This basically taught me everything i needed to get started with lighting/compositing, thank you! I've lost count of how many times I've sent this to people looking for after effects tips.
I'm making a film in just a few weeks that uses this method heavily! I saw it on twitter earlier and I was praying that it would show up as a tutorial and sure enough it did! Super helpful stuff, thank you so much =V
I've been trying to learn this for years and never found a solution until now. This really helps and is exactly what is needed to take the creativity to the next level! Thanks a ton!
i can't tell you how happy i am for this. it's been my dream to animate since i was a pre internet cartoon network kid, but it always felt out of my reach. i've been learning after effects for a couple of months and your tutorial finally made me feel i can do this. THANK YOU
Haven’t been able to make animation in my free time due to my university coursework and making costumes but I’m definitely looking forward to following these tutorials, this channel is perfect and your animation is amazing!
This Tutorial was almost ground breaking for me. To learn how to light your 2D characters in aftereffects. Have used it many time since then. THANKYOU SO MUCH!!
I remeber when I watch this in high school geting inspired to persue animation but dont know how to use after-effect. Now in my first year in college animation, i get to learn adobe stuff. Now I finally understand and can use the tricks.
This is a super cool tutorial! I really appreciate artists who show their process, and showing that experimenting with it and doing what feels right *to you* is best. It's a great launchpad to trying out new techniques and styles.
for the scene that the dog dancing under the trees, I think the shadows should go right up rather than left and down. Well you did a really great job! thanks for the tutorial
This is super helpful! I am looking to do a composite a new film we are working on, particularly how to light up 2D characters. Definitely gonna try this out! Thanks a bunch!
OMG thank you so much for this, I saw your tweet and I was wondering how did you do it. You are a huge inspiration for me since I can't afford college, THANKS
Amazing tutorial but I have a question: Say if a character walked behind a table, and the character wasn't behind but was on top of the video, is there a way to somehow Mask the character so the character can walk behind the table?
Very helpful tutorial! Thanks. The only problem I seem to have is with the inner shadow/linear dodge. I have a lot of movement in my animation, and the inner shadow doesn't seem to work well on that. While on yours it looks very sharp and clean.
Thanks Toniko, this is explained in the most humble and honest way.. The outcome is Beautiful. Quick Question: can a Animation made in adobe animate be used as well as i dont have tvpaint? Btw You got yourself a fan & a subscriber 👍🙂 keep motivating! Bro.
So cute I like it camera shake is cool. Now I wanna buy bisplay for make animeion what size is big enought for it? 27" 32" now I use 17.3" on notebook. Timeline and tool panel is too big now I dont've space for drawing.
Hi, im learning Adobe Animate and I had a question about using animated character in real world. Im filming real videos of my house inside where my character will be interacting with and my question is this. Any good resources or tips I can blend with Masking to make character feel more real when interacting with real objects? Im learning to understand masking more and maybe this example will help explain what I want to do...ex: my character is in bed and the bed is rreal video. Now if I want the character to move around the bed while he or she is sleeping, the bedsheet/cover will also have to move with character. I want to save time by not creating an animated bed cover sheet, but keep the real bed and bedcover and use masking for bits and pieces where the character will move around while sleeping and use color filler to blend the color of real bed cover with part of the animated mask of the cover sheet so it moves with the character while he or she is inside the cover. Basically , if the character turns to the right side of the bed, partanof the real bed cover sheet doesnt move and part is masked and animated to move slightly to make it more integrated and real. Not sure if this is good practice or faster way to animate, do you have better suggestions/tips/hacks and even resources to learn more on this?
i would love to try out this effect, but i have no blank stock footage of a 2D animation like this. Is there a library of some sort I could access characters with different clips of the animation at different angles and doing different things?
That dog in the opening always gets me
Surprised I haven't seen him in e621

Something that really helps sell this effect is the movement of the caracther that conveys a sense of volume.
