Norton is a walking logical fallacy...
He is what I call a "science chaser." The problem of chasing science, whether you are a low carber or not, is that science never tells a complete story. Science is theoretical, not absolute, and incorrectly interpreted a lot of the time.
Humans cannot effectively control for bias much of the time.
I see most all science used as propaganda, and evidence to promote an idea somebody already has. Norton is notorious for this...
You have to look at all biological science through an evolutionary perspective, or you are going to miss the big picture.
Science is incomplete, and rarely completely understood, plus it is incorrectly interpreted because people are biased.
Norton is arrogant, and cannot admit he's wrong. We know he is, because everybody is wrong about things.

Especially nutrition since we have a lack of controlled repeatable experiments for ethical reasons

      Well said.

He's mixing ad hominem and ad personam. The ad hominem fallacy is attacking a person based on a category he's part of. Like: you don't understand fat loss since you are not obese.

The false attribution fallacy is used in science all the time, particularly in nutrition. Correlation does not mean causation, but so often people think it does. It doesn’t rule it out, but it doesn’t prove it either. On the other hand, lack of correlation means you can be pretty sure there is no causation. I like his refutation that if something works for me its going to work for you. There is such huge variation between individuals. I believe it gets down to whether you are metabolically healthy on the diet (and lifestyle) you have. If so, don’t worry. If not, explore other diets. Low carb, ketogenic, carnivore are all worth considering. As he points out, you can’t test these diets with double blind studies, so just experiment to see what works for you. Anecdotal evidence is not proof, but it is a good place to start

Adults over 30 need to learn how to use a tissue instead of sniffing loudly esp through a mic

Layne is a shill, he has multiple times said keto and carnivore are a joke.

      Agreed...Layne is a total shill.
He's a babbler who promotes his own supplements line

What’s your point Dr. Norton? I hoped that you have improved. Once clueless, always clueless? Quoting Don does not help. The apple does not fall far from the apple tree.

Thanks for engaging with the low carb community Layne. Always good to examine issues from a range of angles.

Layne is VERY GUILTY of this. After I posted about losing 120lbs... Going Carnivore.
His response: Congratulations... You Ate Less...
This was markedly false. I actually increased my net calories, and my metabolism. I went from sedentary, exhausted, inflamed.
To healthy/energetic. I remember waiting for my bacon to bake. I spontaneously started doing squats. Never before.
But I felt I suddenly had Access to the energy I was consuming. My inflammation was down.
And I learned... Just becoming inflamed would cause me to drop out of ketosis...
But his response really PEEVED me. It took me a year... But it's NOT ALWAYS Calories. I had given up diet soda.
Supposedly ZERO calories. But when I added it back, I STOPPED losing weight. So, there is a LOT going on.
His simplified explanations just annoy me.
And this talk... Really didn't help him clear the record...

He is a major troll. Not sure why the low carb space gives him a platform to be a jerk

He doesn’t believe in the hormone hypothesis, the fact that he keeps using the term calories makes him seem like hes just talking noise. He and his fiends think we are all idiots, as far as im concerned he’s a flat earther.

Can he possibly think repeating a list of logical fallacies we learned back in high school added any knowledge or insight? Maybe he thought injecting his ego would somehow make it more interesting or (laughably) illuminating. Never heard of him before but will be sure never to waste my time again.

3:45 actually metabolic advantage means that LC diets ARE advantageous vs isocaloric HC diets, research has shown it

the evidence is still weak (IIRC 1 good study, that has yet to be repeated by a 3rd party)

I can tell you Ive never been treated more rudely online than by this guy. Funny that his talk is about logic instead of nutrition. I guess he thought his audience was illogical and unscientific.

The fatal mistake of nutrition is focus on calories. Nutrition is more complex and is about nutrients. Calories are a simplistic metric and the one that’s not consistent, accurate, or useful for health or/and weight management. Layne is either dishonest or not as intelligent as his image appears if he does not see that.

Layne’s the kinda guy to keep repeating a big word after he hears it for the first time.
