The plant that the monarch butterfly was on is a milkweed. The monarch butterfly can only lay its eggs on milkweed because it is the only thing that it's babies can eat. Monarch butterflies are dwindling in their numbers because many people consider milkweed a weed and pull it. Keep it growing in your pastures it produces a beautiful pink flower, the one you have, and that milkweed is called showy milkweed
Absolutely correct 👊
It is pretty cool that they've restored the pasture enough that monarchs are showing up!
Sometimes people remove milkweed because it's an allergen-producing plant and/or "There are a wide variety of milkweed plants responsible for poisoning and death of horses. These plants grow in a range of soil and moisture conditions, from roadsides and ditches to pastures and rangelands." New Mexico State University
Do they ever have multiples?
Our temps in spring headed to summer are not allowing milkweed to live long either in southeast. 😢
Milkweed! Great plant for butterflies
Correct!
Not to mention the Northern Turtle dove love to eat the seed.
Your daughter is growing up so fast. She is so beautiful like Marissa. She is going to have boys swarming her. Daddy you are going to be a busy dad keeping the boys away from her.
Dusty.....good project for you guys. Raise some monarchs! You tube has great vids. Its THEE MOST AMAZING THING to watch spin cocoon, and its beautiful! Looks like it has gold specks in it. Then, of course the emergence. Brookes would love. Actually you all would. Use one of those fishnet laundry hampers. Put in your house or porch, where its warm.
I don’t know what it is about watching your videos, but the bison for the most part seem so content, just living life, loving their red dogs and doing their bison thing! It seems very grounded and peaceful! Thank you for sharing this!
DITTO!❤
I look forward to keeping up with Dusty and family each day. Love this family raising bison. I’ve loved reading history of Native Americans and their appreciation for the buffalo (Tonkas).. I have a small home library on these animals and the Indianas . Your daughter would love to have a red dog for a pet. New calves… great.
The plant the monarch is on is an Antelope Horn Milkweed. Beneficial to Monarch's and all butterflies
Thank you! It does look like a milkweed, but definitely a different species from any that I’ve seen growing here in Michigan. Not Common or Showy Milkweed or Butterfly Weed.
Hi Dusty I loved your video today. Wonderful bison and birds singing in the background.
Dunbar isn’t being lazy, he being energy efficient.
The Dunbar herd looks relaxed! I’m glad princess Eleanor is in the small herd!
Nothing better than the sound of happy grass munching. I could listen to that and the chirping birds all day. Awesome x
Brooke is going to be a Bison whisperer when she gets bigger.
Monarch will come back year after year to the milkweed. Don't pull or cut.❤❤❤❤
Milkweed is the plant of choice for Monarch Butterflies
The cows don't feel threatened by u being so close to their babies it so nice to see the babies and hear the momma's talking to them they are beautiful thank u for taking us along it's amazing
There used to millons if them. Their migration home point in Mexico was destroyed a few decades ago. They are almost extinct now because of that. Keep that milkweed growing. It's a lovely pasture plant. 💕🙏
Thank you for taking us along for your herd check! The fruits of your labor are beautiful, Dusty, Marissa, and Brooks! Your commitment to conservation is becoming a reality! It makes me homesick for Oklahoma when I see your little family, your pastures, and creeks!
Brooks is so blessed to grow up on the Bison ranch and to have you two, Dusty and Marissa 🙏🦬🙏
You need to get some of those big old fashioned car wash looking brush things to put in the fields for the Bison to rub on and get that fur off.
Oh yes, farms that make water buffalo cheese have them to keep their cows happy!
Dairy farms definitely have them. Cow brushes.
I enjoy your pausing and viewing the red dogs and moms.❤😊
Antelope horns. A type of milkweed!
Dusty love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you and Marissa and Brooke and the bison and other animals
Milkweed is what Monarchs lay their eggs on. I raised Monarchs one year. So much fun!
The monarchs and queens host on milkweeds. They nectar on wildflowers. There are a few varieties common namefor what you have is Antelope Horns Milkweed
( Asclepias asperula).
Lots of red dogs. Good job Big Joe.
Most of the red dogs are from Dunbar and Hoss when the 21 hefers were with them last year.
That plant looks a lot like our milkweed plant and our monarchs love them. We get our monarchs in late summer and early fall. My favorite butterfly. When my sons were little we make special little screen cages and collected the caterpillars and made all they needed in water and feed and cleaned their cage every day. They would then go into their crisaliss and after the right number of days, we would have a beautiful monarch. As soon as wings were dry, they would crawl on my hand and we took them out to fly away. All the sons, grandsons and daughters are kids I took care, all did this me and were so excited about. It was neat how they went home and were telling mom and daddy all about it.
Milkweed also smells wonderful when flowering. And can have some medicinal uses.
Monarch butterflies only eat milkweed and it takes 4 generations in their migration from Canada to the mountains in Mexico.
Hi, That is Milkweed the Monarch Butterfly is on. they love them. that is the host plant they need to eat from. They also lay there eggs on them.
Watching those magnificent bison graze and rest in the pastures is so soothing to my soul! Good medicine!! Thanks for sharing.
All the bison are looking so content! ❤🦬❤️🦬❤️🦬❤️
Thank you Dusty and family for the update on how things are going there in Oklahoma ! Take care , stay safe and healthy from your neighbor in Kansas !
Big joe …typical has a hidden spot in the bushes just like dad's shed down the back - the place to go when there is too much kid noise! Lol
They are all so beautiful. Healthy and Gorgeous.
I love bison! They are such majestic animals, and the calves are adorable! Thank you, Dusty, for sharing them with us!
Thank you for being such a good bison owner. The are so beautiful. God’s blessings
So nice to see your family out together. And to see tour bison all just chillin.❤
Early for Monarchs. Milk weed! Thats Monarchs food
❤ Adorable how the bison reacted to your daughter's voice. These amazing animals love children !
Don't get overly excited about that. They likely associated her voice with food handouts. Even domesticated livestock can harm or even kill a person who is not cautious.
Beautiful wild flowers. I love to see it all, wild grasses & then the butterflies & bees that love it all.
Everything looks so beautiful! Adorable red dogs & so many!!! Great herd! Love you guys out & how interested Brooks is!!💜🙏💜
So pretty I love Butterflies. The monarch are the most beautiful.
Dunbar looks like Ferdinand the Bull enjoying the grass and flowers.
My dad had a registered Charolais bull (cattle) named Ferdinand. Big handsome animal.
Monarch butterflies thrive on the milkweed! Try to grow as much milkweed as you can! I totally enjoyed this relaxing video. It helped me relax a bit despite all the pain I'm in. So, thank you so much! I hate snakes, so I am relieved that you are such a great shot. Stay safe from the storms when they roll in. Hurricane season is starting June 1st and it's supposed to be an especially bad this season. Keeping you and yours in our prayers, from Donna in Florida.
The bison are so majestic.
All the red dog babies! Congratulations Dusty & Marissa on such a healthy herd!
Lots of healthy baby calves
Water snakes are harmless so why kill them? There are very few Water Moccasins unless you are in SE Oklahoma. Leave the beneficial snakes to eat a few frogs and they’ll be happy. Otherwise, thanks for the content. You have a good looking herd of bison.
Some idiots just HAVE to kill anything and everything.
Looked like a Water Moccasin to me. When it was hit, it immediately struck out. It's mouth was wide open, and you could see the pure white inside. Thay's why some call them Cottonmouths.
Milkweed plant attracts Monarchs
That baby stretch is a good sign that the little one has nursed.
Love you all so much! God bless ❤
I’m happy you told us butterflies like milkweed. I’ll be sure and get some of those. Lots of red dogs!🥰 Love to see them! We keep our nonpoisonous snakes on our property because they eat all the poisonous snakes & of course rodents.
✨Thank you so much for your video! 🦬
It is a nonvenomous water snake, it's not going to hurt the bison they eat fish and frogs, and they eat other venomous snakes.
@@janethart7402
I’m always happy to see them on our property. And we have a pet king snake also. 😊
Oooh, milkweed is where monarch lay their eggs..
Monarch butterflies love those milkweeds the most and will lay there eggs on them!
Love catching up with you and the bison 🦬 💕, so beautiful.
Marissa you sure have a good eye to see things. Good job. Love watching the bison. Nice to see all the red dogs after last years sad episodes. Sorry for Eleanors heart break. Maybe next year. How is she doing?
Plant looks like it could be Milkweed-Monarch butterflies love that plant, they even lay their eggs on it. Dunbar is looking good-just resting! So many red dawgs-so many! I think Big Joe’s doing his job….. The bison are all looking good. How’s those baby turkeys Brooke? Great video guys!
Monarchs require the milkweed to exist. That is the only plant they will lay eggs on. When in caterpillar form that is the only plant they will eat. When people clear out the milkweed from an area, they also stop the Monarch Butterfly from having any reason to go there.
Saw you fishing down in Florida. You looked a little green. Hope.you all had a great time in your vacation. Love to all ❤
Big Joe is so majestic and powerful looking. Its no wonder why his ladies love him!!
Kinda ironic that 1500 had the 15th red bull ❤
He or she should be called/tagged #15!
Beautiful and peaceful with the Marcus and birds. Bison look good in all that wonderful green pasture. And the red dogs, so many of them, wonderful to see!
Enjoy your videos
They are calming, your a kind person and your wife and little girl. THANK YOU, GOD BLESS 🙌 💖 🙏 😊

The new red dog is beautiful & because its a South Dakota mom A good name would be Dakota❣️ Will continue watching from SC. Blessings to you Marissa & Brookie Keep on BISON RANCHING❤
Green Antelope Horns milkweed. We have that, but also Antelope Horns which has whiter (less creamy) blooms that look like popcorn balls, pointier leaves. Both have large pointy seed capsules---magenta color in the plain Antelope Horns, and more tan in the Green Antelope Horns that do look something like the horns of pronghorn antelopes. We're in central Texas.
Love all the new red dogs…bison enjoying the grass…and the sounds…

For as big as they are, they can really get a move on! Equal parts cool and scary!
Dusty, in monarch butterflies favorite food is milkweed. . I'm almost sure that's what the plant was in your video.

🐍Well shot Dusty!
Roll of wire: Marissa, well spotted!
All your bison mums look well satisfied with their offspring!
Keep up your informative videos, from Devon UK.
Anytime i see milkweed 😊coming up, i leave it and garden around it. Wh used to have all kinds of monarch butterflys when i was little. Once they started spraying on our county roads killing milkweed along with other beneficial plants. Slowly the butterfly is coming back as the milkweed makes it come back.
I have planted several types of wildflowers and milkweed. I no longer find indiam paint brushes on the fields 😢
't haven't seen a Monarch butterfly in 60+ years.
In Ohio they used to land on milkweed.
Love seeing all the red dogs.
Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven on earth with us 🦬💚🦬
Thank you for sharing. it was nice to see a new video. I've seen on UA-cam that the ranch is not doing well, that's why you have been showing lots of old videos. I would love to see more of Cora and Miya , do you still have the chicken's especially Black Betty. I hope things get better for you and Marissa. God bless you
Did you know that he has two channels? This channel shows new clips on Sunday and Thursday. The Cross Timbers Bison Clips Channels shows short clips from previous videos more frequently. He has had two channels for a long time. Check the name of the channel under the video. I have heard nothing about the ranch not doing well.
This isn’t an old video.
Keep on Bison ranching.love you all.❤
great shot
That was a beautiful snake.😢
In Florida when there are no non poisonous snakes the poisonous ones move in. Just saying.
Milkweed. Monarchs favorite flower.
So fun to see all the new Red Dogs. Your daughter is so cute.
Monarch butterflies live on crown flowers! They hatch from caterpillar s that spin themselves into a cocoon! We had lots of them in Hawaii!
