I’m telling you, you HAVE to listen to Gone With the Wind by Architects. It was written by their former lead guitarist, the late Tom Searle, after he came to the realization that he was going to die from his cancer diagnosis. It is one of the most angst-ridden and emotionally filled metalcore songs of all time and the vocals by Sam on the track are his best IMO.
Architects are seriously top tier. Now that you have done songs from their 2 most recent works, you should check out either Naysayer or Gone with the wind to really see how their sound has progressed since their heavier days. (Also memento mori if you want to cry)
This video footage was taken from their livestream show at the Royal Albert Hall, which was unbelievably good. Hopefully they'll release the whole thing at some point in the future
I just want to let you know that you inspired me to pick up and instrument for the first time since I was a kid. I went and bought a used keyboard for like $30 on Craigslist. I have been practicing for an hour everyday for 2 weeks. It has brought me such joy and appreciation for what musicians do.
Yeah react to both and honestly those two songs should be one episode starting with gone with the wind THEN doomsday after as the story is so tragic and musically moving especially given the back story of the passing of one of their fellow band mates. Please, you can truly feel musically and lyrically the pain associated with the topics they sing about. Have the lyrics pulled up at the time too. It’ll help especially given the aggressive vocal on the track.
More Architects to react to: 1. Doomsday (both versions) 2. Momento Mori 3. Hollow Crown 4. Even if you win, you’re still a rat 5. The entire album ‘All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us’
Dude, when you can listen to a song for the first time and play the melody the way you do on your keyboard brings chills and tears! I could listen all day to you covering songs like these the way you played at the end of this video! Keep Em Coming!!!
I love how much David understands the nuances of what make metal today so great. I still maintain that metal has everything anyone could possibly want in music. These are the “classic composers” of our day.
Architects are fantastic. Been one of my favorites for a long time, glad you're enjoying them. Would love to see some Sleep Token reactions (Jaws, The Night Does Not Belong To God, Dark Signs...hell, ANY of their songs). Enjoy the videos!
For real as a guitarist I am always jealous of the way pianists just flow & seem to have very natural feel to their instrument. The chord change down & then away it goes...was very lovely stuff.
I love your reaction to this, and I love that clear inspiration at the end with the piano. Its amazing how much you can learn about music you love from someone who maybe isn't a fan, but finds the beauty. :) I love how you break these things down.
The Royal Albert Hall really is a magical place, and this song fits right into it the same way Bring Me The Horizon's live performance did at the same place.
To answer two of your questions, it was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall and the drummer is Dan Searle. Great video man. I love how you analyse and deconstruct these songs I love.
I'll make an entire playlist of Music Shed channel for me to rewatch with some of my friends. I love the reactions especially, when you start playing your keyboard. really nice.
I’m loving your videos, you help me look at music from another perspective, you really appreciate every aspect of the music. I’m happy you’re enjoying the new hard rock/metal being put out. Keep it up broheem. Much love 🤘🤘🤘🤘
The piano interpretation at 10:39 is just WOW! I ALWAYS watch your videos until the end and hope to hear your INCREDIBLE piano parts that give me goosebombs. It's really really inspiring to me. Keep going!!!
this song made me SOB on first listen and every single time i listen i get a little emotional. i wish i could listen to this song for the first time again
Your guy's content just gets better and better! For another amazingly composed song I have to recommend Aviations // Outliers, several of their members went to Berkeley to study music
Man that piano shred at the end was absolutely amazing. Awesome analysis! Edit: I actually watched that piano shred like 10 times. I definitely felt it.
I love your videos!! I love the analysis of momentum peaks and valleys etc you make throughout, I totally agree that music should take you somewhere and make you feel elevated
If you're still looking to expand your search to some other bands, there are a few I could suggest that I think you would find to be very interesting to listen to. The top three in a similar vein to Architects would be: STARSET - (I would start with their song called "Manifest.") Celldweller - (I would start with their song called "New Elysium.") IMMINENCE - (I would start with their song called "Infectious.")
Man I’m happy this channel. You are aloooot more fun and funnier to listen to then a lot of the other reactors. (Not to bash them in anyway) but I like how you know your stuff but also have fun with it. As a viewer it’s way more fun to listen to. Subbed!!!
I'm a little late to seeing this video and a little late to finding this song. Seeing your reaction be so genuine and the fact that you were so moved by the song, that it made you play something so beautiful at the end made me instantly subscribe to you. Please keep up the good work and if you're looking for another beautiful, yet heavy recommendation, I STRONGLY urge you to review "Three Fountains" by August Burns Red. That song is full of raw emotion and I hope and think it would have same effect on you. Thank you for being one of the people who show what music is all about and continuing to inspire others, such as myself, on our musical journeys. Peace and love brother!
You are the man. I wish I had a music teacher like you growing up! I’d love to see you react to Beartooths “Devastation” or really any Beartooth! Caleb Shomo is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever seen. Cheers, brother!
Really interesting you picked out the drummer! Dan who is the drummer took over lead songwriting for the band after Tom Searle, his twin brother and guitarist for Architects sadly died from skin cancer in 2016. Now you say it, it would make sense why the song parts are built around the drums; the other major writer is Josh Middleton, guitarist, who joined after Tom’s death. Have watched all your Architects videos as a fan, amazing that you can just pick out the chords and melody and transfer it to piano immediately. Very (jealously) impressed. And yes, Sam is an excellent singer 😁
I’d love to see you covering more artists like this! Like Counterparts! I’ve seen em live probably 25 times, they’re a great group of guys. Counterparts was supposed to tour with Architects the year that Tom Searle passed, so it was understandably (and unfortunately) cancelled.
Doomsday and Hereafter are excellent tracks by Architects that I seriously suggest you react to as well. Doomsday is the last song that Tom Searle got to work on with them before his passing and the majority was written by his twin brother Dan (the drummer). Doomsday is about Tom dying way too young. Hereafter, also written by Dan, is about finally trying to come to terms with Tom’s death and wondering how to move on “hereafter.” It might be my favorite Architects song because of the structure of the song and all of the musical elements within it. The emotion, the angst, and the beauty of these songs is NEXT LEVEL.
Man I love these You gotta check out Ne Obliviscaris. "And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope" was used as a teaching example at Sydney conservatoire as an example of masterful composition.
Please react to "gone with the wind" by them. Incredibly emotional song. Tom (brother of the drummer) got diagnosed with skin cancer and he wrote this song along with the album knowing he was going to die. And this song is pretty much how he dealt with it. Love this band so much. RIP Tom.
great reaction and analysis, when can we expect some unleash the archers reaction videos, i think you will appreciate it so much, Awakening would be a good place to start
i'd like to second the requests for loathe, but i'd also love a reaction channel to cover every time i die sometime. they have a few newer songs out but i feel like map change would be a really interesting one for you to hear
Check out Architects "hollow crown" Everytime I listen to it I'm so impressed it's mostly high hat, some side snare drum and some bass drum for half the fucking song. To stay that steady and gentle on drums with some keyboard low in the background and singing, I mean, you can't fuck it up, you have to be solid. Overall amazing and impressive band. And they tear at our heart strings because a lot of their music was written by a man facing death for years. Every song gets me right in the fucking feels thinking about that dude. RIP Tom..
This was great! I've never heard them before and will be checking out more. I thought it was The Royal Albert Hall, music performed there seems to bring out the best in artists. Unrelated, I would absolutely love to see your reaction/analysis of Steven Wilson's song Home Invasion/Regret #9. That's one of soooooo many Steven Wilson songs that are such incredible pieces of music that he has written and produced. If you have not heard of him, please check him out! The live in Tilburg performance of 'Anesthetize' is a masterpiece and one of the best live performances of a song from a band that I have ever seen. Phenomenal! Have a great day David!
Okay, now I HAVE to see you react to Karnivool! Karnivool - New Day is a MASTERPIECE of a music journey from beginning to end. I think you will have one hell of a time breaking down that song
This song makes me cry every time, and when u went mad on the piano. Tears. If you want another pure emotion like this one I'd recommend Demon King by Brand Of Sacrifice. They're only a small band so not many people will request them, but I seriously think you should check them out

This and followed with their song Doomsday

Going for Gone with the Wind instead of Memento Mori?
Architects are seriously top tier.
Now that you have done songs from their 2 most recent works, you should check out either Naysayer or Gone with the wind to really see how their sound has progressed since their heavier days. (Also memento mori if you want to cry)

The whole "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" album is worth checking out :)
you say you want him to hear how they progressed but you dont mention ruin or hollow crown, suspicious

Please do a reaction to Silence speaks by While she sleeps. Oli Sykes from Bring me the horizon is in it.
Yes. Do it. While she sleeps is completely self made, their own label, makes them that much better
And I need to comment one more thing: I LOVE when you get inspired by the song and let it dominates you, it's gorgeous!
It is!!!

as a trumpet player in another life time the horn line in the chorus speaks to me on a spiritual level.
Ooh! If you liked this, you’d love Bad Omens’ latest album. Also, thanks for the food ASMR to start the video, followed by some insane piano skills!
That entire album is so good! Such a versatile band as well. Agree on David probably loving Careful what you wish for
10:45-11:45 should definitely be expanded into a full song. I would pay so much money for that sheet music. That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
