Having the same experience. Like the trimmer. HATE Line IQ. Found this searching for a potential replacement head.. unfortunately like you heard its not an option. Shame as otherwise would be a great trimmer.
If yours is still having trouble feeding line, check out this more recent video of mine. I was able to fix the problem I was having. ua-cam.com/video/EB1b1iCOp84/v-deo.html
You did not need to remove the 4 torx screws. In fact, it is better not to. That little spring tends to pop out and it is a bit of a PITA to put back in. Just remove the half inch nylon/steel nut, and wiggle the head off the spindle.
Good point. However, I was trying to figure out how the Line IQ feature works, which involves that spring. This video ua-cam.com/video/EB1b1iCOp84/v-deo.html shows me changing that spring and making Line IQ work much better for me. You are correct though.
Does any know how or where to order the string auto-winder switch on the ST1620T? It is not on the parts diagram and there are no videos or write ups on it that I can find. Thanks!
Good video. I also do not like the line IQ. 90% of the time the string is too short and then it will shoot out and give me a good amount of string for a minute or two. I would like to place the whole head with a, different manufactures speed bump head. Could this be done and could you do a video on how to do that?
I have a video here ua-cam.com/video/EB1b1iCOp84/v-deo.html that shows how I recently improved the line IQ, using a lighter spring than the original. There's also this vid where the guy says you can change the head but doesn't explain what the replacement head is. ua-cam.com/video/GgFdZcbQXkw/v-deo.html
@@LarryCook1960 Ok, Thank you for the video! EGO customer service told me NOT to replace the Line IQ head with a brush blade b/c it will void the warranty but I don't want to make another expensive purchase but so I may try to see what happens. I'll report here after. Thanks again.
Have had mine and used about 5 times..now I can use for about 5 min then it lets out ALOT of line and it wrapped around d the shaft of the weedeater I am using g the correct recommended string. Have to take it all out reload and then it happens again. Super frustrating !
Anyone can respond..... Would you recommend this EGO Trimmer or a gas trimmer? Is the battery and this IQ thingy just too much of a hassle to deal with? Thanks very much
After changing that spring, as shown in the video linked below, I like it a lot and recommend it for anyone cutting normal grass. The build quality and battery life are impressive. I feel it's equivalent in power to a homeowners quality curved shaft Stihl I used to use. The vast majority of people don't seem to have a problem with the Line IQ, like I did. ua-cam.com/video/EB1b1iCOp84/v-deo.html
I would recommend the ego 100 times over the gas trimmers! I just gave away 10 old gas trimmers. This can do all the jobs they did, less problems, no fuel mixing or pouring, no pulling ropes, no hot engine by my arm, easy to start, always starts by pulling trigger, really problem free, easy to load string. My favorite tool for the past 3 years! Get the good one - not the cheap one.
Wait for that plastic keyway to wear out. They have to replace the entire motor as ego won't supply that small plastic part separately. Fine while under warranty but afterwards it will cost you as much as the trimmer to fix. Ego are a horrible company with products that are designed to fall.
You are right I just noticed mine was damaged after taking apart, it looked very worn almost melted from normal wear and tear. I tried to look for a replacement and nothing.
I just told someone the other day that Ego was the best piece of crap weed whacker I have ever bought. I love it while it works but then it doesn’t work. I have four Ego pieces of crap weed whackers that no longer work and 3 blowers. No service center for warranty. I’m done.
I had the same problem with DeWalt. I did not got a refund, not even offered one. They fixed it under warranty, the only problem is it took them more than 3 month, all summer...shame. Sold all of my dewalt tools 😂
Thanks mate really appreciate that you have done this teardown😁

There is a video that shows how to swap the line iq for a bump feed head.

I always have a problem power loading which is disappointing, considering the price.
Can we replace the IQ head with a 9 inch Forester Brush Blade? THANKS!!
@@hugorojas1452 I wouldn't know. The threaded shaft is 1/2" as I recall, or perhaps 12 or 13 mm.

That's gotta be annoying. Maybe yours has some grass inside the head totally screwing up the mechanism.
Is the nut a reverse thread?
@@paulpalermo2109 Nope. Standard right to tight, left to loose.
Is it possible to install a brush cutting blade on these by removing the head?
I don't know what's involved for a blade. Sorry.
Will the Line-IQ function still work without the guard attached? Cheers from Brisbane Australia.
By "guard" do you mean the big plastic piece that cuts the line when it feeds out?
Yes that's what I mean.@@LarryCook1960

Used it for 3 hours with my 12ah battery. Max high speed. Then it spit out the wire and the motor died. Returned it for full refund. .
Today I talked to the dealer I purchased mine from, and he's heard from 3 other customers who said the line didn't feed properly.
Ego products are designed to fall. They're terrible

Total crap. Ego needs to copy the Echo feed head or use Echo's Power 400 head instead that garbage.
