Legend has it that the song in the Tournament “you’re the best” was originally written for Rocky 3 but Stallone went with “eye of the tiger” instead. It was used for Karate Kid a year later.

Stallone was going to use Queen's big 1981 hit. Another one bites the Dust. But either Queen simply didn't want it used in a movie. Or they wanted too much money to use it. So Sly hired Survivor to write him a new theme for Rocky III. They took the line Eye of the Tiger from Apollo Creed's line in the movie. Stallone sent them a copy on VHS to watch. To give the writer/s? inspiration to write a theme.

The discipline Mr. Miyagi was allegedly teaching Daniel was Guju-Ryu. (54 year practitioner) It originated in Okinawa and the founder's name was Chojun Miyagi, who inspired Mr. Miyagi's character. The primary teaching is defense. Only when that fails should you bring in an offensive posture and always end it as fast and efficiently as possible without hurting your opponent seriously unless absolutely necessary. NEVER hurt someone just because you can!

With cooperative weather, you can walk across the United States in about 95 days. Driving is a little faster. There's a greyhound from New York to Los Angeles that takes almost two weeks. 2 weeks on a bus, man I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Edit: bonsai are the most magnificent gift.
if you really want a new level of appreciation for mr. Myagi's gift of the bonsai to Danny and his mom, look up how long it takes to grow and sculpt a bonsai and check out how much a mature, well manicured bonsai is worth.

This was healing from them both. But also, if you notice you had two military men.... Kreese from Vietnam and Mr. Miyagi was a Medal of Honor recipient from WWII. You are right about leadership. One being a bad leader and one a good leader. This movie always make me remember my father who passed...He was my Yoda/Mr. Miyagi...he always had words of wisdom and was a gentle but strong man.

I remember after the success from the first Karate Kid, there was a high rise in karate enrollment all across the country. And going into the sequal Kararte Kid II, there was a huge market. Merchandise such as tshirts, posters, stickers, booklets, action figures all Karate Kid related.

Karate Kid's influence on BJ's childhood is like the influence that The Goonies had on me. Don't get me wrong, for a solid 3-4 years, we would go to the playground after school and have ourselves karate matches in the sandpit (a prepubescent Fight Club). It made an impact on my childhood, but not in the same way The Goonies did.
It's probably because I was a pretty adventurous kid and I also came from a poor household. As a child, I had convinced myself that, one day, one of my adventures would lead me to a treasure like One Eyed Willy's and that it would fix all of my family's problems.

Finish the KK movies and checkout Cobra Kai. Excellent series. I started my son in Kenpo when he was 10. He learned fast. He would send the other kids and teens flying when he kicked them and would have to greatly pull his punches. He was so strong physically that he had to spar with the adult class. Even they didn't want to get hit by him. He gets it from me. I broke several of the punching dummies with the sand filled bottoms. If I hit them as hard as I could, I'd always break the top part off. When my son turned 15, he decided to try the gym with his older brother. He did a 1200 lb leg press for 10 reps with zero issues. I'm so proud. Thx for the great video !!

The way they revived that world and remixed the narrative is genius. It makes you nostalgic for the 80’s but also brings all of it into the present with the new Gen Z kids. It’s hilarious. Mr. Miagi is training Daniel in the BASIC defence moves of Karate .... i saw the movie back in 1984 but first began on Karate in the 90s coz i met a person who had a high "belt" in it when i startet in a school for higher learning ...... After that i went into the army ..... and have never returned to Karate although i miss it ALOT but im old , gray and out of shape today ! 🤪
He works the basic defences into Daniels "spine" ..... so it kinda comes "natural" to him in the tournament ahead !
It is shown when Daniel thinks Mr. Miagi just wants cheap labour and Mr. Miagi tryes to hit him in different ways and Daniel fends of ALL the attacks like he was born to do so ! 🤪
PS : MANY people here in Denmark began to train Karate after this movie came out ....
(And i think we ALL understand why)
