That being "micro mechanics" or "small-ball moves". Things like recoveries off the wall when you're low on boost and are close to the ground. Getting ball touches from the corners when you're either on defense or offense. Just training all the little things you do with your car and the ball that aren't dribbles, flicks, or power shots. Idk if this makes sense or not but I'm in C1and since I've begun focusing on these little movements/touches, I've seen a massive improvement in my overall control but I'm struggling to articulate exactly it all entails. I think you're the perfect dude for this concept and I'd love to know your thoughts!
@@nolbert82 Thanks man, me too! I'd also like to add that I think this concept should also include what you should be doing between hits as well. How to make a touch that sets up for the next and how to apply that to overall control.
I've been doing that last strategy for a while now, whenever I'm in either diagonal position, I boost straight for the ball but then swerve a bit to my side of it. It works sometimes. And when it doesn't work, most of the time it still turns out ok. You don't even really need comms when random queueing - if the other diagonal goes for it, I do the swerve. If they don't, I just do the regular kickoff instead.
yeah same here, if both go on kickoff becouse noone quickchat "i got it" i just go for strategy 3 and it results in some goals now and then. Better than doing nothing/full double commit on kickoff if you both already went
I think if you vary your kickoff strategies throughout the game, you're less likely to have the result you found with strategy #1. It can be a weakness *if* your opponent figures out what you're doing, but that only happens if you keep doing it. If you mix strategy #1, #3, and the standard kickoff throughout the game, it's a bit risky to simply shoot the ball straight at your goal. The reason why the standard kickoff became standard is because when properly executed, it's just a mid-field 50/50 every time. It has neither advantages nor disadvantages, but that doesn't mean that it should be the default kickoff for every kickoff, although maybe it's good to default to it if you're winning the game and don't need additional goals, simply because there's little chance of it going poorly (unless of course, your opponent tries something unexpected...).
If you find the Reddit clip of the third clip that might be one of my buddies. We’ve doing that kickoff for a little while now but we don’t do it too much cuz we’re inconsistent
Seems like the mixup now and again could be valuable, especially when the kickoffs become routine. Trying late in game/series could catch the other team off guard and spice things up. I like this idea for sure.
If you're looking for this trend of exploring new strategies for different aspects of gameplay, I would love to see a video trying out new rotations. I know this concept overall has been done before, but I've had the idea for a rotation where you have 1 permanent goalie and 2 permanent aggressive strikers. The players on offense try to keep control and play fast, without worrying too much about a breakaway, while the goalie remains back with full boost to save any incoming shots. Obviously there's tons more potential for stuff like this, but I just wanted to mention that particular idea since I haven't seen it tried yet.
I occasionally do a musty kickoff in 1v1 when I'm spawned in front of the goal. it ends up acting as a delay and if you do it right you pretty much block the entire front of the ball - quite often ending up with a kickoff win for you. I can't remember ever conceding a goal doing it , at worst having lost possession. Pretty cool how creative you can be with kickoffs!
I came up with the 3rd strat for me and my buddy years ago. We got it to the point where if the right side does a speed flip kickoff purposefully sending it left (opponent doesn't touch) and left preflipped sideways, it was basically in within a second at 130+kph every time. It's amazing if you can beat the opponent to it from the right, as they no longer have an impact on the control.
I know this is true because almost no rocket league player has the brain power to make this up but the ones that can make this up wouldnt say 130 kph but would say like 120 kph or something
First off great exploration of kick offs. It's great to see these things get that love. I don't think any of these kicks off are actually failures. Kick Off 1: Creates unpredictabity. You utilize it, which forces them to have to switch to trying to centralize the kick off, in which case you can adapt the traditional kick off to force them into awkward situations from the get go... just when they think youve gone back, you then hit them again. Kick Off 2: Creates a unique positioning advantage that allows you to play either a defensive set if you lose possession, or gives you positioning for a counterattack directly on the kick off. Plus, you can force predictability here in higher level and potentially pro lobbies, where the kick offs are typically much more consistant in contact. Kick Off 3: Well... video explains itself why its successful XD... The overall takeaway here is that, variety and unpredictability in a kick off strat are legit. That's why, though not used often, fakes, spanish kick offs, etc. can be effective. Because they create that unpredicability... even if its short term... which at times can be enough to win you the game!
The third kickoff strat reminded me of a demo kickoff i used to do with some other demo buddies. You both go and demo the person on kickoff, and then the person cheating up (if anyone is cheating) and then YOUR third man goes and shoots the ball which should be left untouched if the kickoff is done correctly. Theres also a second one involving a pinch like in the video, where both team mates pinch the ball into the net off a speedflip.
Strat 1 seems like a good switchup to use to mess with your opponents. Strat 3's flaw seems to be that it relies on the leftmost player attacking the ball. If the player on the Right goes, the strat will probably just fall apart.
Whenever I have kickoff, I usually go for a standard setup, but slow down slightly and side-flip towards my half instead of flipping towards the ball so I can direct the ball into my team's back corner and right to a teammate. Usually the ball ends up rolling at a medium-to-high speed, easy to control. Gives my team possession right off the bat. Has worked out quite a bit in Champ, especially in 2s.
I actually do the 3rd kickoff sometimes when I know my teammate can do a fast kick off. I position myself and dodge into where the ball will be and have sometimes scored this way. It's rare though.
My friends accidentally have done strategy #3. Our teammate has a very fast kickoff. So by the time the second delayed player gets to the center they just have to be in the right spot to shoot the ball at the goal. We do it in whatever position he is sitting in whether it's left or right. Thanks for the confirmation video. That's real cool.
Great video. I thought all those kickoffs have value using them sometimes. JohnnyBoi recently dropped a video with new kickoff strategies, at first I thought you were gonna try those. Be cool to see a sequel to this video with the kickoff stats he talked about a couple weeks ago.
Once you demonstrated the second kickoff to your friends, i found a weakness you soon realized after using this strategy for multiple attempts. Its unpredictable to tell which direction the ball is heading once the enemy hits it. I have thought of a solution in which you jump to at least deflect the ball to the enemy side. However, this kickoff isn’t a great alternative since the opponent will counter it after one or two kickoffs. I would recommend you to switch between kickoffs to confuse your enemy. I hope this is useful!
With strategy 2 I think I’d be better if the person on the left would grab mid boost, this gives boost control and you have 1 player upfield with boost and 1 person backfield with boost. This will (hopefully) lead to insanely aggressive kickoffs. You can even let the person staying behind go for the back left boost, this way, if the ball goes back right, you have someone with full boost back post and it allows the person going for kickoff to grab the back right boost.
How is the last one a success? 98% of the time, it’s not gonna go straight in net unless perfect positioning is executed. I’d say they’re all fails due to the inconsistency with all of them
the standard kickoff and kickoff 3 and all good things and one bad thing. kickoff 3 makes two people at low boost. standard kickoff leaves it possible to go to ur end. so as a rumble ssl and a regular gc1 I think kickoff 3 is better because if u do it right u won't need the boost and the ball goes to their end so u can get boost if needed
In strat 2 since left one goes, when im right side i speed flip and hit the ball to corner, and left one goes for middle and enemy corner boost and sometimes gets the chance for an open redirect
that last one is very similar to one me and an old teammate used. we called it pink pirate based on they first guy we saw use it(on reddit in like 2016). it stopped working as well when speed flips came around because it relied on beating the other team to the ball completely and the other guy side flipping perfectly. it also worked best in 2s
A refined strategy one could be pretty good; instead of the last guy back going for boost they stay on net and whichever post the enemy shoots at you take that posts corner boost
There’s a much easier version of the 2nd kickoff that works for all diagonal kickoffs to set the ball to the back corner boost of the person going to the kickoff. Just do a single wave dash kickoff and aim to the inside of the ball and you always get the 50/50 to the corner boost
the 3rd kickoff JZR used to use that all the time in his "moi moments" clips except person 1 who goes for the ball does a speedflip to hit it to the side to his teammate just trying to beat the opponent to the ball
Bro. That first strategy was legit... For a surprise once a match thing. Give it a code name and call it somewhere in the middle of a match with teammates that know what's going on and it could be the surprise goal maker you need sometimes. Ha ha. And it was pretty obvious that last one could be used to. Even more than once a match possibly. Give it a code name too. Pretty soon you will have a whole playbook like real sports teams do. Ha ha!
Thanks for watching!! Have a great day :D

3:46 , The BEST redirect I’ve seen (excluding pro league)
5:11 he did what?????
We need Johnny and Wayton to discuss. Johnny is the main advocator for pro players changing their kickoffs.

Shut up >:(
Strat 1 seems like a good switchup to use to mess with your opponents.
Strat 3's flaw seems to be that it relies on the leftmost player attacking the ball. If the player on the Right goes, the strat will probably just fall apart.
If you have good comms with your teammate you can adjust which player goes
Also you can see which player goes for kickoff the most in the other team so you just have to adapt
Just because the standard kickoff truly is best doesn't mean sneaking in the pinch is not useful, the fact that it is unexpected makes it so good
My friends accidentally have done strategy #3.
Great vid man!
amazing video I might just use this in my rank games with my friends😉

Yay we we're in the video :D
ggs, keep up the content!
Speaking of teams I'm looking for a coach, do you have any recommendations as the RL Big Brain?
5:11 is the best part xD
5:11 what didd he say ?!?!😂
I know
In strat 2 since left one goes, when im right side i speed flip and hit the ball to corner, and left one goes for middle and enemy corner boost and sometimes gets the chance for an open redirect
what if instead of faking the kickoff in the first one you actually get a slight touch on the ball, so they cant shoot it directly to the net
The last one my new straight lol thanks for trying to make the game more fun
No one’s talking about how sus the lines that wayton drew for strategy 2 at 4:59came out to be…. And also 5:11….
Nice video keep the work up
that last one is very similar to one me and an old teammate used. we called it pink pirate based on they first guy we saw use it(on reddit in like 2016). it stopped working as well when speed flips came around because it relied on beating the other team to the ball completely and the other guy side flipping perfectly. it also worked best in 2s
I feel like all these kickoffs could do well if you mix them in with each other as well as the basic kickoff
A refined strategy one could be pretty good; instead of the last guy back going for boost they stay on net and whichever post the enemy shoots at you take that posts corner boost
Dude this is just amazing 1 and 3 are really good
just curious if anyone knows the exact music playing during the first strategy? (starts 1:54)
The music @6:35 is 'Who will save me - STRLGHT, NIGHTCAP
hey wayton, are those displates behind you? if not, what brand are those posters from?
Tbh, 1 and 3 with the standard kickoff mixed together can be deadly in any rank loved the video thought
There’s a much easier version of the 2nd kickoff that works for all diagonal kickoffs to set the ball to the back corner boost of the person going to the kickoff. Just do a single wave dash kickoff and aim to the inside of the ball and you always get the 50/50 to the corner boost
Respect for doing this in ranked
"Oh he put it into me"! Famous saying be Wayton Pilkin 5:12
5:11 💀 same 😎
the 3rd kickoff JZR used to use that all the time in his "moi moments" clips except person 1 who goes for the ball does a speedflip to hit it to the side to his teammate just trying to beat the opponent to the ball
Ha ha!
You have recreated the Justin goal in an actual match. WAYTON!!! WAAAAAAYYYYYTOOOOONNNNN!!!!! THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!!!
The first one is good to mix up kickoffs. The third one gives you a boost disadvantage and if you don’t score, gives possession away too
