Comments really this are always appreciated and help a lot keeping me inspired for more videos!
Zippy magic + Great cleave + Wide sweep + Legendary proportions is an insanely good combination when facing a bunch of enemies. You can get 30~60 attacks per round if there is enough enemies
It can really be like that! Certainly makes for a very fun gameplay experience.
Unfortunately I believe Zippy Magic per the upcoming patch 1.2 will only work on spells now, no longer on abilities.
you also need improved cleaving finish to pull that off.
Whenever I am looking for something WotR related, you have it! Incrível!
Glad to see my Pathfinder videos are still relevant! 😁
@@cRPGBro Indeed!
I'm so happy you keep uploading
Thank you!
Still a lot to talk about Pathfinder, and also some new RPGs coming soon.
Wide Sweep is a _very interesting weapon._ I'm gonna try making a solo Swarm build (no clones) based on using that scythe with the extended melee range from the Swarm Feast ability.
It is an amazing weapon indeed!
Best part is you can get it as early as the start of Chapter 2.
My first ever character was a rowdy rogue trickster with a scythe. The vital strikes when you'd crit with a scythe was nuts, and a cleaving finish with wide sweep was insane.
Scythes have such high critical damage that it does indeed become crazy high with a Vital Strike empowered critical hit!
Cleaving Finish is one of my favorite abilities in the game because free attacks is always good, I just wish the fix Improved Cleaving Finish eventually so we can truly watch the attacks fly!
@@cRPGBro Wide sweep + cleave/cleaving finish functions a bit like how zippy magic and blade whirlwind work. Each enemy hit by the cleave also splashes via wide sweep, so if you have 3 enemies on top of each other, you get an explosion of text.
Will you make build guides for the undead lich companions?
Also it would be great to have videos with alternative builds for all the companions, or even party composition builds!
Sure thing, the undead companion builds seems like a popular request, so I'll get around to it eventually 😃
Alternative build for companions is something I also want to try, I already have mostly pure class builds for them all, might be fun to go crazy with something different for a change!
I kinda wanna see a Divine Hound build with a Scythe. Maybe even go Mystic path for more crit damage. Or maybe a Divine Hound multi classed with Hellknight so your pet is sorta like a hell hound helping you cast judgement and smiting chaos and go down Angel path, though not sure if that would work.
An interesting combo for sure.
Scythes are certainly better left for Tricksters when it comes to Mythic, which already supports melee just fine.
Could you please include a shield bash video on the requests list? Shieldbearer is a class I’m having a hard time understanding and it seems like the magic blessing lvl 10 powers would synergize well with the Second Breath spell from Azata (or Azata-Devil) mythic path. I’m not sure if the rogue, ranger, or slayer builds have changed much since Kingmaker but Shieldbearer is new and mythic weapon finesse and advanced fighter training is a new option.
Sure thing, I have actually tried Valerie in Kingmaker as a Shield Basher, I might as well make a build for one in Wrath where we get way more shields focused on bashing with neat effects on hit!
@@cRPGBro I forgot about Sanctified Slayer (at least 17 lvls) as a possible STR based shield bash. I suppose a Sanctified Slayer of Serenrae would work. For some reason I always think of her clergy as somewhat wimpy.
Scythes and Picks (both light and heavy)
I wouldnt say a scythe is a great choice for a crit based character. Extreme crits will very often just be massive overkill, and, particularly when accounting for outflank, seize the moment and other on crit effects, threat range is much more valuable than crit multiplier - x4 or x5 (skald dependent) 55% of the time is generally going to be preferable for x7 - x8 35% of the time, particularly when the former threat range can be either on a reach weapon or dual wielding, unlike a scythe.
As a matter of raw numbers, the scythe is actually competitive. Assuming no skald and weapon mastery 35% x 5 = 175% additional base damage per swing on average, compared to 55% x 3 = 165% additional base damage per swing on average. But as mentioned, when you factor in triggering significantly fewer AoOs per swing, either the loss of 3 attacks per round or weapon reach (the latter of which is great for defence, cleaving finish, and losing fewer full attack actions due to movement), and the fact that so much more of this bonus damage will simply be overkill and thus go to waste, I think crit range is definitely king.
With weapon mastery and a skald, the calculation swings decisively in favour of kukris/fauchards: 35% x 7 = 245%, compared to 55% x 5 = 275%, so high threat range beats out high multiplier just as a matter of average damage, before considering on crit effects, superior weapon properties and overkill.
And for non trickster characters, its really not close. The trickster adds +5 to threat range irrespective of the multiplier or base threat range, which benefits high multiplier, low threat range weapons relatively more than high threat range, low multiplier weapons. But comparing non trickster multipliers and threat ranges, 10% x 4 = 40% vs 30% x 2 = 60%, or with weapon mastery and skald, 10% x 6 = 60% vs 30% x4 = 120% and again, this is before consideration of other factors in favour of higher threat range.
As an aside, the above number indicate how ridiculously OP trickster is for martial characters - with the above values, the trickster is doing at least 105% extra base damage on average per swing (high threat range, no skald and weapon mastery), rising to up to 185% extra base damage per swing when comparing the largest disparity (high multiplier, skald and weapon mastery), and all the additional AoOs these extra crits produce.
Granted, not all damage sources benefit from crit, like sneak attack, and others only benefit from range and not multiplier, like elemental barrage (its always x2 on crit regardless of multiplier I believe), and there is crit immunity (though this is very rare for enemies in this game), and other mythic paths can very significantly boost base damage - I think demonic rage at max level with areelu's cloak can add +15 damage, with a further +3-5 from stats depending if odd or even stat bonus and 1 or two handed, and + 4d6 sneak attack, and vampiric weapon + fear control can be a very hefty increase to damage per swing - and they dont come at the cost of 3 feats, but the trickster's massive, always active bonuses applied to the entire party are unmatched.
Legend might be pull ahead where AB is a significant issue, because +20 BAB, and 20 additional class levels of features and a significantly larger benefit from power attack can increase base damage and your chance to actually hit enormously. That said, a trickster who has taken crit feats and then takes legend will be the best martial legend you can get, and for those who stay trickster, trick fate makes AB moot for a short amount of time.
Thank you for the amazing depth analysis!
As far as weapons, I actually do prefer weapons with higher critical range by default - Falchions, Kukris, Rapiers.
I prefer to deal more consistent crits than bigger crits.
Scythes have always been a fan favorite though because of their cool look and they are the weapon with highest critical damage multiplier.
At least with Trickster we can really make them a lot more consistent while still retaining the uber critical damage!
@@cRPGBro No problem, appreciate the content.
I would love videos for the other weapon types. Axes, Exotics, Glaives, Hammers, etc
Thank you for your hard work. I have just a couple questions. First question: the Bound of possibility cloak demon version states that you get demon rage and aspect as if it were 3 mythic levels higher so does that cap at 10 or does that actually go to 13 at mythic rank 10? I'm trying to decide if it is worth it over the other items that use similar material. I don't know your order of weapons but can you do a video for Bardiche and Greataxe? I have also recently heard shops now update with new missing weapons in act 5. For example the Blood cleaver greatsword, I think that's what it's called, is now in the game with vicious oversized properties, and lvl 9 spell scribe kits are available well. I don't know if they were in the game already.
Hi there, and thank you for the comment and support!
I do believe the Demon Cloak will NOT stack to get bonuses higher than Demon 10. So overall I find it a very worthless piece of gear as Demon can already get Mythic 9+10 right at the START of Chapter 5.
I would certainly invest in the Shy Lily Helmet or the Ronneck's Sacrifice boosts with the Magical Beast Hides instead.
I'll add guides to Greataxes and Bardiches to my to-do video list.
As for new weapons in shops at Chapter 5, I don't know anything about it, but I'll be sure to talk about it if that's the case once Patch 1.2 comes out of beta!
@@cRPGBro Ok thanks. This was a big help. I don't know much about the new stuff either I kind of glanced past it, to be honest. It only caught my eye because greatswords are really rare and my favorite weapon type but Owlcat games have not been great for them. I'm not in the beta or anything I was just sharing that there may be new stuff in 1.2 outside the dlc for weapons in case you are interested. Have a nice day.
Hello :> Video is a bit old by now, yeah, but what do you think for a class that is aiming to go lich as a spooky melee scythe user? Doesn't have to be super min-maxed. Debating muta or 2h fighter, or maybe slayer? Some people insist Bloodrager is the best as a level 1 at least. What do you think? As a quick edit, I'm not looking to go super caster-heavy, but just the lich spells would be neat. Do I have to invest in arcane armour stuff?
Hi there :)
I honestly still think my Lich King Build here would be the best for that: ua-cam.com/video/UU8sD4vHQxQ/v-deo.html
While you start as a Wizard, you will get Scythe Proficiency as soon as level 1 just from Martial Weapons Proficiency.
Also, Eldritch Knight levels will highly increase your BAB.
Basically just replace Bardiche for Scythe, and then start with 19 STR, 12 DEX, 12 CON, 16 INT then either 8 WIS or CHA.
This way you can keep increasing STR on level ups, and will still be able to cast level 10 spells by just equipping headbands of + INT.
And even if you don't care about spellcasting, a merged Lich Wizard will get access to the highly powerful Lich buffs, including ones that greatly increase damage & survivability like Vampiric Blade, way earlier. They add a lot of extra damage AND also highly increase your AB!
@@cRPGBro Very cool! Thank you so much
Its only kind of only partially related but my favorite Kingmaker character was jaethal because every other party member would verbally abuse her every rest but she still treated them all like some kind of bug. Amiri was always saying stuff like, you look like a dead fish. Even nok nok got in on it. But her response was always something like, you aren't even a real person to me so shut up. I wasn't really into her class but she cracked me up.
Jaethal could indeed be amusing in Kingmaker if you like her cold but also very arrogant personality.
She's like those elves that think they're superior to everyone else, hah.
@@cRPGBro Oh she's awful. If she existed in real life you would call the cops within 5 minutes of meeting her. Like Camellia. And like Camellia she's fun. Camellia passes her persuasion check though mostly. Jaethal always fails them. Critically.
You may not have seen it but there is a show called Always Sunny in Philadelphia (absolutely worth a watch) and they made it to be the opposite of Friends. In Friends the friends are there for each other, no matter what. In always sunny the friends are never there for each other, no matter what. Jaethal is an always sunny character. Just a dreadful person who is impervious to reality
And she used scythes.
You can get two of the trickster improved critical feats with loremaster
I'm afraid the Trickster Critical Feats have been removed from the Loremaster list again.
@@cRPGBro gonna check, one week ago it was there
Light hammer is a fun weapon for somebody doing a blacksmith type character. Think you could do a guide on those?
Interesting!
I never really cared about Lighthammers before, but will see what I can come up with.
I know that this question is off topic, but in your video about Azat, the dc of the weird spell was more than 50, I did everything as in the guide, but the dc at level 19 is 43, can you tell how you raised it so much?
For that Azata DC caster, you need to focus on as many DC boosts from Gear + Spells as possible.
I also recommend you watch this guide on how to properly debuff enemy saves, as they go hand in hand (DC boost + Save debuffing):
ua-cam.com/video/4GYV0y9NreY/v-deo.html
Azata has some mythic spells to increase DC: Ode to Miraculous Magic, Songs of Steel & Believe in Yourself (for boosting your spellcasting stat like CHA for Azata Sorcerer).
And then we also have lots of powerful gear to increase DC such as Quarterstaff of the War Mage, Googles of Mind Control, Amulet of Clarity.
@@cRPGBro Thank you!
I would like to give another Class Suggestion for Scythes... Gendarme! Between all their extra damage multipliers from things like Spirited Charge, it can lead to some truly brutal crits!
Gendarme really is quite amazing!
I actually have a Demon Guide for it and also a Trickster one, I really love the class and mounted combat as a whole!
Scythe is the weapon of Deskari, one of 2 main enemies in the game, no? I guess they should be as wide spread as glaives, which is the weapon of Baphomet.
Yep, Scythe is the Favored Weapon of Deskari indeed.
I imagine this could be why we find so many of them although... only one Scythe comes from a Deskari Cultist.
Is there any build that uses crossbow as a main weapon? I would like to make a legend character using it but I never saw a build with it and I'm afraid that it will suck in comparison with bow or throwing axes.
The problem is that the crossbows are just weaker, given that they are simple weapon prof, not martial. Its the same as a shortsword build being weaker than scimitars. Thats said, you can make any weapon work via trickster crit.
I have not currently tried a Crossbow build yet, usually they're just weapons equipped by casters like Daeran or Nenio/Ember because they can't really equip anything else.
I'll do some brainstorming and see what I can come up with, though!
@@ShardtheWolf the problem with xbows is not that they are a simple weapon, but that you cannot add your strength bonus to their damage, like you can with a composite long/shortbow.
man, I love scythes in games, but sad thing is that in dnd 5e and bg3, there is no scythes :(
I'm really just wondering how you get your attack bonus and AC that high. I've been following your guides for a lot of things, but I can hardly get to maybe 50 attack bonus on my two handed fighter, and 41 AC.
Hi there, I explain it all here step by step for AB:
ua-cam.com/video/8-epQ9sPRtU/v-deo.html
And also not only for AC but multiple defensive layers stacked on top such as Concealment & Temporary HP:
ua-cam.com/video/3EfIhFEJaNk/v-deo.html
But the key is to stack buffs, especially Domain Powers + Skald Rage Powers!
@@cRPGBro Thank you very much. I have been playing without Seelah for the most part, which seems to be the one piece of the puzzle I was missing when it comes to AB. My party consists of a Two Handed Fighter, Sosiel, Daeran, Ember, a Skald and a Brown Fur to give Geniekind and other buffs to my main DPS (the MC). Which of these do you believe would be better to let go of?
@@Zephlo97 I'd say probably Daeran. He's got more or less the same spells as ember, but no witch curses. He's slightly better martially, but is still only mediocre at it. Sosiel has domains, so he's essential. The skald granting pounce is too good to pass up, and you'll want an arcane caster.
@@ShardtheWolf I play Turn based and I am having a hard time making good use of pounce since charge is just blocked from me on most occasions and simply doe snot work turn based at all if done by more than one character. So my Skald is instead using the Celestial Totems.
@@Zephlo97 I think Daeran might be a good choice since you already have Sosiel for Domain Powers & some Divine Support.
With the enhanced buffs from Brow Fur, you can certainly have even higher AB, and they can cover some buffs as well so you leave only the divine spells to Sosiel like Crusader's Edge & Death Ward.
1 question: Wide Sweep shares damage from vital strike?
Nope!
I gave it a test, and the Wide Sweep AoE damage was not getting the Vital Strike bonus applied to it.
@@cRPGBro don't know if it used to, but as of 1.2 it even mentions that things that apply as bonuses via special abilities and spells do not apply to the "weapon damage" that spreads to nearby enemies. You can probably figure out what DOES apply simply by looking at the combat logs. my guess would be the constant, untoggleable bonuses like strength and enhancement bonuses, and built in bonuses that are not toggleable like overhand and backswing.
I wish you make a build that use scythes. May be aeon or swarm?! 😇😇🥰
That's a nice idea for a new run, perhaps Inquisitor with Scythe like Jaethal! 😃
the reason you only saw one rift pit when you used the ability on Riftcarver is not a bug with the weapon, but rather 3 of the 4 enemies you were fighting are IMMUNE TO PITS! doh.
Oops, I must have missed that!
It can be a bit tricky sometimes because somew winged demons for example are still knocked down by let's say Grease or Trip.
Wide Sweep has a broken interaction with Cleave
Indeed! Wide Sweep has really crazy AoE damage overall for when you get it.
@@cRPGBro This combo made me feel like I found a broken combination, which I really enjoy in complex systems.
NWN 2 had a similar thing with the Blackguard (evil paladin) prestige class where you'd get a full AoE cleave after killing a single enemy, later it would even proc twice on kill, which turned that tank into a meatgrinder.
It's nice the game offers a truckload of scythes, but some of them are so easily missable...esp when you are playing an angel or a good azata, it never occurred to me not to save the child from his abusive mother...
Yep, I imagine most people will end up missing that shopkeeper since it requires you to forsake the poor tiefling child.
Also, if you let Jerribeth continue misleading Wintersun, you get access to a special Incubus merchant with one of the best pet items in the game!
@@cRPGBro what is the best pet item you are talking about?
Where's that Demonslayer build?
Sorry about the delay, but I promise it's coming together with the Demon Guide!
@@cRPGBro I'm EAGERLY anticipating it :D
How the hell do you have 47 str
Rest is pieces Wide Sweep
It was good while it lasted!
Its really weird how many good scythes there are compared to greatsword
Yep, one of the most popular weapons for RPGs was kinda left in the dust.
I do believe Owlcat is working on improving the loot table for weapons that aren't as common like they did in Kingmaker, though.
I love your guides but there is one thing that keeps confusing/annoying me every time.
Why do you always show the characters with all the possible buffs (including guarded hearth and similar things that are usually reserved for bosses)?
Why not show more realistic stats? The ones that are actually used in 98% of fights?
Hi there, the reason is to show the build's full potential and also what you are going to look when you are fighting the enemies that really matter, the bosses or midbosses.
In reality, you could reduce this +100 AB here for example by half, so +50 and it would still be enough to hit almost all enemies in the game even on Unfair.
The enemies that are most common are the trash mobs - and these don't tend to be troublesome to fight besides the early game on Unfair and sometimes Hard.
This is also missing some "permanent" bonuses that only show during combat: +4 from Outflank, +1-10 from Ever Ready, +9 from Skald Rage (which does have close to unlimited uses because of Lingering Performance), other situational buffs depending on party like Aru's Favored Enemy applied to your whole party.
For example, in my recently released Baphomet Battle here:
ua-cam.com/video/iF1ofZN-mG0/v-deo.html
Even though my character has been almost fully dispelled because of Baphomet's unique ability Baphomet's Word, I still get around +75 AB with just Guarded Hearth on, before Mark of Justice even hits and without ALL of the spell buffs or Visions of Madness.
Because there's usually just 1-2 really tough battles per map area (sometimes a bit more on the long dungeons) it's also easy to manage the use of these low use but very powerful buffs as even if you rest you won't have to do it so much that Corruption starts hitting your party, especially with the golden relics you fight to restore Corruption.
In my runs I only tend to rest once before entering a new area, or 1-2 times in the really long dungeons.
