Small correction to Serpents Embrace at 14:56. I said jumping with your jump pack but it's actually tied to grav jumping with your ship. This is actually worse than I thought, because that would get extremally annoying when you are doing quests or anything for long periods of time outside of your ship. I made this video on Tuesday, and I didn't notice the error until I was about to post the video.

Minor correction: Serpent's Embrace says Grav jumping not Jump Boosting. I'm pretty sure it means using your ship's Grav drive to Grav Jump in space nothing to do with boost packs. On a side note the use of a serpent residing in space as a deity in scifi is a long running trope based around Jormungander, Nidhoggr, Marduk, Bahamut, Tiamat, and many Asiatic wyrms such as the Lawu which are all based on the concept of a serpent like entity residing in "The Heavens" or space as we would call it today. Glad to see House Varuun keeping the tradition alive XD Edit: Sorry Swany your pinned correction didn't show up until i posted this but ill keep it up since some people might like my side note lol.
Made my first character literally 2 hours ago and was unsure of the traits and background I ended up grabbing. Seemed I didn't do too bad of a job - Industrialist, Alien DNA, Terra Firma, and Wanted. However there were a few other traits I really wanted to grab for RP purposes but wasn't sure if it'd be a good idea in the long run. Thanks to this I think I'll remake my character and get Bounty Hunter, Wanted, Terra Firma, and...something else, not sure yet. Might stick with Alien DNA because while healing will be affected, having more oxygen may be very useful in the long run.
I made my character resemble Adoring Fan. My traits are adoring fan, kids stuff and wanted. I really like wanted. I haven't found AF yet and I like the parents. If you have ever played a Bethesda game you know lockpicking is a must skill. My start was a little rough but it's getting better now that I have learned what to do.

Awesome video, thanks for the super helpful info.! Starting my first playthrough later (working the last few days, so I had to wait patiently, wasn't easy, believe me!!), and now I have all of that ready to go (will go with: Bounty Hunter, and then: Hero Worshipped, Extrovert to pair with that & Wanted, because I don't mind being hunted & I want the low-health buff)!! 😊
Thanks for this character tutorial it was very helpful. I think I will go with your suggestions on my first run through. Still waiting for the game to go live. I'm on the left coast so it's supposed to have dropped on Steam by now. Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the video!
You can max out the stelth on the first planet, and you can max out flight, and targeting at the uf flight simulator.. and uf will give you 200k if you finish all 6 waves. Granted its a kobayashi maru (you need to cheat) you need lockpicking and persuasian.
Why would you avoid base building early on? A couple small outposts mining the basics like iron and aluminum sets you up fast for both xp and money and you don't need to worry about stopping to tap every node you come across outside of hnigher tier mats (until you have outposts set up for them as well).
Alien DNA is absolutely worth it for all the running around you have to do. If you are worried about health max out the dueling perk (melee kills replenish 10 percent of health) or put points into wellness. You can always sleep on your ship or in beds in the dungeons. I feel like I hardly ever run out of o2 with ADNA.
4th restart. Combat Medic to help people without using up a Med Pack. Alien DNA for more health, Terra Firma for more health, Wanted as I saw someone say it helps with the AC bank job. Going full health skill ASAP. Shotgun instead of Pistol. Like the Medic in Warface.
Ended up here after almost an hour in character build. Wow Kid Stuff and Hero Worshipped sound better than I thought. I figured Wanted would add more fun to exploring and Taskmaster could be useful. Cyber Runner makes sense if you have to actually unlock sneak and lockpick to use them. Good stuff!
@@wwm84 I prefer Taskmaster or Extrovert over Wanted. Especially with Persuasion. Wanted got annoying so I found a way to permanently remove it. Almost everytime I grav jumped the same 3 spaceship bounty hunters would be there waiting to either extort me for 2000 credits or engage in combat.
I picked wanted, and I was set upon 2 or maybe even 3 times in my first day of playing. but I haven't been attacked since, so that was a bit unexpected. But everytime I'm on a planet now and I hear engines of another ship landing, I get paranoid... Hahaha
I have heard the Freestar Collective gives you a lot more money for their missions and this can be huge... and that the bounty increase is not really noticed much. I have also heard that the athletics is a must as is the jetpack and pilot. Lockpicking too.
I'm interested in: Dream Home Hero Worshipped Kid Stuff Taskmaster Wanted So hard to limit myself to only 3 lol. I wish Adoring Fan was a quest reward, like in Oblivion.
I wonder if you skipped the lock picking skill, would basilistics or gastronomy be more important because you'd find so many fewer weapons and medical items?
or skipped the lock picking skill and take crafting. make all your own gear. worked well in other Bethesda games. i do not know how hard it is to find/buy the materials.
Dream Home + Hero Worshiped + Kid Stuff gang This was the most neutral character I could conceive of for a first playthrough. Felt like a rich kid down on his luck with a home about to be foreclosed and my ship already having been reapo'd or something.
EDIT: Turns out it's only +50 max HP, and 10 more seconds of running worth of O2 so... maybe not as worth it as I thought. I see Alien DNA as an absolute bonus. More max HP/O2 and you can easily heal out of combat with 1hr of a bed/bench. Food is garbage, med packs are sufficient enough for in-combat purposes even at the reduced rate (which wasn't much from what I've tested). Although I don't know how MUCH more max HP/O2 you get from not having it (like whether it's % based or a flat buff) 🤔
I decided to use console commands to give myself skill points and or perks. I am playing a Single player game. I am not going to get 82 skill points to unlock it all and then inside 4 skill point ranks for 328 points. Yes I know you don't need them all. But my point is I want the ones I like and seem fun and useful. I am not going to NG+ the game 4 times over. I am not going overboard with this solution and the beauty is that even if you somehow unlocked all the perks. You still have to rank up each level inside each perk. So if you don't use it, it won't happen. So it's not like you would have "all" perks anyway. You would just 'organically' end up using some of them based on your actions in the game. I mean like Weight class. It just ends up giving me more room to carry more. It's just a way to avoid an artificial "game nuisance". Oh noes I have to run back to ship to off-load my inventory bla bla. It's just an annoyance. Same with lock picking. It will still require me to rank it up. There are some perks I would be more careful with and that is the damage increase perks. I am not going to go overboard on them. Because then you become too powerful. But ability to make better mods, scan better, pilot better, more weight capacity, stealth and security. These are just QOL perks (Quality of life).
id go off the role playing elements as well.... i did kid stuff, hero worshipped and im having trouble with he 3rd but either gonna be Wanted or Neon street rat
Vehemently appreciated, as well admired is your clear goal :> If future non-adsense then please just place at very front/back/both rather than interrupting TV-style, as it kills the flow, and we increasily aware of YT's low pay and will watch non-adsense if mutually considerate ^^;; As for trait, I am thinking Wanted, Hero Worship, and then between the crew/repair, Terra, and Dreamhome. Kidstuff would actually be too emotional for reasons, plus the immersion would stress me out thinking the Wanted would make parents vulnerable.

Fantatsic video squire , i actually picked bounty hunter but the traits advice you gave was extremely helpful , thankyou.
Good stuff!
Wanted is great because it's basically free xp and materials. The bounty defenders get a little annoying though when they start stealing your kills.
Grav jumping is warping from system to system. It's not about the jet pack.
great breakdown, this is always hardest part for me. decisions.....
I love that you have to "unlock" the security perk ;)
Does extrovert and hero worshipped work well together?
Good job on that. Helpful. Can't wait to play Starfield.
As an introvert, can I still use crew members on my ship? Or is that enough to negate the trait?
Chef of course! Chef Prigozhin, wanted, taskmaster, neon street rat
Haha XD. Sadly a lot of people here probably wouldn't even know what you're talking about
I picked wanted, and I was set upon 2 or maybe even 3 times in my first day of playing. but I haven't been attacked since, so that was a bit unexpected. But everytime I'm on a planet now and I hear engines of another ship landing, I get paranoid... Hahaha
Just starting the game this was very helpful❤
I have heard the Freestar Collective gives you a lot more money for their missions and this can be huge... and that the bounty increase is not really noticed much. I have also heard that the athletics is a must as is the jetpack and pilot. Lockpicking too.
I'm interested in:
Dream Home
Hero Worshipped
Kid Stuff
Taskmaster
Wanted
So hard to limit myself to only 3 lol. I wish Adoring Fan was a quest reward, like in Oblivion.
finally the guide i was waiting for thank you.
thx a lot for make this vid, very advisable!
Feels like money not really an issue if you are a loot goblin. But level 1 commerce really good as it’s just 10% more money
I’m more interested in how these effect dialog and how your perceived in the world. Rather than their stats
I wonder if you skipped the lock picking skill, would basilistics or gastronomy be more important because you'd find so many fewer weapons and medical items?
It might make up the difference. But then you have to loot all the ingredients that you need to make food.
or skipped the lock picking skill and take crafting. make all your own gear. worked well in other Bethesda games. i do not know how hard it is to find/buy the materials.
Dream Home + Hero Worshiped + Kid Stuff gang
This was the most neutral character I could conceive of for a first playthrough.
Your character looks like the hero from The Princess Bride. Westley.
Thanks, great video, very helpful
Really appreciate the video and the lofty goal. Subscribed sir.
I appreciate you making this video now I know which trait to use. 😎💪🏾
TBH - this is an RPG game, everyone should play it as wants to. Overpowering character is opposed to RPG in my opinion. It is more for casual players.
True i went pilgrim introvert/empath/wanted myself cause it fit the character i wanted to roleplay
Very cool and useful vid man, keep it up
Vehemently appreciated, as well admired is your clear goal :> If future non-adsense then please just place at very front/back/both rather than interrupting TV-style, as it kills the flow, and we increasily aware of YT's low pay and will watch non-adsense if mutually considerate ^^;;
As for trait, I am thinking Wanted, Hero Worship, and then between the crew/repair, Terra, and Dreamhome. Kidstuff would actually be too emotional for reasons, plus the immersion would stress me out thinking the Wanted would make parents vulnerable.
Great video man thanks!!!
so glad i watched this before playing, thanks
Does anyone know if you can go back and pick your traits? I think i pressed A before picking them and now i dont have any traits..
It's hilarious how he says these are bad perks while other guides show how great they really are.
