That’s amazing! Thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it and I hope you have an amazing trip! I have a top 10 Astoria video that’s more in depth about that town, it’s a good one to check out. It the most historically significant town on the coast!! Happy travels!
Dear friend, I have lived in Oregon for a year, and it is truly amazing what you created here for us to enjoy or just get back some of the most amazing memories I created there. Nowadays, I struggle with a lot of stress due to much work, but this really brought me back in time and I feel much more uplifted. Thank you again for sharing and wishing you the best :)
Oh my goodness, thank you for the kind words! That comment made this whole video worth it! I’m glad you can just watch and enjoy the beauty of the Oregon coast and the unique personality of this town, while also living it through the lens with me. Lots more Oregon videos to come, hope you join on some more adventures with me ❤️
I live in St. Helens, grew up here and on Puget Island on the Columbia River commercial fishing. You hit most of the spots I would recommend. The Portway Tavern is a historic tavern with great food and a collection of life rings from boats and ships, one of mine included. If you head upriver you have spots like Cathlamet, Stella, Rainier, and St. Helens that all have different things to offer and are historically significant. I mention Stella because that was where they made the Cigar Rafts of logs that were sent to San Francisco after the earthquake and fires, they have a really cool little museum. Cathlamet is like stepping back into Mayberry RFD, they have a wonderful marina with camping, the bridge to Puget Island, and the Ferry to Westport Oregon. St. Helens has wonderful access to the river and the city has a park on Sand Island with camping, docks, and a shuttle during the summer. My family originally came to Astoria from Norway and Sweden for the commercial fishing, then moved upriver to Puget Island and Cathlamet, my parents moved to St. Helens 50 miles upriver. That is where I am now, at the Marina in my sailboat kicking back with my Siamese cat.
There is a lot here, so let me unpack it: You are living on a sailboat in a marina kickin' it with your siamese cat!?! That's freaking awesome. I hope you stay in touch through my channel, but if you start makin videos let me know becuase that sounds like a very interesting life! And super cool, lots of history in the area that I didn't know about, thanks for sharing! I had never heard of Cathlamet before. Also sounds like your your family were some of the original migrants that built out the PNW! Take care ;)
Hi 👋 Just ran across this UA-cam video and read your comment. How cool sailing around. I miss sailing. Live by the ocean, go on the river, but not the same as sailing. Best wishes for your travels. ⛵
That honestly means so much to me, the fact that it actaully helped you as a guide to enjoying your trip is exactly what I was hoping for, I even showed my family your comment! Glad you had a great trip! ;)
Because of your videos we planned the most epic week on the coast. My little boys made comments about what you said in one of your videos about a certain spot. We all loved it! Keep it up!
Thank you for putting out this video. My mind was boggled with where to go. I tried Trip Advisor, but there isn’t much there. This video made me excited for an upcoming trip. Please make more videos on Oregon :)
Such a nice comment! Thank you so much 😊 I’ve made a few guides of my stomping grounds: Cannon Beach, Seaside and my Oregon Coast top 10 as well as some waterfall videos and more to come! I appreciate you checking my channel out 🙌
We are from Pennsylvania and traveling through Oregon, down the coast and over to Idaho. Your video of Astoria makes Us so excited to get there. Love your energy and suggestions!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I have a bunch of Oregon Coast Videos, dedicated Top 10 videos on Seaside & Cannon Beach as well as the top 10 places you have to visit on the Oregon Coast! 😜 have an amazing trip, and happy travels!
You are very thorough in covering the local sites. We live in Portland and we really like Astoria and we take the Amtrak bus which goes from Portland to Cannon Beach, Seaside and Astoria. The busses are nice and the drivers are friendly. We especially like going to the coast in the winter to watch the storms.
That’s awesome! We’ll thank you so much, I appreciate it! I’ve got a really exciting couple of Oregon videos coming up soon. Hope to see you in the comments of the future videos 🌲
My husband and I are planning a day trip to Astoria from Kelso. Thanks for the info on things to do. My grandma lived in Netarts and my folks would ship me off to her for the summer in the 60s and 70s. I had aunts and uncles and cousins in Oceanside and also out on hwy 101 just before Beaver. Those cousins went to Nestucca H.S. The ones in Oceanside I'm not sure but they all had official lifeguard training. Happy memories of Grandma's Gravenstein applesauce. It was the best!
Sounds like some great memories from back in the day! What an awesome thing to cherish. I wish I could have been around back then to see it. I like Netarts for the clamming, but Astoria is certainly an excellent place to spend a few days and see the history - it’s very cool and history significant for Oregon. Have a blast!
Amazing! So stoked you stumbled across my viddy, have so much fun and enjoy one of the coolest working towns on the Coast! Make sure you watch the Goonies before you go, also there are even newer owners of the Goonies house that are huge fans and I think you can go inside.
Awww man, I appreciate that, I really do - I’m glad you got some value from them, It’s a pretty easy region to brag about and make videos - you will have a blast! Don’t hesitate to reach out for any other tips or advice 😜
I live in the UK and was resisting the urge to watch the Goonies again (instead of working!) and found your video. I'm sold, just got to figure out how to get enough money to get over to the West Coast USA and visit all the places in your list 😊
Oh wow! That’s crazy, we’ll I’m glad you got to relive some of your home through my video. Astoria is such a cool town and as I stated, the most historically significant city on the west coast - so much history here! 😜
Great video and good job narrating. One thing that could have been mentioned was the fishing... Surf fishing jetty fishing crab fishing charter fishing.
Hey thanks! Being completely honest I should have included this, it’s such a big part of the town - if I added one more thing, fishing is the absolute winner and would have gotten it, but I am broke and didnt want to charter a boat to get footage haha, anyway. Thanks again
I used to build 500’ tall towers. One guy on the crew would bring a magazine to make paper airplanes. Some would just dive, others would fly quite a ways. Once in a while it would catch the air currents just right and fly for miles. You could just see a tiny reflection to know if was still in flight.
Regarding the Maritime Museum - there’s a 3 cylinder *Atlas Imperial* diesel engine in the entranceway! It’s green, lots of brass, etc. Took a lot of pictures of it, as well as much else in the museum.
And watch Kindergarten Cop. And I agree that the Column is #1. I always make sure visitors get to go there. Beautiful views of practically the whole county, whether or not you climb to the top.
oh wow, that's awesome! Yeah, thanks for watching the video and commenting, I really appreciate it! You are going to love Astoria, lots of history but just know it is very much still a working town, a fishing town and can feel industrial in some areas, but there are very cute areas as well ;)
To my knowledge, Bouy Brewing had a massive collapse in the kitchen from the weight of all the appliances and such and they are possible moving or rebuilding… that was a cool feature I wonder if it will live to see another day or if it will be refreshed… 🍻
@@JacksonMeyer- It wasn’t from overloading. The pier on which the brewery and restaurant were developed had defects which were not corrected before development. I think some piles failed, leading to the collapse. As of November 2023, the building seems to be in the same state as when it collapsed, except for being fenced off. I’m wondering when they will repair it.
Thank you for this awesome video! My fiance and I will be there later this summer for the first time and I really didn't know what to do there. We've been to the Oregon Coast many times but never north of Newport. Your video is really well done and I am even more excited to visit Astoria now! Great job!
Glad it was helpful! Thankyou so much, I love this part of the coast and I hope you will too! I have videos on Cannon Beach and Seaside as well, things you CAN'T miss! Enjoy your trip!
I love that I came across you posting this link in an Oregon group on fb! I was able to visit Astoria once in May of 2017, and my souls been pulled to it since. Currently hoping to transfer with my job and move up that way sooner than later! Crusty colorado doesn’t do it for me lol.
I can’t tell you how much comments like this mean to me, I showed my wife who read it aloud to my parents 😜 - super cool man, glad you are finding them useful. Have a blast this summer in Oregon, it truly is an epic place! 🤙
Great job! My husband and I grew up in the area. We’ve taught our children to always look for airplanes before heading up the column. We’ve found that once people have made the climb up those stairs, they tend to look longingly at our airplanes and often ask where to get them. We’ve joked about doing a side hustle of selling those airplanes for $1 each once we’re at the top.😉
Thank you so much, I hope I did the incredible town of Astoria justice! I just shared this comment with my wife because I am just always looking for planes up there haha, and I can’t believe I didn’t think of selling them myself… GENIUS!
Two sites sites of interest to history buffs, a short drive out of Astoria, are: 1. Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, at the site of their winter camp. 2. On the way to (1) a memorial to Conde McCullough, engineer of many distinctive bridges in Oregon. The two drawbridges in and near Astoria are two of his earliest surviving bridges. The memorial is located next to the bridge over the Lewis and Clark River.
Yup, the Lewis and Clark Fort (National Historical Park) is a pretty cool replica and great place to visit! And very interesting, I didn't know about #2. Thanks!
I love Astoria,it’s where my grandparents live,so I’ve been there many times.I personally like going down to see the sea lions,or in the summertime ride the trolly!
The trolly is the best! The sea lions are fun... but they get annoying quick and the Salmon in the river suffer due to their population growth... I'm not a fan,, but I'm glad you are! ;)
I’m on the east side of the state but Astoria is easily one of my favorite places to go. I don’t care how long the line is for Bowpicker; it’s worth the wait!
I agree with you: Bowpicker has some serious competition in the area. Frite and scoop is under new ownership shortly (if it hasn't already) gotta try their insane ice cream.
I love Astoria I live about an hour away and we go down there like every 2 weeks or so and go do stuff. Love the Sunday market. Such a great town, great people, low crime all around cool place. We got to Warrenton for groceries. Some killer restaurants down there too. If you go to bow picker and there’s too many people try to Mexican food truck right across from it. So dang good. There’s also an awesome Mexican food palce I just found called “La Cabana De Raya” (or something like that) across the second bridge into Warrenton that’s absolutely amazing food.
Oh yeah, so you know it well - it's a rad working town. and yeah I've only been to that food cart once and it was delicious! Thanks for watching the viddy and commenting, I appreciate the local love. After I get done with my Europe trip, it will be back to making Oregon content.
Beautiful town, beautiful nature. And that is a great compliment from someone who lives in Dalmatia, Croatia. As a fan of egging, I would like to know if there are squid in your waters.
This was a great video about Astoria! I had the pleasure of performing at a restaurant/ nightclub back in the early 1980’s and I have fond memories of this charming town! Too bad the old Shilo was erased from existence but the memories live on. Rock on Mike and Bruce!
I read this comment to my wife, that is so cool! I'm glad that you enjoyed this video and walked back through memory lane ;) Astoria really is an amazing place, glad you have positive memories there!
Wow… loved your video. This place is so close to home (Victoria, BC) and now it is definitely on my list of places to tour locally…. May i suggest you do Port Angeles some day and take the ferry to Victoria… 1.5 hours and you are in another coastal town with history that is part and parcel of the west coast.. like Astoria.❤
I've been in the south of Oregon last May and June. Coming December I will be arriving in Portland, I wont stay long because I'm going to visit the son of my partner there. But we will make a day in Astoria, I'm a film buff, so guess what Ii will be doing😉. Plus the trolley we will do for sure. Looking forward to it all.
Thank you so much! I hope I did Your town justice, it’s an incredible place and I’ve enjoyed getting to know it over the last few months more than I had the last few decades! I’m bias to seaside so I rarely head up that way, but that has certainly changed! ;)
@@JacksonMeyer You are so very welcome! It was really great and look forward to many more videos you two make! Thinking Manzanita, Garabaldi, Tillamook area would be pretty fun to see too. Wishing you both well! :)
Just a heads up Drina Daisy is not around anymore. Unfortunately the owners just retired. The location is still a restaurant but it's called Tres Bros owned by a local family. It's kind of a more upscale taco restaurant. I haven't tried it but I've heard only good things from those who have.
I super-fan of the Goonies house recently acquired the house and is going to slowly restore the house to be more like how it was in the movie. And welcomes people to get a selfie with the house. His neighbour two doors down has a sign saying “Goonies not welcome” … so he added a new sign saying “Goonies are welcome”.
Yeah! That's actually huge news in the community - it's been such a hotly discussed topic that has caused emotions on both sides of the spectrum that to have a passionate owner that is open about his intentions to preserve the house and make it open to the public is pretty freaking cool!
The Liberty Theater downtown has tours and also shows films and concerts. Downtown has fantastic shops not mentioned. Flavel House is a better attraction than you let on. Ty. Astoria is a fantastic stop.
I love the liberty and all the events there. And yes - tons of great shops as well. I know I was a little hard on the flavel house… it’s a super important part of Astoria’s history… but I don’t think it warrants paying the money to tour it… idk.
Great glimpse of Astoria, but certainly not the whole story. The food segment missed Josephson's Smokehouse. With over 100 years of delectable history, Josephson's can offer limited seating for a walk-in lunch. Their mainstay is the world-wide persistent clientele that keeps the shipping-crew busy, but they very graciously welcome retail guests. The Clam Chowder is hands-down the best in Astoria.
Well this sounds like self promotion of the highest degree ;) But I see where you are coming from, but my experiences at Josephson's have been good, stocking stuffer smoked meats, lunches, etc. Nothing has blown my socks off except for the prices, I can't afford to buy meats from here. I now have to try the chowder though, that I haven't had.
@@JacksonMeyer I and my partner often share a bagel to go along with that chowder. I recommend the cold-smoked wine-maple salmon. No self-interest here. I just hope you and your partner both enjoy... repeatedly. 🥰
Pro-Tip: Keep your ear tuned for the Warrenton Deep Sea Fishermen's Benefit Crab Feed which is annually presented (late January-ish), depending on the harvest at the Warrenton Community Center. A wonderful cause and wonderful food. Several vessels contribute the prime first-catch which accords we land-lubbers a full Dungeness crab, coleslaw, garlic cheese bread, cocktail sauce, beverage, and dessert. Festival seating and prepare to be splashed by your neighbors' using lengths of 2 x 2 fir to crack the shells. Don't be surprised to find yourself seated next to a local, county, or State dignitary. It draws those officeholders / office seekers about as readily as the annual Brownsmead Corn Feed. OH - did I mention the Corn Feed?
I live in Astoria... And this was great... Great drone shots... You really captured a lot of highlights.Yay for disk golf! I spend hours and hours there.. Also... bummer to announce, but that's not fresh local tuna at the Bowypicker.. (Just found that out). OR maybe only a few weeks a year: agreed: NOT worth an hour wait!
Amazing! I’m glad I have the appreciation of a local - that’s super cool, and always feels nice to know I’ve hit the nail on the head. The tuna I want to know more about… because that is a bummer. Grizzly tuna in seaside is better in my opinion. 🐟😜 Hope you can get some value from my other videos and I’ll see you around ✌️
I WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS VIDEO. THE AIRPLANES TOO COOL. I WAS WONDERING WHEN I STAYED AT FORT STEVENS WHY THERE WERE A COUPLE OF THEM BY THE SHIP WRECK😁
great video. will be here for only one day on a cruise, so i appreciate all the info. we are too old and outta shape to climb that column, though...lol.
haha, it's not bad! But the Astor Column is a must! Feel free to grab some planes on the ground before heading up, and also purchase one or two to support the community ;) What's the cruise you are on?
Great videos, Jackson! In the early stages of planning a trip for my wife and me next June. We're going to try to go for Goonies weekend/the movie's 40th anniversary. If we stayed 4 nights (Friday through Tuesday) in Astoria do you think that's too much? Would you recommend maybe doing just a couple nights there then staying in a different coast town like Seaside or Cannon Beach for the other nights?
Oh awesome, you are going to have a blast! I had no idea that that was next year, are all the actors coming back? I've got to look into this. You hit the nail on the head, I'd do 2 nights in CB, and 2 nights in Astoria. Seaside is close to CB, but not far from Astoria, but basing out of Astoria makes it more difficult to do CB and some beaches that are south of there (I have videos on all those places btw). Either way, you will have a blast.
@@JacksonMeyersweet! Thanks so much man! Not sure if the actors are coming back… but hoping a few do! Hit me up if you ever want help planning a vacation in Western or Northern Michigan! Lake superior coast in the UP is insane!
That's awesome, glad I could help you enjoy the golden years! I just saw that, insane, I kind of want to know how to monetize that house to make the 1.3m price tag digestible.
I was the railroad signal maintainer back in 1983 and had responsibility for every crossing signal from Portland to Warrenton. My favorite thing, other than the tug boater's bars, was buying a bucket of Colonel Sanders Kentucky fried chicken and feeding the seagulls down at one of the several still operating canneries, mostly pier 8 through 12. Nowadays its 95% superb eatery joints that have blossomed. Hopefully, this delightful little city doesn't get mongrelized like Provincetown, MA. Also, we're hoping that the coloring contest returns to the Silver Salmon in February, AND the Fisherman's Poetry event a bit after that. Both were exceptional events.
i went here a few years ago during covid times.. so didnt get to go into the column.. but i did pay to get my name engraved into one of the pavers surrounding the column .. due to covid it took over a year for it to he completed .. gonna go see it next month
I saw the movie Sometimes I Think About Dying recently and it is set in Astoria ! Would love to know where the film locations are ! Great video though, thanks :)
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the kind words, and I'll be honest... I've never seen the movie. Will have to check it out though, probably some recognizable scenes from Astoria!
I’m glad you liked it! Hope it gave you a good overview of Astoria - it’s such a neat town. Anyway; thanks again - I’ve got vids on Seaside and Cannon Beach as well!
Hey there! I wish that I would have said more positive things about the Flavel house, it really is a local icon and a historic house. I just wanted to warn people that a family trip here is going to cost like $35-50... that's just too much to tour a house in my opinion, lots of great resources online. Anyway, I really appreciate you commenting!
If the Bowpicker line is too long for you, right across the street in the gas station parking lot is the taco truck - great Mexican food at reasonable prices.
Good callout - I’ve heard that a lot, I love the bow picker, but the food doesn’t justify the line, it’s great fish and chips…but not for an hour wait, plus they have a bunch of customers, super good to support other local businesses! 🤙
Great video. Saw you comment on Casey’s vlog and found your channel. Wife and I make similar content in the NW. Do you ever find you wish your content could be more story based? I know I do.
I absolutely do. BUT, this sort of content that is very search-based and informational doesnt rely on it as much. I’d love to do more daily vlogs or at least linear storytelling like Casey does, but all in time. I have a 2-part Oregon coast road trip I’m pretty excited about, We’ll see! Thanks for stopping by! See ya around ✌🏼
@@JacksonMeyer totally understand. We are in the same boat. Sometimes wish I lived in a city the size of NY. There would be so much to vlog about. Keep up the great work.
You could have mentioned the chief Comcomly memorial which is also at the Astoria column! Plus the Wet Dog cafe was a good place to eat when we were there!
Thinking about moving there from Seattle in late spring/early summer. I heard an Amtrak also runs through there to Portland, which is nice for those who don't have a vehicle, but not sure how true this is.
Awesome! Yeah there is and it cost $15. What I will say is Seattle to Astoria will be culture Shock. Astoria is nice and all, but the employment opertunities revolve around the marine/logging and tourism economy. I fyou aren't in one of those it might be tough. Cost of living isn't bad... it will be a unique experience that is for sure. I'd visit first ;)
Well this video [hopefully] was a great place to start! 😜 - let me know if you have any questions or comments, I’d be happy to help, but regardless you will enjoy your time here
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your comment and checking out the video, Im glad you came along for the ride and enjoyed it! I have a few other videos about the Oregon Coast - I just love it here! I’m very proud of this video though, so hearing that you liked it, makes me happy. And Nice to have a Bangalore fan! Eat some authentic roti over there for me ;) it’s my favorite dish
Thank you for this comment first off, I actually have never been, heard lots about it, but now that you said this and I looked into it, it looks incredible and will visit in the next few weeks, thanks for the recommendation!
haha, cash is fine, but you lose out on valuable credit card point currency which enable free travel, so I'd rather always pay credit card - but hey if it works for them, sounds good to me ;)
Haha - this is the best comment and so true. You don’t have to give specifics, but what are the other good F&C in town? I like Grizzly tuna in Seaside…
@@JacksonMeyer- I usually get halibut and chips at the Astoria Brewery (formerly Wet Dog Saloon), but I have recently discovered the halibut sandwich and fries at Ship Out at Miles Crossing, which is just outside Astoria across the old Young’s Bay Bridge at the beginning of Lewis and Clark Road.
I've always wondered how could a town thats only ten thousand look so much bigger than it is? I guess it has a lot of tourists, tourists make it possible for lots of businesses to exist I guess, even in the winter time there's probably a lot of tourists because it's so pretty and so much to see if you dont mind rain.
It's a reasonable callout - the closest mo's from here is Seaside,.I worked at the one in Cannon Beach and as someone who was raised out here and has a decent pulse on seafood... I CANNOT recommend Mo's. They are turn-and-burn style, they care about getting you your food fast and getting you out the door, that combined witht heir locations and corporate structure makes it really hard to do fresh seafood. it's ALL frozen at Mo's. Also, I've served at many restaurants around town, the things I saw at Mo's don't make me feel comfortable eating there - I know it holds a special place in many peoples hearts, but for me... it makes my stomach turn.
It's down the hill a bit from the Goonie house I went to school there just to young by few years to have been there when the movie was filmed. They used a lot of the local school kids as extras especially in shots with lots of kids.
Bowpicker is good but it's not worth an hour wait. Fries are not fresh cut. They are frozen from your classic Chef Store chain. Tartar I believe is also NOT made in house. Shark Bites in Coos Bay has same "breading" this place has but doesn't use tuna, just cod and Halibut (which is dope ad too).
The Goonie house is absolutely here ;) If you watched the full thing I do a tour of the house, it also was shot in Cannon Beach and down farther south, but the opening scene was Astoria ;)
@@JacksonMeyer thank you for reply. Yes I am coming on the cruise and only will have 6 h. Hope to get an Uber to go to fort. Trying to see if I should just stay in town and see thing’s available or I have enough time to do both? Thank you for your kind reply.
@@JacksonMeyer i think that building is the reference for "Blackwell Academy" which is the high-school Max (the girl with superpower) and her cool punk friend Chloe attend in the game, Chloe hates the school so calls it "blackhell"!
Haha - to each their own, but unless you’ve been to every eatery in town and explored every corner of the entire town and outskirts I’m sure there are more things to do here. I like getting out of my own city as well though, need ti keep it fresh!
Going to Oregon this fall and really looking forward to Astoria. Can’t wait, it looks amazing!

I live in the UK and was resisting the urge to watch the Goonies again (instead of working!) and found your video. I'm sold, just got to figure out how to get enough money to get over to the West Coast USA and visit all the places in your list 😊
That is amazing!! The Goonies is a top 5 movie for me, just so good!! 🏴☠️ Thanks for leaving a nice comment, I appreciate it
I was born in Astoria and I often miss it this was a great video about what all to do there 😊
Oh wow! That’s crazy, we’ll I’m glad you got to relive some of your home through my video. Astoria is such a cool town and as I stated, the most historically significant city on the west coast - so much history here! 😜
@@JacksonMeyer yes it does thank you ☺️. If you’re interested in anything more spooky you can see about exploring the underground tunnels there.
You could just see a tiny reflection to know if was still in flight.
that's super cool - I would definitely do the same thing :)
Regarding the Maritime Museum - there’s a 3 cylinder *Atlas Imperial* diesel engine in the entranceway! It’s green, lots of brass, etc. Took a lot of pictures of it, as well as much else in the museum.
Very cool 😎
great energy and made me realize it's a place I would love to visit.
Thank you so much! Astoria really is one of the best Oregon Coast Towns out there - come visit!
Thank you for this video. I’m planning an Astoria trip in early October so this video really helps with ideas and tips. I can’t wait!!
You are very welcome - thank you for watching my video, it means a lot to me!! Have so much fun and make sure you watch the goonies before you come!
And watch Kindergarten Cop. And I agree that the Column is #1. I always make sure visitors get to go there. Beautiful views of practically the whole county, whether or not you climb to the top.
Nice job! We are on a NCL cruise in October that stops in Astoria and your video helped us plan things to do! Thanks!
oh wow, that's awesome! Yeah, thanks for watching the video and commenting, I really appreciate it! You are going to love Astoria, lots of history but just know it is very much still a working town, a fishing town and can feel industrial in some areas, but there are very cute areas as well ;)
I like the see thru floor at Buoy Brewing, where you can watch the sea lions resting on the wood beneath the pier.
Ayyyyy - hope you can’t make it back out! The Oregon Coast is magic - as you can see by my UA-cam channel it’s like my favorite place ever, it’s home.
I freaking love your videos dude. My partner and I are heading to Oregon in May and you are giving us so many spots to see and experience. CANNOT WAIT
Two sites sites of interest to history buffs, a short drive out of Astoria, are:
I'm not a fan,, but I'm glad you are! ;)
So happy for you bro. These videos are amazing and there is no way you don't succeed big. You're a natural with this
-your boy J Dooney
J Dooney! Stoked to hear from you again, thanks for the encouragement man, I really hope you are right! 🤞😜
I’m on the east side of the state but Astoria is easily one of my favorite places to go. I don’t care how long the line is for Bowpicker; it’s worth the wait!
It's a very special town and the Bowpicker is really good, I'll give ya that. ;) Hope you can make it out here soon.
Live here, good vid. Bowpicker has slipped but may pick up this year, 2024. Gonna try the ice cream at Frites and Scoop.
I agree with you: Bowpicker has some serious competition in the area. Frite and scoop is under new ownership shortly (if it hasn't already) gotta try their insane ice cream.
Hello, greetings from Medellin, Colombia. I love Astoria, it is a very nice and quiet city. I would love to live there.
Hello there! Wow, super cool, thanks for the comment. Astoria really in such a cool town, I hope you get to come visit soon or live! ;)
The trick with the bow picker is to call in your order and you can just skip the line and just pick up. Its a local hack.
Love this video. Looking forward to the arcade.
have a blast! the arcade is fun... the one in Seaside is better :) That's my home and made a video about it as well!
Beautiful town, beautiful nature. And that is a great compliment from someone who lives in Dalmatia, Croatia. As a fan of egging, I would like to know if there are squid in your waters.
Astoria Oregon college students came up to our site on San Juan Islands to fill their aquarium with native fish!
What? haha that sounds odd, students from Clatsop community college?
I live near Fort Stevens. GREAT job on this video !
I appreciate it very much! I really tried to capture our amazing little town of Astoria ;)
Thankyou so much, I really appreciate it! And I would love to get up to Victoria, it's definitely on our list - it sounds amazing!
YES!!!! Astoria is honestly such a cool place, I can't get enough, go have fun out there!
Awesome job. Born and raised here! :) Thank you.
Oh dude how could you miss Drina Daisy? Best food in Astoria hands down!!
Thankyou for your comment, people do need to know about Drina!
Just a heads up Drina Daisy is not around anymore. Unfortunately the owners just retired. The location is still a restaurant but it's called Tres Bros owned by a local family. It's kind of a more upscale taco restaurant. I haven't tried it but I've heard only good things from those who have.
It's more like a Jericho set up then a Plaza Jalisco both good Astorian restaurants but with different atmosphere.
Here to see the scenery from the epic novel "The Brigade" happening partially in Astoria and Seaside (mostly in Portland).
That's awesome!! Thanks for Checking out my viddies!
Imogen and RiverSea art galleries in downtown Astoria deserve mention.
Thanks for shouting them out, I appreciate it!
Especially for Christmas they put on a little event where you can get real good Christmas pudding like the one in a Christmas Carol.
I WAS WONDERING WHEN I STAYED AT FORT STEVENS WHY THERE WERE A COUPLE OF THEM BY THE SHIP WRECK😁
hahaha, well now you know, thank you for watching ;)
great video. will be here for only one day on a cruise, so i appreciate all the info. we are too old and outta shape to climb that column, though...lol.
haha, it's not bad! But the Astor Column is a must! Feel free to grab some planes on the ground before heading up, and also purchase one or two to support the community ;) What's the cruise you are on?
@@JacksonMeyer royal princess out of sfo 4/23 to 4/30. Astoria, Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria.
I love Astoria 😁😁Very interested city and very nice city 😆😆
It truly is, I love Astoria - such a unique town with so much history and so much fun!
We’ll done Jackson! Great video shots as well as concise details to be aware of at each location.
Thank you Lora, I appreciate it very much! I am very happy with how it turned out 😜
Dude!!!!! Reliving my best years through your video's!!! Much love stay happy & healthy! (FYI Goonies house is up for sale!!! 1.3M)
That’s awesome! Thanks for the history, I think Astoria has a bright future ahead of it, I love all the eateries along the piers! Thx for commenting
i went here a few years ago during covid times.. so didnt get to go into the column.. but i did pay to get my name engraved into one of the pavers surrounding the column .. due to covid it took over a year for it to he completed .. gonna go see it next month
Oh wow, super cool! That's awesome, enjoy your time at the Astor Column!
Oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the US West Coast is the Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, CA.
very interesting! Thanks for the heads up
Sick putt! Thanks for the video
Haha thanks! 😊
Fantastic presentation!!!
Thank you so much, I appreciate the kind words :) I have more videos on my channel that you might like as well.
@@JacksonMeyer - I will definitely check them out!
Really great video. Thank you!
I’m glad you liked it! Hope it gave you a good overview of Astoria - it’s such a neat town. Anyway; thanks again - I’ve got vids on Seaside and Cannon Beach as well!
Great video! I did like the Flavel House though...and looked up the family members on Google.
Pro tip for visitors: look for planes on the drive up.
Looking good Jax!
Thanks man, and yes - always be scoping out for abandoned airplanes on the drive up! 🤙🏼
You could have mentioned the chief Comcomly memorial which is also at the Astoria column! Plus the Wet Dog cafe was a good place to eat when we were there!
trueeeeee, and I know, Wet dog is a staple for sure just too much to mention!
Wet Dog is now Astoria Brewery. I don’t know why they would change the name to something so ordinary.
It's not called the wet dog anymore it'd now the Astoria brewing company.
I'd visit first ;)
Going to Astoria tomorrow and I’m interested
Well this video [hopefully] was a great place to start! 😜 - let me know if you have any questions or comments, I’d be happy to help, but regardless you will enjoy your time here
@@JacksonMeyer lol I appreciate it! I am very happy that the trolley is an option
What a lovely vlog. Very relaxing footage 🤘Felt like I was exploring Oregon Coast with you🔥🔥New fan from Bangalore 😍😍
So sad you didn't visit the Garden of Surging Waves. It is a wonderful experience in Downtown Astoria. IT is #1 IMO.
Thank you for this comment first off, I actually have never been, heard lots about it, but now that you said this and I looked into it, it looks incredible and will visit in the next few weeks, thanks for the recommendation!
Sadly last I heard is the homeless took that over pretty much. Trying to take over the new Scandanavian park as well that was just built. Truly sad.
Goonies never say die
Ayyyyy exactly!! ☠️🏴☠️
I love cash only! Good for them!🇺🇸🇺🇸
haha, cash is fine, but you lose out on valuable credit card point currency which enable free travel, so I'd rather always pay credit card - but hey if it works for them, sounds good to me ;)
This is so dope
I appreciate it my friend!
You missed sunset beach , its an amazing drive-in[4*4] beach.
I mean I didn’t miss it, I just chose not to include it 😜 - It just didn’t make my top 10, thanks for watching!
The best thing about the Bowpicker is that it keeps all those people out of the place where I get my fish ‘n’ chips.
It is the county seat, so serves the entire county.
Just a FYI, the South Jetty tower is currently closed due to wood rot.
Great to know!!! Thank you! @EVERYONE, note this! ^^^^
you should've visited the short circuit house in astoria
Interesting house for sure, but it didn’t make my top 10! 😜
Mo's, best clam chowder , and good fish and chips.
The school for Kindergarten Cop was shot in Astoria I believe.
You betcha! It is there on the hill, it’s very cool 😎
It's down the hill a bit from the Goonie house I went to school there just to young by few years to have been there when the movie was filmed. They used a lot of the local school kids as extras especially in shots with lots of kids.
This town remind me of arcadia bay town in "life is strange"
I'll have to check that out, thanks for the comment.
Astoria is a nice beach.
Astoria is a great town indeed, thanks for watching
There is no beach in Astoria that I am aware of. There are many beaches near Astoria, at the ocean shore.
I completely agree with you - I've had better - it is iconic though.
The Peter Iredale is in Warrenton and so is Fort Stevens
That is correct - it's just outside Astoria... it's actually hammond I believe, regardless you should check those out if you are in Astoria ;)
It's too bad the east mooring basin is closed... Sea lion viewing up close could be fun.
Ugh - I totally agree!! I was out there and excited to walk down and get close but it was fenced off 👎 - thanks for the comment!
I've literally been to half of these places
Hey man - thanks for stopping by again, which ones haven’t you done?
Fort George Brewery 👍
Stellar place. 🍺
Nice job
Thanks Josh, I appreciate the kind words and the comment - Tell the family I say hello!
Went to the silver salmon restaurant in Astoria!!! Awesome
niiiiice, they have a lot of great eateries in Astoria.
@jackson Meyer, can you make a video of surfing and everything you own like your wetsuit and everything you own please?
It will have to be the right video, but I will eventually, just stay tuned 🏄♂️
@@JacksonMeyer ok. Would also like to know more about you being a human statue
I think the movie 'The Goonies' took place there.
The Goonie house is absolutely here ;) If you watched the full thing I do a tour of the house, it also was shot in Cannon Beach and down farther south, but the opening scene was Astoria ;)
Its totally why I'm watching it..cause I'm watching the goonies right now
I was born in astoria and one day i want to live there
That's awesome, it truly is a spectacular place of historic importance! Especially here in the PNW, it's a gem.
I haven only 6 h. Shoot I go to fort Koop or not/ thank you
Can you say that again? You only have 6 hours should you go to Fort Clatsop… Or, what are you deciding between?
@@JacksonMeyer thank you for reply. Yes I am coming on the cruise and only will have 6 h. Hope to get an Uber to go to fort. Trying to see if I should just stay in town and see thing’s available or I have enough time to do both? Thank you for your kind reply.

Motel 6 in Astoria is one of my top spots. Jk
haha, that Motel 6 is brutal haha
3:47 oh Blackwell or Blackhell if you know what im zayin
I don’t… please explain.
@@JacksonMeyer i think that building is the reference for "Blackwell Academy" which is the high-school Max (the girl with superpower) and her cool punk friend Chloe attend in the game, Chloe hates the school so calls it "blackhell"!
My favorite thing to do in Astoria is to go to another city, because there isn’t much to do for locals
Haha - to each their own, but unless you’ve been to every eatery in town and explored every corner of the entire town and outskirts I’m sure there are more things to do here. I like getting out of my own city as well though, need ti keep it fresh!
