One of the following options: 1. He liked the cat and will treat it well but couldn't afford the adoption fee. 2. He knows the previous owners of this cat in some capacity and is 'taking it back'. 3. Dog bait. I have 5 cats of my own, love all animals (including dogs). I worry about this cat. Im UK but still it happened when i bought my little (then) kitten: "They offered me a grand as a dog bait supplier." The woman said. She wasn't the nicest individual either and didn't care at all about my Scarlett. Now 8.
I suspect it's someone who wanted that particular cat as a pet. The fact that they seemed to know which cat they wanted sounds as if they had their eye on her for a while. To an abuser, all cats would be the same.
This is exactly why theses cats should not be left there overnight. It has now happened 3 times. Rescues better wake up and not leave their cats there unattended.
Well come on Petsmart, roll the tapes. He'll be on there within the last monthfew months I bet checking her out. Maybe alone, but most likely with a wife/girlfriend or kids.
Out of all the street kittys that need a home, stealing a cat from an adoption center is ridiculous. If the cat is not returned, I sure hope it is going to be taken care of.
Honestly the way things are right now with crime soaring everywhere, I'm not at all surprised that this person with no morals or values would steal the cat. I think store owners need to realize that they need to have good security and that goes for any kind of store. I'm not sure how this guy was able to avoid being detected while he destroyed the cat's cage and then took the animal out of the store. That tells me they have ineffective security in their store. Maybe this incident will change things.
Of all the things to do, Rob a cat that’s up for adoption. When I was a teenager we got a few Pound Puppies, they were much looser in the 1970’s, they didn’t require nueturing or vaccinations and of course chips were Sci-Fi stuff. All of our dogs have been chipped since the early 90’s. Haven’t chipped my cat, he’s completely indoor only. I totally agree with today’s standards of nueturing and vaccinations and microchips.
I actually chipped my indoor cat in case she goes missing (she keeps wanna get out but if your cat doesnt wanna the chip probs isnt needed) gives me peace of mind

175 dollars to adopt her? She should be 50 or less. If yall wanna give these cats homes they need to be cheaper. I mean the vet bills will already be enough expenses you'll be spending on.
I don´t believe that she was stolen for a bad reason, people who have something bad in mind can lure for cats outside without risk to get caught on camera or get caught in general. For me it looks like this action was planned because of especially this cat. Maybe someone thought the found he long lost childhoodpet, cause she exactly looks like it? If it was commercial or evil action more cats would have been stolen from several shelters around. But isn´t that also a case for the police, to find that dude? It can also be that this is a case with authism, dementia or something in that direction, so she/he is wearing his "gown" all the time as in the end the cat was not very good covered - bystander might have thought buddies are on the trip to the shelter to find a third buddy. I really thought now 20 minutes about a motive, and that is the only plausible thing. Even someone who needed fast money would have had better "job-options". The last idea: Who gave her care before? Maybe someone felt betrayed and stole this soulmate why no longer able to work with her. (the cat looks nosy instead of afraid from the position of the head, so maybe she knows that person).
How the heck did they get in? All the PetSmarts I've seen have the cats behind plexiglass windows. The cages can only be accessed from inside of at least one and often two locked doors.
Not all of them are that way. Some just have the cats kind of in an aisle so people can interact through the cage. Usually someone is there the whole time though…
@@angelachouinard4581I definitely agree. I hope this kitty is safe and found soon… but this sort of thing should not be allowed to happen. Stay safe out there too. Freakin world is crazy.

What are they going to do with my cat? Well it wasn’t your cat. Secondly, shouldn’t someone from the agency renting out these cages be there at all times? Where were you? Why did you post on social media first instead of immediately filing a police report? I’m not for stealing anything, let alone an animal. But frankly I’m not crying for this person either. There needs to be better security and more attentive workers watching these animals. You are partnering with a store, you need to be aware of the potential of theft. The fact that this has happened multiple times is a problem and it shows a lot of slack happening with the store AND the agency. Everyone is at fault and now this cat has been taken and others have been too, apparently. Not a good look.
Aren’t there protocols in place? How is someone allowed to just walk up to the cages and take cats out? The Petsmart here has adoption events all the time but they don’t just let you take cats out. The shelter volunteers should start to take name and phone number before they are allowed to engage with any animal. Bad people ruin it for everyone else 😢

If you have prior issues, how about take better safety measures.
There’s probably a sad and disturbing chance the the guy who stole the cat is a part of a dog fighting ring. Those monsters usually use small dogs or cats as bait for the fighting dogs
The fees usually pay for the cost of neuter/spay and first round of vaccines. When we adopted our kitten from PetSmart in 2012 the fee was $75 or $80.
That’s crazy expensive. They’re $25-$50 the last I checked here in NC. I got my most recent for $10. They’re just giving them away here.
@Prettykittychimi I'm in South Florida and some of the rescue agencies here charge $125. The County Humane society charges $125 for kittens 5 months or younger and $80 for older cats, and you can get a 2nd older cat for no fee.
@@Prettykittychimimaybe, but someone who is willing to pay that price is more likely to care for the pet. Likewise that covers everything from shots to the spay/neuter which is honestly really expensive.
@@Prettykittychimi wow
So, in 12 years, Petsmart went from $80 to $175 to adopt an unwanted cat? Inflation is bad, but not that bad. I smell a scam.
Question: if there have been so many thefts of the cats, why wasn’t there a plan to assess what is going on and how to fix it? Why haven’t you done anything?
I don't understand how the employees allowed a person to walk in and steal the cat and walk out without anybody noticing or saying anything so in other words your employees are no help to the store end everything in the store
I hope he’s not one of those evil vile human that hurts animals especially cats!😢I hope he’s returned safely.
How are these animals doors not locked?
TO THE PERSON WHO TOOK CAT. PLEASE RETURN. AND DONT HURT THAT CAT.😢😢
I agree with that woman, it makes me think that they are going to use the cat as a bait animal or something. I really hope shes okay
Unfortunately, there are lots of sick animal torturers in Washington small and medium towns. Even well documented and known by neighbors, yet never arrested or prosecuted.
Heavenly Father, please forbid all cruelty to these animals. Amen.
Just RETURN RILEY Back !! She has to have other medical procedures. I have several cats and let me tell you, I have spent thousands annually. If you can’t afford the one time fee…the other necessities are not cheap either. 🤷🏻♀️
1. was the Cat chipped? 2. Can the chip be tracked?
It's a microchip that can be scanned by a vet or rescue organization that has a link to a database with owner info on it.. NOT a GPS tracker.
@@yurintroubl damn!
My cat from PetSmart was chipped but the chip fell out over time, I got my Molly re-chipped at the vet.
That poor cat! Pet Smart needs to do better protecting their animals. At our Pet Smart they are in a separate room. The room should be locked and no one gets in without the supervision of an employee. I pray she will be found safe and that the idiot that took her won’t hurt her🙏🙏🙏
Update?
I hope that person didn’t steal the cat to abuse it. If a person is evil enough to steal who knows what else they might do…
As long as they are loving it, taking care of it, and giving it a good and happy home and life that's all that matters at this point
Now 8.
FINA-FUCK-LLY AN UPDATE! RYLIE WAS FOUND ALIVE! She's since been adopted! Also they've put a person to keep watch over the pet cages.
Wonderful, I’ve been following this story. So happy to hear a good ending!!! Do you have more information and did they catch the perpetrator?
Dude. It's like 50-100 bucks to adopt a cat from Petsmart and a lot of that money goes to getting them treated and fixed. This is awful.
Motive is simple.
He wants a cat but doesn't wanna pay.
I think she’s in good hands tho
I suspect it's someone who wanted that particular cat as a pet. The fact that they seemed to know which cat they wanted sounds as if they had their eye on her for a while. To an abuser, all cats would be the same.
I just hope the thief is a cat lover that just couldnt afford to pay for it and not want to do any harm to the cat
What is being done to recover this poor cat? This is outrageous!!!
I pray riley gets found and the other cats i pray that they are safe
This is exactly why theses cats should not be left there overnight. It has now happened 3 times. Rescues better wake up and not leave their cats there unattended.
Well come on Petsmart, roll the tapes. He'll be on there within the last monthfew months I bet checking her out. Maybe alone, but most likely with a wife/girlfriend or kids.
Yes please improve security measures so this stops happening. Poor Riley.
@@maggiemay1434 Yes it is! Get your head out of your butt! By the way I don't watch Fox News! Can't stand them!
Our pets are locked in a secure area at Petsmart
I hope Riley gets found. She's really beautiful. I hope she's safe at least.
I remember back in the 70’s people would give puppies away for free in front of the supermarket s.
@@irimac1806 Me too.
Smh. People are stealing cats now! Wtf? They aren't that expensive you know? Not these domestic breeds anyways.
I wonder if this person had been in the store previously and knew about the cat. The fact that he made a beeline for her cage is suspicious. I hope someone sees this and does the right thing.
Who does this? Some people are just horrible.
Yeah, something sinister crossed my mind immediately as well.
Why if you want a cat you can literally get on for free almost anywhere.
Where can you get a cat for free unless you are lucky to find one on the streets?
@@daviejz6698Craigslist and Facebook have tons of free kitten posts 💀 Unfortunately people don't get their cats fixed and then let them run outside all day
@@daviejz6698 When you get cats for free, they aren't vaccinated or neutered so it costs more in the long run.
This is a tactic used by dog fight rings breaks in to get or take a cat with a good demeanor to use as kill-bait. And the Pet Smart allowed this on their watch disgusting unacceptable fire the management and those who could have prevented it. The fact Pet Smart did nothing and let them do that shows someone from inside probably part of a dog fight ring letting this evil person know a cat that can be manipulated and friendly with no resistance is there and let them go in there and grab the cat to use in a bait ring for animal fight. Someone at Pet Smart let this happen is guilty of assistance to this animal abuser for that to happen.
Oh gosh I really hope that’s not the case…. I’ve heard of this and it’s sickening. I really really hope that’s not the case.
Praying for both Cat’s safety. Whoever got them please take care of them 😢🙏
I hope that the thief is not a psychopath and just wants a pet he doesn't have the money to adopt.
I hope she is okay!
So do I 😢 poor baby is probably confused and frightened 💔
One scumbag ruining it for everyone else and now making it harder for these sweet kitties to get a chance at a forever home.
@@angelinimartini Maybe that store should add something more then. The cats are not safe. Thanks for the info though & stay well.
@@angelachouinard4581I definitely agree. I hope this kitty is safe and found soon… but this sort of thing should not be allowed to happen. Stay safe out there too. Freakin world is crazy.
I feel bad for that cat. The cat looks very sweet.
Wonder if any outside cameras caught anything
This doesn't look good, the thief looks like the monster from Jeepers Creepers. They need to protect the cats better than they do.
Please update when you can! 🙏
That looks like a dirtbag stealing a small kitty either 1) as a gift to give to an estranged son or daughter he likely doesn't even have custody of OR 2) to use as bait to lure a child into a bad situation.
A Lonely, homeless person.
Serial killers start with harming animals unfortunately
This hurts. I am so sorry!!!!💙 🙏💙
there was a stolen cat at permsart in Clarksville Tennessee a few weeks ago. 😡😡
The cat adoption cabinets at my local Petco are LOCKED.
Seattle. No telling what they’ll do with it
This is terrifying. Poor baby girl! I hope she is returned safely!!❤❤
This is like the third time today I’ve seen a story about pets being stolen or killed at petsmart never going there again
These cats have already been killed and eaten. For anyone wondering.
oh no! I hope those babies are okay. I am sending prayers that this kitty gets found safely.
Any cameras in the parking lot to get a description of the vehicle and the plate? Any witnesses inside the store ,or parking lot? Any neighbors, or aquaintances recognize the new cat at the perps? Any ads with that sweet cat being sold? If you have info., do the right thing! 🐈 ❤
Right. Surely there were other people in the vicinity who noticed him taking the cat.
Not sure why but the negligence of the store bothers me more than the thief.
