I tested some of the most risky and interesting kickoff strategies ever made in Rocket League. These strategies were suggested by my discord community. I was actually impressed by how effective some of them were.

I asked my discord community to send me their best kickoff strategies they could come up with. Most of them weren't even worth mentioning, but some of them actually showed some potential. I took on the job of testing them out and we walked away with a few ideas to use in dire scenarios in ranked. At the end of the experiment, we walked away smarter and knowing that we enjoyed experimenting with new strategies. Rocket League kickoffs are in my opinion the most fun way to test out new strategies and ideas.

A less risky version of the first kickoff, which I occasionally do use, is to just have your third teammate stay in net in case it goes poorly.

the corner collect is actually a strategy that a lot of people use in mid-range MENA lobbies, and sometimes finds its way to top 1v1 games (usually Joreuz is the one guilty of that). it is a decent alternative but not that competitive as you get put under high pressure right off the bat.
I use this strategy in c1 2s lobbies all the time. Pretty much every game. I’ve never had it back fire and result in a goal.
I just made GC in doubles and I use this on 60% of those kickoff set ups 😂
Sets up some insane dribble 1v1 plays immediately
i have always seen it referred to as "the friendship" kickoff. they do it amazingly well in the ranked hoops twitch channel with the high level matches.
The angle start version is friendship, the side by side start version is the fusion. The names came from the Dragon Ball universe.
I've been using the corner collect for a couple years now and I've found that just a back flip instead of a half flip is just as useful and simpler, especially for lower ranked half flips, usually leaves you dead in line for a lot of the 'collects' with full boost 👌
I don’t know what’s more consistent my teammates being good or waytons upload schedule
Small channel here but my best short had to do with kickoffs the other day and I talked about how I think kickoffs need a lot more experimenting and seeing teams have a couple different types to keep teams on their feet. I talked about this in the comments of the short. Anyways great video as usual Wayton I aspire to reach your video quality one day.
i love your vibe dude, keep making videos

love the videos wayton!
I have opera gx many months ago and thanks to this I just found out about this feature to watch your favorite streamers on twitch integrated with the browser, great video.
Amazing video! I have always loved the cinematics!
I started using the backflip kick off in 1s Mainly cuz it cuts down ALOT on kickoff goals but sometimes you do have to change it back to regular kick off to keep them on their toes
these goals legit had me smiling, Thank you
Nice vid Wayton!
While seeing someone new in the scene like aZapatos and his insane wave dash kickoffs, I’ve been wondering if squishy’s old front flip cancel kickoff would work well against him, since his kickoff typically allows him to get the ball and instantly shoot on your net. With squishy’s kickoff after hitting the ball you’re already facing backwards and shadow defending
Thanks Wayton for featuring my kick-off, I wouldn’t know if it’d work!
The side cheat #8 is viable in lower ranks. In gold/plat, kickoffs are less predictable, so having the second teammate nearby helps corral the possession. But if you cheat too far, it can be disastrous, like any cheat. It's also easy to follow the minipads to larger boost pads.
the first with one staying in net and the second strat we do al lot actually...it works quite often in diamond if you can get to be consistent.
i love that ding noise thatt plays when someone scores. It so satisfying
Hey Wayton, awesome content as always ! 😎
I've actually been doing that side cheat in 2s for a while. It definitely isn't a game changer, but it is another option that makes you harder to predict. Nice video :)
Can you buddy kickoff in comp 2v2 during the offset and parallel centerline kick off positions at all? Parallel spaces might be too close to be effective and offset spawns might be too far but I'm so curious to know if this works
Wayton you be making the best rl content on youtube right now, keep it up bro
Waytons videos are always just the best man. Thanks for posting amazing videos for us!
Love the vids Wayton. I get that it is hard to edit and record but your vids are so good I just want more vids because there soooo amazing
That last strat in hoops...banger goal bro...got my 👍
I love these kind of video’s. I would love to see some of your non mech video’s.
you can do the bump kickoff in normal games too, you just need to spawn in the back 2 side by side spawn position, the execution is pretty similar, and it is slightly faster than a speed flip, but much harder
I feel like some of these have their best use after you’ve done some normal kickoffs and you hit them with the element of surprise. I also feel like these may not work that well in end of game “hail mary” situations because opponents know to expect tricky stuff in desperate situations
A great kickoff strategy in two's where both people are almost front on to the ball, the goal is behind them and the two cars are closely beside each other, left bumps right car forwards and right car reaches ball super fast
I love your vids and I think you deserve more subs!
I mostly play hoops, and I'd been wondering how to get a goal in under 8 seconds, but that strat did it for y'all! Love it.
I made my own kickoff(a little like the 1st one)it works in 2s and 3s, and only in the lower rank, and you need to know how to speed flip, and has to be both diagonal kickoff, the one on the right goes and speed kickoffs, while the one in the left goes for left boost and my team gets the ball for free :)
I have seen the buddy kickoff before but if you can get it right it can be really good
It's so OP
Wayton thanks for putting time stamps
when you have both players on corner in a kickoff you can have the player on the right do a speed flip and it's possible to beat the other team to the ball and pass it directly to left mid where your teammate can follow it up. I've been using this since i learned how to speed flip 2k hours ago and it still works quite a lot
This is super cool!
Me and my friend invented what we call the “dart redirect” where when you are the player closest to the ball (generally far right or left) you go for mid boost first instead of the ball. Then your teammate boots the ball as far up the feild as possible and you are able to take possession and score
Try the buddy kickoff in soccer for 2s or 3s when you have one far back and one slightly in front
Wayton's videos are always my favorite whenever a see a notification.
New video! Lets go! Also Opera GX! Lets go!
I’ve actually done “The Late Delay” on accident when I’m down too far to recover and just decided to goof off, in both 3s and 2s.
you should do like plays like in basketball whoever has the ball calls out the play like 2 the pick n roll and the 2nd man comes in a bumps the defender or make 5 pass play types
5:00 that's literally half the kickoffs i get in champ 2, an idiot going for boost without a warning and you having to move forward a bit, but usually what happens is the ball goes above you
Finally a new video
The back flip has actually been pretty successful for me. I back flip a little later than he does though. I am also a lower rank though so it could just be the players
I've found a lot of success in high diamond and low champ (and below), with a strategy that I've never seen anyone else use, and when people notice it I get called crazy.
I should specify, I do this in 2s. It works in 3s, but it's not as good, and sometimes you'll get doubled up on which is usually a hard-counter for it.
You don't try and be fast. You assume your opponent is going to try and be fast. You watch what angle they try and take, and you counter it. Generally, you'll want to be somewhat on the same side of the ball as them when they hit it, and try and hit the ball in the same left-right direction as they do. You flip when your opponent hits the ball. The flip isn't for power on the hit, it's to get fully in the way, and to get you moving faster toward that boost pad. You're not trying to win the kickoff, you're trying to make a good setup for your teammate, by "tying" the kickoff.
The most important thing, though, is the way you position yourself relative to your initial momentum. You pretty much want to be sideways, sometimes, almost straight up backwards. You power slide so that your ass end slides toward the ball from the inside, and your nose begins to face the side wall. If you do it right, and/or get lucky, you'll hit the ball just after they do, with very little separation between where you hit it and midfield, maybe 1/2-1 car length. The moment the ball hits you is when you flip, and it will be in the direction of the nearest sidewall. The ball will squirt out to the side, usually pretty much straight sideways, and up, but not quite to the ceiling. This will vary some. When you slightly "miss" the timing of the 50/50, your car will get thrown off to the opposite side, also pretty much straight toward the side wall. If you timed the flip right, this will combine with that momentum and you'll be going faster than you might expect toward the boost.
Your teammate should get a back corner boost, and then advance up the side the ball is on, which should be the side they're already on, assuming success. If you don't succeed, they will have time to get over for a save. If you do succeed, one of two things will happen.
1. Your opponent's non-kickoff player will do basically the same thing, and a 50/50 will appear near the wall. Since you, the kickoff player, have a boost advantage, you should be able to scoop up possession of that and start making a play.
2. They'll do something else, and you'll beat them to the ball. You, the non-kickoff player, have a boost advantage, so ideally you'll be in a good spot to make a play on a pass, advancing up and inward from the opposite sidewall.
The main strategy here, is to "tie" the kickoff, so as to get your team an advantage in another aspect, and try and take kickoff luck out of the equation as much as possible.
Secondarily, because you'll be doing something bizarre, and it won't be immediately obvious what it is that you're doing unless they're paying very close attention, you'll likely be able to pinpoint the moment they figure out what it is you're doing, and this gives you the advantage of being able to read their counter, and counter it. The counter to this kickoff, is to do everything basically the same, except get to the ball about 1/4 of a second faster, and mirror your approach. So, nose in toward the center, but flip in your butt's direction. This'll kill your momentum, leaving you approximately in the middle. Bad for the boost, but if they're mimicking your moves, it'll most often send the ball into their opposite corner.
If they double team on the kickoff, you arrive slower, put yourself smack dab in the middle parallel to the sidewalls, and backflip as soon as the ball hits you. The ball will rocket to the ceiling basically straight up, you'll get demolished, but your teammate will have an easy long shot on an open goal unless you get unlucky.
I can't say if this would work in higher ranks, because, I'm not there, and I've never tested it there. I know it works as low as high gold, which is where I was when I started doing this several years ago. This strategy really only works because it makes it a lot easier to mind-game, and because people just don't have much if any practice dealing with it.
If you fuck it up, it ends up looking like just a crummy kickoff, and you're at a slight disadvantage. if you REALLY, fuck it up, it's a goal against, but you have to just miss the ball for that. Still, a possibility, at least for me. X^[
I liked it a lot you have helped me get better just by watching your videos
Great idea, concept and execution! Yet i'm not fully satisfied as they say...
I've been practicing with alternative kickoffs for a while now, and there's so many options. I immediately wondered why top players aren't using such techniques or strategies.
Trying out all sorts of mechanics, i found out that you can get a ball ANYwhere you want with a high succes rate (%).
(9:20 Getting the ball in the right spot..)
There are a few basic variants, as the backflip kickoff, the slide handbrake kickoff and the delay kickoff.
The backflip kickoff can be executed in various ways. One can use the bottom/wheels to block the kickoff and slow down the ball, yet also when totally finishing a backflip so the nose of the car will hit the ball, and not the wheels, but in that occasion, one would have to slow down a bit more when approaching the kickoff, to avoid being early.
The slide kickoff can be VERY offensive and successful if all players are aware. The tip of the car can be used to pinch it to the opposite side, while the body can direct it to any direction depending on the direction of the car (slope of the hitbox on top).
So one uses the angle of the slope of the hitbox to pinch the ball in the kickoff. Staring contact with the highest part (rear), and finishing contact with the ball with the lowest part of the hitbox (front).
The delay kickoff, of which both previously mentioned cases can be included, for me, is the new "meta", as it destroys any speedflip momentarily (this goes for most levels) and it gives the player a leverage over any other kickoff taking opponent as they have the decision of where the ball will end up, how fast and how high or low, which on its own gives the opportunity to predict and warn the team member where they need to be.
Some players were using similar strategies, but they waited in their spot to then go later, which is too risky to be late, when boosting into kickoff and braking right in front of the ball, THEN doing the flip AND double flip into the ball (any rotation or not)
is much more effective AND safe.
One will be amazed by the time you have to decide where you want to place the ball when waiting after that brake in front of the ball... (always see what the opponent is going to do, where they are in which moment and when they're going to reach the ball)
It's so effective that i wonder if it would work on top levels, and why they haven't tried yet...
my buds and i do a speed flip pinch if we both have diagnal in 3s!
It would be really cool to see more eloborste kickoff strats and out plays and stuff
Hey Wayton!! I have a question? What are your camera settings?! Btw you are the best UA-camr!❤
I've had one for years that exploits "left goes" for early possession.
Set Up: Double corner kick off (either 2s or 3s)
The Play: Right goes, while left slowly cheats to the left mid boost
Result: Ball pinches out to your team mate with 100 boost for an early solo play

3:11 the trash talkers 😂
Backflip kick off is more of a preflip backflip musty hit, It's all about walling the player with perfect timing. The top of your car pointing down hits after a full rotation and on your second flip. I use it all the time effectively
So the buddy kickoff for hoops works in regular too. Any formation where you start next to a buddy. My friend bumped me on kickoff and I was miffed until I realized he had catapulted me straight into the ball. Can't recreate it cause I'm trash, but boy it would be cool to see a good player actually nail this. Plz tag me if someone has a video of this working on command.
Tbh I rate all of them, you could definitely use 2-3 of those in one game and it works to your advantage. Especially because its something else the opposition team has to think about besides the vanilla strategies
Wayton your vid’s are the best out of every rocket league content creator
I pretty consistently use the late kick-off when it's a straight. I take off with no boost for the first second or so and make sure I kick-off high. I win around 80%. It's unpredictable as to where the ball goes but sometimes it sets up. It rarely ever fails and when it does the ball goes to a corner where a team mate is already anyway
Definitely one of the best rl content creator. Btw love the new pfp
Let’s hit 500k Wayton
Yo dude question. When your trying new setting and stuff or a new car how long do you think you should practice with it before making a decision?
Awesome video
the thumbnail made me predict that one of the kick of strategies might have been 2v2 with both players at the goal, wait for them to hit it at your goal, and then loop around each side of the ball path and pinch it midway with your teamate back towards their goal. an incredibly risky and unlikely idea
What if you do the buddykickoff in a 2v2 game when one is in the back and one is all the way back.
The side cheat is what I do as a plat 2 haha. Didn't realize that it wasn't the normal cheat even. It helps me get boost, which if the ball stops in the middle helps me beat the other guy on the other side who is cheating up.
ive been doing that halfflip away strat since gold ngl
I'm only Plat 3 in one's so I'm definitely going to try the back flip kickoff, it looks like a legitimate strategy for 1s
I go for side boost on kickoff often in 3s and get a ton of goals out of it.
Hey Wayton! What is your best tips to start a new youtube channel? btw i love your vids:3
1. Do it because you like it! It's supposed to be fun! The numbers and success is a side bonus.
2. Especially when you're starting, ALWAYS make your newest video better than your last. Figure out how you can top yourself. Do not stop innovating. The moment you settle with your current skillset and stop trying to become a better creator is the moment you stop caring. Never settle.
Couldn't the "Buddy Kickoff" actually work in 3s where the front two players are line up together?
No because the ball doesnt pop up, so the time lost for cutting infront of your teammate for the bump will be negated by the opponent’s speed flip. You cant speed flip to the aerial touch in hoops.
it does work people were doing it in the first 2 years, never got popular because its difficult to aim
It works but its super hard to aim it well. My friend does that to me all the time when he starts beside me while i flip infront of him, but im definitely way faster to the ball than my opponents.. it just never actually gets us anywhere because i rarely hit the ball after getting booted lol...
Now for someone whos actually higher ranked, im pretty sure it would work with a bit of practise.
Dude ive been doing the side cheat from just how I learned most kickoffs go. A stalemate first hit and nobody's got boost left to send it. I would always creep the boost pads off to the side and hope to score an easy goal.
Me and my plat 2 friend do the late delay all the time and I never knew that it was not an actual thing… and just saying that once you master it that you can win 95% of the time
Could the buddy kickoff be adapted to regular 2v2 or 3v3?
Try buddy kickoff in 2s, kinda works when both are in the back next to each other, diagonally flipping into each other
I saw that’s kap, who was is sunless’s bob video, in the fake&scoop portion!!!
Yeah, this just shows I need friends to play with. 10/10 on the Buddy from me. TY
I usually use the side cheat in my 3s games, and if the ball ends up on the opposite side then the cheater rotates back and the 3rd man rotates to challenge the ball while kickoff guy recovers. Sort of an "I go front right, you go back left," kind of thing. It works for now, as we are pushing into diamond
Would it be possible to execute the buddy kickoff in a normal game? Like in 2v2 when you both start in the back one player right behind the other
yeah, but its so hard
hi wayton thanks to you tutorial i can airdribble that the bal sticks to my car or i get 4 or 5 touches im in gold struggeling to get up the ranks cant play comp so im in freeplay practissing airdribbles

12:00 Bro, I've been subbed for a long time, and I'm really glad I am. =] Keep up the awesome videos Wayton!
I just noticed there are custom training packs from Psyonix. But the way they want you to score is not always clear. I tried to search for the solutions on UA-cam but i couldn't find it. Maybe you got any idea? I mean, you made a few training packs, right? But there was the rule we need to collect the first boost pad and then we are allowed to steer. Maybe Psyonix had an intentional way to clear the shots? Or is it something like this: Try to hit the ball as early as possible with much power?
Do you have multiple jumps while in aerial?? It looks like you have multiple jumps
Last one is actually called the friendship
Could the buddy kickoff be used in standard or doubles?
10:15 the hoops kickoffs are called "The Friendship" and has be called so for over half a decade :)
Oh and also the RankedHoops people have been calling it tipoffs, instead of kickoffs :)
This has nothing to do with the video but on rocket league it always says failed to save and i have to do the 2 minute tutorial match every time. I play on switch does this have anything to do with it? Or is it just my storage
It’s kinda crazy that kickoffs just become the same after a certain rank cause in the low ranks people get creative and do all sorts of stuff for kickoff
My strat in diamond, is kill my momentum with a backflip just before hitting the ball. It’s got a decent success rate for me
You should have done the spanish kickoff
Where the guy is closest to the ball during kickoffs fakes and goes for a bump/demo and than the opponent passes the ball to your teammate where he can shoot/pass/dribble
And the mate taking the kickoff hopefully gets a demo and than the goal is free
I’m gold/plat often switching between, what do I do if my teammates done rotate I’m solo queue
My buddy and I have been doing the corner collect for awhile before seeing this video lol
If there is 1 kickoff I always use and found it more effectively it was the backflip kickoff because I been using that for the past 2 months and won more games improved my skill from some of your other videos and happily sitting at c3
