I like the fact that they give each character 3 or 4 free alternative skins, whereas in other games you have to pay. Indeed, the roster is incredible and makes the game more varied.
While I do think that some characters that are crucial to the series should return (like heihachi or eddy), I don’t think they should do more than 3 DLC legacy characters, because it seems incredibly lazy and kind of cheap to bring back returning characters through dlc slots, and they should try to aim for some newcomers or guest characters

I was thinking after the reveal of Victor that John Wick would fit Tekken pretty well. Jury's out on whether the fans would like it or if they would pan it like they did Negan.

i know this has been said a ton but i would really love to see kazuma kiryu from yakuza as dlc. he would make a sick tekken character. you could incorporate his styles into stances and the heat actions in the yakuza games suit the heat mechanic in tekken 8 really well.

Yoshi still being the one character you do not underestimate even if he has low damage and short combo strings never gets old because his impromptu combo potential is so much fun.
@@Zekrombest his damage is incredible situational compared to 70%(at best) of the other characters. A decent example would be his spin kick to straight kick, the straight kick itself can often do more damage then a juggle into that and landing both kicks. As for wall Oki spin to win is kinda shamed on and even nerfed compared to soul caliber where a perfect low spin will juggle and mid/high will restand.
@@coryyoung7544you get a decent chunk from flash which is the fastest move in the game. Launches from NSS deal a shit ton because you can combo filler with flash. After carrying them to the wall (which is likely thanks to his good wall carry), he has a strong wall combo that sets up his wakeup mixup. He either does a low unblockable launcher that catches tech rolls or a cd1 which resets the situation.
@@Zekrombest so you land flashes consistently? When it's without a doubt the most finiky move. I agree with you on the wall carry because of the suicide run and launchers but flash being consistent is without a doubt not true and very situational.
We're probably not even going to see DLC guest characters for the 1st season or at least towards the end of season 1. Harada has explicitly stated on twitter they just want to focus on making sure the roster feels complete with the original cast before wanting to even focus on guest characters. He also said they haven't even thought about who'd make good guest characters right now because of this current goal.

It's sensible, but I personally don't believe him when it comes to the idea that they haven't thought about guest characters yet I'm sure they've touched base with whatever respective IP holder they need to connect with to make the crossover possible, since these sort of things take time...but he's probably holding it close to the chest and focusing on the starting cast which I can respect. I don't believe for a second though that guest characters haven't been considered yet.
Tifa would be an absolutely incredible guest character, if they are going to guest a character from an anime than my vote would be for Power-chan. She could be a lot of fun. Edit: I'd also gladly take John Wick.
I was shocked there was no Bob because it seems the devs like him, but the fact there was no Eddy or capoeira representative is mind blowing to me. For many who started Tekken with 3 on PlayStation, Eddy was one of the first characters most gravitated to because even if you were a button smasher you could do cool looking moves. Plus the fact that Eddy and Ling were the only playable characters on the demo disc which I know is another reason good bit of people have fond memories of Tekken 3 Eddy. Also I feel like Eddy really helped a lot more people to know what capoeira is and helped it to get into the pop culture of the time, I'm going to guess getting capoeira to work with the aggressive heat system isn't a easy task but still doesn't feel right to see a Tekken roster with no capoeira representative.
I do love how since Tekken 7 console release all I've ever seen about Eddy is he's lower then "do not play" tier and he's easily in the top 5 weakest characters in the game. The few Tekken streamers I watch have had to go on rants at least once about "stop saying Eddy is bad". But now he's not in Tekken 8 people keep coming out of the woodworks saying how OP he has always been, guess that's why you have seen so many Eddys in top 20 of any Tekken 7 tournament at any point of Tekken 7s 8 year life span.@@AHHHb0bSaggot
The lack of roster is what makes me hope that a Tekken Tag 3 will be in the works soon. I cant believe there is Eddy Gordo or Christie unless they will be DLC. That fighting style should be in the game. I think EG has been in the game since T3 so its odd they dont include him. Regardless, I am excited to play this and see how things with Jin and Kazuya ends and how Jun, Asuka and Reina will tie into it.
Nobody is using Eddy though.. that's the problem.. he's one of those with very low pick rate.. his pick rate is amongst the likes of Kuma.. if a legit fighter is being picked as much as the meme characters then something is wrong with the fighter.. Kuma is not supposed to be picked all the time, but Eddy should, so why isn't he being picked then.?? That's the problem with Eddy...
@famousfashions88 still is going to rub fans the wrong way there being some of the characters that have been on for so long, especially some of the ones brought back through DLC for Tekken 7 like Kunimitsu and Lei. Even if people dont play the characters in tournaments often, I dont think that determines their overall popularity to the fandom because not every fan is into the competitive fighting tournament scene. I just hope they decide to make a Tekken Tag 3 so they can really have a stacked roster without worrying about cannon story elements (i.e. heihachi and kasumi)

And as the OP said, that list of characters feels solid, afraid Anna might not make it unless they make her very different to Nina (they said they wanted to avoid dupes on this entry, that's why there's no Armor King and King has some of his moves)

Because they actually build their games from the ground up and make their characters fun and unique as possible. Whereas T8 is nothing but reused assets. Also, every other game has functional rollback, which is something you can't say for T8.

Idk why but Kiryu Kauma is def in the that pot of guest characters. Now that the orginal creator of yakuza is gone from the studio RGG is not gonna miss any chance to make a few bucks from this. Also the new yakuza game drops in January while the finals start on the 12th, so its not completely out of the question that he could be the first to make an appearance as a guest character. Overall I'm satisfied with the roster so far. Can't wait to play this!
Still smokes the MK1 roster after its year of DLC. Which is WILD really considering the depth of the netherrealm character list. Solid Snake would be a awesome guest option for Tekken.
As far as from another fighting game franchise, I think Nightmare or Mitsurugi could be fun guest characters. Taking all entertainment into account, Kiryu from Yakuza needs to be in Tekken at some point.
I love Kiryu, but it’s been said MANY TIMES already. As long as there are female fighters, Kiryu will not make an appearance in Tekken period. Majima can be an option, if possible.
Honestly? They should add Ichiban or Joon-gi Han. Both would be very cool additions, and would be cool in the wake of LAD8: Infinite Wealth being released next year.
Since Heihachi was a guest character in Soul Calibur 2, and Devil Jin's fighting style was accessible via customization in SC5, so would be nice if Tekken could return the favor for once. Mitsurugi would be my choice.
I agree with you Max, around 30% of a DLC season being guest characters is a pretty healthy amount. Some guest characters are pretty hype and I do love seeing them but I also like seeing more love shown to the actual characters and history of a given franchise too. As for potential options, I for one would love to see Clive from the newest Final Fantasy make an appearance seeing as Noctis was in the last one. Akira like you said would be cool too.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how they do Kuma and Panda. A lot of people complain they take up 2 slots, since they're usually just respond of each other. But there's obvious potential now for the bears to be different, since Kuma might pick up some heihachi moves, who knows what they might do. Looki g forward to the trailers
There are clips of Panda doing Ling type moves so it’s gonna be interesting. My guess they’ll share a lot of base moves and have certain moves from Ling/Heihachi. The bears will be dope!

The fact that Bob and Bruce are missing is criminal. Hopefully they cone in DLC. Evo is going to be crazy good in August. Tekken8, Sf6, and MK1 are really strong. Its crazy. Every game is doing well.
Kinda shocked that there's no lidia or fahk, I thought the whole reason of adding them in T7 was because they were important characters in the future. I feel like we could've missed one of the bears for someone else but overrall I think the rosters pretty neat.
This roster is pretty stacked (though still suprised Eddy didn't make it). But what I'm definitely curious is what the roster will be like by end of 8's life, cause 7 became so stacked, it almost became the smash bros ultimate of tekken. Whether they reach those numbers, who knows, especially if they end up focusing more on balancing then content.

Personally, I feel they won't rely on guest characters in this game as much as they did in T7. Thanks to T7, they know returning characters gets them sales. They'll probably do two guest characters at most.
As someone who started Tekken again during the ending of Tekken 7, I’m really excited that I got to be around for the reveal of this game and now I get start on the same road as everyone else
I thought Harada had said the point of making T8 was because T7 had too many similar characters, and that they were gonna give each remaining character more options. Maybe i misunderstood but i expected a Virtual Fighter 5 sized roster where each characters movelist is like double what it was.
Lidia not making it into the base roster feels criminal. She was a great new addition to the series and we had so little time with her. It especially sucks because she became an instant favorite of mine, and I think her style with the new heat mechanics could be dope as hell.
I didn’t play Tekken since TTT1. I bought Tekken 7 when Lidia was released because her fighting style looked so cool. I mained her and was hoping she would become somehow relevant to the story in T8. I’m terribly disappointed
Most of my t7 characters didn't make it in but I still think this roster is great. My wish list for guest characters is generic but I really want Snake and Tifa.
@@versatilelord8893 I mean that was the Developers choice lol, they made Noctis cheap for noobs and it worked. They are Tekken fans now. Tifa is way more popular then Noctis, but she probably will be fairly easy to use.
I feel like the way they did the characters is one of each playstyle kinda thing. You got your heavy your stance counter mix up. Like the way I see it we didn’t get sumo dude bob or gigas cause of kuma and Jack 8. No eddy or Chloe cause of Azucena, and no Ann or josie cause of Nina, and no kazumi or catalina cause of Reina. Basically they wanted the roster to feel as diverse as possible with play styles while still trying to add in as many main stay characters. At least that’s the impression I got.
One thing, is if Tag3 ever gets made (which is iffy since it’s what caused tekken to nearly die due to sales, quality put aside), it has a chance to be extremely fun due to the lower level of accessibility in 8. The Modern Control would actually be perfect for tag because the ‘issue’ with that game is every character is very complex with lots to learn, yet you not only have every (nearly) character, but minimum learn 2 at the same time. Tag2 (and hopefully future tags) are basically impossible to create a large competitive scene because there’s too much to learn. But, it could be the perfect mayham game for teller. Almost like a party game.

It has to differentiate itself from T7. So far they share 27 characters. Of the 32 there are only 5 that were not in the previous game which are two returning (Raven and Jun) and three brand new (Azucena, Victor, and Reina). I would guarantee one Capo (Eddy/Christie/Tiger) and one Muay Thai (Bruce/Fahkumran/Josie) return as DLC but there’s A LOT of characters that were DLC last time that are missing from this base roster and it would be insane if we get them as DLC again (Julia, Armor King, Anna, Lei, Marduk, Lidia, Fahkumran). There’s a lot of characters I would love to see return that missed the last game (Angel, Roger/Alex, Bruce, Christie, Jinpachi, Ogre, Baek, etc) and I’m sure we’ll get a handful of guest characters.
I realllllyyy hope Yujiro or Baki Hanma are guests. They would be perfect. Especially with how they translate all the crazy stuff in Baki into moves. Some other picks could be Itadori, Kiryu, Ichiban, etc. There really are so many good options. I can’t wait to see what they reveal.
Kiryu doesn't hurt women. It has been stated forever and people always bring this up whenever a new Tekken comes. Also an anime character that doesn't have a (somewhat) realistic drawing style like dinosaur Gon would look awful in Tekken.

Im not sure how they'll implement guest characters as I personally dont think they'll bring back meter type characters like Akuma, Geese, Eliza. Although I never really minded them like some players. Like most, I think a Baki character would fit really well. Kiryu or Majima would be great although the Yaluza devs seem kinda weird about it. Roster-wise, lots of characters im surprised didnt get in, shame Josie didn't come back as she was a surprise fav of mine (slim chances she comes back I think). Wasn't sure whether to go back to Asuka or Bryan till Reina got announced and I think she looks really fun so gonna give her a go.

Eddy is season 1 so it's only really Julia, Lei and Anna (who were all T7 dlc) missing from T3 unless you really want Ogre and Mokujin I guess? I could go either way with guest characters. I'd rather more Original characters but guests just make sense with bringing in new players and driving up hype. Works for MK.
Bro I really hope Bandai and the Tekken Team consider putting Baki and Yujiro Hanma has guest characters, the fan mod showcases I've seen look stellar...they would be perfect as Guest characters introducing another Father and Son feud to the mix would be interesting even if it's not really focused on much, we still know the story as fans of the manga and anime.😁😎💯
I mentioned this before that Tekken 7 had the largest roster of new characters in any of the Tekken games (that includes the dlc) and only the likes of 3 of them made a return in Tekken 8 being Leroy,Claudio & Shaheen. It still boggles me that not a huge majority of them had make it in Tekken 8 especially the ladies like Lidia,Katerina & Lucky Chloe, but also old school favorites like Bob,Lei & Eddy which the last one is the most shocking for me cause he has been in almost every Tekken game since Tekken 3. I'll be shock if he comes out as dlc (if not his counterparts Chirstie/Tiger as well). But also assuming when we get seasonal dlc characters in the future, the roster will most likely be adequately added up to say 50 or so characters by then, of course assuming guest characters but I'm hoping that's not the case,PLEASE NO OUTSIDE GUEST CHARACTERS PLEASE!!!!). here's hoping my mains Lucky Chloe & Eddy makes it 🤞

It's easy to see why T7 had so many characters and T8 didn't. T7 was out exclusively in the arcades of Japan getting iterated on for two whole years at least. That means they technically had T7 as early access in Japan where they could add characters and adjust balance without a worldwide audience yelling at them. By the time the game was released worldwide where most people could actually play it, the game had doubled in characters.
As long as he is 100 martial arts attacks and strings to play with, and not playing like an actual 2d character, I would be okay with having him on the roster, Akuma and Eliza felt very inconsistent in terms of movesets.
... i'm team Kuni as well. She ended up being my main after a while. She just felt very good to play and I found that in some of my toughest fights, Kuni was the one to see me through them. ... I do not care if they make her DLC again. The prices are never too steep for me. I just want her back in the game.
Now that I think about it, Lydia not being in is pretty surprising.. she received a lot of positive reactions because she's not as broken as Leroy and Fahkumram..
The roster is quite incredible all things considered. Still a shock to me that there is no Eddy Goro style character but w/e I guess. I'm also kinda blown away they decided to have the final two reveals be new characters and they were both awesome. I was thinking about picking up Lili for the 1st time but once we got Reina and all her crazy shit she can do...ya no contest.
I'm holding out for DLC on Eddy's end. He's pretty popular, is long-recurring and there's no other character that can do his playstyle, so I have a feeling we'll be seeing him again before long. Till then, I think I'll be maining Reina. Off-brand japanese Capoeira is fine, too.
I wish they could get Kiryu from Yakuza, Ryu Hayabusa from ninja gaiden but with a new moveset not the moveset from DOA, Tifa would be cool too , Orchid from KI but I really doubt Microsoft allows it.
I know the possibility is near to impossible, but given Tekken relationship with Square Enix, it would be cool to see at least one of the original Ehrgeiz characters back, they would fit nicely.
T8 is going to be massive because i believe it does a very good job building a solid bridge that gives new and old players a fun and enjoyable experience, there's plenty of simple stuff that lets new players get a taste of the cool shit characters can do then have enough depth that old players can discover new routes especially with heat and the added affects it has, for example jin with heat gains access to traditional hellsweep off of omen stance. I firmly believe we'll get some wacky guest characters whether its like luke from SF6, Giovanna from strive or whoever they'll be good additions, i also believe a tekken character will appear in SF6 due to the akuma appearance so i reckon we'll see that, but T8 is gonna be a blast once it releases.
Ignore the fact that heat is universally hated to the point where namco had to make it much weaker just so they would stop complaining. And even then they just tolerate heat. No one likes it. And don’t even get started on the movement. T8 is gonna be trash but tekken players deserve it for buying every piece of slop namco puts out

I'm so thankful for this large roster and to have a few of my favorites back. But to be honest this roster didn't get interesting until the last two. I think more fresh blood is needed. Also, Kuma essentially being Hei is fun. It actually makes me want to try him. Tekken is still the GOAT and 8 looks to continue that trend.

Ya know this is an unpopular opinion but because of how fun Josie was for me in t7 I was hoping they'd bring her back in 8 as a member of tekken force (she wanted to join in her lore) as for her gimic to make her unique give her collapsible batons she can take out. Also giving her character development by making her a more confident serious character. Sucks she doesn't have a good chance of coming back. They didn't do her Phillipine martial background justice because she didn't use sticks😔😔😔
I'm surprised Miguel isn't back personally, though I agree with Josie. Josie ended up being a surprise favourite for me with how fun she plays (maybe not exactly the strongest but I put the most time into her). I'd like a more mature Josie if she comes back down the line, I'd be surprised if most T7 characters don't return although I can't see the meter style ones returning. Wasn't sure who to pick up in T8, I originally messed around with Bryan and Asuka and wasn't too sure on the others in the roster without going out my comfort zone. Granted after just seeing Reina's trailer she looks super fun so may give her a try on launch.

Like Max said. Akira from VF, Kiryu from Yakuza would be the dream, and the number 1 pick Tifa. Imagine how amazing Tifa would be. This would be her game for sure to pop off.
Kiryu isn't gonna be in the game. RGG specifically the creator of the series has been pretty vocal about him never hitting a woman so unless there's a tekken without them it's never gonna happen
The newcomers in 8 feel consistent. 7 had peaks and valleys. Shaheen looked great, Lucky Chloe was VERY weird and Claudio looked like he stepped out of Final Fantasy
I'm going to miss Katarina, Eliza, Josie, Kasumi and Gigas too, Ogre as well since I found a new sort of respect for him, you too Fakumram, and even characters I didn't ever really use like Miguel, Lidia, Master Raven, Bob and Kunimitsu, but I digress, I love what I do see!
Considering the DLC characters in T7 consists of SOME of the OG characters like Anna, Julia and Ganryu, I wouldn't be surprised if the characters left out will end up being paid content 😅
This is the first Tekken game since T2 to not have a capo character which is fucking stunning. I know so many hardcore Eddy fans who’ll be disappointed as fuck especially considering his odds of being DLC specific are 50/50

They should really complete all the major characters from Tekken 7 that are canonically and obviously alive in the story before they add guest characters.
Given that they are adding a heat mechanic to the game and it's coming out on the same day as Yakuza 8, it would be really cool if Kiryu Kazuma is one of the first guest characters.
As much as I love Kiryu, he's a guy in a suit who punches and kicks people. Anyone who isn't already a Yakuza fan would probably be pretty unhappy with his inclusion. Plus there's the whole "Kiryu will never hit a woman" thing that they may or may not still have to worry about... Between his design, personality, and the potential for a flashy moveset, Majima would make for a MUCH better Tekken character.
@@Therealtrilldill Most of them are just his default style with a new name depending on the game, Rush is just boxing (Punching), Beast is just hitting people with bikes (Which Tekken wouldn't have) plus armor, and then there's Agent. His potential move set isn't the problem. The problem is that a game like Tekken wouldn't be able to convey what makes Kiryu a good character. All we would get is his intro, fighting style, and win quote, and those aren't enough to explain to someone with no knowledge of the franchise why he deserves to be there. Unless they go all in on making Agent his main fighting style (Which would be pretty disappointing), people who know nothing about the character would just see a man in a suit punching and kicking people, because that's all Tekken would be able to show us. Plus, we still don't know how protective they are of his image in terms of things like fighting women.
@@Sharkofspace he got way more moves than shaheen. And beast is a grappler so he’d have an assortment of grabs. Negan was just a guy with a bat but he was still a gangster ass tekken character. Kiryus fighting styles could definitely be implemented in tekken.
The roster of 32 + the 36 that you mentioned we are talking about a roster of 68 characters. It wouldn't be that hard knowing that 7 had 51 characters in the final roster and 20 in the starting roster. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still has the biggest roster with 89 playable fighters.
Ideally, I wish all the characters be in the roster, but that isn't realistic unfortunately. I still hope Kuni comes back again though; she's received so much love with her overhauling into TTT2 and eventually T7 to just put her back into the vault. As far as guest characters, I too think Tifa would flourish in Tekken, especially because FFVIIR is going to be heating up more and more in the coming years.
I struggle to undestand people who can't find a character they like on this roster, it's not the perfect roster, but it has so many good choices that it should be able to appeal to pretty much everyone, of course I can point out the obvious with characters like Heihachi, Eddy, Lei, Marduk and Julia not being there and how they could've maybe got rid of the less inspired, bland characters like a Shaheen or Leroy or Leo for three of the aforementioned, but all-in-all, it's a very solid start (and there's no way around it, we're going to get DLC characters to balloon up the roster in the future).
@@alexa.4473 I'm still convinced Heihachi will be DLC, there's no way they aren't gonna capitalize on the oppurtunity to sell him, he'd be the best selling DLC they've ever had, even if you wanna justify his absence with story reasons, Heihachi is important enough to the plot and can make it as 1st wave DLC and part of the T8 story, plus it's not like there weren't dead characters on the roster before.
Honestly we're missing Michelle Chang since Tekken 3 (story and lore wise) ik she appeared in Tekken Tag 2 but it's not Canon plus Tag 2 is also like 10 year old now.😢
I understand Heihachi being dead but dang I think it sucks that he is not going to be in the game. He is the face to Tekken for me. Also its rough not having Lei or Eddy but I hate that we don't get a Chang in the game. I was really hoping Michelle Chang would be in the initial roster.
Asuka is a knowledge check character, I wouldn’t recommend her to beginners. I think Alicia is pretty hard to master, but feels easy to pick up and do well with.
I hope we get an open beta soon. I wanna play other characters i missed like Leroy and Bryan. Played a kot of Lars but i'd like to play Raven, Steve, Leo, Shaheen, Viktor, and Reina. Hope Eddy, Miguel, and Bruce come back. Old experienced Bruce Irving would be amazing. Was kinda hoping for Ogre, Lidia, and Eliza.
Kuma and Panda should have been the same slot and selectable with different buttons like it used to be. I would have liked to have seen Panda's spot go to a new character.
I had a theory and hear me out sounds ridiculous, but sf6 has akuma coming next spring, tekken announces akuma that releases in spring with a Tekken x Street Fighter game they promised years ago!
In the evo showcase they did say weekly trailers from now on continue up until the release. And next is likely gonna be Yoshi if we see this character screen.
Might not happen but Katarina deserves a spot as a DLC. As a newcomer in Tekken 7 she might take the Zafina's path (Tekken 6 base -> T7 DLC) and make it. I hope she does !
If Gon is a licensing nightmare, they should add in Agumon: both are tiny orange dinosaurs, but Agumon’s owned by the same company as Tekken, so he’d probably be much easier to add.

I like the fact that they give each character 3 or 4 free alternative skins, whereas in other games you have to pay.

While I do think that some characters that are crucial to the series should return (like heihachi or eddy), I don’t think they should do more than 3 DLC legacy characters, because it seems incredibly lazy and kind of cheap to bring back returning characters through dlc slots, and they should try to aim for some newcomers or guest characters

Not only having 32 but each character has multiple outfit alternates and a long movelist AND likely a cinematic "what if" ending for each.
The cinematics will most likely be in-engine, so it won't be too difficult to produce than CG cut-scenes.

i know this has been said a ton but i would really love to see kazuma kiryu from yakuza as dlc. he would make a sick tekken character. you could incorporate his styles into stances and the heat actions in the yakuza games suit the heat mechanic in tekken 8 really well.

Yoshi still being the one character you do not underestimate even if he has low damage and short combo strings never gets old because his impromptu combo potential is so much fun.
Yoshi having low damage is such a myth. His wall oki is broken so even if he doesn't get guaranteed damage on paper, in practice he always does.

A decent example would be his spin kick to straight kick, the straight kick itself can often do more damage then a juggle into that and landing both kicks.
As for wall Oki spin to win is kinda shamed on and even nerfed compared to soul caliber where a perfect low spin will juggle and mid/high will restand.
@@coryyoung7544you get a decent chunk from flash which is the fastest move in the game. Launches from NSS deal a shit ton because you can combo filler with flash. After carrying them to the wall (which is likely thanks to his good wall carry), he has a strong wall combo that sets up his wakeup mixup. He either does a low unblockable launcher that catches tech rolls or a cd1 which resets the situation.

We're probably not even going to see DLC guest characters for the 1st season or at least towards the end of season 1. Harada has explicitly stated on twitter they just want to focus on making sure the roster feels complete with the original cast before wanting to even focus on guest characters. He also said they haven't even thought about who'd make good guest characters right now because of this current goal.

It's sensible, but I personally don't believe him when it comes to the idea that they haven't thought about guest characters yet I'm sure they've touched base with whatever respective IP holder they need to connect with to make the crossover possible, since these sort of things take time...but he's probably holding it close to the chest and focusing on the starting cast which I can respect.

Tifa would be an absolutely incredible guest character, if they are going to guest a character from an anime than my vote would be for Power-chan. She could be a lot of fun. Edit: I'd also gladly take John Wick.
If Noctis made it to 7, then it would only make sense for Tifa to eventually appear. It would be much easier for Namco to craft a moveset for her too.

I was shocked there was no Bob because it seems the devs like him, but the fact there was no Eddy or capoeira representative is mind blowing to me. For many who started Tekken with 3 on PlayStation, Eddy was one of the first characters most gravitated to because even if you were a button smasher you could do cool looking moves. Plus the fact that Eddy and Ling were the only playable characters on the demo disc which I know is another reason good bit of people have fond memories of Tekken 3 Eddy. Also I feel like Eddy really helped a lot more people to know what capoeira is and helped it to get into the pop culture of the time, I'm going to guess getting capoeira to work with the aggressive heat system isn't a easy task but still doesn't feel right to see a Tekken roster with no capoeira representative.

The lack of roster is what makes me hope that a Tekken Tag 3 will be in the works soon. I cant believe there is Eddy Gordo or Christie unless they will be DLC. That fighting style should be in the game. I think EG has been in the game since T3 so its odd they dont include him. Regardless, I am excited to play this and see how things with Jin and Kazuya ends and how Jun, Asuka and Reina will tie into it.
Nobody is using Eddy though.. that's the problem.. he's one of those with very low pick rate.. his pick rate is amongst the likes of Kuma.. if a legit fighter is being picked as much as the meme characters then something is wrong with the fighter.. Kuma is not supposed to be picked all the time, but Eddy should, so why isn't he being picked then.?? That's the problem with Eddy...

@famousfashions88 still is going to rub fans the wrong way there being some of the characters that have been on for so long, especially some of the ones brought back through DLC for Tekken 7 like Kunimitsu and Lei. Even if people dont play the characters in tournaments often, I dont think that determines their overall popularity to the fandom because not every fan is into the competitive fighting tournament scene. I just hope they decide to make a Tekken Tag 3 so they can really have a stacked roster without worrying about cannon story elements (i.e. heihachi and kasumi)

Idk why but Kiryu Kauma is def in the that pot of guest characters. Now that the orginal creator of yakuza is gone from the studio RGG is not gonna miss any chance to make a few bucks from this. Also the new yakuza game drops in January while the finals start on the 12th, so its not completely out of the question that he could be the first to make an appearance as a guest character. Overall I'm satisfied with the roster so far. Can't wait to play this!
Still smokes the MK1 roster after its year of DLC. Which is WILD really considering the depth of the netherrealm character list. Solid Snake would be a awesome guest option for Tekken.
As far as from another fighting game franchise, I think Nightmare or Mitsurugi could be fun guest characters. Taking all entertainment into account, Kiryu from Yakuza needs to be in Tekken at some point.

Since Heihachi was a guest character in Soul Calibur 2, and Devil Jin's fighting style was accessible via customization in SC5, so would be nice if Tekken could return the favor for once. Mitsurugi would be my choice.

I agree with you Max, around 30% of a DLC season being guest characters is a pretty healthy amount. Some guest characters are pretty hype and I do love seeing them but I also like seeing more love shown to the actual characters and history of a given franchise too.
As for potential options, I for one would love to see Clive from the newest Final Fantasy make an appearance seeing as Noctis was in the last one. Akira like you said would be cool too.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how they do Kuma and Panda. A lot of people complain they take up 2 slots, since they're usually just respond of each other. But there's obvious potential now for the bears to be different, since Kuma might pick up some heihachi moves, who knows what they might do. Looki g forward to the trailers
There are clips of Panda doing Ling type moves so it’s gonna be interesting. My guess they’ll share a lot of base moves and have certain moves from Ling/Heihachi. The bears will be dope!

Kinda shocked that there's no lidia or fahk, I thought the whole reason of adding them in T7 was because they were important characters in the future. I feel like we could've missed one of the bears for someone else but overrall I think the rosters pretty neat.
This roster is pretty stacked (though still suprised Eddy didn't make it). But what I'm definitely curious is what the roster will be like by end of 8's life, cause 7 became so stacked, it almost became the smash bros ultimate of tekken. Whether they reach those numbers, who knows, especially if they end up focusing more on balancing then content.

I thought Harada had said the point of making T8 was because T7 had too many similar characters, and that they were gonna give each remaining character more options. Maybe i misunderstood but i expected a Virtual Fighter 5 sized roster where each characters movelist is like double what it was.

Lidia not making it into the base roster feels criminal. She was a great new addition to the series and we had so little time with her. It especially sucks because she became an instant favorite of mine, and I think her style with the new heat mechanics could be dope as hell.

I feel like the way they did the characters is one of each playstyle kinda thing. You got your heavy your stance counter mix up. Like the way I see it we didn’t get sumo dude bob or gigas cause of kuma and Jack 8. No eddy or Chloe cause of Azucena, and no Ann or josie cause of Nina, and no kazumi or catalina cause of Reina. Basically they wanted the roster to feel as diverse as possible with play styles while still trying to add in as many main stay characters. At least that’s the impression I got.

One thing, is if Tag3 ever gets made (which is iffy since it’s what caused tekken to nearly die due to sales, quality put aside), it has a chance to be extremely fun due to the lower level of accessibility in 8.
The Modern Control would actually be perfect for tag because the ‘issue’ with that game is every character is very complex with lots to learn, yet you not only have every (nearly) character, but minimum learn 2 at the same time.
Tag2 (and hopefully future tags) are basically impossible to create a large competitive scene because there’s too much to learn. But, it could be the perfect mayham game for teller. Almost like a party game.

It has to differentiate itself from T7. So far they share 27 characters. Of the 32 there are only 5 that were not in the previous game which are two returning (Raven and Jun) and three brand new (Azucena, Victor, and Reina). I would guarantee one Capo (Eddy/Christie/Tiger) and one Muay Thai (Bruce/Fahkumran/Josie) return as DLC but there’s A LOT of characters that were DLC last time that are missing from this base roster and it would be insane if we get them as DLC again (Julia, Armor King, Anna, Lei, Marduk, Lidia, Fahkumran). There’s a lot of characters I would love to see return that missed the last game (Angel, Roger/Alex, Bruce, Christie, Jinpachi, Ogre, Baek, etc) and I’m sure we’ll get a handful of guest characters.

Roster-wise, lots of characters im surprised didnt get in, shame Josie didn't come back as she was a surprise fav of mine (slim chances she comes back I think). Wasn't sure whether to go back to Asuka or Bryan till Reina got announced and I think she looks really fun so gonna give her a go.

@HCforLife1 Law is already in T8, unless you mean Forrest who's barely any different imo, I wouldn't really care. Eddy is season 1 so it's only really Julia, Lei and Anna (who were all T7 dlc) missing from T3 unless you really want Ogre and Mokujin I guess?
I could go either way with guest characters. I'd rather more Original characters but guests just make sense with bringing in new players and driving up hype. Works for MK.

I mentioned this before that Tekken 7 had the largest roster of new characters in any of the Tekken games (that includes the dlc) and only the likes of 3 of them made a return in Tekken 8 being Leroy,Claudio & Shaheen.
It still boggles me that not a huge majority of them had make it in Tekken 8 especially the ladies like Lidia,Katerina & Lucky Chloe, but also old school favorites like Bob,Lei & Eddy which the last one is the most shocking for me cause he has been in almost every Tekken game since Tekken 3.
I'll be shock if he comes out as dlc (if not his counterparts Chirstie/Tiger as well). But also assuming when we get seasonal dlc characters in the future, the roster will most likely be adequately added up to say 50 or so characters by then, of course assuming guest characters but I'm hoping that's not the case,PLEASE NO OUTSIDE GUEST CHARACTERS PLEASE!!!!). here's hoping my mains Lucky Chloe & Eddy makes it 🤞

It's easy to see why T7 had so many characters and T8 didn't. T7 was out exclusively in the arcades of Japan getting iterated on for two whole years at least. That means they technically had T7 as early access in Japan where they could add characters and adjust balance without a worldwide audience yelling at them. By the time the game was released worldwide where most people could actually play it, the game had doubled in characters.
Eddie has not been in 4 as Christie Montiero was introduced as a character new to the series.
Iori Yagami from KoF would be great as a DLC

As long as he is 100 martial arts attacks and strings to play with, and not playing like an actual 2d character, I would be okay with having him on the roster, Akuma and Eliza felt very inconsistent in terms of movesets.
Kunimitsu not making the cut after how awesome she was in 7 is jaw dropping. She seemed primed to becoming a concrete series staple.
I was so disappointed by that. I really liked what they did with her in 7
... i'm team Kuni as well. She ended up being my main after a while. She just felt very good to play and I found that in some of my toughest fights, Kuni was the one to see me through them.
... I do not care if they make her DLC again. The prices are never too steep for me. I just want her back in the game.

The roster is quite incredible all things considered. Still a shock to me that there is no Eddy Goro style character but w/e I guess. I'm also kinda blown away they decided to have the final two reveals be new characters and they were both awesome. I was thinking about picking up Lili for the 1st time but once we got Reina and all her crazy shit she can do...ya no contest.
I'm holding out for DLC on Eddy's end. He's pretty popular, is long-recurring and there's no other character that can do his playstyle, so I have a feeling we'll be seeing him again before long.
Till then, I think I'll be maining Reina. Off-brand japanese Capoeira is fine, too.
I wish they could get Kiryu from Yakuza, Ryu Hayabusa from ninja gaiden but with a new moveset not the moveset from DOA, Tifa would be cool too , Orchid from KI but I really doubt Microsoft allows it.
Won't happen. Nagoshi already stated that he don't want Kiryu to hit women. I'd rather Majima though, he have more expressions.

Kiryu has been confirmed not to happen since T7 (since they don't want him beating women), but I can see Majima as essentially the Negan of T8

T8 is going to be massive because i believe it does a very good job building a solid bridge that gives new and old players a fun and enjoyable experience, there's plenty of simple stuff that lets new players get a taste of the cool shit characters can do then have enough depth that old players can discover new routes especially with heat and the added affects it has, for example jin with heat gains access to traditional hellsweep off of omen stance. I firmly believe we'll get some wacky guest characters whether its like luke from SF6, Giovanna from strive or whoever they'll be good additions, i also believe a tekken character will appear in SF6 due to the akuma appearance so i reckon we'll see that, but T8 is gonna be a blast once it releases.
Ignore the fact that heat is universally hated to the point where namco had to make it much weaker just so they would stop complaining. And even then they just tolerate heat. No one likes it. And don’t even get started on the movement. T8 is gonna be trash but tekken players deserve it for buying every piece of slop namco puts out

I'm so thankful for this large roster and to have a few of my favorites back. But to be honest this roster didn't get interesting until the last two. I think more fresh blood is needed. Also, Kuma essentially being Hei is fun. It actually makes me want to try him. Tekken is still the GOAT and 8 looks to continue that trend.

Ya know this is an unpopular opinion but because of how fun Josie was for me in t7 I was hoping they'd bring her back in 8 as a member of tekken force (she wanted to join in her lore) as for her gimic to make her unique give her collapsible batons she can take out. Also giving her character development by making her a more confident serious character. Sucks she doesn't have a good chance of coming back. They didn't do her Phillipine martial background justice because she didn't use sticks😔😔😔
I'm surprised Miguel isn't back personally, though I agree with Josie. Josie ended up being a surprise favourite for me with how fun she plays (maybe not exactly the strongest but I put the most time into her).
I'd like a more mature Josie if she comes back down the line, I'd be surprised if most T7 characters don't return although I can't see the meter style ones returning.
Wasn't sure who to pick up in T8, I originally messed around with Bryan and Asuka and wasn't too sure on the others in the roster without going out my comfort zone. Granted after just seeing Reina's trailer she looks super fun so may give her a try on launch.

Like Max said. Akira from VF, Kiryu from Yakuza would be the dream, and the number 1 pick Tifa. Imagine how amazing Tifa would be. This would be her game for sure to pop off.
Kiryu isn't gonna be in the game. RGG specifically the creator of the series has been pretty vocal about him never hitting a woman so unless there's a tekken without them it's never gonna happen
impossible to predict their guest characters, they've been very unpredictable with them in T7 which is of course to their credit and benefit.
The newcomers in 8 feel consistent. 7 had peaks and valleys. Shaheen looked great, Lucky Chloe was VERY weird and Claudio looked like he stepped out of Final Fantasy
I'm going to miss Katarina, Eliza, Josie, Kasumi and Gigas too, Ogre as well since I found a new sort of respect for him, you too Fakumram, and even characters I didn't ever really use like Miguel, Lidia, Master Raven, Bob and Kunimitsu, but I digress, I love what I do see!

Considering the DLC characters in T7 consists of SOME of the OG characters like Anna, Julia and Ganryu, I wouldn't be surprised if the characters left out will end up being paid content 😅

This is the first Tekken game since T2 to not have a capo character which is fucking stunning. I know so many hardcore Eddy fans who’ll be disappointed as fuck especially considering his odds of being DLC specific are 50/50
I'm don't even play Eddy but that was one of the most shocking decisions. What's worse is how everyone is like, "wow, what a great roster!!"

They should really complete all the major characters from Tekken 7 that are canonically and obviously alive in the story before they add guest characters.

Given that they are adding a heat mechanic to the game and it's coming out on the same day as Yakuza 8, it would be really cool if Kiryu Kazuma is one of the first guest characters.
As much as I love Kiryu, he's a guy in a suit who punches and kicks people. Anyone who isn't already a Yakuza fan would probably be pretty unhappy with his inclusion. Plus there's the whole "Kiryu will never hit a woman" thing that they may or may not still have to worry about...
Between his design, personality, and the potential for a flashy moveset, Majima would make for a MUCH better Tekken character.

@@Therealtrilldill Most of them are just his default style with a new name depending on the game, Rush is just boxing (Punching), Beast is just hitting people with bikes (Which Tekken wouldn't have) plus armor, and then there's Agent.
His potential move set isn't the problem. The problem is that a game like Tekken wouldn't be able to convey what makes Kiryu a good character. All we would get is his intro, fighting style, and win quote, and those aren't enough to explain to someone with no knowledge of the franchise why he deserves to be there. Unless they go all in on making Agent his main fighting style (Which would be pretty disappointing), people who know nothing about the character would just see a man in a suit punching and kicking people, because that's all Tekken would be able to show us.
Plus, we still don't know how protective they are of his image in terms of things like fighting women.
@@Sharkofspace he got way more moves than shaheen. And beast is a grappler so he’d have an assortment of grabs. Negan was just a guy with a bat but he was still a gangster ass tekken character. Kiryus fighting styles could definitely be implemented in tekken.

The roster of 32 + the 36 that you mentioned we are talking about a roster of 68 characters. It wouldn't be that hard knowing that 7 had 51 characters in the final roster and 20 in the starting roster. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still has the biggest roster with 89 playable fighters.
Ideally, I wish all the characters be in the roster, but that isn't realistic unfortunately. I still hope Kuni comes back again though; she's received so much love with her overhauling into TTT2 and eventually T7 to just put her back into the vault. As far as guest characters, I too think Tifa would flourish in Tekken, especially because FFVIIR is going to be heating up more and more in the coming years.
We need Tifa from FF7 and Kiryu from Yakuza as guests dammit!

I struggle to undestand people who can't find a character they like on this roster, it's not the perfect roster, but it has so many good choices that it should be able to appeal to pretty much everyone, of course I can point out the obvious with characters like Heihachi, Eddy, Lei, Marduk and Julia not being there and how they could've maybe got rid of the less inspired, bland characters like a Shaheen or Leroy or Leo for three of the aforementioned, but all-in-all, it's a very solid start (and there's no way around it, we're going to get DLC characters to balloon up the roster in the future).
As a heihach main i didnt find any replacement that is interesting enough. I would main marduk, armor king or Ganryu but they are also gone

@@alexa.4473 I'm still convinced Heihachi will be DLC, there's no way they aren't gonna capitalize on the oppurtunity to sell him, he'd be the best selling DLC they've ever had, even if you wanna justify his absence with story reasons, Heihachi is important enough to the plot and can make it as 1st wave DLC and part of the T8 story, plus it's not like there weren't dead characters on the roster before.

Asuka is a knowledge check character, I wouldn’t recommend her to beginners. I think Alicia is pretty hard to master, but feels easy to pick up and do well with.
I hope we get an open beta soon. I wanna play other characters i missed like Leroy and Bryan. Played a kot of Lars but i'd like to play Raven, Steve, Leo, Shaheen, Viktor, and Reina. Hope Eddy, Miguel, and Bruce come back. Old experienced Bruce Irving would be amazing. Was kinda hoping for Ogre, Lidia, and Eliza.
Kuma and Panda should have been the same slot and selectable with different buttons like it used to be. I would have liked to have seen Panda's spot go to a new character.

Zafina also appeared in Tekken Tag tournament 2 so Zafina's path is (Tekken 6 base -> tekken Tag tournament 2 -> tekken 7 DLC)
If Gon is a licensing nightmare, they should add in Agumon: both are tiny orange dinosaurs, but Agumon’s owned by the same company as Tekken, so he’d probably be much easier to add.
