► Destitution; it's worth reminding ourselves what that means. 'Extremely poor and lacking the means to provide for oneself'. It's a word Charles Dickens used a lot. ANI And today, an organization that tries to predict the possible effects of this current crisis also used it - as it warned us a quarter of a million people - 250 thousand people - will slide into destitution in the months ahead.

Today, I heated up some franks with some leftover chili beans. A poor man's meal for sure but it tasted so good on this cold day.
We as a family always paid rent, bills first than got food. No point being homeless and not starving. So we live on basic foods.
The funny thing is. the government did this to us....
Thatcher to Major to Blair indeed

Exactly this was strategic

This is what happens when people are consumed with greed. Bosses/companies chasing bigger bonuses/profit. Some people are never satisfied and can never have enough. The sad state of the country is down to successive governments doing a pitiful job in running it.
🙇
Time to over throw the government
Like generations have preached to their children “money doesn’t grow on trees” for a generation that has grown up now this is unlikely to be the answer parents give their children…….. it’s more likely “no problem I will just max out my credit card”
While feeling bad about families driven into destitution I will ask a serious question. Do people still buy junk foods and convenience foods and otherwise waste their resources on unnecessary items while facing an economic crisis? Just a question. My family voluntarily lives on less and finds ways to not spend our money and stay out of debt. Maybe this is no longer possible in the UK.

Gonna be a hell of a lot more that 1.5m for a start. More like 10/15m.

One mp stated "gwt a better Job, or work more in the job you have" what planet is she On? There is no Industry, that pays in this country. Minimum Wage, zero contract jobs, which is " voluntary paid expenses" and no jobs...which pays a decent wage.. would this mp willing to live on 750 a month? Look for a better job for 10.00 extra. 760 a month. Put these people to do this for a year. They soon see things differently!!
That was that “thing” from dwp who said that.
Improve your negative attitude then, that might help. There is no industry that pays in Britain, get serious.
Woah, the funny thing is that Tories party ignores poverty in the UK, instead sending 8 years worth of weapons production to Ukraine and sanctions Russia and China that used to provide UK with food, heat, frutilizers etc. Johnson doesn't care about UK. In addition we se rise in prices for car petrolium despite the fact that they've decided to tap UK emergency reserves. Imagine what's going to happen when UK runs out of those reserves.
My bill in London, sw7(south ken) went up 3 times!!! Its insane! Food prices are up, all prices are pretty much up.
We must lift sanctions against Russia and China and try to recover the economy. There is clearly no other choice.

You’ll be poor and you’ll be happy
this is the beginning of the end for the tory government
Yes-right on the money. "in the year 2030 you will own nothing and you will be happy". Most commentators who still think its the fault of the evil Tories-fail to realise that the likes of Starmer and Johnson are signed up to the Great Reset as are any politicians, technocrats and influencers who use Klaus Schwab's mantra of "Build Back Better"

Back to Victorian Times!!
I jst read that the income of Russia increased not decreased due to the high oil prices. Also they started to build new pipelines toward Asia. What the west especially Europe did is punched its own testicles. the high prices are partly COVID but these would decrease in time, most of the cause of the high oil price is the war in Ukraine and the attitude of West toward it, the sanctions will not weaken Russia or maybe they will, a little bit but by that time 3-4-5 years, they will have supply toward Asia and by that time most of people of Europe will be in deep poverty due to the politics of the EU. Their leader parties will be voted off. The so called 'price for freedom' will backfire because the people will not tolerate it for years for a free Ukraine. They may for some months but as soon as they feel it in their guts and cannot feed their children beleive me they will not give a crap about Ukraine.
I wonder what your attitude will be if Russia attacks Britain ...!!! get down of your high horse..!!
Interest rates have been held way to low for too long, plus quantitative easing, the chickens have come home to roost. This and successive governments have turned the UK into a credit and debt driven service and consumer driven economy when we needed investment in science, technology, high tech manufacturing and boosting our export markets. In fact this recession is just a continuation of the 2008 slump which was temporarily paused by this short-termism fiscal manipulation. Poor people are just going to be poorer now, like Eastern European countries were 10-15 years ago, they will have to bus out to other countries around Europe to work in the fields and on farms. Government can’t just print money (any more), if governments could then there would be no poverty anywhere in the world, people will need to re-adjust to the UK’s predicament.
The financial industries need to do more as they caused alot if this, sadly there isn't any opposition to the conservatives. Which means the poor will have to take on this burden.
@@TheJoker-um9tp Government policy has been to support the financial industry and service industry at the expense of everything else, their voters and benefactors. The whole economy has been based on credit, debt, shopping and leasure for over 30 years. All the CV19 support Richy Sunak gave was to support shareholder returns, not individuals or small businesses. Engineering and science has been run into the ground and undervalued for years, massive skills shortages.
Management/shareholders in the financial industry will just cream as much money as they can out of their companies as quick as possible then sack all their employees or get government bailouts.
The country is about to fall on it's ass to reset and many people who've become accustomed to government hand outs are going to find it extremely hard. This will not be fair on people who can't work in the fields in Poland and Romania picking fruit and veg, like the disabled people or pensioners.
The cost of living is just overpriced rent, and decadence.

@@rog3833 why I didn’t see you complaining when QE was being done. Paupers must pay for borrowing what isn’t theirs. There is a price to be paid for Quantitative Easing and you are paying it!
why them?
If you give everyone on Universal Credit £250 plus an extra £25 a week then we are going to have the situation where income tax will have to go up and people who work hard and don't claim will have to find even more for these people.
Also how many people who go to Fairbanks have really nice cars? Perhaps budgeting help would be better than keeping on throwing money at them.
Jesus Christ ...
Nah, they will just borrow the money for 10 years to disconnect people from the true costs, like they do with everything else and we will end up paying for it first with inflation, then again through interest on the debt and then by finally paying off little bits of the debt overtime and pay more in taxes than we would if they funded it by taxes all along.
