I’m 15 and i’ll be honest. The visuals of tiana’s are very pretty. But splash mountains music was so much more catchy, and they had something to see in almost every corner. Tiana’s was just a bunch of fake plants and darkness and periodically animatronic moments. Not really any suspense before you get to the top and drop. Overall I’ll give it a 3.5/10, could’ve used a lot more creativity

Night time definitely shines for this ride, so day 3.5. i’ll move it up to a 4 or 5 for night But yeah definitely needs some filling in the empty parts and needs a little more clearer narrative. Storytelling is prime when it has all sorts of emotions, and this one just screams happy the whole time. We definitely need the villain
After watching the bayou a couple of times In my opinion is that they need to add more animatronics especially in the beginning of the ride next add suspense and lastly add more songs

There's nothing wrong with "Song of the South" and a BRAND NEW Tiana Ride would have expanded capacity in the park and given isneyWorld should bethe imagineers a free hand. Its sad what Disney has become, across ALL their properties.. Parks, Films, Networks... Disney World and Land should get to keep half their profits for investment instead of paying for salaries of film and network people bent on destroying their IP.
Splash had so much character! It embodied the old Disney philosophy that no matter which direction you look, there's always something to look at. The new ride has so many depressing dead spots. It really seems as though they struggled to fill the building, so they just stuck some fake plants in certain places and lit them with UV lights.
You can see in this video that’s not the case. Some areas in splash are dark and there’s more detail in Tiana’s in many of the inbetween locations. The animatronics are spread out differently but there’s a similar amount. There’s a few areas of Tiana where there could be some basical animatronics but other than that I think it seems like a great experience 😭
Are you just saying this because you're attached to the original? Because the Tiana overlay is more colorful to look at and there's more detail...

You nailed it. It needed a better plot that would allow them twice the amount of animatronics. I was irritated at the amount of dead spots and the use of projection screens. It screams laziness. Which is a pity, because the animatronics they do have on the ride are fantastic.
What an absolute failure. I was SO excited to see the story of Princess and the frog played out. The shadow man, etc. instead we get this generic "recipe hunt" and a bunch of screens 😭

Yep, Splash is superior as expected.
Okay, I have to consider that Splash Mountain was opened a good 35 years ago. So my expectations for this Tiana update is pretty high. Also, I have never seen the Princess and the Frog movie or know much about what it is about. My first reaction is the lighting is way worse for the new incarnation, and there seems to be areas that feel like you're waiting for cool stuff to come by to look at. Most of the new creatures, technologically, are barely an improvement. I do like the introduction of the new alligator, but the old Splash Mountain wins on creativity. Overall, the new story of Tiana left me scratching my head - the bit before the big fall is now very anticlimactic. The end was pretty well done though, I liked that. For me, I feel they should've kept Splash Mountain and just added to it and maybe updated the animatronics. The update feels like the imagineers were given a brief and did what was required and not much more. Compared to Tony Baxter this attraction now feels a little underwhelming.

The animatronics on Splash Mountain used to look great, believe it or not. Maintenance just neglected the ride after the retheme was confirmed.
Take a look at a POV from about 2015, or even opening. It was great.

Splash was better. Difference may not be as dire as some suggest... but, I suppose.. when you start with the park's most popular ride and make it worse... not exactly a good thing. Maybe they can improve it over time.. it need improvements... lighting for one. Very noticeable how the lighting in Spash allowed for more visual feel of speed.
Someone somewhere identified the main problem are these DEI wokeness departments in corporate HQs.. They exist to find stuff to complain about.. To change. The day they can find nothing else to generate outrage they can be out of those cushy jobs or get moved to a role with real accountability.

My biggest complaint is that tianas just feels so much more empty.
The empty spaces are way more apparent side by side with the old Splash. Hate the lazy screens and boring story. The animatronics are absolutely gorgeous and the finale scene is ok. Honestly I was so excited for this ride but there's just not much to it! It feels so uninspired when the movie's story would have been incredible for this ride. Missed opportunity.
That screen thing is dumb tho. There's barely any and they are all either at place where there was nothing before or it not possible with animmatronic like fireflies.
There is nothing about Tiana that makes it better than Splash.
The wall of vegetables is tacky! Put some vines with fireflies or something there instead . Get rid of the Tiana's Foods redundant sign too. The song at the end lacks luster! No catchy tune which stays with you after the ride.
Splash mountain just had so much detail at every corner it was telling you something new about the story.

Diversity hires at work. DEI is turning out to be the death of Disney. I'm sure Tony Baxter (legendary imagineer and head creator of Splash Mountain) is (rightfully) livid about seeing one of his masterpieces destroyed over nonsense.
@@STSGuitar16Yep. He agreed to be a creative advisor for the new ride, but he ended up backing out after seeing how terrible it will be. He gave his overall opinion. He is NOT impressed or optimistic. He is obviously very infuriated at what they did to his masterpiece of art.
@@applianceman6009 what makes it worse is that Baxter actually directly worked with members of the NAACP specifically to ensure that Splash not only wasn’t racist at all, but to also make sure the ride truly honored the history and folklore of black Americans. The naacp loved the ride as Tony made it. It is a celebration of their folklore, and it was done absolutely beautifully.
If I had to bet, I would say that literally 99% of people (including black people) don’t even know where the characters came from to begin with and don’t actually see the ride as “racist” at all (btw, I can easily argue that the Song of the South movie actually isn’t racist either, so I can expand on that as well if you wish). Guarantee you that 99% of complaints about the ride (honestly I’m not even sure that anyone actually did complain about the ride anyway) came from white liberals trying to be white saviors yet again as if black people are unable to stand up for themselves and have to have a white person do it for them (which in itself actually is pretty dang racist….obviously they don’t have the mental capacity to even wrap their minds around why that is because of their thorough brainwashing and inability to think critically or think for themselves). It’s all just such bs. Demolishing a classic and beloved ride because of 1% of people who may not even exist in the first place is literal insanity. Actual insanity.
And believe me, Princess and the Frog is absolutely my favorite Disney Princess movie and I do think Tiana is deserving of a ride for sure. Turns out, Disney just ended up totally botching the whole thing. So now not only is Tiana’s new ride incredibly sub-par (she deserved much better in a new ride of her own, not a re-skin), they also destroyed Splash in the process.
There are also reports of imagineers gleefully destroying Splash props and animatronics instead of sending some of them to museums or their archives like they’d normally do for a classic attraction that’s getting replaced. It’s all just been thrown out. They have literally destroyed historically significant items because white people are evil or whatever bs they spew. This video talks about all of that.

It is all so incredibly frustrating and I could obviously go on and on about all of this, but I’ll just leave it at that for now lol. It’s just all around insanity and woke bs.
One begins the ride that was once Splash Mountain and finds that all the beautiful animals and their cute homes are gone and replaced with billboards of human commercialism.
One enters the mountain and finds that it is now dark and all the happy animated animals in their bright world are gone, and then one soon finds the culprit, a giant fat crocodile that apparently ate them all.
One follows some dark scary passages and finds an alcoholic old woman blind from diabetes and you fall into her delirium and immediately see her problem in the form of a giant liquor bottle, which leads to her liquor bottles scattered everywhere, even hanging from the ceiling. Then you drop into hell and pass a small party of drunken humans and then the damn nightmare ends and you get off the boat, with nothing memorable to take with you, not even the music.

Splash mountain is a better attraction than Tiana's bayou adventure.
Listen, I don’t wanna be a purist when it comes to rides, and I know that the “general mechanics,” for a lack of a better way of putting it, will still be there. But, I feel like the previous theme of Splash Mountain just made more sense with this ride. It’s kind of like with DCA’s Tower of Terror getting rethemed to GOTG: Mission Breakout. Yes, the ride is still the same mechanics-wise, but the theme of an old Hollywood hotel being haunted and you getting stuck in an elevator just made sense more with it.
I also know that the source for the previous theme, “Song of the South,” was/is problematic, but, if I may be super technical here, the ride wasn’t based on the movie as a whole but rather just a portion of it. Like, when I first became acquainted with the ride, I genuinely thought that the story was just created specifically for it, not that it was based on a film or anything. So, I guess what I’m trying to get at here, is that I understood why they felt the need to retheme it due to the source’s issues, but at the same time, it didn’t really feel necessary.
Idk. Just a bunch of mixed feelings, I guess. I can’t wait for this to open at Disneyland as I do miss the ride terribly (lol it’s my literal favorite at the park 😅), and I hope that when it does, I’ll still feel that magic and excitement I used to feel when it was Splash Mountain.
Splash Mountain was my favorite in Disneyland, but it won’t be back with Tiana because a big part of it was the music and aesthetic. It’s so sad to me that I’ll never have that feeling again.

I hope Disney kept most of the Splash Mountain animatronics and props. I don't see this new one lasting long to be honest. The story telling in Splash Mountain just made the ride more suspenseful. I felt nothing watching Tiana's version. Not that they will ever change it back but I don't see this taking off.
Just heard that all the Splash stuff was destroyed--and that people were cheering as they took Splash apart. Hope this is not true, but several sources reported it.

The source.. some UA-camr.. said even on Country Bears last day they had breakdowns. My fear is that old tech was built to last.. made in USA.. but new tech? Please do another side-by-side comparison when Tiana’s opens at Disneyland in Anaheim. It’s pretty clear that the old ride was better at MK, but here at Disneyland splash mountain was really dark for the last few years and it was hard to see a lot of the things on the ride. Looks like the ride at MK was much better maintained than ours. It’s baffling to me that most of the music is from the princess and the frog film but they didn’t use the story. A retelling of the movie would have been way better.
I like Disneyland’s Splash Mountain much better, so I’m scared of seeing it butchered like this.

For the 1st 2 minutes Tiana's Bayou Adventure has a slight edge in terms of the decorations, but from 1:55 onwards(where the ride REALLY starts) Splash Mountain wins by a mile in terms of everything!

That new one is pretty crap. Remove all interesting things to look at, cover them in fake flowers, and turn most of the lights off to hide how bare most of it is. Also the music got really irritating.

You know that it's clearly evident that Splash Mountain is superior when even the creator muted the new ride and Splash Mountain audio plays only
The audio is stereo, with audio of each version on the side of their respective videos (left audio for Splash, right for Tiana). For mono output (i.e. one speaker, such as on your phone), the sound has to be simplified into one audio channel; in the case where two audio channels are simultaneously playing (like they are here), a mono device will often simply default to the left channel (in this case, Splash's audio).
Wearing headphones allows for both audio sources to play together, which makes it easier to hear both versions at the same time.
The outdoor section is supposed to use instrumental music so there is a bigger impact when you drop into the first indoor show scene and hear singing. The big drop has to play a pivotal role in the story to justify why its more intense than the other drops. The fact that Tiana's fails to understand these little things makes me unfortunately question whether the imagineers behind this project realize that Disney theme parks are meant to be designed as an artform (or if the executives are really limiting their talent way more than we thought they were).
Yeah, the drop in Splash was meant to symbolize Brer Rabbit escaping into the Briar Patch, yet what does it represent in Tiana's? I'm confused on that part.
The second outdoor part of Splash after the first hill wasn’t instrumental, it had lyrics too lol.
While I wish they chose a familiar song for the finale and that they kept a riverboat for it too, I still like the ride music selection and atmosphere overall. But a shame to see a CGI form of the characters on screens when it was the last princess movie to be hand-drawn…
Idk why but what they did with the exterior “How Do You Do” section really irks me in particular (but maybe that’s just cause it was one of my favorite parts). In Splash, it served to set the world up before going into the first big scene. Whereas with TBA, it feels like it’s only there cause they reused Splash’s layout and couldn’t just cut straight to the bayou.
Bright and cheery vs dark and dreary. The new ride lighting is horrible compared to Splash it seems in this comparison.
This really hurts to see, dear god. Splash was my, and many other people’s favorite attraction at Disney World (if not ever). It really, really hurts to see the absolute crimes they’ve done to this mountain.
Watching the side by side comparison, the only thing I can see as an upgrade was the lighting on the outside. Other than that, the story, music, animatronic characters were far superior on Splash Mountain than Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Too dark in some spots, no animatronics in others, too many screens, lackluster story line, and mediocre music really bothers me on this ride.
The loss of this ride is comparable to the demolition of Horizons. Disneys greatest ride.

Its been so long since I've been on Splash Mountain and I needed to watch this video to compare. But wow, Splash Mountain was so creative and unique and looked much better. It had so much character. The fact that the new ride is so dark while Splash is lit up. Disney should've never touched this ride. If they were that interested in making a Tiana themed ride then they should have just made a new one....
I'm confused. It's "Tiana's Foods" as in it's "hers"...but then says: "employee-owned"? Who's company is it supposed to be? So, we are looking for a missing "spice" on the historic Avery Island salt mine? No,..no,..we are actually looking for a "musician" for the band instead in that salt mine? We then get shrunk down by voodoo that we can't talk about...to help us find this animal musician? No, wait!... the last song said we found the SPICE we were looking for in the salt mine....and YOU were the missing ingredient all along? What happened to that musician we were looking for? This thing seems soooo half-baked and NOT very well thought out!

And this is where it really hits on what a contrast between the two rides it’s actually like.
The original felt earned while the latter felt out of place. The original also only featured animal characters whilst the latter included a weird mix of animal and human characters. The original also felt far less crowded than the latter.

The updated scenes on the Tiana ride look great and the projector additions add some interesting visual depth, but there's a sad overall lack of animatronics which makes the ride feel more empty and the absense of tension on the final drop really guts the experience versus the original.
I know disney wanted to erase south song existence but seriously this is best the could do?(technology speaking is a crazyness)

I must admit, though I do agree that Tiana and Frozen should have received their own stand alone rides, as opposed to re-skinning classics. Tiana's Bayou Adventure (after actually riding it), is done better than it appears in videos. And it's a better re-skin than Frozen was to Maelstrom. But again, she should have gotten her own ride.
Comparing these two rides is quite literally like day and night to each other.
Wow Splash was so bright and Tiana is full of dead black spaces. They really F this up.
Splash had so much more depth and contrast through out the ride. New version is too dark, and with too few props and character to understand the story. Tiana's look also doesn't line up with the original story. Too confusing.

This Tiana retheme looks like if Dora the Explorer or Amanda the Adventurer had a theme park ride. To childish no story and it’s just hunting recipes to prepare a party for tiana. It would’ve been better if they added Dr Facilier’s ghost as the villian in the ride. To make the story more unique.

Why was Tiana dressed as a Tom Boy throughout the whole ride? Or did I miss something? Didn’t see her dressed as a Beautiful Princess at all. It’s been years since I saw the movie, but I think she was in the end an Elegant Princess. Is it now wrong these days to show women in pretty dresses, or do they need to always be portrayed as tough, stronger than men types? IDK

Look as a Cajun, splash was better. If you want a ride that represents the South/Louisiana, shouldve stuck with splash. There isn't enough of the old problematic cartoon for people to make the connection

This looks like something universal would have done 20 years ago. No synergy to the ride, horrible music, cheap screans etc.., Disney has officially lost its way.
I dont like screens. The simple fact of having screens mixed with animatronics ruins the experiance. There is no depth no magic at all. In many parts disney use the trick of having darker environments to hide the low quality details. Just like recent movies - dark pallete. The animatronics loooks low quality too. I am really sorry disney went downhill. Dont intend to come back to the parks. I loved SM - went in 5 different years since 1998.

that wall (fence slats) was always there (Walt Disney World) of the flume lift --- In comparison, Disneyland doesn't have that fence / wall.

Its not bad or terrible. Riding it is still fun as long as we have the songs from the movie. The exterior part on Splash Mountain is Equal to where Tiana sits on a log and the exterior have alot more. To look at.

I still don't understand why Mama Odie makes a mountain in the Bayou to throw us into grass
They should have kept Splash Mountain and created a brand new ride for Tiana, not some cheap redo.
Not as charming as it was. Kind of cheap looking too.
Tiana is not even close to Splash with colorful setting, catchy song, vivid animatronics, better story and fun characters. What a bummer!
Splash had a lot of its effects down. It's usually even better than depicted here.
