      Sounds like you are highly concerned about the safety of your shop. Recently had a friend had her garage broken into, they cleaned her out. Make sure your are properly insured. You'll be surprised how a regular homeowners policy doesn't cover much.

    When you mentioned torsion boxes it reminded me of the planks I used to make for doing siding.
    I would put eyebolts high at the ends connected with aircraft cable & a turnbuckle somewhere in between supporting the center block from below.
    Two of these at 1/3 & 2/3 of the width will make them rock solid.

    Thank you so much for sharing your shop with us! I am really enjoying your channel. Having setup a number of shops I would like to offer up a couple of things I wish I had done differently. Before you go much further take the time to insulate and improve the lighting. A heated shop is so much more pleasant and productive.. Dust collection is a huge time saver as well as saving your lungs. Consider putting something insulating on the floor, concrete is cold, bad to stand on and hard on dropped tools. Be safe and keep the videos coming!

    • @idontthinkso666
      @idontthinkso666 2 роки тому

      I agree. Also having built many shops over many decades, my thought is a wee investment in some infrastructure upgrades will pay HUGE dividends. I say, roll up all 4 of those doors, drag everything out to the driveway, and (1) rewire the shop and add LED lighting, (2) install an Oneida Dust Gorilla and duct it with rigid pipe, (3) insulate the walls & ceiling and install a ductless mini split, and last (4) clean/degrease/epoxy paint that floor and install anti-fatigue mats on every floor space that doesn’t have a tool on it. I did this in my Maryland shop, and it is cozy, warm, bright and useful 365 days a year!

    This was the best workshop "tour" I've ever seen. It's one thing to see what tools a person has and where everything is in their shop, but the workflow idea really ties it all together and makes it all make sense.
    I compliment you on your filming and editing skills, as well. You made it all flow together very well. You created multiple shots of the same thing and tied them all together perfectly. Same with the transitions. Extremely well done.
    This video is a perfect lesson on flow. Whether it be how you work in your shop or how your edited videos turn out. I see many similarities between the two.

    Your tour and workflow considerations took time and thought and I appreciate you doing it. Learning from others, getting ideas inspired by what other people do is pure gold. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t like a more spacious shop, but like building a tool collection, acquiring space is a step by step evolution. And sometimes getting more space is a matter of repositioning tools and equipment...another reason for liking shop tours like yours. I turned my workbench 45 degrees and instantly gained much needed elbow room. My first “shop” was a 4x6 storage closet. And a hammer, screw drivers, a used circular saw and one of the original Workmates was all I needed to start. So I admire your shop evolution, and am inspired to keep doing the same.

    I recently moved to a retirement community. They have a new wood shop there that was moved from a previous location. No one really knew how to set the new shop up until I saw this vid. I explained how you set the table saw in position and it made much of the rest of the shop fall into place. Really great stuff. I'm working on a cross cut sled now, trying to combine ideas from your sleds. THANKS!

      This is actually the video I'd really want to see... how much work it actually is for her to do all the camera set ups and such. It takes me long enough as it is to finish one project, I can't image if I was also trying to film it. It is also amazing at how much the production quality has improved since her first videos... and not because those were bad by any means.

    Thanks for the tour! I have two things maybe worth mentioning. If (if) you need storage cases, I’ve purchased many “Ridgid” stackable cases of various dimensions. They are terrific, affordable, and have a gasket around the lid for keeping things dry (think rust issues). I have purchased a million of those tiny packets of (Silica?) plop them in all of your cases. Hand planes, chisels, etc. keep dry. Michigan weathers and a detached garage like mine mean trouble. Lastly, I purchased a Laguna Fusion2 table saw through Woodcraft. Had to wait a few months for delivery, but my son and I LOVE the new saw. (I still have my Ridgid “pop-up” contractors style saw... but having a great saw is ridiculously beneficial.) I hope this info may be of help! Have a great day!

    Thanks for the knowledge. It is great to see how others would setup their workflow. It gives so many ideas on things people may or may not have thought of. Also, it is great to have an alarm system on your house. Such a nice piece of mind!!! I love being able to see the cameras from my phone when I'm out and when I'm home and just want to check outside... Being able to talk to someone at the door if they ring the doorbell is great!!! They don't know if you are home or not which is great!!! (Also good when the kids try to burn the house down by accident by throwing a pop tart in the microwave for 7 minutes instead of 7 seconds and catch the microwave on fire.) I don't know if you do or not but having fire extinguishers around and easily accessible is a great idea. Thanks for all you do!!!
