Would you consider reacting to the teaser trailer for season 2 before starting it? I'm sure your reaction would be great, seeing you trying to analyze what's going for the season.
And just imagine, we had to wait for YEARS before we got any answer about that... We had literally years without any hope for season 2, it was almost like a No-Game-No-Life situation.
Knowing him and how he feels about certain things, I have a feeling he is going to seriously love season 2. I cant wait for it. Season 1 ReZero is good. Season 2 is a masterpiece
Since you now know Rem has been forgotten again, I can say that the one who originally wrote and sent the letter was Rem. The reason it came up blank was because its contents were erased the moment the memory of her was erased. I wouldn't consider this a spoiler because the anime never really explains this.
@@Dopey_Kong they didnt really cut it out, many of us fans had to go rewatch the letter part after season 2 came out to actually catch that hidden detail. many things are hidden in season 2 as well
I like this kind of things in anime..re:zero actually treats its audience as thinking human beings capable of discovering hidden messages in the anime without spoonfeeding..
The crazy part that didn't make it in the anime though, is the fact that Subaru felt something was not right. A bit later he admits he knew Ram should have been worried to see him return alone, he should have realized what the blank letter meant, damn, even Beatrice asked him if he knew the blue haired maid girl (in WN). He chose to not worry about her and focus on Emilia. His second suicide came without a moment of hesitation.
The rem thing is the one thing that was added to the director's cut. the original let you have a happy ending to season 1. but the rem thing is also at the start of the first episode of season 2 so nothing was lost in the adaptation except that anime only's were spared years of a brutal cliffhanger.
Back in 2016, it made sense that they would have ended it on a happy note since there was no guarantee that it would get a season 2. But Director's Cut on the other hand was released in preparation for season 2, so they had no problem including that this time.
@@raibyo They still do that. Season 2 should end up in cliffhanger, but once again they decided to don't do it with fear of never getting a new season, despite being relative popular. If the rumors about season 3 become true and they adapt until Arc 6, then they need to give THAT (if you know what I'm talking about) cliffhanger.
@@matheussavelar Whats rumors ? the season 3 of re zero is officially in production they got even a teaser for it but i don't know if they will adapt until arc 6 like you said. (i'm anime only btw)
That ending is the real ending as meant to be in the source material. The anime cut the last part out when it aired because it was unclear when season 2 would air. They made the right call back then because that would have been a nasty cliffhanger to sit on for 4 years.
Personally I think that watching it after a certain episode of season 2 is better, the movie has some spoilers that I wish they didnt include due to it being released before season 2
@@CocogoatMemes Agree~ Watch s2 first and then watch the movie will be a better experience~ s2 directly picks up where s1 ended~ The movie is like an extra backstory~
If you never looked it up, punitive essentially means something done as a punishment, so the punitive force meant a force there to punish the Witch’s Cult. I know this has nothing to do with the actual show but thought you might want to know.
You asked if Julius was stronger than the red haired knight, Reinhard and, to put it into perspective, Reinhard could have handled the Betelgeuse alone without getting a single scratch. Julius was called the greatest knight because he is what a knight should be, he stands as one who represents the very idea of knighthood.
(Not really spoilers, just lore and stuff the Rezero author said) Reinhard ties for strongest character in Re:Zero universe and that only because him and the other character can’t meaningfully harm one another, that man is Saitama levels of bullshit OP.
1:07:26 : Luke's disappointment and suffering is entertainment for me... Also for me, this is the best series on this channel, I really enjoyed every episode here.... I can't wait to see the reaction for the movie and the 2nd season...
The frozen bond isn't a recap. Is very important for season 2 so you should watch it. Edit: Btw I was laughing so hard watching your sudden realization about the "Who's Rem" moment at the end of the episode
just to clarify things, the blank letter in the previous episode had to do with rem ..... yes indeed also the reason why otto pushed subaru off the carriage was because he was the most affected by the white whale's screams and went mad, like literally insane, since he had the divine protection which allowed him to understand other living creatures
I’ve been a big fan of Re:Zero for many years, and I’m going to admit… I never made that connection. I always thought the Witch’s Cult spy intercepted and swapped out the letter. But the other way is so much more sinister.
@@cedricmichaud552 no rem herself wrote the letter because subaru doesnt really know how to read and write this world's languages yet. remember he was learning it back in the first few episodes
@@sorakirisaki5330 Fun fact: In the anime it´s not really shown, that rem wrote that letter. Only in the manga and possibly in the light novel (never read the novel, i´m guessing it happend).
I absolutely love the scene of Betelgeuse's rejection. Not only is it a smart play by Subaru, its also him rejecting his old way of thinking. He thought that doing things for Emilia meant that he was owed her affection, and doesn't take it well when he doesn't receive it. Now, he's able to realize how selfish that is, and puts Betelgeuse in the same situation, knowing that he will have the same reaction. It sounds so simple, but its executed so freaking well.
1:04:43 Rem sent the letter... You might be able to connect the dots from there... the person that sent the letter doesnt exist so the contents written by her also went disappeared.
Luke, that cloak has magic that makes the wearer unrecognizable. That's why Emilia usually wears it when going to the village and such. But she left it with Subaru when they fought
Subaru to Emilia is what Rem was to Subaru; and coincidentally what Subaru was to Rem. I'm glad you gave this series a shot, see you in second season, and don't die!
Since you’re watching the directors cut this is probably the episode I looked forward to the most for your reaction. Skipped half the cliff hangers but got this evil one as a parting gift from season 1 😂 In the original airing it ended after the credits rolled It was Juliuses sword strike that killed Subaru at the end of Episode 23 he swung his sword down there at the end 10:57 In one of the early episodes Betty called Puck “nii-Chan” which translates to “big brother” but the sub made it into “bubby” maybe that’s why you’re a bit confused 13:36 Interesting that Petra was able to see through the magic cloak and in episode 15 Subaru finds her with Ram with her eyes gauged out by the witches cult 16:20 Emilia deduced it might be him the way he was talking to her and the children since there’s no one else which knows the village kids that well and talks for her in the way that Subaru does 16:45 The blank letter was written by Rem btw, that was smart of the author because the dialogue implied Subaru was the one that wrote and sent it Subaru could become an actor with that Performance in front of Betelgeuse. The Dragons name is Patrasche 23:10 not confirming or denying anything since we still don’t know as light novel readers and we’re currently in arc 8/12 the anime goes till arc 4 but yeah you might wanna take a look at the opening scene of episode 1 theres certain implications 31:31 Alao nice they teased this being possible with the magic that connects peoples gates “nect” that Julius mentioned in the Previous episode. Also love Subarus & Juliuses character dynamic 32:50 Roswaal is at the “Sanctuary” when they were talking about how to go about the attack in the hallway it was said that Ram will join him to evacuate the other half of the villagers there to 38:19 It’s a meme in the community that it’s Satella that keeps selling out all the Subaru merch that’s why there isn’t any but of all the female characters there is a ton ☠️ 42:03 not sure if you saw in the comments before but because of Otto’s ability to hear animals he kept hearing the voice of the while whale which drove him nuts he actually felt bad afterwards and sent his ground dragon back to Subaru 45:23 funny you said in ep 15 that Betelgeuse doesn’t know what sloth means and now Subaru is also saying he’s not sloth bc he works uselessly hard 47:05 Re:Zero is great at having dialogue of other characters or a foe mirror Subaru in how he acts or what he said previously. It’s almost the same thing Subaru said to Emilia in episode 13. Nice you picked up on the divine protection being broken I don’t think I ever saw any other reactors pick up on that before. The book flew back into the carriage because Subaru punched him 53:29 pair of shoes 57:57 very well explained! 1:07:47 Welcome to Re:Zero Luke, we have suffering, pain, trauma & ptsd glad you joined us it’s very fun here. FMAB has the truth within the truth, Re:Zero has who’s rem within who’s rem Personality for the characters and world building I actually like season 2 even more than the first one. This wild ride is far form over yet
"Deduce" and "deduct" are two different words. "Deducted" means "removed amount from a total" (usually refers to money), while "deduced" means "thought about and figured out"
your comment on Petra is literally just a spoiler (I haven't read the LN, but it definitely seems like you're hinting that Petra has special eyes that allow her to see things that others can not), saying that something hasn't been revealed in the future is a minor spoiler, hinting that the sanctuary is important is a minor spoiler. It's better to just be safe and 100% avoid anything that could be a spoiler. The benefit of having him read "Roswaal is at the “Sanctuary” when they were talking about how to go about the attack in the hallway it was said that Ram will join him to evacuate the other half of the villagers there to" is definitely not worth the risk of him having a slight idea of what is to come. It would make more sense to comment that when they actually show it.
@@ExusiaiClips how’s it a spider if happened 10 episodes ago and now he was wondering himself why she can see through it I didn’t even read te we novel to figure there might be more to her than she leds on
@@SmthPositive_ If nothing happened relating to that, then it is not a spoiler. It seemed to me that you were alluding to the fact that her eyes are special, but now it seems that that was just a theory that you had.
The funny thing is...do you remember the last conversation between Rem and Subaru? Rem wanted to go with Subaru, but he persuaded her to go with Crusch because she was tired after the fight. Such a small decision...turned into such a huge mistake.
First, the "huge mistake" probably made a world of difference. Second, in the novel Rem feigned her near-death to force out a confession by Subaru. I think that made him to remember how Rem CAN die and how she's mindless always ready to waste her life, in particular when the Witch Cult is the enemy. Subaru acted of care and fear, Rem acted 'cause is a yandere.
You reaction is exactly how I felt the first time I saw this ending too Luke. I feel your pain too and your frustration especially since she is my favorite character.
On thing I feel the need to remind you is that Betty is a Great spirit, just like Puck, taking on a humanoid form. Puck is Emilias father because of their contract(I guess??), and as Spirits Beako and Puck naturally feel a sense of strong kinship towards one another.
You’ve only seen Betty leave the mansion once, and at that time she was under a temporary contract with Subaru (to protect him from getting murdered). That was the episode when Rem died and Ram wanted to revenge-murder Subaru, but he instead jumped off the cliff to reset the cycle. Otherwise, Beatrice is normally under a different contract, which doesn’t allow her to usually leave the mansion.
"you can never have enough happiness, if you have so much that it overflows, you can always share it" this line is something that has had a very big influence in my life. its such an obviously cheesy line, but it really was a line that i dont think i'll forget. normally i'd be sadistically laughing as you found out about rem but, it is such an evil end to a season, now just imagine that final after credits scene didnt happen and you were made to believe everything was fine for years. yeah thats how it was for anyone watching the show before the directors cut. this is the only piece of new content in the directors cut, and you can understand that people (who didnt start reading the light novel) were absolutely flabbergasted
"I KNEW IT! There had to be something. It's Re:Zero, it's happiness but behind the happiness is a dagger I am gonna cut your balls of with. COME ON!" - Luke 2023
Hopefully you now know why Emelia wasn’t happy the first time Subaru said he didn’t see her the same way as he saw other people, and he couldn’t treat her the same as everyone else. While he was trying to say he liked her, she interpreted it as a negative. Did he see her as a white-haired, half elf that resembles the witch like everyone else did.
42:26 - The wind is pushing me~ Into the clouds again~ I feel the blood in my veins~ Over 11 years later and my brain is still rotted by the title theme for Dragon's Dogma...
As said last time, Frozen Bonds before Season 2 👍 Fun fact that final scene was actually not in the original anime despite being the real conclusion to this Arc. The Anime decided to have a happy ending with a conclusion incase they couldn't get a second season. Since the directors cut came right before Season 2 they decided to throw this scene in as a little teaser and some more classic Theater D(espair) 😉
also luke, just needed to say that your reactions are perfect. i saw some comments saying that you miss things and read too into other normal stuff but im honestly impressed. you've caught onto 85% of the show which is unbelievable for a first time watching it. and you're genuinly in love with the characters so dont listen to the bozos who say your reactions are anything short of the best re zero reactions on youtube
16:14 Emilia almost recognized Subaru based on the voice and some knowledge nobody else would have, but didn't quite get there before he left The last time Subaru came to the village wearing this cloak was when he was scouting for his date with Emilia. Both then and now, Petra is the first and potentially only person to immediately recognize that it is Subaru under the cloak that is made specifically to stop people from recognizing you (also, think of the cloak like an item in an Assassin's Creed game that makes people accumulate weariness of you slower. If they already know who you are, the item does nothing, but it would make people who haven't made the connection take longer to do so) 32:47 Reinhard, the red-haired knight, is the Sword Saint/Master Swordsman. He is so unbelievably and incomparable powerful that comparing him to the rest of the knights is like comparing an elephant to an ant. Since Reinhard is in a league all his own and already has a title, Julius claims the title of the "Greatest of Knights" (or the "Knight of Knights" if you wanna get a little cheeky with it) 45:14 Subaru wrote "The End," in Japanese, in Betelgeuse's Gospel Fun fact! The ending of the episode (before the credits and the after-credits scene) is entirely anime original! In both pieces of source material (Light Novel and Web Novel), the story goes from Subaru narrowly avoiding death to...that's weird, I could've sworn I was just about to talk another character, but I can't seem to remember. Sorry about that Speaking of a character that I inexplicably can't remember within the lore of this comment, it seems implied (unless it's confirmed and I forgot) that Rem was the one who sent the letter. The erasure of people from the Remories of others can't undo physical actions, it just alters how people perceive the memory of that person's actions, like when Ram swore that Subaru did the heavy lifting fighting against the Ulgarms in a previous loop 1:09:32 Minor spoiler for the first episode of next season (and my final note): In the novels, when Subaru finds out for himself that Rem has been completely erased from existence, he immediately and without hesitation kills himself. Only to be brought back to after it happened, anyway.
I mean for that last one that’s basically what happens in s2. He killed himself off screen though in the LN as far as I remember. Might have even done it a few times.
@@hiiamelecktro4985 In the anime, it's less instant and instinctual as Subaru puts more thought into it I prefer the way the novel does it, it goes to SHOW how Emilia and Rem are equally important to him. I don't dislike how the anime did it, I just prefer the original
I think the letter is explained in the first or second episode of the second season as far as I remember, and it is implied. maybe a spoiler tag?, although they said that she wrote it
@@minos8948 Correct me if I'm wrong, but every piece of the puzzle is there for us to solve the mystery of the letter once Emilia says "Who is Rem?" (or even the moment we find out about the blank letter if you as the viewer assume that the existence wipe has ha[[need again) We know Rem has been deleted and we know that having your existence wiped by the White Whale rewrites people's memories
@PneumaAsh I'm not sure. I think all the pieces are there, except I don't remember if they say that Rem sent the letter until season 2, or they said it before. I do remember that I put everything together until season 2, it's been a while since I watched it
Everyone always asks who is Rem? But they always forget to ask _how_ is Rem? I'm so excited for your season 2 reaction. It will both give you many answers and just as many new questions. It's a huge info dump and it is glorious! Season 2 is what drove this anime into the masterpiece range for me. Season 1 had it on my list in the top 30s, season 2 skyrocketed it into number 2 and it has kept that place ever since. It is a character driven masterpiece which I'm sure you'll love! That said, I hope you're ready for even more pain and suffering :))
Funfact the Witch Cultist Finger that poses as a merchant can actually be seen way back in episode 14 as the one who directed Subaru to Otto when Rem left him behind in the night. He can also be seen with the merchants caravan in episode 16. Re:Zero is amazingly good at hiding these characters in plain sight.
23:15 If you think about it, when Subaru told Emilia that he'd save her the first time he died, he thought of her as Satella, the name of the Witch of Envy, so maybe there's a connection there. Also, maybe he didn't remember the first reset and his original save point was back on earth, and the voices he heard were him just remembering his dying words
The Rem cliffhanger wasn't included in the original version. The original version back in 2016 ended after Subaru's confession to Emilia. Back then it made sense since they had no idea when it might get a season 2 or if it might even get a season 2. But the Director's Cut on the other hand was released 6 months before season 2's release in preparation for the season 2, so this time, they had no problem including that cliffhanger, since they already know the sequel is coming right after.
10:50 elfs and spirits get along easily is a common fantasy trope. betty and puck are both 400 year old great spirits so referring to each other as siblings makes sense (a great spirit can have basically any appearance but they have a preferred form pucks a cat beatrice is a little girl). the frozen bonds movie and season 2 of the anime explains the puck and emilia relationship.
Such a beautiful ending of a season just to be 180'd by only 3 words. I really love this show. ALSO The Frozen Bonds is very important to watch before season 2!!!
I always found it interesting (something I picked up right away) how his two thousand reasons for liking her coincides with Satella's "two thousand shadows". Also I believe you're a few episodes ahead so you might roughly know what I'm talking about. In case maybe you haven't picked up on it yet, I believe her "selfish" reasons for taking the throne are explained in Frozen Bond, if not later in season 2. Definitely shown in the OVA, but it might not have been explicitly explained until the second season. (Being vague for spoiler reasons, I don't know what you've seen so far and I'm unsure of when that topic is brought up in the show)
I think the relations between Emilia, Puck, and Betty is just adoptive. Like they decided that's how they see each other. And the ending lol. After all that happy stuff then they hit you with that! It was fun seeing you realize it was coming. Good luck with season 2! It'd be more brutality in there!
yeah its surprising Luke hasn't realized yet that calling somebody with the title of a family member in asian cultures is not nearly as literal as he seems to assume
@@schoolwork4056 I assumed he must've at least known by now since he has watched a bnuch of anime already. I thought someone in the comment section might've explained it already given how vocal his viewers are when it comes to giving information.
"Punitive" Of or pertaining to punishment; involving, awarding, or inflicting punishment. I think you confused it with "puny" and "diminutive" which both mean small.
10:23 When they were talking about timing it was in reference to how subaru has so meticulously set up everything going on, so it seemed like the timing on everything was ig "artificial" or too good to be true something along those lines. Also I can see how the way the anime addresses Bettys contract can be misleading, its less that she must stay in the library and more that she must protect it unless her contract is broken or something so she doesn't NEED to be in there 24/7 but she shouldnt be too far doing whatever. 47:59 with the lack of wind resistance you can imagine the rotors on the wheels are pretty uninhibited, and the state petelgeuse is in isn't very "physical" he's more of a shadow. He got caught in the fast moving rotor and it did indeed kill him, I mean imagine yourself getting caught in a rotor like that it wouldn't be pretty either way. It doesn't seem I need to mention that emilia couldnt see him back at 7:12 cuz you caught on, but what i will say is that you were right about petra seeing him. Did you remember in ep 15 when subaru saw petra and her eyes were taken out? There is something special about her eyesight.... Wilheim and co. could recognize him because they were told before hand, if you know someone is in a disguise then its not really gonna work on them.
49:05 The cultist gives a fiendly wave to Subaru before Wilhelm kills him. People speculate that the cultist was about to cast a spell before Wil took him out but in actuality the cultists are completely insane and would actually serve under Subaru's command due to his connection with the witch.
Reinhard is the strongest knight, and also the strongest person in the Re:Zero world (confirmed by the author). Also, I can't remember very well, but I think the reason Subaru called Julius the greatest knight is because despite him being weaker than Reinhard, I believe he is the knight with the most accomplishments.
@@gwslopes im pretty sure that he cant do anything about 6th dimensional beings like mister M from superman.... anime and comics have a lot of op characters so reinhard isnt the strongest coz people can delete universes and if they destroy od lagna then reinhard becomes way way weaker
bro if you think the ending was brutal then imagine watching this when it came out every week to get to the end and then waiting for next season to release or just hoping they would release another season. that was brutal.
10:26 Yeah she did it because of Subarus influence He truly is a Lolimancer 10:49 Puck means he is her caretaker Thats why he calls her his daughter Considering Puck is much older than Emilia
10:25 Yeah, but Ram mentioned that Betty's weakened outside the mansion 48:40 I don't think it's the wheel that killed Betelgeuse. You know, his entire body was in flames.
On first release of first season, thei never mentioned Rem´s fate in last episode, it was added in Re:release just before second season, I think we all know why.
9:49 subaru has time travel powers and knowledge of events to come (plus rosawaals domain is a few days from the captial by cart) the fact they got there in time to evacuate the village and raid betelguese early would normally mean they the info a long time in advance normally (along with most of the attack details with how well they do) so the timing being convient (thanks subaru) would be kinda suspicious (the reason why crusch implied in that one loop of this scenerio that subaru is a suspect of working with the cult) emilia has noticed this. No spies or knights have been able to locate the witches cult on their own before they attack before subaru did it in this arc/season
Hahahahahaha Yeah, that's what you get for watching the director's cut. This is the ending that was in the light novels this is adapted from, but in the original anime run that ending wasn't included. It ended with Emilia at the field of flowers.
This was one of the first anime series I'd ever watched, and I watched the regular TV version (NOT the director's cut). So when episode 25 finished (with Emilia thanking Subaru for saving her), I thought that was the end of the series. The whole series starts with Subaru saying he's going to save Emilia, and (Season 1) ends on Emilia thanking Subaru for saving her, so my smooth brain thought that was the *whole* show. And I was like "Nothing was answered at all! Why is he here?! What about the royal election?! What about all the other plot points?!" For some reason, I didn't consider that the story continued in light novel form until I saw Season 2 was announced. I then went back and re-watched the whole series at that point and really fell in love with it. The animation, the art direction, the soundtrack, the dialogue, the foreshadowing, pretty much everything. I'm now completely up to date on the web novel and eagerly await Season 3. Super happy you seemed to enjoyed the show, even with all the despair (including that gut wrenching S1 director's cut ending)! I really like how you actively watch and take in every little piece of information; that's rather important for this series as a whole! I look forward to your future reactions!
1:11:07 This scene was only included in the director's cut, because in 2016 they had no plans for a 2nd season. The reason for cutting such an important scene? Because it would be too cruel without at least a sequel prediction. But even so, for me it was very cruel, a week waiting to find out what was going to happen, wow, it was horrible. Am I sadistic? I love how Re:zero makes me feel
Make sure to watch the movie/special episode before starting season two! It's a cool extra episode that foreshadows a bunch of stuff for season 2 without spoiling any of it. If you watch it after season 2, you are just gonna think "Oh, we already know the answer to this mystery..." through the entire thing.
I find it funny that he has not come up by himself with the theory that Emilia becomes the witch and travels back in time, setting of the events of the story. Usually everyone comes up with that one when they realize that the witch can reset/ rewind time.
13:27 for such a long time i was convinced this along with the begin of episode 15 were a hint that there was something about petra we didnt know. i honestly think i was crazy now, though it is still a possibility it is clearly just petra being able to figure out its subaru in this moment
You are correct that what happened to Petelgeuse was because he was partially out of the Divine Protection of Wind. When he grabbed the gospel, he was partially outside of it. Then, when Subaru kicked him, got the gospel back, and wrote "The End" in the blank pages with his blood, Petelgeuse ended up just far enough outside of it with part of his body that the difference in air pressure/wind speed shredded his body apart. Something I don't see get brought up very often for "Who is Rem?" reactions is that the anime was less obvious about Subaru's talk with Emilia than in the light novels. From what I've heard, rather than just bringing up that Rem told him she loved him, Subaru was saying that he loves Rem in the same way he loves Emilia, and he wants permission to date both of them. That's probably why he assumed Ram would knock him out for saying all of that.
One thing to note though, Petra was one of the smartest in the village which was able to emphatize with everyone including subaru, betty, and emilia. Because she was smart enough, she was able to know it was emilia wearing a robe and it was subaru who she was talking to in this episode, although wilhelm is an exception because he was perceptive enough to know who's behind the robe
You're too damn smart. I was caught so fucking off guard by that last "who is rem?" it absolutely destroyed me. Like, the whale's gone, how could you possibly expect that? Idk but you saw it coming from a mile away. Well played.
56:33 Yes! Thank you! Some people really just don't understand this at all. "Team Rem" would say that Subaru is an idiot or an asshole, some going as far as to say that it's "bad writing", and even some of "Team Emilia" get it wrong by arguing that "Rem killed Subaru once, therefore Subaru won't fall in love with Rem". That's not the case at all. I feel like the people who say those things have never experienced being in love or something. Love cannot be rationalized with logic. And when you love someone romantically, you can only bring yourself to romantically love *only* that person (unless you're a two-timer)
Side bar. The “Who is Rem” scene was omitted from the original airing of season 1 (thank god) and got added when the directors cut aired around 4 years later when we knew season 2 is just around the corner (technically it was planned that season 2 airs next week but they had to delay it 1 season)
Funny thing, the "who's rem" is new scene add by the director cut as a teaser before the season 2 aired, and for 3 years as anime only watcher i thought it just a meme and i actually shocked not because heartbreaking the scene but because its not a meme but an actual spoiler. 😂
I'll only tell you (without spoiler) that in episode 1 of session 2, look at the images that the author placed at minute 10:39 (you must use slow speed, because they go by very quickly)
Thank you so much for everything. I've never commented so far any of your videos, i've been always silently enjoying your reactions who kept me good company. Nobody really knows how much i love Re:Zero, i have rewatched only the first season not less than 20 times between the "standard" version and the director's cut. I've found you totally randomically time ago by your reactions on Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and since then i've been loving your reactions, so honest and such emotional reactions. I've been here watching all the reactions of the entire Re:Zero and i'm also enjoying very a lot your journey on Parasyte The Maxim, since that one is another very emotional Anime that i love and that i've been enjoying rewatch it through your reactions. This one have been my very first comment ever here on your channel, and i wanted to make it the most accurate and emotional possible. I really appreciate all your work here. I really mean it. So once again, thank you so much for sharing and entertaining me. You really saved me a little in these last weeks. Thank you.
16:12 Emilia had an odd feeling about him and Wilhelm may have known he was going to come in already. Petra seeing Subaru is due to a theory she has special eyes and that is why her eyes were hollow in episode 15 because someone in the witchcult noticed they were special and plucked them out. That also explains why see was able to recognise it was Emilia who was with Subaru when they visited the village together to do the radio calisthenics.
The reason that i love that i hold Re:Zero in my watchlist for 4 years was that i finished like 2 weeks before season 2 so i didnt suffer the wait with that cliffhanger😎
The relationship between Subaru and Julius definitely starts to feel like an "iron sharpening iron" kind of friendship. Conflict is not necessarily a bad thing, especially when both sides grow through it.
at the 01:02:00 mark I was like "Hohohoho, smile and laugh while you can Luke... Here comes the cliffhanger that anime-only watchers got slapped in the face with for YEARS"
so something to mention, the creator of re zero was suprised at the fanbase reception of rem during the releases. the author wanted people to be fully onboard with emilia but rem character was too lovable. so at the end of season 1 final episode airing i think it was about a week later where he mentioned something about cutting rem off in a way. at first it was speculated that he was just gonna kill her off permenantly but then the author got really creative with his decision. the rest just have to be witnessed. when this first came out, aside from the manga, i was keeping up with everything re zero.
so there was an april fools chapter the original author published one year, where Rem accepted Subaru's proposal a couple of episodes ago and the two eloped to another country, got married, bought a house, raised a couple of kids, grew old and died together, and then Subaru reappeared respawned back at the Appa shop, resetting decades of progress. there was another april fools chapter where subaru kept going to fight the Bowel Hunter on his own several thousand times without getting Reinhardt's help, and was eventually able to John Wick her ass he was so practiced at fighting her- by which point he'd forgotten all about Amelia since he hadn't seen her in over a thousand years and had forgotten why he was even beefing with the bowel hunter in the first place. Not strictly canon but worth considering regarding how the checkpoints work.
Actually what ends up happening in that other What if was that Subaru goes crazy from dying to Elsa too much in season 1, joins the Witch's Cult, and makes Emilia queen by literally killing all other threats and political rivals.
When you got it right about Rem your expression was priceless I ended up laughing a bit too hard on this one xD Well in the normal releases we got the "happy version ending" so I was pretty surprised too actually 😂 On a side note, for those interested in a different perspective of (re)watching the first season, it would be to only watch the moments along the "main storyline" as we do not see Subaru dying but we can feel what he looks like in the eyes of everyone else which is pretty interesting (Someone edited a compiled version but it can still be done with the correct order for the episodes). Can't wait to see your next theories and reactions 😁

And just imagine, we had to wait for YEARS before we got any answer about that...
We had literally years without any hope for season 2, it was almost like a No-Game-No-Life situation.
Just FYI Punitive in this context refers to punishment. A Punitive force is sent to Punish (in this case criminals)
Happy happy happy. Oh boy its about to get waaaaaaay worse in s2.
If Luke thinks season 1 was brutal, he is gonna Love/Hate season 2
Knowing him and how he feels about certain things, I have a feeling he is going to seriously love season 2. I cant wait for it. Season 1 ReZero is good. Season 2 is a masterpiece
The first half of season 2 is Peak ReZero Imo. The build up is insane
Season 2 really took what season 1 was already doing and somehow dialed up the crazy to 11.
@@CocogoatMemes Season 3 will be peak Re:Zero.
Wait to season 3
Since you now know Rem has been forgotten again, I can say that the one who originally wrote and sent the letter was Rem. The reason it came up blank was because its contents were erased the moment the memory of her was erased. I wouldn't consider this a spoiler because the anime never really explains this.
Oh, I never knew that !
Wow that a huge thing to cut out wtf. Makes sense why the letter was blank now because she disappeared

At least we would be in the acceptences face now....
Back in 2016, it made sense that they would have ended it on a happy note since there was no guarantee that it would get a season 2. But Director's Cut on the other hand was released in preparation for season 2, so they had no problem including that this time.
That's actually a really considerate design
Right???? That would have been absolutely miserable lol
I want season 3 to end with “that” cliffhanger😁

The film provides additional backstory necessary for Season 2, otherwise you might struggle to fully grasp certain peculiar aspects of "things".

To be fair Julius is also explicitly said to be the third strongest knight behind two extremely strong characters so he's very strong himself
To be fair I'm pretty sure the author once said Reinhard could win a fight with The Sun

The frozen bond isn't a recap. Is very important for season 2 so you should watch it.
Edit: Btw I was laughing so hard watching your sudden realization about the "Who's Rem" moment at the end of the episode
just to clarify things, the blank letter in the previous episode had to do with rem ..... yes indeed
also the reason why otto pushed subaru off the carriage was because he was the most affected by the white whale's screams and went mad, like literally insane, since he had the divine protection which allowed him to understand other living creatures
youtube.com/@raisnagaming1412?si=ciOrq_w5HmFnqrtr
I’ve been a big fan of Re:Zero for many years, and I’m going to admit… I never made that connection. I always thought the Witch’s Cult spy intercepted and swapped out the letter. But the other way is so much more sinister.
So because he probably mentioned Rem in his letter, the whole letter became blank, it makes sense.
@@cedricmichaud552 no rem herself wrote the letter because subaru doesnt really know how to read and write this world's languages yet. remember he was learning it back in the first few episodes

That dragon eats good in season 4 ( reply me if you want to know what I am talking abt )
Skipped half the cliff hangers but got this evil one as a parting gift from season 1 😂 In the original airing it ended after the credits rolled
It was Juliuses sword strike that killed Subaru at the end of Episode 23 he swung his sword down there at the end
10:57 In one of the early episodes Betty called Puck “nii-Chan” which translates to “big brother” but the sub made it into “bubby” maybe that’s why you’re a bit confused
13:36 Interesting that Petra was able to see through the magic cloak and in episode 15 Subaru finds her with Ram with her eyes gauged out by the witches cult
16:20 Emilia deduced it might be him the way he was talking to her and the children since there’s no one else which knows the village kids that well and talks for her in the way that Subaru does
16:45 The blank letter was written by Rem btw, that was smart of the author because the dialogue implied Subaru was the one that wrote and sent it
Subaru could become an actor with that Performance in front of Betelgeuse. The Dragons name is Patrasche
23:10 not confirming or denying anything since we still don’t know as light novel readers and we’re currently in arc 8/12 the anime goes till arc 4 but yeah you might wanna take a look at the opening scene of episode 1 theres certain implications
31:31 Alao nice they teased this being possible with the magic that connects peoples gates “nect” that Julius mentioned in the Previous episode. Also love Subarus & Juliuses character dynamic
32:50 Roswaal is at the “Sanctuary” when they were talking about how to go about the attack in the hallway it was said that Ram will join him to evacuate the other half of the villagers there to

your comment on Petra is literally just a spoiler (I haven't read the LN, but it definitely seems like you're hinting that Petra has special eyes that allow her to see things that others can not), saying that something hasn't been revealed in the future is a minor spoiler, hinting that the sanctuary is important is a minor spoiler. First, the "huge mistake" probably made a world of difference.
Second, in the novel Rem feigned her near-death to force out a confession by Subaru.

On thing I feel the need to remind you is that Betty is a Great spirit, just like Puck, taking on a humanoid form.
Puck is Emilias father because of their contract(I guess??), and as Spirits Beako and Puck naturally feel a sense of strong kinship towards one another.
16:14 mann subaru literally said the coat has a spell that prevents recognition lol
Emilia isn’t literally Puck’s daughter. The way he takes care of her is more of a fatherly role, which is why he refers to Emilia as his daughter.

normally i'd be sadistically laughing as you found out about rem but, it is such an evil end to a season, now just imagine that final after credits scene didnt happen and you were made to believe everything was fine for years. yeah thats how it was for anyone watching the show before the directors cut. this is the only piece of new content in the directors cut, and you can understand that people (who didnt start reading the light novel) were absolutely flabbergasted

Even worse, after all Emilia does not know Subarus initial motivation. With the smell and so on it seemed, as he is a witch cultist in fact.

Fun fact that final scene was actually not in the original anime despite being the real conclusion to this Arc.
I agree with you.
You can't even catch 40% of the show without re-watch + knowing even more beyond two seasons.
Seconded, Luke's journey has been a joy to watch 👍
16:14 Emilia almost recognized Subaru based on the voice and some knowledge nobody else would have, but didn't quite get there before he left
The last time Subaru came to the village wearing this cloak was when he was scouting for his date with Emilia. Both then and now, Petra is the first and potentially only person to immediately recognize that it is Subaru under the cloak that is made specifically to stop people from recognizing you (also, think of the cloak like an item in an Assassin's Creed game that makes people accumulate weariness of you slower. If they already know who you are, the item does nothing, but it would make people who haven't made the connection take longer to do so)
32:47 Reinhard, the red-haired knight, is the Sword Saint/Master Swordsman. He is so unbelievably and incomparable powerful that comparing him to the rest of the knights is like comparing an elephant to an ant. Since Reinhard is in a league all his own and already has a title, Julius claims the title of the "Greatest of Knights" (or the "Knight of Knights" if you wanna get a little cheeky with it)
45:14 Subaru wrote "The End," in Japanese, in Betelgeuse's Gospel
Fun fact! Sorry about that
Speaking of a character that I inexplicably can't remember within the lore of this comment, it seems implied (unless it's confirmed and I forgot) that Rem was the one who sent the letter. The erasure of people from the Remories of others can't undo physical actions, it just alters how people perceive the memory of that person's actions, like when Ram swore that Subaru did the heavy lifting fighting against the Ulgarms in a previous loop
1:09:32 Minor spoiler for the first episode of next season (and my final note):
In the novels, when Subaru finds out for himself that Rem has been completely erased from existence, he immediately and without hesitation kills himself. Only to be brought back to after it happened, anyway.
I mean for that last one that’s basically what happens in s2. He killed himself off screen though in the LN as far as I remember. Might have even done it a few times.
@@hiiamelecktro4985 In the anime, it's less instant and instinctual as Subaru puts more thought into it
I prefer the way the novel does it, it goes to SHOW how Emilia and Rem are equally important to him. I don't dislike how the anime did it, I just prefer the original
I think the letter is explained in the first or second episode of the second season as far as I remember, and it is implied. maybe a spoiler tag?, although they said that she wrote it
@@minos8948 Correct me if I'm wrong, but every piece of the puzzle is there for us to solve the mystery of the letter once Emilia says "Who is Rem?" (or even the moment we find out about the blank letter if you as the viewer assume that the existence wipe has ha[[need again)
We know Rem has been deleted and we know that having your existence wiped by the White Whale rewrites people's memories
@PneumaAsh I'm not sure. I think all the pieces are there, except I don't remember if they say that Rem sent the letter until season 2, or they said it before. I do remember that I put everything together until season 2, it's been a while since I watched it

It seems like what Betelgeuse feels towards Satella.
Which he remember what Satella did to him.
Hmm....
Oh thats why im confused, i watched the original
10:50 elfs and spirits get along easily is a common fantasy trope. betty and puck are both 400 year old great spirits so referring to each other as siblings makes sense (a great spirit can have basically any appearance but they have a preferred form pucks a cat beatrice is a little girl). the frozen bonds movie and season 2 of the anime explains the puck and emilia relationship.
You really should have a spoiler warning on that since Beako is revealed to be a spirit in season 2
Such a beautiful ending of a season just to be 180'd by only 3 words. I really love this show.
ALSO The Frozen Bonds is very important to watch before season 2!!!
My dumbass watched it after reading arc 6 🥲
Okay!
(Being vague for spoiler reasons, I don't know what you've seen so far and I'm unsure of when that topic is brought up in the show)
Bettlegeuse = 10 hands = 10 reasons to hate
Satella = Half of two thousand (what puck tell to bettlegeuse) = 1000 = 1000 reasont to love
I like the random invisible fly that comes now and then to attack luke and dissapears
There is logic behind the check points which is largely related to the whitch of envy.
That dreaded feeling of knowing what is going to come when Subaru mentioned Rem. I feel you man. I was there once feeling the same things.
Also, I can't remember very well, but I think the reason Subaru called Julius the greatest knight is because despite him being weaker than Reinhard, I believe he is the knight with the most accomplishments.
not just in rezero but one of the strongest in all anime and comics👀 broken AF
@@gwslopes im pretty sure that he cant do anything about 6th dimensional beings like mister M from superman.... anime and comics have a lot of op characters so reinhard isnt the strongest coz people can delete universes and if they destroy od lagna then reinhard becomes way way weaker
bro if you think the ending was brutal then imagine watching this when it came out every week to get to the end and then waiting for next season to release or just hoping they would release another season. that was brutal.
1:07:45 literally me every time I watch this part haahah
Punitive derives from the same meaning as "meant to punish". This is a force to subjugate criminals.
The cloak Subaru wore is a magic item that prohibits recognition Emilia often uses it to avoid discrimination.
and Petra recognized Emilia
Watch the movie before season 2. It is adding much to the season 2. It is Worth and it is a new content.
10:26
Yeah she did it because of Subarus influence
He truly is a Lolimancer
10:49
Puck means he is her caretaker
Thats why he calls her his daughter
Considering Puck is much older than Emilia
When Luke shouting I was laugh 🤣🤣🤣because I and you guys knew what coming
10:25 Yeah, but Ram mentioned that Betty's weakened outside the mansion
48:40 I don't think it's the wheel that killed Betelgeuse. You know, his entire body was in flames.
Lmao his rant at the end was a perfect representation of how I felt at the end too 😂
i like how when he found out there is aftercrefits emeadietly said ''f this anime this is bs'' i laught so hard lmao
'you're not the one' hits different when you know his backstory.
Hahahahahaha
Yeah, that's what you get for watching the director's cut.
His first thought to the bombs: why would the little kid betray the others and try to blow himself up along with Emilia? XD
This show is so well done, the view goes through as much torment as Subaru.
legit impressed Luke knew exactly what was gonna happen the second subaru talked about rem. 2 words ? and despair
I made a comment earlier in your reactions that "You can do everything right and still lose" and in regards to Rem this is what I was referring to.
The Frozen Bond is a backstory which includes more information about Emilia if I remember correctly
I find it funny that he has not come up by himself with the theory that Emilia becomes the witch and travels back in time, setting of the events of the story.
Usually everyone comes up with that one when they realize that the witch can reset/ rewind time.
You've been asking why the letter was blank? The brutal answer is cos Rem wrote it. She has been gone for a long time now
13:27
for such a long time i was convinced this along with the begin of episode 15 were a hint that there was something about petra we didnt know. i honestly think i was crazy now, though it is still a possibility it is clearly just petra being able to figure out its subaru in this moment
That's probably why he assumed Ram would knock him out for saying all of that.
the last scene was not originally in season 1's ending it got added to the directors cut becuase it was supposed to have more impact there
One thing to note though, Petra was one of the smartest in the village which was able to emphatize with everyone including subaru, betty, and emilia.
I just love we shout the same time "i knew it!!!" "Reeeem!" Hahaha
I was so surprised that you predicted that ending😆 Your reaction was perfect! I love these videos, I can’t wait for the OVA and season 2
It is designed so that you do not hesitate to go see the second season after such a blow to the stomach, I bet your brain is shaking with this xD
"Anyway whatever I don't even care... Stupid anyway" Best conclusion ever 😂
the "how many of you guys are in a relationship rn" called us out XD had me dying hahahaha well im single and happy college just sucks
This journey of yours with Re:Zero meant so much for me, since it's my very most loved Anime ever and my favourite n.1 on my top three of favourite Animes of all time. Your very genuine and emotionally reactions really moved me by sharing with you the happiness, and the sadness and tears, that this Anime kept gifting me every single time no matter how many times i rewatch it. I've been literally here memorizing your schedule with Re:Zero and waiting so impatientally every time for the day you would accompain me with a reaction about a new episode. I've been going through a lot lately, especially health issues that are making my life lately very hard and suffering to live, but your reactions kept me entertained and gave me good times even in those dark times of mine. So, thank you very much for your hard work and for sharing all of this with all of us. I can't wait to see you reacting to the second season of this amazing Anime, i'm here waiting for another beautiful journey with you.
Luke saying the witch might have a crush on subaru 😂.
Season 2 explains a bit how profound and terrifying her love for subaru is.
The reason that i love that i hold Re:Zero in my watchlist for 4 years was that i finished like 2 weeks before season 2 so i didnt suffer the wait with that cliffhanger😎
"What the hell happens now?!" Insanity. The second season is insanity.
fun fact
the ending scene didn't exist in the original Season 1
it was only added here in preparation and as a teaser for Season 2
The parralel between Emilia and Subaru's conversation at the end to episode 18 with Rem and Subaru is amazing!
I don't remember the author writing that about Subaru John Wick-ing the bowel hunter. Could it be that you are talking out of your ass?
@@oreotaku4017 emilia becomes the queen of a nation with zero citizens lmao. except for reinhard. and wrath if gets even better
@@sorakirisaki5330 I believe it’s just the capital that gets wiped out.
I haven’t read Wrath or Gluttony what if’s yet. So I’ll take your word for it.
When you got it right about Rem your expression was priceless I ended up laughing a bit too hard on this one xD
Well in the normal releases we got the "happy version ending" so I was pretty surprised too actually 😂
On a side note, for those interested in a different perspective of (re)watching the first season, it would be to only watch the moments along the "main storyline" as we do not see Subaru dying but we can feel what he looks like in the eyes of everyone else which is pretty interesting (Someone edited a compiled version but it can still be done with the correct order for the episodes).
Can't wait to see your next theories and reactions 😁
