Grim Dawn has an entire class devoted to the Goddess of Firebombs called Demolitionist. It has many flavors of FireBomb from Molotov Cocktails to Mortors. Might be worth giving a shot.
@@DocDewrill That is an update, the DLC is going to come in 2024. However, the update is huge, it added a lot of nice QOL changes, including a dodge button. I can't wait for the DLC to come out, a whole new class to toy with (including all the new possible combinations with previous classes)
equipping a dagger would speed up the throwing animation of the assassin, aswell as skilling burst of speed, since your throwing speed is scaled to your attack speed :)
It's amazing for a D2 veteran like me to watch how relatively new players play the game that I know inside and out. Just shows you how little the game actually tells you about itself in-game. Granted, when it was released, it was accompanied by a paperback game guide and nobody does that today, but still. Firebombs assassin for Normal is completely doable no sweat, if you know the tricks. Farm the Countess for Stealth (Tal+Eth) armor runeword and Steel (Tir+El) sword runeword, put that into the fastest base (Scimitar or Crystal sword, the former is easier to find in A1 with 2 open sockets), because for some goddamn reason your trap laying speed is calculated from your attack speed (the game is really counterintuitive in its mechanics sometimes, okay, most of the time) to throw the bombs as fast as you can (Steel gives you a very substantial boost to attack speed and +2 to Mana after each kill) and farm for Nadir helmet (Nef+Tir) which gives you some sweet defense as well as additional +2 to Mana after each kill. Then you can make do with shields socketed with diamonds for all resistances bonus or you can farm Ral+Ort+Tal for Ancient's Pledge runeword or just wait until A5 because those three runes are exactly what Qual-Kehk rewards you with for saving the barbs. Pledge gives a huge boost to all res, more than enough to beat Normal twice over. Any other gear - use whatever you want, this is the stuff that will carry you. Yeah, runewords completely broke the balance of itemization, I know. Anyway, here's that five-page essay that you mentioned in the vid, hope you read this, awesome content, keep it up :D
This is kind of the stuff I hope for in challenge run videos, some explanation ways to make the gimmick usable or what synergies work well. Thank you for the quick overview of some fun mechanics and ideas!
This is the reason I hop into the comment section. As a casual, I find very interesting how much people can push the game mechanics to make gimmicks viable.
As someone who has played this game for 20 years, it was nostalgic to see you play it without over optimizing it. "Get lost in an ice cave for over an hour". Thank You, keep having fun.
I know right? I've been playing pretty continuously since 2000 and it's super refreshing. If you want a playthrough that feels kinda fresh for OGs like us I'd reccomend either going Classic because of no runes, jewels, charms, and skills pre-nerf like WW and Static/Nova. That or a build no one does but is doable SSF (at least that's how I prefer to play, especially now that there aren't RW and Ubers locked to online ladder) like the bladesin, zoo druid, or poison dagger necro ✌️
15:00 Dear Future Lemon, Thawing Potions do remove chill/freeze, but that's not why you use them against Duriel. It looks like a chill, but the slowdown he causes is actually from his Holy Freeze aura, which is not removed by Thawing Potions. The main benefit is the +50% Cold Resistance they give, reducing the cold damage Duriel deals to you.
No Idea If you know this, and It might even get mentioned later, but running will set your armor to 0 and block chance to 1/3 of what It Is. Now, that really only applies to melee focused builds but hey, might come In play later.
That was refreshing. And I respect you for appreciating the journey instead focusing solely on destination.Surprising percentage of D2 players have very little experience with the actual game, they just look for guides, have their characters rushed to the endgame by better players, they never finish the game on their own, they don't know anything about the lore or story. They spread myths they heard (for example, about Duriel's non-existen charge move), instead of veryfing them through their own experience. In shoty, I appreciate someone relatively new actually want to experience the game in their own way.
Yes! Another Diablo 2 run, and a firebomb run ❤! Also, speaking of firebomb only runs, Nioh 1 and 2 has an entire stat and skill tree dedicated to tools like Firebombs called Ninjutsu. They have scaling damage as far as I know, and are actually decently strong AND every element has an associated status effect too. Just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't know.
If you are thinking about playing Diablo 1: I recommend installing the DevilutionX Mod, for a vanilla experience (only qol changes like resolution, enemy healthbars or item visibility) or the Belzebub Mod for a fusion of D1 and D2.
i like the callout to us veterans, i was screeching internally alot in this video of all the things how you couldve made it easier but maybe the fun came from that haha
Thank you for adding the song list into your description! Loved the expired 20% off coupon, I lost mine ages ago. Ah, Cafe de Backlogs, the most sought after place on the Firebomb Academy campus.
I did a pretty much identical run in original diablo 2 lod, but with valhalla mod. That build was extremely bonkers and dealt a lot of damage, only on hell enemies started being an issue
omg i love this game, played it growing up and now im grinding it out again, so glad you're doing another D2 video. First another bloodborne video, now this. Great stuff, always love the videos, very bingable.
For future runs, those synergy skills are really big, and make a great difference in damage, at least, they were in the original. There does come a point where the synergy % boost damage is bigger than the flat boost that levelling the skill itself is.
Plus they don't increase mana cost. Sometimes, with some skills, it's better to level up the synergies first before putting more than 1 point in the base skill, just to keep the mana cost low and let you throw the skill out more times in a period.
@@hypotheticalaxolotl I almost forgot about that part hah. Thinking back, that does explain my Druid build I had, the firestorm skill he starts with is so cheap but extremely powerful if you just pump the synergy skills hah.
Seriously, diablo 2 really has a problem with not explaining virtually any of its mechanics to players. You just have to rely on 50 years of hardcore players parsing out every single permutation of everything ever. And hope the info is still viable after the latest patch.
@@chrishubbard64 in D2R you can see, that your armor is 0. Open your stats tab and look on defense while running. In original there are no indicators to that

Love this. Hope a Poison Dagger run is in our future. Extremely unique way to play. A lot of normally useless affixes becomes super important on daggers like repairs durability, hit causes monsters to flee, knockback so 1. you can keep using the dagger and 2. give yourself space while you're waiting for the poison to kill things. Did you know daggers could have plus to necro skills? I didn't know until I tried it.

I've never played a Diablo game for more than an hour (and that was Diablo 3 in coop) or anything like it, but it was still surprisingly easy to follow along. The explosions also look really nice, I'm kinda surprised.
The Burst of Speed skill would have probably helped you quite a bit with Duriel and it would have only cost 2 skill points. Didn't see what level you were, but Fade might have also helped. I always get those at least at lvl 1 when playing an assassin.
I honestly forgot these items existed in Diablo 2. But then, it's been ages since I played that game so I've probably forgotten a lot of things about it.
Found a couple of "no healing-no farming-hardcore" runs a while ago. Wanted to give that a shot. Suddenly thaw potions are important and every item counts :)
Great video! Wonder if you would ever do a lords of the fallen firebomb run? Seems like a perfect game for you to do that in. Has a lot of different throwables
Anytime I hear the tunes near the end I am taken back to Gunstar Heros. Can't help but wonder if he ever would do a flamethrower/ explosion on run in that game, granted its a sega game back in the 90's.
Wait wait The Gem Shrines upgrade a random gem in your inventory to the next tier? I legitimately thought it just gave you a random gem at a random tier. Shit, you learn something new every day Loved the vid! D2's a very special game to me so was great watching a challenge run like this.
Very well narrated. It is just a bit slow for my taste. I guess it is aimed toward audience that is less into D2R. This is fantastic - increasing the game fan base. 👏
I would be interested in seeing a version of this done in Path of Exile as well. In there you have access to both a poison flask ability and an explosive one. Plus other stuff like a spell that lights you on fire to burn the enemies around you to death!
Counter-intuitively, the amount of armor you have increases your chance to not get hit in Diablo 2. Makes perfect sense really. If you're wearing the heaviest, most immobilizing suit of armor you can find turns you into an absolute ninja and things struggle to hit you. I think Dexterity does give a small amount of armor rating, but otherwise it just influences your chance to block, which caps out at 75%, which is also influenced by your character level. (Higher level means you need more dexterity to have the same block chance as a lower level character) This information is TECHNICALLY in game as you can see the tooltip information change in your stat screen if you're paying attention. (May have to mouse over specific stat measurements in the stat screen itself) I provide this information only because I dunno what else to comment and it's apparently good for the algorithm
Wait, its the Scroll of Inifuss? I've always thought it was the scroll of infuse. Man. Also you know what the loot goblin in me wants to see in these videos? It looked like you got a Legendary Ring form Duriel and I wanted to know what it was ;;
The only thing I'll say about the runes is I typically don't even use them for challenge runs. I think the only runes I use is Ral runes because they are just rubys on meth. They really help with damage due to being +30 fire damage or fire res in armor pieces. So if you ever need quick damage to try and overcome something or tell act 4s bosses to sod off, just kill her a few times to try and get a few. Honestly, runewords are only worth it if you are planning to rush.
Something that I had a very hard time to get my head around with early D2 runs: "Thou shall not level energy." At least not more than once or twice. Early game. You're going to have to chuck anyway. And if it's not mana, it's health pots. The biggest difference is is how comfortable you can be while chugging vs. how often you have to refill your belt/inventory. Gold really isn't part of this equation since around as early as old Tristram anything you find should sell for more than what you spend on TPs and pots. Now yes, with less energy you will have to return more often to town/fiddle with your inventory more. But every death you avoid due to better health is a massive time win, and even the time lost for trips can be negated a bit by the ability to stand smack dab in the middle of trash mobs spamming away. Late game you have enough energy/+mana/+mana gain on gear and just passive +max mana from levels that all these points into energy do you little good. But this also is only true if you're going Hell Baal kill.
Mass Effect 1 is unique in the trilogy in that you get grenades in that game. Very...bizarrely functioning grenades that you toss like a frisbee and have to manually detonate, but grenades nonetheless. I also know it's possible to increase their damage and how many you can carry, but no idea if you can beat the game with just them or not. Could be worth checking out though.
I like the way you played this better than the sweaty way i would've. You could've trivialized this using all the runewords and farming certain things. Much more entertaining this way, too lol.
Just a tip, if you get tired of running out of stamina, literally fill your inventory with stamina potions and just drink them all. The timer stacks so you'll be running a lot and they don't cost much. Also I know it was mentioned with the runewords BUT if you got the chance the Leaf rune word gives +3 to fire skills and mana on kill meaning +3 to your main skill and +3 to 2 skills that synergies with the skill.
You have great content brother. I root for the up and coming every day guys trynna break free from the 9-5 through any means. I hope you get millions amd millions of views man. Best wishes.

The Burst of Speed skill would have probably helped you quite a bit with Duriel and it would have only cost 2 skill points.
Didn't see what level you were, but Fade might have also helped.
I always get those at least at lvl 1 when playing an assassin.
The guy is too powerful, he is becoming unstoppable.
I always love your videos they give me my daily dose of serotonin
The firebomb goddess would smile upon thee in Xcom 2 War of the Chosen
The Firebomb Goddess demands Hell be cleansed!
Literally the only UA-camr I’ll watch the sponsor skits They are actually good, entertaining and funny
Hi, I only post a comment because I want the UA-cam algorithm to recommend this video to more people.
That ad read was GREAT! My new metric for whether microtransactions is "can you beat the game naked in a reasonable amount of time?"
I am hyped for a Diablo 1 challenge run.
Wait wait
The Gem Shrines upgrade a random gem in your inventory to the next tier? I legitimately thought it just gave you a random gem at a random tier. Shit, you learn something new every day
Loved the vid! D2's a very special game to me so was great watching a challenge run like this.
Nothing like getting home from work and watching the new The Backlogs video
Very well narrated. It is just a bit slow for my taste. I guess it is aimed toward audience that is less into D2R. This is fantastic - increasing the game fan base. 👏
Thanks for not caring about the meta game, i wish people would just play and explore instead of ruining my experience with their spreadsheets.
(May have to mouse over specific stat measurements in the stat screen itself)
I provide this information only because I dunno what else to comment and it's apparently good for the algorithm
It always comes back to paladins for you Sir Lemon 😂 that and being mauled by Sir Melon the Malicious
Lol thank you for addressing my screen-yelling. 😆 I’m screaming, yes, but it’s all in fun. Thanks for the video!
There is always the classic "beat with only one type of spell" challenges.
Wait, its the Scroll of Inifuss? I've always thought it was the scroll of infuse. Man.
Also you know what the loot goblin in me wants to see in these videos? It looked like you got a Legendary Ring form Duriel and I wanted to know what it was ;;
The only thing I'll say about the runes is I typically don't even use them for challenge runs. I think the only runes I use is Ral runes because they are just rubys on meth. They really help with damage due to being +30 fire damage or fire res in armor pieces. So if you ever need quick damage to try and overcome something or tell act 4s bosses to sod off, just kill her a few times to try and get a few. Honestly, runewords are only worth it if you are planning to rush.
how about grim dawn demolitionist bomber? (has molotovs and canister bombs)
thanks for the entertaining rerun of D2
Yes! More Diablo Backlogs!
Definitely want to see you do a challenge run for each class now, maybe redo your paladin which a different challenge too.
Something that I had a very hard time to get my head around with early D2 runs:
"Thou shall not level energy." At least not more than once or twice.
Man I love this channel. Comedy gold
This channel genuinely managed to change the way I look at throwable consumables.
Or rather, made me take a closer look at them to begin with.
You have great content brother. I root for the up and coming every day guys trynna break free from the 9-5 through any means. I hope you get millions amd millions of views man. Best wishes.
1st time viewer and a long time D2 player.
This is refreshing to watch.
They should have made that “bomb” skills of the assassin had a boost from the different firebomb types
Nice! Thanks for quality entertainment, Lemon! It was a blast! )
