Thank you! I’m doing an animation and I didn’t use arch’s at first, or anything and the shape and design kept changing all the time and by the end all of the limbs and proportions were completely different. I re-did the whole animation and it’s a lot better
I've been doing this for years but thought I was "cheating" but it made my animation so much easier and faster. Thanks for the tutorial! Your work is Great, Can't wait to see more from you!
Kaloian Tcherkezov I think it’s only cheating when you trace your design from someone else’s art but then not giving credit. As long as the original design is all by yourself, you sure can trace your own artworks.
There really is no cheating, just...faster and smarter ways of doing it. Stealing other's art is the only form of cheating I can really think of. Making the most out of your tools and ideas is definitely not cheating

Beginner here with a tip I learned the hard way: When using that tracing method, do be sure to try and keep your lines clean, or at least not super sketchy where the exact shapes are not entirely clear. Trying to make an inbetween of two super rough shapes makes it very hard to determine where to place the new lines, and creates a shape that changes throughout the frames While sketching it out helps get the feel at times, do practice at sketching with longer lines than chicken scratching the whole thing with thick brush sizes
@@Broeckchen Mmhm, every artist is different and have their own techniques that work, but its a thing to keep in mind when trying to retain shape throughout Like some folks are able to just mentally keep track of their proportions

I’m REALLY new to animation I got into it to pass time in quarantine and it’s really fun, I keep drawing to many inbetweens, and I feel like I don’t know how many frames to draw per scene, any tips?
The secret is learning about timing and spacing. The space between the drawings defines if the character or object is moving slower or faster. The time it takes between one drawing and another will define how long the action lasts. There are free videos on YT talking about the 12 fundamentals of animation, and timing and spacing are among them. By knowing these basics you'll start to have an idea of how many drawings will be needed. Keep practicing! Glad to know more people are taking up animation this quarantine, let's all have fun!

I recomend have a good character design sheet, because, this help to maintain a good proportions in the animations. and practice for warming the hand a bit before make definitive animations drawings
Hey Toniko! Super ince tutorial! I'll be sharing with my students. BUT! For Toon Boom Harmony, did you know you can use the shift and trace directly in the camera view? Kuddos! :)
This was actually the very first question when I sat down to draw my first rough sketch for my very first animation. I drew a pose 1 and then wanted to do keyframe sketch 2 where the person had moved quite a bit on the canvas and I was like: "Wait... how in the world do animators prevent a person from unintended shifting in size or overall shape between far spaced out keys??? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" Thx for that excellent video. In case someone wants to use CSP: Use the "Light table" for inbetweening. You can turn/move/scale there w/o changing your actual frames just like he explained for other tools.
I used the trace and place technique before even knowing how to keep my drawings consistent. I didn’t really know how, so I just tried it out and it worked well. The first times when I tried it, I felt so bad because I thought it would count as cheating. But then I learned that you are allowed to use tricks and different methods to work with animation. Thank you for this video! I think you described all of them, but mostly the trace and place very well!
That's a rather easy solution, build a turn arround reference sheet and then you have a ready angle of the character to copy no matter what direction the character is facing. Then tween their expression to what fits.
