I had never heard of this fellow until I stumbled across him playing my old favorite 'The Entertainer' , now I can't get enough of him. I live alone with no Tv, radio or newspapers only you tube ☺
I had the pleasure of seeing Richard open the first hour and then Tommy for 2 more hours about 5 or 6 years ago in Fort Myers, FL. It was a life changing night. On my way home I told myself I am either going to learn fingerpicking or smash all 3 of my guitars. Still have and still play my guitars and practice my fingerpicking everyday
What a jam. My grandad played violin, piano, all sorts, big bands in the 1920's. He would gather us up on new years eve, grandkids, and tell us stories how he met our nana, music stories, and just before midnight he would play a special song for our nana, around the fire, down by the river, at our marae. Maori community, New Zealand.
I spent a few days with Richard at Tommy Emmanuel's Scottish Guitar Camp last year. What a great player, and so open and friendly. We all learned so much from him. Wish his work was more widely known as he's genuinely one of the very, very best fingerstylers out there. If you get a chance to see hime live, grab it.
Just wonderful! Reminds me of being a small child in the late 1950s listening to Stefan Grapelli coming through the wooden fretwork radio on dank Autumnal days in Cheshire. Thanks, Guys.
I saw Richard play solo at the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Festival about ten years ago and was awestruck, and this quartet is incredible. Truly magical music.
What a fantastic session! Richard Smith and every player in the group, articulate and talented. And how about Florian Cristea on violin! I wish they'd record a CD.
Richard Smith has that unique quality , like Louis Armstrong or Django Rheinhart to just put a smile on your face. Thanks Richard you inspire me to pick up my guitar and have some fun.
I am glad you mention Louis Armstrong.. One needs to understand, these great performances, are for the most part, one-off events. Everything just clicks, after years of practice, playing, and performing. The performance in the above video, is just like that, a one-off. Here's a one-off by Louis Armstrong in 1955 performing Jack the Knife. Amazing! ua-cam.com/video/Nk2YpWo2_Zs/v-deo.html
Why oh why would anybody vote this down . Sublime playing . Subtle , relaxed and generous musicianship, from a group of very talented gentlemen , who are sharing a moment of bliss.
Beautiful! All acoustic. Love it. Who needs amps, pedals and a bunch of electronic equipment when you have players who can make their acoustic instruments sing.
Mr. Richard Smith: Ever since I saw you playing "The Entertainer," watched with affection by Tommy Emmanuel, I became your fan. You play very well, just like this wonderful Bina Coquet Quartet. I'm going to see you and all the Quartet, a little more. Regards, Otamar de Carvalho Brasília-DF, Brazil
Fabulous.... Richards new nickname is "Metronome" very nicely done chaps...all very talented.... and please folks dont forget the bass player... he holds it all together... for sure...
Guys I love you! Richard and Florian play really fantastic and have a truly contagious smile. Bina is also good but I don't understand why he never smiles...
I love this swing feel and the combination of bass, guitars, and violin. Very nice. Richard, I hope to see you again sometime. Where have the years gone? You are my hero. Bob Wallace Salt Lake City, Utah
I love how pleased they all are with each other at the end, and rightly so. This is a timeless performance that will be played again and again, and, enjoyed a thousand years from now. Kudos, guys. My only regret is for all the performers and composers of the past who never got to hear this masterfully sweet masterpiece. This is great art.
Masterful talent! Plenty of room for errors when everyone is unplugged and going at it purely acoustic and yet no mistakes just amazing harmony, improvs and perfect tempo and key!
Adding orchestral instruments makes a guitar performance more entertaining, and it gives a violinist and double-bass player opportunities other than playing classical music in an orchestra. Really nice to see true talent.
Everytime I watch this it gets better, I don’t know if it’s the musicians or my listening, either way I love it
I had never heard of this fellow until I stumbled across him playing my old favorite 'The Entertainer' , now I can't get enough of him. I live alone with no Tv, radio or newspapers only you tube ☺
I think you would enjoy listen to otherguitar players on UA-cam such as Terry Robb and Isto
Saw him live with Tommy Emmanuel... Incredible.
Dude same 🤣
You Tube fits the bill for just about everything.

I'm impressed with the violinist. His timing is impeccable.
Richard Smith is one of the greatest guitarists on the planet --period-- The guy on the violin is FABULOUS !!!
Chet lives on through Richard.. Bloody brilliant
Just when you thought you heard some perfect music, these guy's turn up 🙂

Every solo is so tasteful and melodic. Fantastic performance by all. Seen it 50 times... will see it 50 more!

I could watch and listen to these guys forever. Anyone who loves music this much are good people 😊
Watch them do Paganini in gypsy jazz style. That is superb.
Such a great sound! I love it!
Richard makes playing look so easy. He is a master for sure
This video deserves more views and thumb-ups.
My sentiments exactly. 55 sad people out there.
Fantastic. It takes me long time ago. Excellent
Sorry...it take me back loooong time ago.I.m 84 and feeling like a yung girl again 😂😍😁
Just wonderful! Reminds me of being a small child in the late 1950s listening to Stefan Grapelli coming through the wooden fretwork radio on dank Autumnal days in Cheshire. Thanks, Guys.
Ha Ha! Me too. Except I was in Salford - requests played on "Down Your Way". First time I heard Stefan & Django.
Couldn't be more perfect, love this music, I'm in heaven listening to these guys
Some bands are tight, then there's these blokes. Classic tune well played.
I saw Richard play solo at the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Festival about ten years ago and was awestruck, and this quartet is incredible. Truly magical music.
The Chet Atkins riff in the end is always so beautiful
I have never heard these guys before. Absaloutly brilliant. Gonna follow them. I was nearly in tears, still like Joe Brown singing it though.
Richard Smith is pure class. That guy is a generational talent. Surely he would have been dubbed a CGP by Chet.
He was!
What a fantastic session! Richard Smith and every player in the group, articulate and talented. And how about Florian Cristea on violin! I wish they'd record a CD.
😂 ❤ thats true 🎉

Florian Cristea is a wonderful violinist. Great performance overall by Richard Smith and the Bina Coquett Quartet.
Yes, he is great !!
Agree, violinist very very good.... ....!

A delightful ensemble.
I've heard hundreds of renditions of this song. This is arguably the best. No offense to the late great Chet Atkins, but these guys are good.
That was delightful
A great group of geniuses!!! Very low-key, subtle kind of guys.
Excellent co-ordination
It don't get any better than this, wonderful rendition of this tune, thanks guys..

In my opinion Richard is the best Guitar player out there today.
And a year later, it's still WOW from me!
Love this, keeping the hot club alive.
