My issue with this movie is how CLEAN and orderly everything was. Dunkirk was absolute chaos, filth, etc. Go watch the scene from Atonement. They nailed what it must've been like.

The evacuation of Dunkirk took place in 1940, when George VI was King, so technically, the *King's* army would have regrouped in Canada.

I dont like the other Nolan movies but dunkirk is just so great.
It was the KING'S Army. Our future Queen (Elizabeth II) was a just a child at the time. Dunkirk most certainly WAS a profound turning-point in the early war. Had those beaches been filled with American soldiers instead of British, you would not have done it down in this disgraceful manner. Nolan's film does the event great justice.
I was part of the Location Crew for the all duration of this film. What the narator got quite wrong, is about the planes. Save one or two Spitfires, all the others and the Stukas where small remote controle planes. And most of the air fighting was film from helicopters (That I supplied the fuel for) ! The Hospital ship was a small replica also, and only half a side of it. And many more things like it. I enjoyed to see all the fabricated models and equipment who where very good copies of real things.
Nolan got very upset with me when he heard me asking who was the idiot who made the back end of a supposed sunken ship sticking out the water with the propeller turning. So my name was removed from the generic :o(

This movie was the final nail in the coffin for me with Christopher Nolan. Turned it off an hour ten into it. He lost every ounce of trust I had in him. It was dwindling for years. But once I realized he hates women, I couldn't unsee it. Good luck finding two woman characters with names interact in one of his movies. It's a shame, because two of his movies are actually pretty good.
There were definitely female pilots during WWII. Why don't YOU make that type of movie then if you're so upset.
