  • Ableton Trap beat production step by step tutorial for beginners, by Reid Stefan. All you need to make a full drum loop is one MIDI channel in Ableton. Impulse is the perfect tool for laptop producing without a MIDI keyboard because they align with middle C on your keyboard. This is the quickest and easiest way to produce hop hop heats or any style of music :)

    So I've got into the habit of saying "It's Production Time!" with the puppet before each video and this time he got me, wasn't expecting to run out of breath. Well done, puppet

    Hey Reid! Can you do a tutorial (I guess more of a theory/workflow thing) on finishing tracks? I always find myself writing one or two sections of a track and then getting stuck hitting repeat on those for ever. Would love some tips on actually finishing them.

    Instead of duplicating your stuff eight times, you could create eight audio channels then choose: audio from - impuls - desired sound. Still have the advantages using Impuls as a whole and processing the individual sounds apart.

    I'm watching this trying to figure out why one would use Impulse over Drum Rack.. Other than that "stretch" feature in Impulse, what does it have over Drum Rack? You can't even use a MIDI drum pad controller with Impulse

    You the option for creating Audio Tracks for Impulse, then route them. Not to cool to do it every time you're inspired, So what i do is create an empty Impulse track + 8 Audio Tracks and save it as Default Set in "Preference".

    Great tutorial and really well delivered. What I've never understood is why would you use this over drum rack? You said about splitting each sound up onto individual impulses to get the single mix channel but that just seems like a load of work to do when DR already has that setup and provides the same facilities?

    I am going nuts trying to control Impulse via my Novation Launchkey Mini.. It works like a dream with drumracks or any other instrument in Ableton.. But I can only get Impulse to sound using my computer keyboard. I can see the midi signal on the impulse track, and I have my input settings in order. But I just can't control individual Impulse sounds via any MIDI controller. Should I even try to keep troubleshooting this, or should I just forgo Impulse features and use only drum racks from here on out now that I have Ableton Suite and a MIDI controller? :) :(

      @@ReidStefanMusic hey Reid thanks for all you do, very helpful. Have you heard or experienced issues when writing beats in midi browser with a drum rack (not tapping). The velocity is set to 35% by default in every simpler window and volume to -12. The issue is when you’re writing beats in, the attack is softened tremendously even when you raise volume up if you leave velocity at 35%. Of course when you’re tapping beats, lower velocity range is great, but this was a huge issue for me that I finally figured out: to get your one shots to sound identical to how they sound if you were to drag into an open audio track (full level), setup a drum rack where all velocities are at 100% and leave volume at -12db. I think a video about this would be very helpful because I can guarantee that thousands of people are making beats by drawing in and not realizing their samples are being compromised. ✌🏻

    yo question about impulse -
    Is there any way I can add audio effects (such as EQ) to the impulse track and have it apply to only one drum hit?
    I enjoy using impulse but it bothers me not being able to EQ my drums as I go.

    • @ReidStefanMusic
      @ReidStefanMusic  6 років тому +1

      the only effects you get to apply are built in to impulse (Filter, distortion, Time Stretching)

    • @cleveo7693
      @cleveo7693 6 років тому +1

      butttt as he said at the end of the video you can duplicate and isolate the instrument you want to apply effects to
