    Thanks for the tutorial. The other tutorials didn't work for me in replacing the line because I have an older model and none of the line up markings on theirs. I could see that there was no way to feed the line through the head, that the spool needed to be threaded before putting the cap back on. This tutorial showed me the right way to do it. It was a little tricky getting the line to stay in the center notch for the first rotation, so I squeezed the center of the doubled line to take some of the bend out of it. After struggling with it for two days this tutorial made a quick job of it.

    Thank you so much for your video. I just purchased the newer Ego trimmer with the manual twist line replacement mechanism and could not figure out how to advance the trimmer line. As a novice to lawn maintenance (just let go of my lawn service), this was not an intuitive process for me and other videos did not express just how to fed the line out, the way your video does. I actually tried depressing the fed button and pulling the line out manually (hope I didn't ruin the line feed... lol). I also purchased the Ego self-propel lawnmower and I love it. You have been a great help for a beginner lawn maintenance person.

    Thanks for the up close video of the trimmer. I have an old Werk, when dead the Ego will replace it. Now I mow with Ego 21 self propelled with 7.5 amp battery and also the 14 inch chain saw. By the way, just a suggestion, the plastic bumper will last longer if bumped on grass or soft dirt. I know you did it on the patio for demo purposes to show the advance of the string Later

    Nice job. I have the hinged shaft model that is maybe a little newer. The manual says one can install 15' of string in it and to leave one end a little longer -- I think because that end has to wrap an additional half revolution to its notch after securing the other end.

    Thanks for sharing this video. I bought one of these over the weekend, it appears as they have changed the bump head and how you thread significantly. Now you have to thread through a small hole instead of sliding in...I still need to figure out how to re-do the string, because mine ended up shortening and not feeding.

    I have a weed eater like that, and I removed the entire head to get some long grass that was binding up the head. Now I have a problem where the head is too lose where it rattles alot then possibly falls off, or it's to tight and it doesn't spin right and might over heat .
    I'm not able to find anything about that so any info is great

    I have a heckuva time getting the line to feed. Shouldn't take 10 taps to get an inch of string out. I find that by pushing the head down on a hard surface and pulling the EGO head toward me and then away from me (keeping the head pressed against the ground) the line feeds out promptly. Wears out the head quickly but I don't risk patience and shock damage on the motor head with slamming the head repeatedly.

    Helpful! I own the mower, blower and trimmer. Have had issues with the line advancing on the trimmer too. Amazon has the blades and since I have no tools to sharpen, am just going to buy a new blade and a screwdriver. Are these trimmers oak to use on thistle bushes. The videos just show grass being cut, not fields with weeds and sticker bushes.

      Hello Peggy - I guess we can call you an EGO maniac! Don't worry about using the trimmer on thicker brush - all that will happen is that you will go through more line - here's a video demoing the power of these trimmers - ua-cam.com/video/83zBPRKDyuM/v-deo.html

    • @Kitearmy
      @Kitearmy  5 років тому

      That is a good question - turns out that line gets old. Make sure you are using new line from the store. If so, and you use the line equally, you can replace when you get to the end (meaning use it all up)

  • @FenderSchonJPX

    Thanks, damn you made it easy. WAs going to upgrade to the 15" model because you can't by the preloaded lines anymore unless you want ot pay $25 to some third party that filled the gap Ego did by abandoning the model. Problem with the 15" models is no Edger guide and the guard is smaller so I hear reports of people getting hit in the face with all kinds of debris.
    No idea why EGO made the 15" models better in some ways and worse in others.

    • @Kitearmy

    I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

  • @davejoe2592
    @davejoe2592 5 років тому

    A few suggestions if I may. Firstly, you should always wear some sort of eye protection when using a trimmer as they send all sorts of shit flying, especially when tilted up in the edging position. Secondly, it is probably as wise idea to remove the battery before doing any sort of work on it to make 100% sure that there is no way for it to start up whilst working on it. Lastly, I doubt that the way you like to grab that head as it's still spinning is a good idea either. I get it man, I do stupid shit like that all the time. Hell, I went up on my roof to clean the gutters in my flip flops and I was higher than giraffe pussy at the time too but I didn't post it on youtube either. Just sayin'.

    take the guard off and you can have an 18" cut. no need to sharpen anything.

      more than 18 and you are flirting with thermal overload on the little motor.

      Great tip (Great video too Kite) ...so we dont really need the guard then ?

      travac yes you need the guard. I have the 15 and the 12" trimmers now. The 12" model will power down to half power if you bump out more than 12" . I guess it senses the extra load. you can run it without a guard as long as the line is not more than 12. I haven't bothered to try the 15' without a guard.
