Let's Try Tie Dye /// Tie Dyeing Screen Printed Shirts

- A client asked me if they could tie dye a shirt after I screen printed it with a white graphic, and I didn't really know what to tell them so I decided to see what would happen myself.

I’ve always found it the screen print has bubbled or any texture to it and then you fold/ scrunch etc before dying it penetrates under the ink and causes the staining. I find it can eventually clean off from washing / wiping but sometimes it’s just like that!
Ah! I have been looking for this answer everywhere but with reflective ink. I imagine it would have a similar result. Thank you!
Thank you for this insight!
I had wondered about that! Great video as always. Which dryer you thinking of getting? I just got the Vastex D1000.
Nice! I've got such a small space to work with, so I was thinking of getting the D-100.
why doesnt the dye stain the silk screen design. notification tag response please
I'm a tie dyer... the dyes for it are really only effective for clean cotton and natural fibers. I'm wagering the screen print inks are not allowing the dyes to penetrate the fibers.
Thank you! I have been trying to find exactly this info online. What kind of dye did you use?
I just got a DIY tie dye kit from Amazon. Can't remember what it was called, but it came with like 30 colors.
Great video man been having this in mind for a while.
I got a question for you, how do you cure your shirt?
Right now I either use a flash dryer or my heat press to cure the ink. Either works fine but not as preferable to a conveyor dryer which I hope to get soon.
@@joshisterrific thanks , I am currently doing the same but don’t understand why some parts of my inks wash off in washer
@@javiandangie hmm, is it plastisol? I would check to see what the ink manufacturer suggests as the proper cure temperature. You could use a temperature gun and point it at the heat source to make sure it's consistent across so all parts get evenly cured. For me I've found I get it more even on the heat press than the flash.
Do you wash the shirts before tie dying?
What kind of screen printing ink is this? I'm going to try a similar project with reverse tie dying and I'm worried that water based ink might not work.
It appears to be plastisol. I would just try it out and see what happens!
