This is by far my favorite reprised D1 raid right now. When I think about it, this raid in particular required perhaps the most effort to re-introduce to the Destiny player base. All the reprised raids were designed in D1 for D1. This raid was terribly balanced when it came to roles. Most of if not all the encounters had a mechanic that could be handled by a single player, meaning fireteams could just check out and let a single member do all of the heavy lifting, which made for a boring raid. In addition, we as Guardians have become far more powerful and mobile than when this raid was first released. It honestly felt like Bungie took the entire raid apart and rebuilt it from the ground up. But the funny thing is there is really only one thing that is majorly different between the D1 and D2 versions: The Chalice. The Chalice was such a brilliant move from Bungie, taking a mechanic from D1 and redefining it for the reprisal. And I love how it always has a role to play in every encounter, like it is the singular beacon to guide us through the deepest pit of the Hellmouth. And they did all that and kept the overall atmosphere and feel of the raid intact. It really felt like we were plunging into the deepest shadows to kill a god. Now everyone in the fireteam gets to feel like a hero rather than that singular member grabbing the sword or running through the lanterns. And the showdown with Crota himself was such an awesome experience. And Bungie came up with a brilliant way to deal with RoW without having to nerf it and push players to use close range dps options. Crota is ready to square up and you better come ready for a brawl. The absolute chaos that unfolds when he breaks a well is hysterical because RoW is finally not the only answer and because he just smoked your survival tool like he was stomping out a match. 😂

I don't think I've ever had such a visceral response to hearing a soundtrack again after spending 20 hours straight in that hellhole fucking up before we finally killed him. Hearing the music again genuinely gives me anxiety and depending on which beat it's on I'm already thinking about shit I need to be doing or helping others do.
I think I would have preferred an entirely new boss theme for sure. This one’s okay but it still feels pretty low energy considering the circumstances, especially the dps phases. I think the original swordbearer theme was much better.
This is far more grave than energetic, which I'd argue is more contextually appropriate. Each to their own, but I find it to be a nice break from the norm
Honestly, same. With how much Bungie caters to nostalgia, on top of the fact that the music scripts from the other two D1 raid reduxes went virtually unchanged, I thought this would fall under a similar fate. Honestly, I'm kinda glad they did. A sped-up Into The Pit is cool but the whole track wasn't made for a fight. Soul of Crota is.
My headset's mic died during day 1 so i had to use airpods for game audio and discord via my phone for VC. Was so bummed I couldn't hear this properly while doing it!
Hmmm its definitely more modern sounding. But the ambience is very different from d1. D1 sounded very alien with a filter over it giving a sense of suffocation. Glad crota gets to join rhulk in absolutely throwing hands during dps... as long as you dont have a burning maul
“he broke my well” x999
Happy there continuing the bosses fighting back rather than just standing there. It feels much better that rhulk crota and nezarec actually fight back during dps.
The sword slamming noise from the original missing is throwing my brain off super hard.
It fits, just the dps phase could be better ig. Soul of Crota definitely feels better
I’ve been waiting for this ever since the raid came out
I don't think I've ever had such a visceral response to hearing a soundtrack again after spending 20 hours straight in that hellhole fucking up before we finally killed him. Hearing the music again genuinely gives me anxiety and depending on which beat it's on I'm already thinking about shit I need to be doing or helping others do.
2:15 I've played way too much bloodborne to not have caught that sound effect they use in the track
i thought exactly the same haahaha
I've been waiting for this
He laughs, “And then someone comes along and kicks Crota’s teeth in.”
I think I would have preferred an entirely new boss theme for sure. This one’s okay but it still feels pretty low energy considering the circumstances, especially the dps phases. I think the original swordbearer theme was much better.
Agreed. Original swordbearer theme sounded a lot more epic, but it makes up for it with the other parts of the ost I guess
This is far more grave than energetic, which I'd argue is more contextually appropriate.
Each to their own, but I find it to be a nice break from the norm
With how claustrophobic and dark the raid is I think a low energy fight is fitting.
"Low energy". The D2 version is much more energetic and intense compared to the D1 version in both gameplay and music.
Lore accurate Crota
the new sword bearer theme is fucking hype as shit, but im surprised they got rid of the original
You get the 3 hour loop trying to LFG the master challenge
My headset's mic died during day 1 so i had to use airpods for game audio and discord via my phone for VC. Was so bummed I couldn't hear this properly while doing it!
Ngl i actually missed this one ❤❤❤
Hmmm its definitely more modern sounding. But the ambience is very different from d1. D1 sounded very alien with a filter over it giving a sense of suffocation. Which I kinda miss as we went deep underground into this very alien area. However the D1 version does get very repetitive. I do like this new version. They did a really good job and theres a lot more too the version than the d1 version.
Promethean when he goes back to archiving destiny music
I'm sorry but I just can't unhear the stock horror sound at 8:45 lmao

Yeah I want the original back, it felt scarier
5:30 almost reminds me of pacific rims themes
anyone else hear skolas's theme at 8:40 ???
Yep
It's from soul of crota
Finally i could complete this raid my uncles complete this raid too i suppose is my legacy.

2:12 WHY IS THERE A BLOOD BORN VISCERAL ATTACK SOUND EFFECT AM I CRAZY?
Should do the theme from the bridge for D2!
God this is so much better than d1's theme, d1's theme sounded more like something from fucking cruelty squad than a destiny boss theme
Fun fact: Whenever I start this encounter with my buddie. I END UP BEING THE FIRST PERSON TARGETED BY CROTA.
You're his favorite. 😊
@@aztumtheknightofwumbo7060 ha ha ha ha ha :(
Nah, swordbearer without the percussion is just not it.
it does have percussion tho but I know what you mean.
@@ridion4382 we mean the sword slam sound every 4 seconds, it was in the d1 version and it was the cherry on top.
@@gabrielgalasso4899i honestly thought that sound effect was a biproduct of the theme being extracted poorly and never being cut out, was never a huge fan of it personally.
@@aeosic i loved it, it honestly made it feel more cannon in a way, like what we were doing was influencing the music itself, almost as if its cheering us on in a way.
@@gabrielgalasso4899 That's an anvil which was a common sample used in early D1 tracks.
DPS without those first 2 notes and without the anvil just didn’t hit man
Idk why they had to make the tempo so much quicker too.
me and the bois who's done the raid in 24h listen to this track for like 7h 😐
WE NEED IR YUT
song name is "Temple of Crota"
what did they do to dps
Same melody, different track.
8:50 Isn't that part of Skolas's theme?
I think there's a bit of taniks in there aswell
@@n1c0785No Taniks. Also Queen's Ransom was made after. I'm not sure the logistics of that, maybe that beat was just made as a general thing that got reused.
@@n1c0785 I think the thing you're hearing as "Taniks" is The Hope chant from Music of the Spheres, which is used as a generic motif and has nothing to do with Taniks. That appears in a lot of tracks. Case in point, here it is in Crota lol.
It's the strings at 3:23 and it appears in a lot of other places in this track as well.
5:00
I honestly like this version but I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to the original D1 version. D1 had such a different vibe in general.
This is a d1 song. It was for the crota soul crystal boss from dark below
Sword base vibes at times
Could you extend the swordbearer theme?
In this case, the extension is the entire high action.
so glad it's not slurpcore like in D1
Only the swordbearer part in d1 I liked
IDK man, the damage phase for this fight just ain't the same as the original. I can't put my finger on it, but dpsing Crota doesn't feel as satisfying as it used to, and I feel as though the remix of the song plays into it. It's too fast and doesn't sound as impactful as it used to
damage phase music is greatly expanded and cooler in d2 but the normal music isnt as cool imo
8:50
...Skolas...
Not Skolas.
Is it just me...or does the DPS track sound vaguely like Skolas's theme?
Other way around
If you told me literally 5 days ago that Crota would become one of the most mechanic heavy, teamwork centric, most Difficult final raid bosses on Contest, and an actual boss outside of it, I would have called you a liar.
And boy... I'm glad you weren't
He's a complete joke outside of contest though...
@@adrianpickel1482you can still completely fuck up on his fight though
@@adrianpickel1482 Every raid boss is. That's the game now (some more than others, Nezarec) but Crota is up there with Rhulk and Riven as the best final bosses in D2. Mainly because their fights had actual mechanics.
@@BinkTheDragon skill issue
@bepisaxe4464 Val Ca'ouor is the only raid boss I'd call mechanically intensive seeing as you literally need to do like 5 different mechanics to get to DPS. Yes technically riven is too if you do it legit, but that doesn't count due to a pitiful health pool combined with power creep, leading to 99% of groups cheesing it. Yes Val could be cheesed in terms of damage with wardcliff but you still needed to perform all the mechanics to get to that point to begin with
Are you gonna upload the D1 version of Crota's boss theme ?
I like the D1 swordbear theme better
Ehhhhh, I think it's a little flaccid honestly. Sword theme is cool as always but I loved the old rave for being fairly unconventional vs the typical ambience track so to say
Why remake the original only to ruin it?
No, the remake is much better
9:26
I hate the DPS phase so much, i was looking forward to hearing it while doing contest thinking it was gonna be so badass but this sucks 😭
Cry then lol. It sounds great.
The real Destiny players understand that D1 Swordbearer music is the true Crota theme. Not this, if you disagree you probably never solo'd him back on D1.
Technically both are. Into the Pit and Soul of Crota... like the only two pieces made for The Dark Below, are in total reference to Crota.
@@ArchivalMind thankfully both songs are complete bangers and we have an amazing member of the community who ensures these songs are playable and enjoyable outside the game (thank you) :)
I’m sorry to say but this ost sucks and it’s out of place. I missed the old one that gets me pumped up but this one it fries my brain.
i'd prefer the original.
Ngl d1 was better also 1st
Like... the encounter or the music? Can't comment on the encounter. Hated D1 Crota, probably gonna hate D2 Crota. But the music? It's just the first minute of this with one little cue to break it up every once in a while. Soul of Crota is a much better choice than Into The Pit sped up.
@@ArchivalMindi am sorry what? You hated d1 crota!? BRUH!!! D1 crota was the best. Idk who told you it was hateable but damn. Everyone loved d1 crota. D1 crota is Praisable bruh.
@spider-man9135 I cannot take anyone who calls D1 crota a raid boss seriously. He isn't. D2 Crota is a raid boss.
@@spider-man2153 That's some rose tinted goggles lol, not everyone loved it.
@@squadass99everyone loved it because it was a 6-man strike rather than a raid. “Not everyone loved it” then Tell those people that loved it what you just told me and see if they tell you different.
This just sucks. Original is simpler and the sword bearer part made it feel good when you did damage. This is so meh I’d rather it play the original and have the sword bearer music play during dps.
IN MY OPINION, this theme is beter then the original. It fits Crota WAY beter than the d1 version and they implemented the swordbarer theme into the melody REALY good and continued the melody around that heroic and hopefull feeling, as in d1 this heroic theme would just apear in the middle of an electro rave type song. I'M NOT SAING THAT THE ORIGINAL WAS BAD, i actualy realy like it, but I prefere the new one . (Holy shit i wrote am entire esay without realizing it)
Yea nah d1 version is better
They made the music worse alongside the raid :( I prefered the weird rave music over this VoG adjacent ambience.
Nah you're capping. The raid is so much better in D2. Music is still better in D1.
I have come around to the music more actually. The raid not so much I still think Crota himself is terribly designed, and really all they needed to do was add an aggro mechanic and he would be like twice as better to fight.
kinda disappointing actually. The "DPS" totally lost its epicness. The epic feeling of getting the sword, striking crota and your teammates shooting a bunch of gjallarhorn missiles. Now the theme is just... Fine... Nothing special about it. Just another boss theme.
Death by Nostalgia
bland revisit of an iconic fight, wasn't expecting much anyway
This song just feels incredibly rushed. Marty would never make a track like this and whoever remixed it did a poor job.
