I think the idea of calories in calories out is far less important than stated here

I have a relative that is dying from autoimmune, inflammation, and lung malfunction with mental issues. Spent 2 hours telling her she can drop the carbs and junk food and this just might save her as she is breathing 02 and out of breath. She picked the junk food and never even started her way onto a healthier future, 😢😢😢.

When you go to war you need pilots, infantry soldiers, tank drivers, snipers, and all levels. To fight a war with 100O generals would be crazy, to fight with all soldiers and no leaders would be crazy. Honestly there should have been several Vegan doctors and several doctors who use Mediterranean diets. These best surgeons don't do studies. The best PhDs who do academic studies don't perform surgery. All Mr. Olympia bodybuilder winners can add and lose weight at will. Yet none are doctors. We must be open minded. We must take a mix of backgrounds, experiences, information and data.

I have a family member diagnosed with high functioning autism. He is now 68. He is somewhat obese. Takes a load of pharmaceuticals. He eats like all the time. Lots of veggies but also huge snacks, potato chips, cakes and muffins and candy bars between meals, which are heavily carb laden anyway. I don’t believe his brain allows him to ever feel full. We can introduce him to foods with high satiety but I don’t believe his brain would signal anything different. He just loves to eat. He loves sugars and carbs. Having listened to Chris Palmer, and MattPhillips, I believe his brain would operate a lot better if he ate more fats, mct oils, and protein, but how you persuade him given his food addictions I don’t know. Satiety is OK if people recognize that they are satiated. Not everyone does!

My son is the same way. Seemingly a bottomless pit. If his diet was completely within my control, he would eat a strict ketogenic/carnivore diet. Unfortunately, it isn’t in my control at this point.

@@laurelmartone73a psychiatrist I know says that you cannot work harder than your patient. He has to want it. My son, who is in his early 20s, was tired of feeling lousy. So he decided to man up, he cleaned up his diet, got on track with good sleep, got rid of toxic people in his life and he is thriving. Mostly carnivore. And just 3 years earlier he lived on processed carbs. He wasn't fat but he was unhealthy.

Calories in calories out may work in scientifically controlled laboratory conditions but has zero practical application. A calorie has no mass, it is a measure of energy. Calories from different foods are not equal. Different calories from different foods are obsorbed differently by different people, some calories are not humanly obsorbable at all. The Massi do not count Calories. I am fit and healthy by any and all measures and have never tried to count calories. It is about time this stupid idea was put back in the cupboard. To coin Dr. Ken Berry's phrase eat a "proper human diet", (carnivour)as much as you like, when you like and the body works as nature intended.

Loved listening to Dr Andreas Enfeldt..but everytime Layne spoke it was SO irritating. It seemed like all he thinks is that a healthy way of eating is all about calories &/or resulting weight loss...no talk about what all of these processed foods are doing to our bodies. I actually gained 20 lbs coming from standard American diet to carnivore - but I have had multiple health issues improved... so 20 lbs is not my main focus right now....my body comp has changed as well. Also...weight is not the#1 indicator of health either. Please be quiet...I can't!

Lifespan: Nice video, but one thing to keep in mind when looking at evolution and stone age activities is the lifespan of the stone age humans. We don't want to blindly copy the stone age human diet without considering their short lifespans. We can see from the lifespan of a salmon that a long lifespan is not the primary goal of nature. Once the salmon mates and lays eggs in a favorable place then nature lets the salmon die. If nature had the same goals for human evolution (designed to reproduce vs long life) then I certainly do not want to do what evolution intended. I want to live a long life!

    • @oliviabaklaton4552
      @oliviabaklaton4552 6 місяців тому

Sorry to say but you got it wrong with lifespan.
Lifespan is not average lifespan. The later includes all people their lived years divided through the number of people.
With 2 people: 1 died age 10, the other died age 80: average lifespan = 45.
Till the invention of vaccation if who survived the first 15 years you could get very old like nowadays.
180 years of ten 10 children only 2 survived the first 15 years.

Sorry Lane, but if genetics is that important to your diet, we are the only species that has such a varied diet. No other animal is like this. I tend to think we all have the same requirements.

    • @britchie7224

There is sufficient variation I think because of geographic isolation that means that some groups of people have different enzyme profiles. Eg lactase to digest milk, ability to process alcohol and sugar.

    75 g of sugar.

Why is energy balance important when there is no way to measure it? Nobody can measure their intake of or outgoing heat (calories). It is completely irrelevant in determining what kind of food matter should be eaten, or how much of it we should eat. It was ignorance that caused the use of it, and compromising laziness keeps it going.
Appeasing certain people through excepting it’s use does nobody any good.
If dietary mass intake as it pertains to metabolic health is the key to controlling our metabolic health, then the calorie is obsolete as an antiquated, irrelevant, and ignorant metric to use concerning dietary “energy”.
It is the very thing that continues to deceive people concerning the relevant and important factors of dietary intake as it pertains to health outcomes.
It flattens the macro lines and equalizes perspectives on all foods.
Dietary macros measured in mass is the relevant metric when speaking on what people should eat, not an unmeasurable heat unit that is irrelevant to the biochemical processes of the human body.
