- Big news! As Mickey Mouse enters the public domain, we're excited to unveil the trailer for Jamie Bailey's horror comedy, MICKEY'S MOUSE TRAP. Synopsis: It's Alex's 21st Birthday, but she's stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.
The film's Director Jamie Bailey states "We just wanted to have fun with it all.I mean it's Steamboat Willie's Mickey Mouse murdering people. It's ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows"
The film stars Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek and Simon Phillips. Music scored by Darren Morze. It was produced by Paul Whitney, Mark Popejoy, Alexander Gausman and Andrew Agopsowicz and the Co Producer is Filmcore's Mem Ferda.The film itself is still awaiting a confirmed release date - but is expected in March 2024.

Which yeah is nothing but that movie cost only 100k to make, so still a nice profit for a nothing studio that churns out no budget films. This one I would bank money will make at least a few million if not more than 5. Which again, 1-5 million is nothing in movie Box Office land but this movie looks like it was made for even less than Blood and Honey so it will turn a profit you can almost guarantee.

Trademarks protect people from doing too much with him. Yeah obviously they can do something like this, but I doubt it will be a huge glut of Mickey stuff. Just was inevitable after seeing what easy money you could make doing this kind of thing with minimal effort after Blood and Honey some people were going to jump at it first.
To the surprise of no one. No popular character in public domain is safe. It literally took less than a couple of months for Winnie the Pooh to come out with the horror movie. I think we all made the joke that steam boat, Willie, the reckoning or something will come out as soon as we saw that the original Mickey Mouse was going into public domain.

Probably would have happened anyway, but after Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey made 5 million off like a 100-200k budget I would question peoples business sense if they disn't. If you are a producer of now budget horror movies something like this is easy money. It is almost certain they will make at least 5 million off this from curiousity seekers and the like alone, and hell this movie doesn't even look like it spent 100k to make. That is a lot of easy money with minimal effort for a no budget movie company.

Me personally, I find this movie to be very interesting. The killer is not Mickey Mouse just someone wearing a Mickey Mouse mask. It looks pretty good. We shouldn’t have high expectations. It’s just a probably cheesy but fun horror movie. At least it’s not like Winnie the Pooh blooded honey with the killers are actually the Winnie the Pooh characters. Just give it a chance. If you like it fine if you don’t like it Ok. Don’t knock it till you try it. It looks like a fan film but with higher quality.

@@kamikeserpentail3778 My general understanding is that companies, most notably Disney, lobbied heavily to affect & extend copyright laws to the point of being ridiculous. There is some sense to it, but it's a slippery slope for a huge company like Disney's favor. Take Kino's cleanups & enhanced arrangements of the movie Metropolis. I'm pretty certain the laws favor the idea that Kino has made a new version of Metropolis and that unique things done with their version are their own copyright and it cannot be legally redistributed. But really, though!? Anyone who would watch and compare almost every version would mistake it for just Metropolis.

First we have Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey. Second, they have plans for a sequel and a shared universe, then we have The Mean One and now... Willie that will go on a murderous rampage. But my concern is the title since it may sound familar to Disney's Mickey Mouse, they should just replace "Mickey" into "Willie." But I'm looking forward watching it and hopefully it's worth the watch.

It was probably in the works before Steamboat Willie became public domain.
That is the one problem with this horror trend with public domain characters. A Steamboat Willie or Winnie the Pooh horror movie with even a million or two spend on it, could produce something that might be legit entertaining, instead of low budget minimal effort movies we are getting. But those would not have the same quick turnaround as something like this, and curiosity seekers will come to see the first Mickley horror movie but they won't likely spend it on "another" Mickey horror movie since they got their fix the first time. So we probably are being denied a movie that is at least better if not fully good by this race to use them first that is clearly going to start.
