This woman is the real deal; smart, beautiful, interesting, eloquent and stellar taste in tunes.
Indeed
Frrr i loved this interview🤍
Sooooo true
Facts
She believes in ghosts, so she can't be that smart.
"You could be grounded and still get records" is such a great way to describe the importance that her father wanted to have music be for her.
This woman is amazing.
💯 Agreed
@@SkyNetGeneral-Google her after you escape from captivity.
from FIFA game
I didn’t think I could love Santigold more than I already did. I hope I get to see her live one day 🤞🏼
Samesiez.
I hope you get to meet her. She’s so lovely and sweet.
Her...and Res, they never got the commercial success they deserve. Amazing artists.
Res! She deserved so much better!
Tbh everyone doesn’t want to be super famous and the industry is demonic that why Lauryn hill left lol
Love santigold! Only know one song by Res… they say vision but I loved it
I so deeply value and appreciate Santigold's articulation of awareness at a young age that as a young Black girl, she was "different." Quite often, Black culture will dictate that you must dress in a particular manner, listen only to certain music, and even speak in a way that is approved. When one is different, there is ostracization, teasing, and at times, closed-minded cruelty to contend with. Santigold created music that accompanied my Life during the most transformative, traumatizing, and unforgettable period I've ever known. My gratitude toward her boundless talent and unique presentation is permanently embedded within my heart and mind. 🖤
YES! I related to her so heavily as another black girl who felt different form my fellow black peers. Also from NY too.
Disparate Youth is a stone cold classic, takes me back a decade, damn......
One of my favourite songs, period. "Oh we said our dreams will carry us, and if they don't fly we will run" gets me every time 😊🖤.
The first album she pulls out is a pure masterpiece. I knew she was a good one to watch.
Santigold, the ultimate Selector.
When she started talking about going to the record store with her dad I almost started to cry. The social experience of sharing a place and time with other people who love music and just want to find something else to transport them the way only records can do! I wish I could take my dad one more time.
I saw her when she was Santogold on her first album tour in a tiny club. Still one of my fave shows I ever went to, incredible energy and positivity.
her first album is so good
I love her song with Beastie Boys, Don't Play no Game I Can't Win! One of their last great songs. RIP MCA, RIP Trugoy The Dove, RIP Easy-E🎤🔥
Santigold is such a beautiful artist. I always have her tracks playing in my head.
Love this woman, her artistry and uniqueness.
Now we know why her music is so unique.
Colombian fan here. You fucking ROCK Santigold! Life and Love from SouthAmerica
Santigold is an artist in every sense. Can't wait to see her live.
"My friend Yasiin" like its some just some buddy from way back but its frickin mos def haha
Saw her in concert 14 yrs ago. Top 3 performances I've seen in my life. So great!
I was lucky enough to work a gig at a venue when she was part of a Bacardi tour or something back in 07 or 08? She only performed 2-3 songs but it was so obvious she was a special talent and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I love the anecdote about “Creator” because the first time I played it , my poor dog didn’t know WHAT was going on with those opening vocals lmao
Creator is one of her best songs!
Did you meet her? She’s a literal angel
I worked with her through a company I was with around the time of her first(?) record…and I can attest, she’s super cool. Nice to see that she still seems to be.
huge shouts to augustus pablo! one of the best to ever do it
Bonnaroo 2009, I’m 18, she played in the daytime and it was still my favorite show of bonnaroo 09 and 10. I smoked a joint with a stranger and in return he smoked some hash with me. Those were the days
I would have gladly watched a one hour version of this.
Lady Aicha & Pisko Crane's Original Fulu Mziki Of Kinshasa - new to me, awesome!
I had to check that I wasn't imagining that she was actually already making music in 2010 (when I first heard of her) because she looks so incredibly young. She's only a few years younger than me but looks 20-25 years younger than me! Incredible. Talented artist and seemingly a very cool human being.
Yea and she has like 4 kids
OMYGOODNESS!! Santi!! Still gorgeous!! I went to your amazing concert In Houston at House of Blues with Bad Andrew in HS!!
It was Santigold, M.I.A. and La Roux everyday in mid 2000's!! Still listening to You'll find a way!! Thank you for this QUEEN!!!
Wow that's awesome parenting. Going to a Kuti concert at aged 7. There would been a lot of weed at those shows. Sean Kuti is repping his Dad's work hard. Exceptional picks, classy lady!
I love her, gonna paint an artpiece of her this weekend
shes not santibronze, shes not santisilver, shes santigold man!!! respect
Santigold is so awesome. Took me a few listens for "Spirituals" to click for me, but once it did, I loved it like all of her other albums.
I've been watching this channel for a couple of years. Many of the featured artists I do not know. But what they all have in common are interesting music choices. It's always a rewarding experience.
I freaking adore and respect Santigold mightily!
I knew this one would be good. I got a few must listens added to my list now. Thanks, Santigold.
Karma is a masterpiece, can never say enough good things about it. 3 Feet High and Rising and Striaght Outta Compton are certified classics. R.I.P. Pharoah Sanders, Eazy-E and Trugoy the Dove.
I've discovered Santigold around like 2007. And that was during a pivotal music period in my life. Before then I was either watching music on TV, listening on the radio or going to the record shop.
But after 2006 I was getting into being on music blogs, I was a huge music magazine buff and of course youtube first was created around that time too. I'm pretty sure like the other artists I was discovering at the time like M.I.A, The Cool Kids, Pac Div and such.
I think Santi gold, I had first heard of her in some magazine I had picked up during that era. It was such a more simpler time back then, and when you discovered someone new it felt so special.
I had the amazing opportunity to see her in concert at the Highline Ballroom with Estelle and Gnarls Barkley. Unforgettable. She is so unique and beautiful and talented. Thank you, Santigold.
Great collection of sounds
Give her these 🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌻🥀🌼💮🪷🪻⏳🎴
I still have so much damn nostalgia for hearing Unstoppable when i first rented NBA 2K10 when i was a kid. Didn't know who the weird woman was but also couldn't explain why i liked the song so damn much 😂. But every time I have a nostalgic memory of that game, i automatically think of hearing that song while playing the draft combine
I love learning about the music the influences other music folks cuz you ready can a sense of their style and how they incorate that into their own music. Santigold one of my FAVES and having listening to her discography so many times, all of these make sense to me. Once again, Santigold is a huge inspiration. I believe in Santigold
I love santigold so much. I need to pickup her albums on vinyl. Thanks for the reminder
santigold looks amazing for 46! like she must be sippin from the fountain of youth frfr
Holy shit I’m in love. And those beads and that voice are an ASMR trap.
So excited i get to see her in San Francisco in June 🥰😍🥰😍 we love Santigold🥰🥰🥰
She had such an enriched upbringing, it's like she grew up as an culture-billionaire
That is such an incredible and memorable phrase, "culture- billionaire..."
As soon as I heard Santigold I was hooked, she captures such a specific feeling for me, youth, warmth, city lights twinkling up through the base of my spine God I know thats corny but I love her
African Head Charge! ❤❤❤
LOVE SANTI TO THE SKY!!
oh i love her even more, deep, smart and does not even remotely try to blend in with the stereotypes. does not need to look sexual to be interesting. i truly, truly love her i think i would pass out if i see and talk to her in person
I feel the same about horror movies.. I'm ok with the ones that don't stick with me..a counselor once told me that your subconscious mind doesn't know it's not you in the movie leading to those sweaty palms, heart beating, etc. Your subconscious mind also remembers everything it's heard throughout the day... it's hearing the conversations in the background, lyrics, and etc..when your winding down your brain starts to syphon all the info you've heard consciously and subconsciously. She told me this to help me realize I indeed have control of my mind when it feels it's spinning out of control 💜
A tour with Santigold and Saul Williams would be dope AF!
i was so in love with her as a teenager, also still to this day tho
Haven't heard from Santigold in foreveerrer. So good to see her gain.
Used to love her and m.i.a back in my very early college days. 😎✌️
Damn, I was not expecting her to pull out Pharaoh Sanders and reference Leon Thomas! I’m impressed. You can tell she was raised by record collectors.
She just exudes coolness
Great episode, she is such a legend!
Santigold is a huge inspiration to me and one of my fave musical artists of all time. It’s funny that she says she can’t watch horror films and that ghosts don’t show up for her because they know she’d be too scared to see them… I say the same things about myself 😂 Thank you for this. I love her so much
My faves: De La Soul, African Head Charge, Fela: and therefore why I like Santigold's music!
Saw Santigold at NXNE Toronto 2019.
Lovely lovely! Practically perfect in every way!
Girl just blew the bank at the record store. I love her.
Awesome, so much insight into the unique aspects of her sound. Even the awesome bad Kate Bush impression.
so good i had to watch again. … i also love these picks…
shes a beautiful soul. amen.
would love to meet someday. God bless ya.
everyone.
Placing the Augustus Pablo album Rockers in the bag at 0:09. Plus Kate Bush, great taste
Been in love with Santi's work since age 12. It all started with Res's "How I Do" album, not knowing she wrote it at the time
no wayyyyyyy.. thanks for telling us! 'they-say vision' has been a favorite since childhood.
When I found out Santi and Martin "Doc" McKinney (exec prod for the Weeknd's Starboy) were behind Res's hit album, I was FLOORED. I only learned of Res back in 2019 and had been listening to Santigold since I was in the 3rd/4th grade (Mtv put me on ngl). So, finding out one of my fav artists collaborated w/ a new fav of mine on their debut felt like a full circle moment.
Santigold, my word...
Love Santigold! Her music is so interesting ❤
Fan since the Santogold days ❤
This is my favorite episode so far. I love your music but knew nothing about you. Now I do. Gonna play your music and drink some rum now❤

She’s so awesome. Love her track with the Beastie Boys.
Santigold!!! Loved her since the beginning. Hope I get to see her live one day!
Santigold, you're so awesome please tour Europe again, especially Hamburg Germany
Love this so much. Especially the Pharaoh Sanders x Leon Thomas part. My dad was a huge fan too. Whenever I reminisce over him I listen to “Song for my father” RIP DAD 🥲🙏🏼
Oh my gosh.
i LOVE Pharaoh Sanders!! That album in particular.
“The Creator Has a Master Plan” . .. that 32 minute opus is pure gold!
As a big fan of NWA and Santigold, her picking Straight Outta Compton spoke so much to me! Respect her even more as an artist!
Thank you so much for this. Santigold is ALL time favorite. I love seeing her. Great to learn she has a podcast 💗💖
I love that Santigold isn't a stereotype. She's cool.
This made me Love 🌸SantiGold🦋🍄even💛more🎀
My friend owns the Hitchock family house in VT if you ever want to see it. Desperate Youth is an all time fave. Thanks for showing you're influences.
What a lovely kind soul and such diverse selections
Good picks AND she's wearing a Bauhaus shirt? RESPECT
Def one of the better WIMBs. Love her
This young lady right here has very good musical tastes even though I've never heard of her but I'm going to check her out and see what her music is like specially after looking at the music that she listens to especially that jazz!👍💯
I think I’m in love with Santigold
santigold with a bauhaus shirt? so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Love How She
Got Books, Too !
She's such a fricking gem
Thanks Amoeba and Santigold
LEGEND!! Her music was the soundtrack of my middle school days way back when. 😩
I was unfamiliar with Santigold, and when I saw her at the beginning of this video, I assumed she was 30-ish. Then she talked about when De La Soul's first album came out.... wait, what?! I looked up her age, and she's 46 🤯! I know Black don't crack, but she looks *amazing.* Really enjoyed her storytelling and general vibe. Gotta check out her music now.
Great episode. Love my punk rock girl, Santigold ✨
needed this. thanks.
If you ever have a chance to see her live -- GO!
Exciting I so love Santigold and her amazing work😊
Beautiful haul, Santigold!
I love Santigold ♥ And yeeah, Yasiin & her are friends. My god, i would love to have a tea with them and listen to music.
Santigold now has a new fan. That was so interesting.
