The Wish Klon Centaur Klone has garnered a level of infamy similar to the Original Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive, in no small part due to the mixed reports on it's effectiveness. I'm here to tell you that it is indeed a great Klone but buying on Wish.com is fraught with potential issues which is why we have this video.
The kit everyone is raving about is the ProTaiTone Land Tone Kit, AKA the TTone Klon kit. There's also the Mogoo Pedals Klon Klone but less information is available on that one.
Then you have the Golden Horse Mosky and the "Klon Factory" Klone, one of which doesn't sound right at all, the other does not do the treble boost right.

FWIW, I just reverse engineered the Mosky Klon, and it's a spot on clone of the klon. Right down to the voltages, germanium diodes, op amps, active treble, and power inverter. Mine happens to sound really good. Having an electronics background, and being an accomplished guitarist, I'm pretty confident that this is the real deal. Can't speak for other Mosky Klons. However, the doubt here led me to order a Wish Klon. It's on the way. It will be fun to compare. All said, if it sounds good, it is good...

I'm gonna get one as well ... from AMAZON! even amazon has gotten. a little flaky with dishonest Chinese vendors, but thanks for the tip on landltone, I've seen a bunch of different listings on there and couldn't figure which one to try. I got ripped off on wish, won't shop there again.

FYI, in the follow up I compared the full sized from two different stores and the one from USDream2016 had the right big one (treble knobs are different)… but someone has told me that it’s not 100% consistent. If it doesn’t work out for you I’m super sorry, I’ve really tried my best to make sense of the wish lay of the land but the grounds appear to be ever shifting

I just got the full-size one from wish and it didn’t work. They gave me a full refund and didn’t even ask for the pedal back.

@@ramspencer5492 That’s what I was thinking that it’s probably something simple to fix. But that’s if you know what you’re doing. I have no idea. This one doesn’t have any wires besides for the battery. It a full size Silver with the logo and Chinese symbols. At least I got a refund. Strange Wish let me keep it tho
I put my own together from a schematic. It works great, but you have to make sure you get the right charge pump IC. I first got one with almost the right part number and it squealed like crazy. Then I ordered the exact part number and it was fine.

You can add a battery connector to the kit. In the footage @7:55 it's the two holes on the board bottom right that shows a +and -
Im pretty happy with mine! I use it in chain with a bunch of drives / boosters / pre amps and even a Big Muff all on at the same time. Except for the Klon witch i use as a Solo/Rythm boost.
Im going for a pretty gnarly 70s tone and the Klon works great for fattening up the lower mids.
Throwing in my Wah gives some extra evilness i dont get without the Klon.
Klon goes right after my Boost & Wah & before Mosferatu, Tube Screamer & Big Muff. Boss CE1 Pre Amp goes last.
Sounds great with Amp Sims aswell.
Although it doesnt sound as great as a standalone pedal and the gain knob is pretty noisey so i leave it at right below 1/4. Also ive got a blue LED which is WAY to bright and falling off already. But eh it was 29€..
I got my klon from AliExpress about 6 years ago and it's my main overdrive it's amazing and I'll need to buy a couple more never considered breaking it.
I bought a kit a few years back, probably from ebay, really cheap. I got it only to see how someone else did it, as I started building my own from the ground up. Never got around to those projects.
So I got curious and pulled it out. Logo. Jacks on top. Etc. So pulled out the parts bag and looked at it. Landtone.
When I ordered it, Ihad planned to change our some of the parts to higher quality parts. I have plenty of germanium diodes to experiment with. And likewise with so many of the other parts. The case is horribly thin aluminum. I'm not sure I want to use that, beyond as a template.
I spent the 80's in the electronics field. Soldering I do quite well. Now I'm curious to put this pedal together.
I just ordered the DemonFx K/C Klon clone, which is supposed to be about the closest to the original circuit in design and components of all off the other cheaper clones. I also have a rorary switch that I'l eventually install with several different switchable sets of clipping diodes from an old stash that I have (like NOS - ITT 1N34A, which are used in the real KTR Klon, a set of both Telefunken OA126's and OA128's and a set of Russian D9E's, which are the closest to the original gold and silver Klon Centaurs' .035 foward voltage). I bought one of those Mosky Golden Horse pedals a few years ago when they were only $17 bucks and it's actually not a bad sounding pedal for the money. The DemonFx K/C also has the jacks on the side rather than the top and it was only $28 bucks with $10 dollars shipping on Aliexpress, which came out to about $40 bucks total with tax and shipping. The PCB also says KC(V6.0) Demonfx on it and it has higher quality orange drop capacitors rather than the lower quality box caps on the other clones you've shown.

@@BGBSATX Yes, I have modded some of them like my Boss DS-1, SD-1, BD-2, MT-2 and GE-7, as well as my DOD 250 reissue (to original grey specs) and ProCo Rat II (to original white face specs). Also modded my Vox V847 wah to Clyde McCoy specs and added switchable red and yellow Fasel inductors and a Jimi Hendrix mod to my Dunlop Crybaby.
So I just looked up the demon fx and it looks just like the side jack Klone I showed in the video with an extra decal slapped on?
I'll be interested to see what the Demon FX is like. I have just ordered 2 emon FX darkglass clones for my bass rig and am interested in the king of tone clone (although the ly rock one sounds almost identical to the original on UA-cam comparisons) . I can't believe how accurate some of these circuits and parts are... There is a builder who has done a 68 pedal KOT strip down and his uses exactly the same parts as the original... Insane. I would absolutely but an original KOT but I can't wait 4 years for one. Likewise I have always wanted to try out the DG bass pedals for my live rig but simply can not justify the price tags... They are taking the p...........a little let us know how you get on and I'll do some vids when I get mine.

For sure, I mostly use mine more as a post dirt preamp, sometimes as like a final boost at the end of my chain.

I run a Mosky Silver Horse through a. Marshall JCM 900 High Gain Dual Reverb 50w, I play skate ans pop punk and it works really well. I've stumbled upon the Warm Audio Centavo videos and that's next on my "to get" list
The tubescreamer's tone stack is active and boost and cuts the highs, the one in the rat is passive where it only cuts more or less highs.
I bought the Klone from CNKlone last Fall. It has the logo, the Chinese characters, a Y FACTORY PCB, and the :wrong" treble control. I never gave the Treble control a thought until I saw your video explaining it. Nevertheless, I like it and get great tones out of it. And it was FREE.....due to my getting a complete refund of my cost because of an advertising false claim that I notified them about.
Glad I could help, hold on to it though, I’m working on a video that shows you an easy mod you can do to the Ones with the wrong treble knob. I’m hoping to film the last part of it tonight or this weekend. Long story short if you or a friend have even the most basic of soldering skills it should be an easy fix.
@@BGBSATX FYI.....I just ordered a Wish Klone from USDreams2016...fingers crossed . After ordering, I decided to look at my order history, which showed the Klone I bought (and was subsequently refunded for) from seller CNKlone last Fall. But my order history now indicates the seller was TTone Music Store, and CNKlone no longer exists as a Wish seller. Hmmmmmmm. The Y Factory Klone and TTone Klon circuit boards are nearly identical in component placement , but there are a few minor differences stand out...a couple more resistors on the Y Factory board
@@pcollenyt3683 yeah, what I’ve basically figured out is that despite there being a multitude of “stores” selling this pedal there’s only a few (possibly only 2) manufacturers/distributors and they do it differently.
Again, keep an eye out for my next video, basically even if you get the wrong one it’s super easy to mod it into being a right one.
The treble/tone control will vary depending on the amp, I would think. My main amp is a Rivera, and it's a darker amp. So I wind up having to boost the treble more than BGB SATX seems to.
@@augustusbetucius2931 well, while the difference in how to reacts to the amp will depend on the amp... that is one of the things about using a Klon, you have to like your amp, lol. But whether the Klone you get does a treble boost or just a tone control is really down to the pedal, a boost is a boost, a filter is a filter. How it's different after doing the mod (considering that it's a layout issue and not a knob issue) is beyond my pay grade to explain, but the end results from my perspective are pretty clear.
I’m pretty sure tube screamers do boost high end tho at least the ones I’ve bought which is why I got rid of them

A lot of the coverage I’ve seen has been pretty superficial and I’ve not seen many people really dive into the process of getting one let alone warning people about the duds out there. It seemed like a good public service video to put out there. But the next 4 videos coming up are indeed me trying to explore a lot of nuances about the Klon, you could say I’m crossing that line or I’m doing what all the UA-cam gurus say and niching down for a few videos to better establish a footprint. I’m not sure if they’d tell me to niche down to guitar pedals or a particular pedal like I’m doing but here I am.

I have a hexaphonic in my emerald carbon fiber and I don't think you can separate the strings, even though there is 1 pickup/string. Maybe with the right kind of interface? I have the boss gp10 which is awesome bang for the buck at $250 used, no latency, excellent tracking.

I hope this puts at least some of the discourse surrounding the Wish Klon Klone to bed, as I’ve seen a few who decide it’s no good only to find out they got the wrong Klone. There are other issues I’ll be putting to bed in future videos, misconceptions etc, if anyone has any points they think need challenging let me know!
lol, the "wish" issue was put to bed (for me ) a long time ago. They are thieves. No wonder they don't send you exactly what you order. I gotta say it bums me out a little to see you kinda advertising for "wish". I don't know if it was you or someone else doing a KLONE video, but I thought "I'll go for it, what's $30-$40 gamble. And if that's no big, get some fake Nikes while you're at it. Too bad they're thieves and I never got either of them, yet supposedly they were"delivered". I hope we end ups finally going to war with China.

I need to test it and see how the treble knob works (been a busy week) but I’m concerned because although it has the decal on it the pcb board is black. In a fun turn of fate I’m now talking to the seller on Instagram and he said the factory that makes them (????) changed the color of the PCB board. Will let you know what I find in an update video

BUT, I also have found a lead about how to do an easy mod on the treble circuit on the ones that aren’t right and I am looking into it, it may be a cheap/easy fix if you’re handy with a soldering iron or know someone who is

@@Germinalx well, you can cancel the order (they claim to be cool about returns and it’s easy to cancel if all you did was order it just now) or you can see if I do find a fix.
The guy who told me about it isn’t responding, but my neighbor across the street is an electrical engineer who knows how to solder and can read a circuit diagram… I may just tell him what I know and see if he can figure it out.

Not that I can hear or see, looks and sounds like the same chipset.
This is only talking about the proper Wish Klone though, for other companies (Mosky for instance) I understand there might be some differences.

@@colescorner8153 in my follow up video I verify that you should NOT get the ones with the lettering, the treble knob acts like a tone knob and does not boost like a true Klone.
As far as USDream2016, I noticed that last week and wanted to do a quick video about it but just haven’t had the time. I don’t know what happened to them, at this point I’m either guessing supply chain issues (like everything else) or maybe a copyright suite because they used the Klon logo… but I’ve also noticed that there are a lot less wish listings for Klones and the prices are going up. Honestly, at this point I can’t tell you which one to get from wish, but I will tell you that it’s not worth the $100-$150 that some of these listings are trying for.
For around the same price you can get the NUX horseman or a TC Electronic Zeus drive, I plan to do a shoot out with them to get more details but in my initial looks at them they do all of the Klone things right, IE clean boost, distortion sounds right, treble boost.
If you are really hard up for the wish Klone (and it’s a good pedal imo) you can still find the LandTone Kit on Amazon if you or someone you know can solder it.

All I know is when I tried to get a Klon clone and a pair of Ben & Jerry's Nike fakes on Wish, they ripped me off. I guess I got what I deserved, but I thought Wish would guarantee their vendors like amazon does. They do not. They claimed the stuff was delivered, it never was. The $30 for the clone was one thing, but the nikes were $130. Wish ripped me off as far as I'm concerned. I will never shop there again a I would advise anyone else.

Also, I have deliberately NOT set up a UA-cam account and until a few days ago, didn't comment at all since disliking the whole thing 15 years ago. I think google and Fb are really bad things as the owners are predatory and monopolistic. I wonder how many cool options we would have if these guys weren't so greedy. I got the full size Silver clone with the logo on the front and the Chinese words under Centaur. It didn’t even work. lol Wish gave me a full refund and didn’t even ask for the pedal back.
I addressed this partially in the follow up, the ones with the Chinese Characters seem to be knock offs of the knock off. I was telling people to go with usdream2016, but apparently that’s not reliable either.

The treble knob doesn’t boost, the circuit has all the treble all the time, the pot is counter reverse(meaning it’s working when turned down), so when the treble is turned all the way up/clockwise it is not dumping high freq to ground and it’s actually doing nothing, when it’s turned all the way down/counterclock, it’s actively dumping high freq to ground and doing something, this is the way 99% of eq circuits work
Yeah, that’s how your typical Overdrive pedal does it. But that’s not how the Klon Centaur does it. It is a treble boost once the knob is past 10/11 o’clock, before that 10/11 o’clock the knob is a low pass filter like most overdrives.
On one hand I do have a video comparing the wish klone to an OG centaur, and you can hear it but it’s not like a super big point of the video (I was not yet aware that some klones have the issue of not having a treble boost like the OG) but also in like… 3 other videos I have bits comparing the how the treble knob works or doesn’t work compared to an accurate klone.
@@BGBSATX I made an assumption there because that's how they do it 90% of the time at least, i looked at the circuit and your are absolutely correct ! B side of opamp 2 is amplifying treble👍🏼
Sorry this will be long..but please read. I saw music is wins video on the klon clone so off I went to Wish. Bought from a seller called dewesa. I was very specific about choosing my seller as it had to be top mounted jacks and I wanted the same one M is W bought. I checked out his listings and all pictures then I ordered the pedal for £41 Inc p and p. So about 60 USD. (Not the 30 USD M is W managed to get one for) and I was sent a Moskey POS..... Now what was incredible was he didn't have small or big options on his ordering page or any photos of a Moskey pedal...so I contacted wish CS.... Utter joke..explained the situation..they sent me a return code for the UK Post Office service and explained I just needed to photo it..wrap it..send it off and I would get a full refund...so I packed the pedal up and went to my local Post office. To be told " This isnt a post office number or parcel force number dear" ..WTF...well done Wish....So more confused than ever on the way home I popped into my local Hermes...yup..it was a Hermes tracking number so I sent it off. No response from seller within 10 days so back onto Wish CS ....hopeless. They eventually put me in touch with the seller direct.....he said I ordered a small one... I explained there was no option to buy a small one so he sent me a screen grab of my order... There it was.... a Moskey... I was like...WT actual F.......But luckily I had grabbed a photo at checkout of my purchase ..a big one...I explained that I buy loads of pedals.... I would never spend £41 on a Moskey pedal as they are readily available on Amazon for £25 Inc prime delivery and in my opinion aren't even worth that.... it is a different circuit and I have to have top loaded jacks for my pedal board.... Seller went quiet...wish CS washed their hands and to date I have no pedal and no refund...it was an utter scam. I have since bought a proper big one from a different seller with no issues..... So even having done due diligence I still got ripped and trust me you want nothing to do with wish CS...so the Seller was DEWESA... Marketed as Chinese but the returns office is in Germany... AVOID....AVOID.... AVOID I have deleted the Wish app and will never use them again.
Wow, that sucks man, I’m not the only person to have bought from dewesa, but this is the first time I’ve heard any complaints about them. Hopefully more people see this comment.
@@BGBSATX I have bought a fair amount of stuff from China over the years... Nearly all without issue....This was my first time using Wish.....thing is as soon as I saw the pedal I got that sinking feeling. . Also the whole way the Wish CS complaints is done gets you ending up In a sort of text loop because of the pre populated nature of the potential answers they give you to use. . never again....anyway it was about 10 months ago now so it's water under the bridge....just enjoyed your video and wanted to share my experience. I just thought both Wish's and the seller's attitude and business practice was wholly unacceptable during this process. I know there are reputable dealers out there and this could have been a one off incident...but once bitten.... so very much Buyer beware.... Love your content... Maybe I'll do a video...😁
You can always file a dispute with your credit card company (ALWAYS buy with credit card). Can individuals sell on WISH..DEWESA may have beed a Seller wanting to dump his defective Klon Klone.
Wish ripped me off also. Their customer service is a bad joke. I don't know why I didn't get the charges reversed through my card company? I will never go near wish again.
