- Jesse Ventura looks back on his unconventional path to winning the Minnesota governorship and explains why he would take a similar approach if running for President of the United States. Ventura also says he’s a strong candidate to take on “the two-party dictatorship” and explains why he’d run against the Republican and Democratic parties instead of the specific candidates.

Both sides are afraid him. Both sides hate him. News media would rarely give him airtime. They simply hated and feared him.

I have often thought over the years that the reason they fight so hard to keep the debates between the two parties was in part what Jesse did in Minnesota. I lived in Grand Forks during this time and as a border city with Minnesota our local television broadcast the debates. I remember tuning in and watching because I wanted to see the spectacle of a former pro-wrestler/movie actor debate the establishment guys. Would he threaten to body slam them? I really wanted to see him look at the camera and go into one of those rambling prowrestling monologues about what he was going to do to Norm Coleman on the campaign trail, haha.
What I got was my very first experience of what it is like when you have someone debating a politician and they are not using the same double talk, non-committal bullshit. I was amazed and it left a huge impression on me. I think most Americans are not far right or far left in their politics and they are not interested in or excited by someone who is. Just speaking common sense and fairness and no bullshit goes a long way.

it started with Ross Perot in the 90s. He literally came close to doing it and since then both Democrats and Republicans have worked together to keep third party candidates out of the running.

@Ann Ohalloran You are 100% incorrect. Jesse Ventura knows Donald Trump and has publicly talked about Donald Trump. Jesse talked about himself and pointed out that Trump is very similar to him in many ways. Jesse correctly pointed out that Trump is NOT a true "Republican," such as the Bush family.
Donald Trump publicly explained in 2016 that he is a "Conservative Independent" who was forced to run as a "Republican," because Straight Ticket voting makes it 100% impossible for an Independent candidate to win a National position such as "President."
Bernie Sanders was in the exact same position. Bernie is a Liberal Independent who was elected as an Independent in his home state of Vermont. But on a National level, Bernie was forced to run as a Democrat. This is the entire reason why those true "Democrat" leaders hate Bernie Sanders in the same way those true "Republican" leaders hate Trump.
Jesse Ventura has publicly talked about how both he and Trump are fighters that disrupt the system and stand out from the crowed. That is 100% true.
I'm a Conservative, but I thought Jesse Ventura was an excellent governor - even though Jesse is more on the "liberal" side than Trump is.
I would gladly vote for Jesse Ventura rather than a member of the Bush family, a member of the Obama family, a member of the Clinton family, a member of the McClain family, or any other inbred political family.
Trump has my vote in 2020. But after that I would love to see Jesse Ventura run for President in 2024. I hope Jesse goes back to that nice look he has as Governor with the shaved head and mustache, though. He really looked very sharp like that. In my opinion, Jesse just doesn't look as professional with that current look he has.

Justice Productions I mean, sure, Sanders isn’t corrupted by money like 99% of politicians are. But he was certainly impacted (or one could say corrupted) by his “friendship” with Joe Biden. Any time he’d even mildly criticize the guy he had to preface it with “Joe is my friend.” If he really, truly wanted to win and bring about a revolution, he wouldn’t have given a damn that Biden was nice to him personally. Biden is the personification of everything Sanders railed against for decades, and instead of calling him corrupt he stayed silent while Biden and the rest of the establishment took the nomination right out from under his feet. I think at the very least Ventura would challenge Trump and Biden and expose them for the clowns they are. That’s something I want to see lol.

Daniel J My understanding is that Our Revolution ultimately didn’t take billionaire money because a bunch of their staff threatened to quit if they did. That said, there’s no doubt in my mind that if Bernie had listened to Nina, Bri Joy Gray, and Sirota more and Weaver and Faiz Shakir less he’d have run a better campaign. Lastly yeah, it’s a shame about Jesse, but considering his wife is very sick and she’d lose her healthcare if he left his job at RT and ran for president, I understand his decision.

In 1998, I became 18 and voted for Jesse for governor. During one of the debates of all three candidates where asked about building a new baseball stadium for the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota tax payers paying for it. Jesse objected the idea. At the time of the debate; the Metrodome was 16 years old. Jesse made a point that when a school is 16 years old do we just tear it down. There wasn't anything wrong with the Metrodome. Jesse did not put up with wasteful spending while governor.
As governor, both parties did not get along with jesse. If wasteful spending was involved in Minnesota's lawmakers/ bills; Jesse would veto it. If the lawmakers didn't agree with the veto; they went behind Jesse's back to recall it.
Just think if Jesse was president... We could be saying, " my president can beat up your president".
We only wish he was here in Canada !
