Yes true, t's how alot of us know it and many prefer ( like my father he likes pie crust, I like both styles of cobbler & i also often add mixed berries w my peaches. My non traditional crazy variation so mine is usually no longer authentic either🤣💯).
BUT , the truth is cobbler literally WAS originally given It's name because it was not made w pie crust! It was so named because of the topping of a dropped spoons of BISCUIT dough ,( usually then brushed w cream or milk, & sprinkled w sugar) that made the dessert look like cobble stone road. There's nothing wrong with people enjoying thinfs differently and having different variations; but it's another to outright deny the actual history /origin of something.
It's absolutely fine that many never heard of it without pie crust or to dislike the biscuit type, BUT that IS it's origin lol.
I guess akin to how what most Americans call tacos & enchiladas are rarely authentic.
An authentic taco is neither a hard crunchy corn shell nor flour tortillas ( with exceptions of say , Baja region inspired fish tacos.) Both true tacos and enchiladas are supposed to be made using fresh corn tortillas. Fried lightly especially for enchiladas. But most Americans have grown up calling wet burritos enchiladas. Many have only known that kind, and that's ok. But they aren't traditional/authentic.

That third cobbler looked and sounded amazing. I do find it odd that Mimi and Grinell noted and appreciated the crunch from using real peaches and a flaky crust yet went with canned peaches and biscuits for their own versions. I love soul food where every element of a dish is made from scratch.
Cause while they like it they don’t want to actually wash, cut, and the peel peaches it’s just more work

I don’t know when this video was filmed, but if you don’t live in the south it can be really really hard to find fresh peaches that are actually ripe anytime out of season, most are hard and crunch and they won’t taste good in a cobbler

right but in terms of wherever they were when they made their batches of cobbler (most likely wherever the production set is, i think it’s either in Cali or NY) I doubt they found good quality fresh peaches to use, so canned is generally a good option. Most people forget though you can buy frozen peaches and they have that same crunch and freshness if you thaw em out and use em. My peach trees are just starting to come back from the winter tho so I know it ain’t peach season yet 😩

Listen, don’t tell anybody I told you this😂….once a year, I buy Patti Labelle’s southern peach cobbler because it has a top and bottom crust. I take that thing home, pop it in the oven, and when it’s done, I scoop out all the peaches because I hate cooked fruit. I eat on that crust, unapologetically, for about 4 days.

I love each one’s interpretation because, growing up in the South, I’ve had each type of crust. Cakey cobbler crust, pie crust, some crumbling like biscuits -it’s a preference thing.
Same, I use biscuits for quick peach cobbler. Mix cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, ginger, and vanilla in with biscuit dough and flatten or semi flatten to line the bottom and pour peach filling. Then top with rest of biscuits.

Sanjra's definition of a cobbler is different than mine. Hers is a pie. I would have eaten the whole dish that Grinnell made, it looked the best. Don't get me wrong, though, I adore peach pie. But this was a cobbler tasting!
Ma’am what is the definition for cobbler 😂 the first thing it says is pie with no bottom with the crust mixed in . THEN it say something about biscuits , which is the overseas/European way. @@donieshahill4226What are you talking about? There are different styles of cobbler topping. I’m used to the cobbler topped with the biscuit/short cake like topping, so that’s my preference, but depending on the fruit you use, you’re going to see one topping preferred over the other. Blackberry cobbler for example comes with the pie crust like topping.
