  • Welcome back to another exciting episode of Station Cribs! In this episode, Heroes Next Door takes you on a journey to the picturesque town of Hubbell, nestled in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Hubbell is a small but resilient community that sits proudly above 70% of our Canadian neighbors and about 40 miles from the stunning coast of Lake Superior, making it one of the most remote locations in the lower 48 states. Hubbell Michigan was a key location for the success of America starting in the era of the First World War, with the mining of copper.
In Hubbell, a team of dedicated volunteer firefighters, numbering 20 strong, stands ready to respond to calls for help in all types of weather. And trust us when we say, they face some extreme weather conditions - an average of 300 inches of snowfall each year! These unsung heroes primarily respond to calls from their homes or workplaces, averaging just 20-30 service calls annually. You might wonder why they even need a fire station, but when you consider the vast geographical area they cover, you'll understand that every minute counts in saving lives and property.
Join us as we meet the incredible men and women who make up the Hubbell Fire Service. These community members wear many hats - from maintenance workers to skilled butchers and jacks of all trades - but they all come together when their town needs them most.
While Hubbell's firehouse may not be the biggest, newest, or roomiest, it radiates an undeniable spirit, drive, and determination to keep their small town safe. The station houses its equipment, though it's a tight squeeze. The apparatus might be hand-me-downs from other stations, but the Hubble team treats them with the utmost respect and care.
We were truly honored and privileged to tour this station and meet the incredible individuals who keep it running smoothly. Their pride and dedication extend beyond emergency response; they even compete in local and state parades and firefighter challenges, consistently bringing home multiple trophies.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! In 2024, Hubbell will host the 70th Copper County Firefighters Tournament on June 22nd. It's a significant event that we're looking forward to, and we hope to see you there too. Mark your calendars and show your support for these brave men and women who keep Hubble safe.
As always, thank you for watching, and if you haven't already, please subscribe, like, and share our videos. Your support means the world to us and enables us to continue showcasing amazing fire stations and their dedicated personnel. If you want an inside look at what it takes to be part of the Heroes Next Door family, consider joining us as a member. Together, we can explore even more incredible stations and share their inspiring stories.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Firefighter John Grathoff, the superfan whose unwavering dedication made this journey possible, and to Firefighters Rickie Lister, Lars Gariepy, and Chris Benson for generously sharing their time and insights on camera, allowing us to introduce the Hubbell Volunteer Fire Department to our Heroes Next Door audience. Your commitment to community safety and your willingness to inspire and educate others is truly commendable, and your contributions have left an indelible mark, showcasing the selflessness and heroism that defines your service.

@16:37 the Guys one boss telling him he had no problem with him leaving for calls , under one stipulation , that he returns to work safely , is one of the coolest things I ever heard a boss tell a volunteer firefighter , it conveys , no problem and that the boss loves his worker and wants him to be safe , different kind of people up there I guess . Total respect for a community like that !

Could I possibly make one small suggestion for videos that I've noticed in several past videos along with this one?
Many times the firefighters will be talking about something and showing you, but the camera never pans over to what it is they're showing. Example in this one being when the young gentleman was showing the back of the bays and the lockers, etc.
Just something small I've noticed in several videos.
But love them and the channel, mate! Keep rockin! 🚒

There's a department in Wisconsin that gets less then that simply due to the physical position of their station. Some departments get very few calls all year, and some get swamped. Nature of the job.
