Great job Dai, this is one of those topics I don’t feel is covered or even understood near enough, especially considering the very nature of the holy grail wars, to include the corruption of the grail during the 3rd, and several cursed Mages such as Shishigo, and several known reality marbles.
you should do something on witchcraft. It's literally just fun magic and it's in the damn rules most 'mages' have a tough time with it. Also, I kind of find it funny (and a little bit overblown) that the definition of a curse is just anything that when utilized comes to the detriment of someone else. If that's the case, Excalibur is one of the strongest curses in the world. Anything the wielder points at vanishes from the world, never to be seen again. It seems like a curse is just ordinary magecraft whose applications as a weapon are so blatant we call them evil...for a strange form of comfort...?
genuinly didn't expect fate/requiem characters to come up. its one of my favorite Fate universes simply because of how great the world building is, and I would argue to say one of the more underrated works.
Thunderclap is basically what you’d think it means. An instantaneous strike of lightning that the user can activate at will to paralyze the cursed victim.
Curse aren't magecraft spells, magecraft is reenactment of a phenomenon through mystic means. In other words a mage pay cost in terms of mana to magic foundation in exchange for a phenomenon to manifest. Curses on other hand don't cost mana ( but can strengthen with mana like like Rin's gandr) neither they can be described as reenactment of a phenomenon but curse are fate/destiny/luck manipulation like gae bolg manipulate causality and make it so opponent is destined to be stabbed etc. That can only be dodge if opponent has very high luck
@@matthewallen2273 That would be tricky. There haven't been any stories in the nasuverse dedicated enough to a plot that revolves around curses to really give us an explanation on how they work.
Honestly in the end this is just very minute differences that don’t qualify to every curse. The very fact remains that many modern magecraft is based upon curses. Zouken himself employs them, as do many other mages we have seen in the series.

Demons in Nasu are simply curses with wills of their own and the 72 demon pillars are used to create Ars Goetia. This collection of curses is what allows modern magecraft to access foundations without the help of the divine and so the distinction is made.

I still prefer JJK curses. It's only wicked because it's personal to the user. And its strength comes from the negative emotions of the user. By it's very nature it's an integral part of being a human not an active persute of maliciousness and The themes and story that can come out of that is amazing even if the user isn't characterized it's impassive and personal nature you can tell a lot about it.
Somehow, it’s my first time hearing about Hassan’s Arm of Shaitaan. It’s quite weak considering Shaitaan is considered the origin of all evil and whisperer of wickedness.

@@morrischerif9097 Which means that any servant that can see through his presence concealment, is faster than Hassan, or has instant-hit abilities can interrupt Zabaniya easily. Plus he has to make physical contact before it can even work which takes him out of his stealth mode. Instant-kill abilities aren't perfect, they can be countered pretty easily and any servant with sufficient firepower and intelligence(or a master who can compensate for them) can take down Hassan as if he were nothing. Cu for example had no right to lose his fight with Hassan. Gae Bolg is for all intents and purposes a better Zabaniya in pretty much every way but Cu just refused to use it before it was too late.

Even regular mages can do it if they know they're being hunted ahead of time(and in a grail war you should really just assume this 24/7). Granted Hassan of the cursed arm has the skill at A+ which does make it trickier. Still it isn't perfect. Servants and masters that know they are being hunted ahead of time are significantly less affected by this skill and high luck stats can sometimes see through it even before Hassan decides to attack(his E-rank luck doesn't help). This brings up the problem of actually using the skill offensively, the moment Hassan decides to make his move, his skill drops significantly(from the wording it probably lowers a full rank or two)/ Granted Hassan has A-ranked agility which can help with his quick in and out assassination but if his opponent had already set up defenses this becomes much harder. From what I can see, Assassin servants are pretty much noob traps in terms of grail wars. They can instantly kill off inexperienced masters or unlucky servants relatively easily but experienced fighters even out the playing field pretty quickly. Servants with high Battle Continuation and protective skills would also give him a hard time...And then of course, we have the sword spammers like Emiya and Gilgamesh(or army summoners like Iskandar) which make stealthy strategy null and void the second they notice you.
I absolutely love listening to these lessons video and honestly makes me wish stuff like modern fantasy was an actual thing. Though this is probably the wrong video to make this comment on. Lol

I record in a closet to minimize noise. Mic placement is important. As for editing I first normalize the recording, then run a combo of EQ, Compression, and a Limiter. For the lessons I also add a small reverb.

No, curses are fundamental to the Common Sense of Man and as such can actually be formed through a great enough intent and will. They can be caused simply by wishing misfortune on someone or by insulting them.

Honestly, this was the worse chapter by far. I guess you know little about it since all information about it is scatered about so I will take point. 1. All those subjects fall into what is called Witchcraft, a domain of thaumaturgy that operates by "recomposes the raw materials in one's own body" while mainstream magecraft could be defined by "recomposes what exists around". In it's foundation is extremely esoteric so it's ideal realm to dump all esoteric subjects such as methods to discern one's time of death, secret arts to obtain influence, methods to attain status and fortune (for men) and methods to gain the favor of influential individuals (for women). 2. This is also the reason BB and sakura's hollow element are ideal for this practice since they come down to "X", a hypotetical number/quality of potential indefinide, can be seen as the other side of the coin of AVERAGE ONE, that give supreme afinity for "recomposes what exists around". In a sense the possession of demiservants doen't differ from BB instaling godess in herself, being a mix of both branchs. 3. As Tamamo's exemplifies there is no fundamental diference between curses and blessings, being shaped by the caster's intentions 4. Clock Tower reject the subject for the same reason they do Runecraft, the dispersion of mystery makes it a unlikely path to the root.

Not necessarily, Shaitaan is also the generic title for evil spirits so it could just translate to "Arm of the Demon" instead of "Arm of the Devil".

I think it depends on the skill but some of them probably count.

Yes curses can be removed. Depends on the circumstance though. Some curses can be broken by destroying the cause of killing the one who cast it.
