Same here. 35 years later.... It even sounded ahead of it's time, to me, when I first listened to it. Everyone plays great on it but Geddy's bass playing on that album is stellar. The Wal bass was made for songs like the ones on Power Windows.
Wow. Hyper kinetic bass playing. Spot on recreation. I can say that because I watched Geddy actually performing on the Power Windows tour. From the 8th row, Geddy's side at Veterans Memorial arena in Long Island and I was fucking amazed at how fast his fingers were flying. His right hand alone was mesmerizing.
Geddy killed it on Power Windows. He was so inspired with Peter Collins' Wal bass (that he recorded the entire album with) and to me, it's like it propelled him to another level of musicianship. I just wish he had received his Wal bass on time for the tour. Thanks for watching !
Geddy has stated that he likes the Wal basses but they weren't 'rock basses'. He played the Steinberger, but only liked it because it had no headstock and so he wasn't banging into mic stands. However, he stated that the Steinberger had no bottom end.
Massive..... Really cool ... I remember when that album came out... Sounds really good. It's amazing that is the same people who did Caress of Steel,2112, Hemisphers... Etc
I also remember when that album was released. Everyone on top of their game. Geddy's bass playing reached another level and that Wal suited his style perfectly on Power Windows. Thanks for stopping by..
fantastic....you nailed it!!!!...the sound is perfect...the more forceful right hand plucking with those triplets Geddy throws in which are so prevalent in his style.....keep up the great work!!
@@hemibass Two of the three are. The Spirit of Radio, Freewill, and my 12 year old studio version of Freewill. I'm waiting for La Villa to get it next...
@@66TJP That sucks. I think it's got something to do with the new Moving Pictures album they are releasing. Stickhits posted something about it earlier
This was probably Rush's last really good album.... Good from begining to end.... After this they started to lose me a bit.... My favorite band to the core though... Excellent music...
Very pleased to see a Rush's synthesizer-era so well reproduced. Of course, it could not have missed a black Wal bass. Its sound is amazing. Any chances to record Between the Wheels or The Enemy Within? Thanks
Terrific playing and that JUICY TONE! I love it , but as others have pointed out, Geddy is playing this stuff while singing and triggering the keyboard parts... Amazing! That’s not to take away from your playing, you are great! Do you play any original stuff I could listen to?
I was thinking of getting a set of funkmasters just to see if I like it but I really have settled into the gauges the LD strings are. I definitely listen to your covers often since you mix the bass in so well. it reminds me of a live performance mix yet since you use the studio versions it's like the best elements of both. And I really like your wal bass sound. both of them are damn good. the Spector and Ric basses are great too. but you play excellent so any bass sounds great in your hands honestly. Take care.
rotosound LD 66. the strings ged uses now and probably what he should have thrown on his wal to get a little more power in the low notes. As a guy who now uses Rotos religiously after finding how damn good they sound; I'd say listen to this awesome cover and let that do the talking. And to the guy troy playing, thanks for rocking one of my all time fav songs of all time!!!
Actually... Geddy used the Rotosound "Funkmaster" roundwounds on his Wal. They are still Rotosound stainless steel roundwounds but the core is exposed over the bridge saddles and the gauge was on the light side which probably took out some of the low end. I have used them (when I used to own a Steinberger XL-2) but they are very light and a bit"rubbery" under my fingers. Thanks for watching!
In the chorus geddy is hitting each of the downbeat notes on the bass. You are skipping all the in betweens. Wasnt sure why. Not that it really matters but you can clearly hear him hitting them in the song.
Is that how much they are now?? Wow! I got mine new in 1993 for a quarter of that. Still a lot but $12K now ?? I could never afford that today. Glad I got mine then.
Geddy's bass playing on Power Windows is intense. It always feels like a constant bubbling of energy underneath the songs.
i feel like the synths were put in place of the simple kind of bass parts then in other parts of the songs geddy can go the fuck off and shred.
Geddy was completely on top of his game on Power Windows and that Wal in his hands was like a burst of ideas and energy that put him on another level.
Geddy has always said Power Windows was his favorite album.
The 'Power Windows' album still sounds fresh to me everytime I hear it even to this day.

Wow you sure have studied Geddy's technique and tone. That was perfect.
Wal Basses have that tone almost naturally. They have a very mid heavy sound.
Amazing quality instruments.
This was the secret weapon for Geddy's pop from the bass in this period 1985-1990.
THE TONE OF THE WAL IS SPOT ON!
holy....great playing. Imagine how Geddy pulls that off and sings as well???

I really like the sound of this bass. It sounds sweeter than the steinbergers. It's punchy without sounding sloppy and thin. 👍🇨🇦😎

@66TJP This is one of my favorite Rush jams to play just for fun AND TO WARM UP TO ~ and you nailed it to the wall brother ~ Well DONE!
Thank you. .
Simply AWESOME. Love your tone. Thanks for sharing with us.
And great timing too!
Awesome work. It enhances my appreciation of Geddy.
That might as well have been Geddy Lee. I'm dead serious
He ain't Geddy unless he can sing like a chipmunk at the same time.
Hahahahaha
fantastic....you nailed it!!!!...the sound is perfect...the more forceful right hand plucking with those triplets Geddy throws in which are so prevalent in his style.....keep up the great work!!
Awesome! My favourite of them all! I'd love that tone it really does sound fantastic!
Thank you !
I always here Presto coming with the synthesizer parts on this track. Awesome bass playing. Love the chords you threw in at chorus 🤘
Thanks for your compliments, William !
geddy is amazing on this album
that Wal sounds phenomenal! Thank you for doing a song like this.
I just absolutely love the sound of Wal basses! Thanks for the vid, excellent jamming!!
Way to go! That was spot on. Playing and tone! I always loved that period when Geddy used the Wal. That is very cool that you have one.
Perfection! PW is a fantastic album.

Awesome bass and great playing! Love the whole solo section for this song
Thanks..watch while you can I guess because three of my videos have been blocked in two days.
They aren't monetized so I don't know what is going on.

Great job on one of my favorites. If you have Entre Nous another one of my faves that would be outstanding.
This is freaking awesome
A wal mk1 is my dream bass.
Bravo!
Really good , wish the Taurus pedals sounded that good on the album.
Fantastic job!!

A good start.
That was awesome!
wow geddy love
cook to see a rush cover on a Wal! Nice playing! How do you like Wals? Are they good playing basses?
They have to be, can cost 3000-4000 pounds easily and they are rare to find!
Jesus man that's fuckin AMAZING
lovely! excellent!!!
Wow grand designs, you need eight fingers too play that ,wall basses look like a cross between an st and a fender bass very cool looking.
Amazing!!!:0
Great work...on the Bass. But can you play and sing like geddy?:)) great job. Love Rush
I do not have the right timbre in my voice to sound like Geddy Lee. Thanks for watching.
Very NIce work.
Terrific playing and that JUICY TONE! I love it , but as others have pointed out, Geddy is playing this stuff while singing and triggering the keyboard parts... Amazing! That’s not to take away from your playing, you are great! Do you play any original stuff I could listen to?
No original stuff. I'm not even in a band. I just like to do Rush covers for UA-cam... Thanks for watching...

Parabéns ! Saudações do Brasil .
amazing :) !!!
You totally nailed the late 80s Geddy tone in this, are you using funkmasters on this one.
Rotosound RS66LD .45-.105
Good job!
No such thing as "ghost notes' with the Wal -- we hear 'em all!
At least not with a tone setting like this ...
SIMPLESMENTE DEMAIS!
nice dude!
Fantastic cover! How much does that bass go for?
BAD. ASS.
this guy geddies
Awesome. How did you set the controls on the Wal bass and GK 700 RB amplifiers
Geddy Lee is so underrated (lol)
YOU SHRED.... ALSO NICE CHOICE IN GEAR EMULATION.
A lot of people forget hes top 3 bass players cuz he sings also and fuck off to the 3 thumbs down. Wtf ?
Are those Mesa Powerhouse cabs 2 by 12? Love your tone.
Yes, but they aren't micd'. Great cabs though. Awesome sound with the GK amps.
Nice Lad!
can't help noticing he has perfectly long fingers. a six-string bass....np
II don't really like six string bass necks... they are all like boat paddles to me.
In the chorus geddy is hitting each of the downbeat notes on the bass. You are skipping all the in betweens. Wasnt sure why. Not that it really matters but you can clearly hear him hitting them in the song.
No. Really. That shit is tight!
do a cover of animate.
I think that bass goes for $12,000
Is that how much they are now?? Wow!
I got mine new in 1993 for a quarter of that. Still a lot but $12K now ?? I could never afford that today. Glad I got mine then.
Holy jumpin fuggin shitballs, you're better than gedd.
HK TECH Umm, no. This guy did a great job reproducing what Geddy Lee composed and played. Great playing on the video. Dumb comment.
Great Wal bass. Rush was so terrible during this period.
outstanding
