• My Conversion to Judai...
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

@@insaanietihad-MSB thank you so much for being here!
@@jaroffireflies Great to be here infact a privilege 🙂
Whew! I'm out of breath! Well done!
Great video as always! You talk about your mom alot is a Q and A with her possible!
I can't wait until you change your Intro from a "Mother of 3" to a " Mother of 4" 🤗 I'm so excited for all of you! 🥰
Regarding covering of hair, while she was Muslim, she covered her hair, a coworker of mine from way back took me into the back room of the airport shop we worked at to show me her hair one time after she had it done and it's something I still treasure because I knew it was a gesture of friendship and respect and trust (also, her hair was gorgeous, too). When we didn't have customers, we talked religion and philosophy, so the trust and respect had been established before, but it was a special moment.
As an Orthodox person who has gotten "stuck" on the road when shabbat started TWICE, I want to add that it's important, when assessing the situation, to take into account how safe you feel. In one case, my car broke down on the highway. There was no way I was going to spend Shabbat on the side of the highway - it's too dangerous. And Jewish law puts safety above most of the commandments, so if you have to break Shabbat to be safe, that's what you do. Long story what happened next, but basically I ended up in a taxi to get to my destination. In the second instance, I ended up spending the night in the security station of the Hartford Bus Station. I wasn't in danger -- I shmoozed with armed security personnel all night -- so I didn't feel justified in driving somewhere. But I also didn't feel safe walking home at night. So I waited until the morning and then walked (90 minutes) to my final destination. I went back after Shabbat to get my suitcase.
I did feel weird about that time I took a taxi. It was very stressful. But I didn't feel a need to ask for forgiveness, because it wasn't my fault that my (rental) car broke down. However, I learned from that to double the amount of time I think I need to get somewhere, if traveling on a Friday. I try my hardest not to travel on Fridays anymore.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with that! I really appreciate it and I’m sure others will too 💜
Hannah, the beauty of homeschool (best school) is that kids arent “ truely behind. They just learn at a natural pace instead of being forced to rush through what their brain needs more time with.
Very true :)
Ummm helllloo?!?! 🤣♥️ Lol yes of course we would be interested in a live!
Thanks for another great video, Chana!
LOL Ok :) I honestly wasn't sure because its such a different kind of video :)
@@jaroffireflies totally understandable! I think as supporters of your content, the vast majority of us will cheer you on in whatever endeavors you feel like taking on!

Yes!! Definitely a live video would be amazing!! 😊👏🏻👏🏻
A live!! Yes, please!
What sweet questions your subscribers sent in. This is a lovely channel that’s so positive. I homeschooled three with a baby. It wasn’t that difficult. We just incorporated him into our daily routine. When we started kindergarten with him, his reading level was off the chart just from observation and being around his siblings every day. Of course we all have the bad day or off day. Those days are called “the baby is the lesson.” It teaches both the boys and the girls compassion, life skills, parenting skills and just general life experiences. We’ve had some very serious health issues at our house and it’s mostly my sons and husband who take care of me and my daughter. My sons have sacrificed a lot of their own free will. They chose to do college from home during this tough time we’ve been going through. I don’t think they’d have been so selfless if the baby wasn’t the lesson on certain days. Blessings to you and your family.❤️
Thank you for taking the time to answer all of the questions!!! I am not Jewish, but I find learning about the Jewish people and religion fascinating!!! 🤗
So glad you are feeling better! Thanks for sharing!💗
Great video. And yay, another one next week. Loved that you "one more question " several times. 😄
Always informative and enjoyable!
Hi Chana, Enjoyed this video. I am always liking Q & A’s, it’s very interesting and informative to me 💐🇨🇦🤗.
Thank you for more interesting questions and answers! Glad you're feeling better. Heartburn easier to deal with than nausea for sure!!
Chana, this was a great Q & A video! I am one of those who is patiently waiting for the Mikvah video, I knew you had not forgotten! You look like you have a bit more energy now that your morning sickness has let up some. Thank you for continuing to share your life with us. I know it must be a lot of work and it is much appreciated. I wish you and your family a blessed week!
I love Q&A videos. Also, love we get to go through your journey in this pregnancy.
Fab video Chana. Great to see you so super happy. X
Your question videos are wonderful..I've learned so much💙
Love this video 😍 love hearing all about you and your family. Definitely take a break after baby. You deserve it! We will be here waiting for you x
I love these Q&A videos Chana! Some of the questions I've thought to myself were asked and answered in your video!
....and yes! I would love LIVE!! 💖💖
Hello chana, thank you for this q and a. I learn so much everytime. Greatings annie
Chana I’m so happy for you and your family with a new soul coming. Praying for all the best and much happiness. What a blessed baby to be part of your family x
Thanks Chana, lovely informative video. Glad Bella doing well.
I enjoy your Q&As so much! I just love learning about your religion and culture! You are such a bright and upbeat person!
What great questions people ask! I love your forthright answers and that you keep boundaries in a very tactful way. It’s great learning more about you and your religion as well.
Totally agree with hair covering benefitting hair quality. At the age of 36, I can tell that my hair is better now than when I was a teenager.
Chana, does your natural hair change with pregnancy?
Chana, thank you so much for being you and sharing that with us! As I continue to dig into the Jewish roots of my faith I find myself here often. and every time, without fail, I feel a deep sense of shalom. wholeness. completeness. like little doors are being unlocked in my mind and wow... anyway, I'm grateful that you share what you share here. You have been so helpful on my journey.
So I had the question of "Do all Jewish people ______?" As a friend of mine was married to a Jewish man, I asked this of her. And the response is really amazingly simple. Christians have so VERY MANY sects/variations on how they live/worship. Just as there are variations of Christians, there are just as many variations of Jewish people. Understanding all of those variations is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT thing!
Morning coffee with Chana❣☕ Again, you are simply glowing. Your positivity and smile are so infectious, and I am so grateful... I love these Q & A's... so many great questions! Have a wonderful week - can't wait for part 2.
Thanks Sandra!
Would love to hear from your Mum as she seems so supportive of you and your family, would she be ever interested in being "interviewed " by you on her experience about you changing religion? Love these q&as xx
Hi! at this time I have no plans to ask extended family members form either side to come on to my channel :)
Hi, glad to see you doing better from your morning sickness. When my father in law passed away 3 years ago, he had a female Rabi. Well take care n have fun spending time with your mom. 🌻
Another fabulous video Thank you you have a great effect of making me smile and feeling happy 😃
You are so kind Thank you
What a great Q&A. I so appreciate your willingness to answer all our questions. I am sure that for an introvert they can seem a little invasive at times. I love the craft room’s new arrangement. And I agree that homeschooling with a baby is so much easier than with a toddler. Homeschooling my grandson while my granddaughter was a baby was not a problem. We just worked around her schedule. Once she hit toddler it became a struggle. If we do not get it done while she is in preschool ( she goes in the mornings-half days) it doesn’t get done. She is just too busy for us to concentrate on school work when she is here. Have a great rest of the week! Blessings, as always! -Shawn
Hi Chana, great video! Like to see Mr Firefly cooking skills of other various food for Shabbat, thanks and have a great rest of your day! Sincerely Audreen
Thanks a lot for answering my question! 😊 The whole video was very interesting, as always.
You’re so welcome and thank you!
Hello Chana. I’ve been so busy with work but I am so glad to be able to watch your videos tonight. Have a great evening. ❤️❤️❤️
Hope you are having a wonderful evening too! Thanks for being here 💜

A live would be awesome. I’m so glad to hear your feeling better 😊
Hi Chana! I started by listening to your conversion videos which I found fascinating a drum from birth Jew. I just wanted to tell you that I so enjoy your videos. You are so upbeat, I find myself smiling all the way through. You also answer everyone’s questions so clearly and appropriately! Feel good!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me that!
Texas sounds much like Georgia this time of year. A little up and down and stormy, before it gets HOT! Thank you for the video! :)
Very similar I think. But much less humid :)
Channa you are very wise. Really good answers to all of the questions. I hope you are feeling as good as you look you are blooming. 🌹❤️Ireland xxx
Thank you so much 😊💜
Thank you for answering the mental question! I didn’t ask it, but thank you! I love your videos!
You are so welcome!
Hi Chana: This was wonderful! I didn't ask the question, but, I was thinking how home schooling was going to work with a newborn. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better, and, that you'll have the baby at the hospital. (I should have thought to ask!). Totally get how you'd want to keep parts of the pregnancy more private; you don't have to disclose every detail. We already appreciate all that you share with us. I'm hoping to see your Passover food and some of the preparations..kashering the kitchen, etc. I love all your beautiful traditions. 🤗 YES to a live! Thanks for sharing today; I'm looking forward to your next upload, as always. Stay well! 🙂 Rosemarie 💖
I always love learning more about Judaism. It’s fascinating. I’m also glad you’re feeling better, you look beautiful as always. Tell Bella I said good girl from us. And as far as you doing a life video, I am all for that. That would be amazing, if you ever choose to do one. Much love to you all 💕
Hi Chana 👋🏻

Looking forward to the next Q&A!

Yes for UA-cam live. Love your channel
I think everyone will respect you completely if you step back a little after your baby birthing. It's such a special time, I'm sure nobody will wish to intrude.
Thank you Kerri!
I love listening to your q and a s. . You have such great solid hashkafos!!! :).very balanced nd authentic
Thank you so very much 💜💜💜
Idea for yellow chairs until you find some... 1. Yellow pillow to sit on (on the chair) 2. A yellow fabric from a fabric store and you just drape it over the chair (or sew a simple simple chair cover) Bonus to that one...it can be washed. I also want a yellow chair and this is what I am doing.
Yes would love a live video! That would be awesome. Who will watch the children when you go into labor? As always, I look forward to your videos. Love learning about other cultures and religions. I also follow My Jewish Mommy Life Marion! Thank you for working hard on your videos.
Live video ? Yes ! Dear Chana, wish you Lot of health and energy. Take care please. N
YYAAASSS Live video!
Great video Chana. Have a great day.
Hello Chana, thank you very much for another interesting & informative video! I love learning from you. I'm so glad to hear that medical topics, pregnancy and mental health are all handled with so much dignity in the orthodox Jewish community. Sadly not every religion/faith allows open discussions on those topics or even see fit to establish exemptions, should they be needed. Reg. pregnancy - I read somewhere, that many women nowadays limit the information they give out on their pregnancies. Since many are now able to work from home, they do not even have to share the fact that they are pregnant at work at all (other than with HR), if they do not feel like it. I think it's great they have the choice now. Have a lovely week! :)
Good morning Chana and kiddos and lil one 💕
Hello 😊 and good morning!
I enjoyed your Q&A! I am learning so much about the Jewish Religion.
Chana ..love. Love. Love. Your videos! Thx for making them!!
Thank you so much Trish!
Craft room is so lovely and comforting. Some days you have to just rest, you’re making a whole person lol.
How fun and interesting. Thank you
Great questions and your answers. Always very sweet when you take the time to do a q and a. Would love for you to do a live sometime. It will be crazy but fun😂. Will you show us the baby after you’re home? Newborns are so cute.
Hi Sandy! I will be respecting my baby's privacy the same way I respecting my older kid's privacy. But you can count on seeing some precious tiny fingers and toes I am sure :)
@@jaroffireflies I cannot wait to see Baby Firefly's toesies!!!
Another interesting video...thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
I hope no one takes this the wrong way, like I think you were miserable before lol but were you always such a happy bubbly person? You are always so radiant, do you think that is just your specific personality or do you feel like you found even more sparkle and your spirituality is shining through? I just love your joyful spirit!!
Lol my nickname growing up was Sunshine :) And I was dubbed sunshine as an adult by others too. So I think it’s safe to say that I’ve always been a pretty happy person :)
Thank you for another great video
Thanks for watching!
Such a positive space here in internet world!❤🖤❤
Thank you Cindie!
I know I'm responding months later but I absolutely support you doing a live video. :)
Yes to a possible live stream 😄.
I’m sure you will do great adjusting to the new baby, especially with homeschooling. I totally agree that toddlers are much more difficult than babies!!!! Ages 2-6 have been SO hard on me! Right now I’m enjoying the teenage years more than I do the toddler years! 🤪 Toddlers are adorable but exhausting!!!!
You are great!
Thank you 🙏 I found this very interesting too.
I was not raised orthodox, but just by living life I have absorbed so much about our religion. It’s surprises me how much I do know. But then again I don’t know what I don’t know. There’s always room for learning. We love challah in this household. Speaking of challah, what did you sprinkle on your challah several videos ago?
🌺❤️🌺
I used a seasoning called zaatar 💖
Yes!
Chana, Great video! Great questions! I truly love your twice a week video's but Do hope when you give birth that you will take off time for yourself and baby/family to feel better. We will miss the video's but you come first! As I live in Israel I know the shops here sell Challah for Shabbat. There is regular bread also but Challah is sold in most shops and non religious to very religious eat this Friday/Shabbat day. Many Jews from Yemen will eat a pita/laffa bread on Shabbat. Glad to hear you are feeling better from morning sickness.
Thank you Rochel! And thank you for the info!
Great vlog! Would love to see a live!
Yes definitely do a live!!!!!!
I love your videos. You are a natural.
Love your q and a's! How are your daughter's piano lessons going?
So glad you are enjoying! Her lessons are going great :)
yes please do a lot of videos I enjoy it a lot thank you
Thank you :) so glad you’re enjoying
Hi Chana. What happened with the rug? I ask because you mentioned that you might try it in the smaller room. I think it is a lovely thing to have more privacy around personal situations like pregnancy, especially as you have a public presence. Of course, we are curious from our perspective as subscribers but your integrity inspires me. I am a full on sharer! Ha, ha. I forgot to say that I also love learning things and studying the Bible and doing my other learning helps me to live a good, strong Christian life so It was nice to hear that this is vital for you too. I am totally in agreement on the toddlers thing. My personal faith time has had to move from early morning as she is up early now. Big smile.
I ended up leaving the rug in the living room :)
Would LOVE a live!
I just want to say you look beautiful and glowing but it makes me so happy to hear that Christian families can get along wonderfully with their Jewish families and even have prepared little things like snacks and paper plates available now if the whole world could think like that we will be getting somewhere please have a live after the baby is born so I can see the baby I don’t participate but I like to read everyone’s comments and you have a beautiful family I know the boys will love the little girl just as mush as I will😂😂
This channel is my safe place. Thank you.
💜 thank you! That makes me so happy to hear
I listened while I was showering, i was thinking about asking about if you were going to Mivka before birth but you said you might do a video about the Mivka, exciting thought. Happy pregnancy!
I’m planning to do a video series all about mikvah and related things :)
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Soooo exciting I want to make something too! I am going to get started !
❤️❤️❤️
A live sounds awesome! I would love to participate 😁
I'm close to my dad. I've always been close to my dad. But as an adult I became closer with my mom. Both of them supported me when I found out I had a mental illness. I also have a stepmom and my mom has a boyfriend. My mom and her boyfriend are both non-practicing Catholics, and it makes it really hard for them to get legally married. If there was a common law marriage, they would be married.
You are so pretty and also your wonderful mom love your vlogs
Thank you 😊❤️
I would love a live!!!
I homeschooled older kids with a newborn and toddler! It was so much easier then putting them all in car for different schools. My youngest started Kinder when the oldest graduated high school. It was a long time of schooling. My middle daughter is planning on homeschooling her kids. My oldest says never. Ha. Looking forward to the Mikva video! Blessings
Good morning!
Good morning Cheryl!
Yes we'd love a live
Happy (early) Passover!
Thank you 😊
Love and respect from Portland, Oregon! You know, when I was a young mom, my son was having trouble at the local school - the teacher kept spelling his name wrong, there was fighting before classes in the unsupervised play area, and I felt like he was not being challenged and was at risk of being labeled "learning disabled." I told my mom, and she said "Pull him out of school (1st grade) and get him a tutor." So that's exactly what I did. We would go to the tutor's home once or twice a week, and he got personal attention, and worked on writing with a "sand tray," plus other hands-on methods that kept him engaged. Anyway, I could go on, but I'll just add a couple things:
1. He grew up just fine. He attended several public and private schools, as well as homeschooling (I based a lot of my homeschooling on the works of author John Holt and his GWS newsletter, Growing Without Schooling). When I took my son out of 1st grade, I did it "officially," with an evaluation (had to find a local evaluator, who did his eval in the apartment where we lived at the time). That was so the school system couldn't come in and order me to put him back in a terrible grade school.
2. My son is left-handed, which maybe caused some of his difficulties with writing A, B, C, etc.
3. My son later went to college and graduate school at the University of Portland (Oregon). He got an MBA and shipped out to Afghanistan as a 2nd Lieutenant (Army), and later was promoted to Lieutenant. He's now married and has a daughter.
And a little story about me. Back when my son was getting tutoring (he was 1st grade age), it was summer AND I was pregnant. I remember one time I was sitting on the tutor's couch, waiting for them to get done with their lesson --- and I fell fast asleep! :-O
LOL, I was SO embarrassed at the time! But I was VERY pregnant. You know!
Okay, now for the questions:
1. Are you getting enough rest?
2. What's your favorite "family dinner," and could you share one or more recipes from that dinner?
Love & respect, mazel tov, shalom!
Jenny Westberg, Portland, Oregon
Hi Jenny! Yes I get plenty of rest. Our favorite family dinner is pizza :)
