not say that he was going to give it back to the owner.

I see what you did there :)
@@tomclanys nah... I did nothing... hehe 😏😇
Subaru is my favorite protagonist he’s extremely realistic I’m glad you already like him

Also funny thing you said in the Theater D reaction that the instrumental weirdly sounds reversed now you know why :)
Re:Zero for me is the best isekai that it takes lots of cliches and tropes out of the genre or even anime in general and subverts them the story will only get more intriguing as it goes on that makes it highly rewatchable too I didn’t even realize how great the ost was for the anime till my 2nd watch because the plot sucked me in that deeply.

I hope that when you see Subaru's low points you won't think badly of him, but still think of him as very well written character at very least.
That's what makes him so relatable and realistic, unlike all the overpowered megaconfident main characters

In my opinion, episodes 14 to 21 are a masterpiece. Those are my favorite episodes from all the animes, ever.

Anime had broken through to a much wider audience, and because TV studios were still running everything and doing localizations most shows of this period had dubs that are between good and great( but with sometimes frustrating translation decisions)
Early 2010s-online streaming slowly takes over from TV as the primary method of media and especially anime consumption, and the “seasonal” system of anime releases became much more set in stone as a system.
Anime Genres-
Shonen- technically translated as “boys manga”, these are typically adventure/battle/ coming of age stories in somewhat fantastical worlds and tend to be consistently long-running shows
Ex.
Madoka Magika is an ultra-dark- subversion of this genre
Sci-Fi- Can be anything from within the sci-fi space from near-future sci-fi like steins Gate, to space things like Space Brothers, to far-future post apocalypses like Casshern Sins, or Now and Then Here and There but in anime the biggest genre is Mecha:
Notable subgenre- Mecha- Giant robots fight often in space. Sci-fi that basically originated in Japan.
Isekai: Journey to another world. Through portals, reincarnation, or other means travel to another world
Notable subgenre ”trapped in a game”- Sword Art Online is the most famous example of this genre that in many ways launched the entire Isekai/ “game fantasy boom” but it is neither the first nor most interesting with the premise and started getting backlash a couple years after its release.
Other notable groups:
Death Game: Battle till Only 1 is Left Alive: battle royale was the first of its genre, but non-Japanese media has used it to such as the recent Korean show Squid Game
Slice of life- let's form a band, join a school club, save up to travel the world, and be chill and funny at home.

Re:Zero is one of the very few genuinely good isekai out there, if only others could learn from it...

"I like Subaru! He's got courage, he's got guts..." Yeah, wanna see them?
The Re:Zero world have a lot of interesting things, but actually we don't receive a lot of information dump because Subaru is like a character who doesn't ASK things away!
Sometimes this will be even bad, because Subaru seems dumb, but this is a good thing to develop himself as a better person as he realizes that he needs to slowly change.
It's time for peak! I cannot wait to see your reaction, especially to season 2 and its unmatchable character development!
I love it when more people appreciates re zero and the man named natsuki subaru
Finally is here, I wanted to rewatched for so long, and you gave me the excuse to watch it again
Emilia is voiced by Takahashi Rei also voice by
Hu Tao of Genshin impact JP voice
Megumin of Kono Suba
Ai of Oshi no Ko
Yuzuriha of Hells paradise
And many many popular anime characters
And there you have it, the baseline for Subaru. He has died twice already. Because of this girl. The girl doesn't remember him. Also...he knows that his phone costs at least 20 holy coins - that's a LOT of money. He could have just said "screw it, I don't want anything to do with this" and sold his phone and lived happily in this new world. At least...that's what I would do.
I really hope you enjoyed this anime like i do. Also i didn't expect you to really love Subaru's character this early, more episodes to come, more character development for Subaru and i hope you'll enjoy this beautiful journey
That "cat creature" will surprise you in episode 15... That episode is probably the best episode of season 1
26:36 In a lot of the isekai fantasy stories I know half elf’s r considered to be basically op/cursed/everyone is just afraid of them so they kinda get isolated a lot (I haven’t read many though so I might miss the general consensus)

i saw this on my list, and even though i was watching a show, and went to youtube to get the song out of my head that it played, i saw this, 2 weeks late, BUT i still have to watch it now that ive seen it is here, and i guess this means the live has been on re:zero for awhile now? been missing quite a bit as of late
there are, obviously, many isekai with various reactions to being transported to the new world, black summoner, shield hero, im standing on a million lives, the great cleric, reincarnated as a slime/sword/vending machine, how not to summon the demon lord, overlord, the list goes on lol
oh and for a little extra backstory on the cast, but not much, when (i think it was the last season?) was announced that it was in production, the cast seemed to be pretty emotional about it, whether thats to be back working on it, or what, but saw a video of it, and there is just a huge difference imo in how they view their roles, not simply a pay check where they put minimal effort into
So funny starting off remarking that Subaru didn't need to die.
Regarding Elsa: It's called being "scaroused".
i am so so happy to see this since re:zero has been my top 1 favorite anime for YEARS and i have yet to find one that tops it.
also since you enjoy MYTH & ROID, a song i can really recommend is "Raison D'etre" from their fairly album
The person at the door is essentially Yor, Shinoa, Shinobu.
That's it, you've had it from the start: Subaru is a random high-school student, nothing special in himself, just a normal person with his own personality. He doesn't have the nature of a shonen hero with special physical, mental or magical abilities. He has no charisma. It's important to keep this in mind, and it's what makes Re:Zero all the more interesting.
subaru: "karanasu, taskeimas"
Director's cut is a great way to watch Re:Zero, especially the first episode. The only issue is that it is not that great to have, for the Last episode of season 1 because of the last part it adds, and that same part will be present in season 2 episode 1 anyways. (you know why i said that guys 🤫)
but for the four year wait for season 2 it would have been so funny
The word you were looking for with the evil lady is "scaroused" and yes, that's normal.
The reason why you recognized that half-elf girl's voice might be because she also voices Megumin from Konosuba.
Can't wait for you to finish this, one of my favorite series and my favorite Isekai. Hope you are not too hyped for this coz over-excitement can lead to disappointment and it would be a shame...
The voice of the half elf is Rie Takahashi, also known for voicing Megumin in Konoshuba, Ai in Oshi No ko, Yuzuriha in Hells Paradice, Hu Tao in genshin and many more
Luke: "I'm pretty sure every single Isekai I've seen so far...the character dyes. Subaru on the other hand....."
Me: 😑
This story is great. Think of it like this:
Season one is the prolog
Season two is the introduction
Then the story really stars cooking.,
Don't miss any of the OVA either. They are very important story beats.
Seiyuu report!
-Subaru shares the same VA with Senku
-Puck shares the same VA with Rudeus (Isekai-ed ver)
-Emilia shares the same Va with Megumin
"Subaru is us"
Remember that well man, coz that word is gonna get even more real (almost sureal, even) in the upcoming story.
While i can recognize re zero isnt as perfect as other anime or for everyone, it is undoubtedly my favorite anime after season 2, which was insane. Hope you have a great time
In 2016
Two anime
Rocked the anime World on Thursday's they were
KONOSUBA
and
RE:ZERO
Everyday people couldn't stop talking about both of them
I am so happy you love Subaru already. He is my favorite Main Character in anything ever. Character and world writing is amazing in Re:Zero and I personally can't wait for you to witness and experience the best and worst this series has to offer. It will be great to hear your thoughts on it :)
This is a great show for reaction channels, super happy you gave it a shot!
Yess!!!! Finally you have start to watching this anime!!! You made my day friend!!!
We should have demanded an eyetracker for this episode... On the other hand I already know what you were looking at, nuaghty boy!
One of the best first episodes ever! Good to see you starting this anime and enjoying it. I'm sure you will love it till the very end. Have a fun journey, Luke!
So happy your finally reacting to this show!
The director's cut Compresses all 25 episodes into 12 one-hour-long episodes
it is faster this way to watch it than to go through the entire 25 episodes
The studio did also a good work with animation and plot serving in a better way too.
suburu goes from "im in an isekai? this is awesome!" to "this is the worse day of my life and its just repeating, please stop killing me" fast
this august i came across rezero in muse asia. literally one of the best anime ive watched till now. one of most traumatized and best written main character ever. i dnt wanna experience that again.
if you cant understand the character subaru you are not going to enjoy this anime .
11:48 now that you say it, that's the same voice as Megumin from Konosuba.
One of my favorite anime ever. Amazing story telling
we got our first myth and roid song already! Styx Helix for the ED!
Subaru's behavior at first is definetly what anyone who had watched anime would think if they were in his situation
"Every single issekai so far the caracter dies".
Not quite. We have multiple kinds:
- person got summoned by magic
- person enters some kind of portal and arrives in the new world
- person DIES and reborn in a new body, as a baby, with full memories since birth
- person DIEs and reborn in a new body, as a baby, but the memories of the previous life arise years later (either as still a young child or even already as full grown adult, and sometimes both memories get mixed, sometimes the old memories and/or personality totally replaces the new one)
- person DIES (or is about to die, or get into a COMA), but get transported as he is (like the firts one)
- and the likes of RE: Zero: person just got transported to another world, just because, no explanation given (so far)
There may be a few ones that differ about the kinds above (first season of Sword Art Online, for example), but I think the list I gave cover 99,99% of the ones I've seen or heard about, at least 😁
Emilia has the same VA as Megumin from Konoshuba.... Takahashi Rie
Subaru is the first anime main character that goes to isekai alive, but maybe the only one who dies inside the isekai multiple times. 😂
I only just recently realized that the cut to someone being attacked while Subaru is shopping at the convenience store is actually him being summoned the first time by his own death. 😮
Subaru's voice actor is the same one who plays Senku in Dr. stone
Really?! 2 of my top 3 anime?!
I've been waiting for this since you reacted to the opening
All I wanna say is: ReZero is one of the few immersive animes out there. It takes the protagonist and the watchers out there into an unforgettable ride!
Several episodes have post credits, so it's good to keep an eye out.
boyyyyy...you in for a ride.
OH MY GOD! I've teleported to another world and I'm not even going to question it, I'M GOING TO HAVE THE GREATEST TIME EVEEEEEEEERRRR" - *Natsuki Subaru doesn't have the greatest time ever, the anime.*
