That is crazy cool how the metal device keeps the cow busy. Much better than trying to restrain her head. Another great job by my favorite vet to watch!
Horses are the same; they just like to be mouthing something all the time. I had a hoof pick that, when new, had a plastic handle shaped like a horse head. I quickly discovered it had a secondary use as a pacifier while the farrier was working on one of my horses. Otherwise, he'd inevitably steal my farrier's hat and use that for a paci instead. The handle didn't look like a horse head for long.
Beef cattle in Australia are in big fields. Hundreds of acres sometimes. They are not handled often. They are nervous, and reactive. That's why the yards and equipment have to be super strong.
Finally! A doc on youtube, in this case a Vet, but it's the same for humans -- who understands that the treatment for an abscess is Incision and Drainage. That's it. Local anesthetic is useless and just makes the process worse. Make a good size opening, drain the gunk, irrigate the wound, and leave it open. Good-o!
@@EnochtheCowVet I've always used peroxide for my own infections, thought the foaming ment it was working, killing the gunk. Takes a vet to teach me better!
I've been cut and poked so many times that the lack of anesthetic for a simple procedure like that doesn't faze me, but I figure most humans would do well with a little bit of topical anesthetic or freezing spray to numb the skin. That's definitely about all the numbing that's going to work unless you nerve block an entire limb or digit though. Hard to nerve block a cheek.
@@EnochtheCowVet A few days after my appendix was removed the wound opened, the pus was unbelievable. I just pushed gauze into it every morning (using the handle of a teaspoon) and drew the gunk out twenty-four hours later. Left it open and it healed. We breed tough women in Wales!

From other vids, sometimes these contain fibrous masses. How does the puss form that material? Or are they the result of something else like coagulated blood proteins? I also like the volume dilution with betadine. I see some just push in hydrogen peroxide. Kills stuff but doesn’t flush the cavity. Thank you.
