Can you tell the difference between a Grand Champion and Rocket League Pro? It's much harder than you expect. Despite being a complete difference in skill, most players have no idea how to tell the difference between the two ranks when watching their gameplay.

If you were to put a Grand Champion against a Rocket League Pro, the result of the matchup wouldn't even be close. The Rocket League Pro would reveal the mistakes made from the GC every single time simply by punishing every mistake they make. But can you find those mistakes even if they don't get punished for it? That's what this challenge comes down to. I hosted a 10,000 Credit Kahoot Competition on my Twitch stream where you'd have to guess the level of gameplay you're watching. Is it a Grand Champion, Supersonic Legend, or Rocket League Pro? It's much harder to tell the difference than you would expect, so good luck!

The trick is to ignore the mechanical skill of the player almost completely, and just focus on how they all rotate around each other.
How fast the 2nd man gets in a position to challenge, after the 1st man has made a play, is a good indicator to the speed and overall skill of the lobby.

I was in the stream and it was difficult. I'm still amazed how Matiyo went 2/2.
I'm not going to lie, there's always a little bit of luck involved. The ssl clips are always the most difficult but the others are not. If you're used to watching rlcs, you can easily find the pro gameplays and for the gc clips, being a gc myself, I feel like I'm watching myself play because there are so many mistakes. Once this sorting was done, I put the probabilities on my side and I think that's why I won by a little.
I think the fact that all the non-pros are content creators makes this actually a LOT harder.
They watch a lot of gameplay and play a lot less and probably would have a higher rank if they were an average grinder. For example, CBell in is gc-ssl series is pulling off insane mechanics that pros would never get time to use, so the the whole prospect of judging by mechanics is a red herring with this pool of people
Pro: smooth rotation, no double commits, leaves for offscreen teammate in better position, coordinated teamplays due to comms.
GC: some messy touches and doublecommits, overall less mechanics
SSL: faster and more mechanical than GC, fluid gameplay, rare teamplays and still the occasional doublecommit due to no comms.
Some GC lobbies can look very fluid and mechanical though, that's why Wayton got me on his round.
Ended with 8/10 correct, only messups were mixing up GC and SSL twice, overall great video!

What do you focus on most? I didn't catch the stream, but I seemed to find the most success (7/10) just analyzing larger aspects like rotations, challenges, and the general speed of the match.

I perfectly named all the pro matches! except I didn't name the pro right though... 8/10 i guessed wayton at SSL and guess tenacity at gc 😅
For me its the recovery speed that helps me guess, as well as how quickly they make a decision.

I was very good at pro vs not pro, only getting that wrong once. However, had no clue of gc vs ssl, got those wrong a lot. But yeah, especially with this season of rlcs, the speed is just so much higher and the commits so confident from everyone it was pretty easy to tell when it was pro gameplay

I was not on the stream but I tried to guess them from this video and I actually got 8/10.What helped me a lot is the movement and the fast paced gameplay
As soon as i saw the kickoff and how the player went up the wall and tried to aerial that, I new it was tenacity, the way he tried to double tap that just kinda gave it away.
the redirect at the end of wayton's clip gave it away, he goes for those.

Hey Wayton, maybe this is worth looking into but I tried to identify pro gameplay by time spent facing the ball, in accordance with the advice from Xpere in a Thanovic video. I was correct on all my pro guesses except for your gameplay but you seem like a very conscious player so maybe that explains it.
It might be interesting to see if that idea can help someone improve their gameplay, kind of like how when you made the comparison video between GC and pro.

actually quite the opposite, the difference between gc and pro is probably larger than the difference between gc and diamond
Its the opposite, the difference between GC and SSL is way bigger than the gap between plat and GC. People move vastly different and at different speeds at the 3 ranks

Do this where you make NA pros guess which level of gameplay they are watching but they are watching SSA pro or APAC pro gameplay. Would be a funny twist because its all of the categories at the same time
as a champ1, i was super stocked to be 4/5 at the start. but then i got completely confused by the collective mindgame and ended up 5/10. haha . And good job on the ThrustMaster switch and promo. i've had it for a year playing at .04 deadzone comfortably and its the best still no stickdrift at all.

One good tip - if the stadium is champions field it is VERY likely that it is rlcs pro gameplay. I got 7/10 using this strategy :)
This was a fun video Idea!!
Went 7-3 this time, way better than my last record. After learning what to look for in a first touch since CBell got some advice from a pro on it, I used that a lot this time. Maybe a little too much since one GC2 lobby was slow but controlled and I guessed SSL, while one pro lobby was fast and loose and I guessed GC.

I got wrong in Tenacity thought it was GC , Joreus SSL and You as a SSL
From 10 I got 2 wrong. Besides the GC2 in the end, choosing GC was never a problem. The spacing is so much different. But it was hard and to differ between SSL and pros. I dont watch SSls and pros too much.
i love the eswap x pro but all the things that you CANT easily replace break. (abxy buttons, shoulder buttons)i did replace my shoulders but it was a process

I got 9 out of 10 correct, although I'm not sure if I would've gotten that many correct in a high pressure situation. All I looked for was the challengers. How quickly the second man challenges and how early each player is challenged when with the ball. In multiple gc clips the second man didn't challenge which is a dead give away.
Tenacity did 2 things that made me think gc, he rotated in a straight line back instead of wrapping around a bit to far post to get the extra boost and be far post obviously, and then in net he stopped for a bit which I feel like every ssl and pro says you should never do. i was guessing ssl for him before : (
He only ever gets boosted to ssl anyways in 3s

@@connorallan8080 if you watch him play his game he gets into SSL he plays with someone called drku who clearly carries and is ssl normal but went down to gc2 when he got into ssl. He’s rarely in it and isn’t in 2’s or 1’s

I got 3 of them wrong but those gc games looked like the ssl games
for the joreuz clip he neutral jumped off the wall to get a better recovery so he could beat the opponent to the wall and i INSTANTLY knew he was a pro lol

In before it's Commutator so it's a GC and an RLCS pro. Sounds like something Wayton would do.
Is it just me or is the difference between pros and these ranks very noticeable while gc and ssl is a little harder to guess cause in pro play the play seems so smooth and like everything is calculated while in gc and ssl everything kinda looks all over the place the only thing that I really notice is the difference between gc and ssl in these clips is when to challenge and rotations and even those are so minimal that you need to pay so much more attetion
yeah id think even a pro playing ranked 3s would make it harder to guess, but when its rlcs replays the coordination and fluidity just sticks out
GCs tend to give the ball away more often, SSLs have more quality first touches. That said I got one wrong between them, I guessed SSL on a GC2 lobby that was slow but looked very controlled
@@hiroprotagonest yeah I made the same mistake lol I mean these short clips unfortunately aren’t enough to go off of most of the time sometimes even a whole game can throw you completely off depending on how the person is playing or how the people around him are playing
please do this with high level content creators, i would love to see if other high level players can easily tell the dofference

Wayton or anybody else that can help. I’m plat one in twos and not really mechanical. Can make contract on aerials but inconsistently on target. I can kinda dribble but my recoveries suck. Me and my teammate almost swap on pressing and playing more passive. One pressures the ball and the other one is playing back ready. Is this bad and how can I change this habit thanks
are the maps changed too? Because RLCS has a fixed rotation of maps and of its not one of them in the clip you could count out pro immediately

As long as all players are at the same skill level at very high levels, it's impossible for 'normal people' to tell. Someone who can't ice skate couldn't tell an NHL player, AHL player, or ECHL player apart. Hell, professional scouts to NHL teams frequently can't tell if a prospect is going to be first line or third line material. So many busts and unexpected booms. Only absolute superstars are fairly obvious... and even then, sometimes second guessed. Cale Makar was clearly special at his level, but there was question if his play style would work or not at pro levels (similar to Tim Tebow, one of the best college QBs of all time, who was a bust in the NFL because his college style doesn't consistently work when everyone is a pro).
