Bless you & thanks for such a lovely comment 😊 That really does mean a lot!! Maybe my style of presenting "isn't for everyone." Which makes me value the followers, I do have "even more." 😊✌️
l remember passing Crossbones Graveyard over the year's and it's great to see its History finally and that it was saved. So much of old London has gone forever.
It's a shame, the area looks quite shabby. More of a empty lot, than of a Crematory. I know we have no real accounts of who was buried here, but I still believe it should be turned into a Cemetery and religiously consecrated, this is something the dead buried here would not have had, a Christian burial. Also, lets not forget, women had no means of a regular employment in those times in order to make legal money and live a decent life, if you were not married as a Women, you had no means to live and eat, this is why so many took to prostitution, and in the slums, there wouldn't have been much chance of a good marriage, or a decent husband, it was all drink and debauchery.
Hi Varda, you've pretty much hit the nail on the head there "as to what this cemetery = was used for, for many years." The Victorians /Edwardians were no respectors of the place! & come that era "it had warehouse buildings/commercial premises on the site." When the appeal to actually resort the site for what it is, won through "the buildings were taken down, leaving an empty lot." There are records of those buried there "not loads, like for a traditional parish burial ground." But, if you Google = Burial records for Crossbones Graveyard in London "it'll take you to some pretty interesting pages & information." I absolutely agree with you "it should be consecrated & a proper memorial made, to commemorate & remember." When it comes to the lower classes "things were pretty harsh back then." Sorry for the late reply = I've had a lot going on recently. Best wishes ✌️
This is a brilliant channel. You should have way more subscribers.

Hi there. Yes, you're right "nice that its been saved & visited." & yeah, we've certainly lost a hell of a lot, over the years ✌️
That's so sad
It is very sad, Sharon 😔 The poor sods "deserved better than to be treated like that, at the end." ✌️
I think it was more to do with church wanting money rather than the safety of the women.
Happen you're right there "sad but true + a shocking fact of Southwark's history." So glad its been preserved 🕊✌️
