I feel bad for the people who may listen to gamespot or ign that this games a 7. I'm about 10hrs in and its a solid 9 atm frustrated with encumbrance but after watching some tips about storing inventory on my ship my games gonna be a 9.5 soon. Think its just a solid , fun game. Played for 8 hours this morning and feel like i got nothing accomplished its just so huge, so much going on.
Nah 7 is accurate. The game is good but it’s not what they advertised it as. It’s not a space game, it’s a good fps with some space stuff tacked on. They tried to make it more interactive with managing power but really that’s just a tedious gimmick. Several other bonehead decisions keep it from being top tier.
Thing is, a lot of people think a 7 rating is bad but it's actually not, not by a long shot. 7 is pretty good and so is Starfield, although I'd rate it an 8 to 9 so far...
If you have Stolen items they have a red mark, sell to the trade authority in person and then use the buy back menu to get them back with no stolen tag.
I landed at a POI I had completed, dropped the Red resources on the ground, and most of them flipped to good. Next time I steal a pirate ship I will wait to loot (other than bodies) until I register it, then loot, then sell the ship. or rebuild it into a custom design… maybe a nimble “fighter” like the training ships at MAST HQ sims?
@@BlessThePotato yeah, but I want to flip the resources into Mine in my inv. I just stole another landed pirate ship. I registered it at Wolf/Den. Now all that contraband aboard is mine. Lost the red. Lol. Saved when landing elsewhere, to test this, and g2g. I want to put ALL the resources into the Constellation house to research & craft, until I can upgrade my ship & then go start an outpost. Lol.
Another tip for the Mining Laser: hold the aim button down then fire the laser, it will mine resources in a split second saving you a massive amount of time.
Thanks for the bonus tip. I'm waiting (impatiently) till Wednesday, but took some time off. When you exit the scanner, does it change back to your prior weapon, or am I going to be going into combat with my mining laser equipped, all the time? :-D
For stealing objects in the open, you can pick up a neutral object and push the things off into a bucket or something like that. Then carry the bucket to somewhere hidden and steal those things.
when picking locks work from the inner ring to the outer ring. just line them up, makes expert and master easier to pick as you will then know what is need on the inner rings.
Not sure if I glossed over it, but when you are at a crafting table, look at the bottom and it says "Track" and look st the corner at the ingredients. It will place a magnifying glass icon on items you can loot to use for that crafting/research. Takes the guessing out of knowing tje components you need.
Pick up an item that doesnt have the red stealing mark and use that to push the item you want to a place where you're hidden and then steal it. I've done it a few times now.
Counterpoint, keep your mining laser on favorites on the hardest to get to ones, that way you don't see a weapon without a heart and decide to sell it.
If you have an item with Chameleon, just crouch behind and attack shopkeepers with a melee weapon. They might run outside, but they’ll come straight back in. Rinse and repeat until they’re on the floor. Loot for a few seconds, then repeat. While they’re on the ground, they’re basically blind, and because they never see you attack you don’t get any bounty.
Extra tip, you can't move and steal item but u can use other items to move stuff. Let's say you see a weapn on a shelve. Pick up a bucket or trashcan and use it to push the item you want behind a door or wall. As long as u are not visible u can steal without a problem
Best advice I have learned for starting off is take your time 😅 I have not even done the 1st Mission I am level 6 😅 already at 🤔 24hr+ 😅 Just take your time ❤
For People that have shadows and black location bug ( I think a lot of people with nvidia will have this bug) Found a fix: Go into the game and reset the graphics options to default, now close the game and exit Steam. Go into Nvidia control panel > manage 3D settings > set shader cache size to unlimited. Go to appdata > local > Starfield. Delete Pipeline.cache. Restart computer. Run the game and after the main menu screen, IMMEDAITELY close the game, delete the cache file again and boot the game once more. Wah-lah, the problem is now fixed. These are the exact steps I did to permanently fix the problem. Good luck.
Just on the mining laser It actually counts as a laser weapon and benefits from the laser skill Early game this is a very good weapon to use (can’t comment if it stays good, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t as you upgrade the skill) I highly recommend if you don’t want to worry about ammo to invest in the laser weapon skill immediately
Another quick tip for you folks. If you aim the mining laser, it focuses the laser allowing you to pop resources near instantly instead of hold it down for a few seconds.
One thing I would say aswell is join the crimson fleet as soon as possible get good guns from the missions and the piracy and smuggling quests from the mission board helps you stack credits fast plus who doesn’t want to be a pirate I also found it helps with persuasion in certain instances being associated with them
These are great tips, thank you! You definitely need that boost pack skill early, as it seems you can come across a 'skip pack,' the one with the most boost quite early. They're really useful things.
One thing I found is that shotguns still stack with the ballistics skill. My shotguns are one or two shotting most enemies as I have a 20%increase on shotgun damage and 30% on ballistics so it's basically 50% extra damage and both skills are very early unlocks
To add to the first tip, I'd say play the main story till you get and complete Into the Unknown. I will not spoil anything, but all I'll say is its worth waiting to do that mission first before taking on the universe!
If there is one tip I can give after 30+ hours in, READ EVERY book you come across. Not only are they one of the more efficient credit to weight items in the game, many unlock specific quests or locations with decent rewards and great areas to explore
Is it similar to Skyrim where pressing open on the book will instantly add a quest (potentially)? I complete forgot about this and have been ignoring books!

I've seen so many "WOWEE ZOWEE GET THESE ENDGAME ITEMS NOW!" videos plastered on UA-cam and I'm like dude, I JUST joined Constellation! I'm glad to see content creators like you that don't forget about the little guys.
Other than the bucket trick from Skyrim you just have to change it up, you can use the buckets to move the items out of view and it wouldn't count as though you picked them up because you're using a bucket to move them, it's pretty funny really.
Much like putting your weapon away will make people not hostile towards you if you goof up and hit someone. Same thing happens in space if you ignore a hail, from being scanned and what have you. If you hail one of the ships that's shooting st you, they should stand down and give you dialogue options to surrender

I’ve read some of the more harsh reviews of this game (and I can even understand some of the criticisms), but I’m having a ton of fun with this thing (I’m about 12 hours in). People seem upset about the menu business, but I think it works well - flying around empty space was the most boring aspect art of No Man’s Sky. This game streamlines that, at least for me.
We're seeing the menu options that, say, a Star Trek ensign would see as they poke buttons & scroll thru menus on the Enterprise D+. Just because it's not a field of colored buttons… (or is it?) it's still functionally the same & works pretty well.
Grab non value items like a trash can and sweep things to a new area where your hidden to steal them. So you can move them just don't pick it up until your sneaking and your hidden
Two more important tips: As he stated, do the main quest part where you go to Neptune. You'll find a "note" about a Hidden Outpost. Read that, and it will start the Mantis quest. Load up on ammo and meds, and be lvl 8 or higher. Lots of tough fights, but will give you some hella good gear and a much better ship to get started thru your beginner levels. And then also let's talk resource storage. Your cargo holds can only hold so much. You can either get into 'outpost building' and make solid, liquid, and gas storage containers, or you also have an unlimited storage container down in the basement of the Lodge, which you gain acces to thru the start of the main quest. Use it, otherwise face being encumbered all the time.
I found the mantis note on the first moon. It was on the spacer outside the base filled with Terrormorphs. Be careful the terrormorphs were to hard for meto kill at that time. 😂
Yup just another epic side quest and rewards. I found the hidden outpost message before that but was lvl 10when I went.I’ve found a few more in fact I’m on a side quest that has lasted at least 12 hours so far. This game is packed full of this type of content.
@@spazzticzeal6238 I'm only able to play on the 6th September, but reading stuff like this makes me so relieved. Hope that there are lots of side and misc type quests that are more than simple fetch and complete in a few minutes type affairs.
@mafustokes There are a few simple side quests, and there are some epic ones that take hours to complete. And I'm only 28 hours in, most of it spent on side quests alone. This game is going to be measured in months, nit hours.
The one I figured out today is when you are in a mission and low on health, find a bed and take a nap.... restores all heath and you can continue the mission. .
Very beginning of the game in the mining compound, pick up all the aid and med kits that you can... there are lots of useful aids and a few med kits lying around the compound and you don't get flagged for taking them... even the stuff in the lockers. Even the one guys half eaten sandwich in the lounge... its all OK for you to take and worth having it on hand for the first few quests.
Always quick save before lockpicking. I was legit worried about whether I was going to like this game or not and I can say thats no longer something I worry about as Its pretty great. I just need more time to play it.
i probably watch 5 to 6 early game tip video, but u sir just make my day, i sub for sure, no other video i have watch that include the cover fire mechanic, thank for that man, will try it out later today
Loving it. If you are exploring planets, dont do crimson fleet. As all pirates will be friendly. Cutting xp, and loot. If you do kill em it adds bounty.
Don't do what I did and attempt a survey planet quest... 4 hours into that generic side mission and still got to find 1 more animal that refuses to spawn. Good news is that emergent events and stuff keep you levelling and gearing up, even got my first new ship from boarding pirates on the planet surface and killing the captain.... solid 8 maybe 9 out of 10 for me at around 12 hours keeps getting better, SF does not do the best job of hand holding the player though, plus a few annoying bugs holds it back. Mods could make this a 11/10 :D
Hey broski, I ended up doing the same thing but figured it out from a random Reddit post. If the planet has an ocean, the creature your missing is a whale. You need to land your ship a pixel away from the ocean and walk to the waterfront, you will find your missing creature.
Quicksave all the time. Before every attempt at lock picking, pickpocketing, or persuasion attempts. This way if you fail, you can just reload your quicksave and try again until successful with zero consequences or losses.
Excellent video! I pre-purchased the game and played only one or two sessions so far. These hints are very useful! I’m level 12 and I got the manipulation ability and I have only done one story mission. I will do some more story though if it’s just like a tutorial. Thanks for the tips
As I love open world, I don’t know where to start to get in the kind of a right cue along the game without missing/skipping or being too early with something😅
I started exploring before I got the scanner lol, got so confused about why the game was telling me to "scan" something. Definitely play a few story missions first! And DON'T invest in outpost and research stuff straight away... what a waste of my time, it's impossible to carry all the materials needed for these systems at early-mid levels.
I'm around level 15 and I just left neon and I feel like I need to start the game over. Also, when is a good time to start crafting and research? Ship building and settlement buildings are both familiar and foreign to me. Haven't really figured that out yet either. Tied to that I'm not sure what loot is good or what loot is truly just garbage. I found this video helpful and want to follow your advice with a new playthrough. I've run out of ammo and med packs so many times during missions and yet I feel I'm looking and looting everything possible. Thanks for the tips.
Personally, I would say to just play the main story only (except maybe Mantis side quest). And then enjoy the side content in new game+, since your levels and perks carry over.
One of my favorite features that I don’t see anybody talk about is that the photos you take will start being used as loading screens.
Thank you!

You have a bit of Owen Wilson in your voice and it’s dope.
i probably watch 5 to 6 early game tip video, but u sir just make my day, i sub for sure, no other video i have watch that include the cover fire mechanic, thank for that man, will try it out later today
Encountered my first terrormorph I hope that there's a major story line to it !!!!
Quicksave before picking locks then if you fail just reload then you don't waste a digipick.
good video very helpful. I was wondering when I was going to be able to use the Jumppack. Well done 🤟
Loving it. If you are exploring planets, dont do crimson fleet. As all pirates will be friendly. Cutting xp, and loot. If you do kill em it adds bounty.
7:13 that was a thing all the way back to Oblivion, can confirm... from experience
Such an amazing game so far
Don't do what I did and attempt a survey planet quest... 4 hours into that generic side mission and still got to find 1 more animal that refuses to spawn.
Good news is that emergent events and stuff keep you levelling and gearing up, even got my first new ship from boarding pirates on the planet surface and killing the captain.... solid 8 maybe 9 out of 10 for me at around 12 hours keeps getting better, SF does not do the best job of hand holding the player though, plus a few annoying bugs holds it back. Mods could make this a 11/10 :D
Looking forward to mods. Every Bethseda game gets +1 or 2 just from community content.
Hey broski, I ended up doing the same thing but figured it out from a random Reddit post. If the planet has an ocean, the creature your missing is a whale. You need to land your ship a pixel away from the ocean and walk to the waterfront, you will find your missing creature.
Easily one of my favorite games of all time.
I’ve been power napping for years. Highly recommended. 😊
First video of yours I have come across, great content and all I can hear is Owen Wilson speaking and I love it 🤣🤣
Wish I had watched this earlier, I did a ton of other missions before finding out why I should have done the main story first.
I have a 255-mod version of Skyrim I played for months, so it was a good lead-in to Starfield. Please make a video with other tips and tricks. I will definitely use the suggestions you included here.
Subscribed. Looking forward to more starfield tips. This video was really good. Well voiced. Spoiler free. Perfection.
Great vidéo man the game does do a very bad job explaining all the things you describe really helped me get my head around the massive info dump at the beggining thanks
Glad I could help!
finally answering the real questions. thank you!
Digipick! Digital lockpicks! Digipicks are the Champions!
Owen Wilson nice guide thank you
Great tips, grab the shepherd pie recipe from upstairs in kays so you can make your own 2% xp for 60 mins food
Really helpfull... Playing for a week now... didn't even know about the shooting from cover thing 😂... took me 4 days to discover by accident, how to put stuff into the quick cross menu 😂
Tip about the digipick if the circle is blue when you select the key it will fit if the circle is white it will not. Helps when the locks get harder
That's for this video, like you said great for all of us who have just got this game and only a few hours/ mins indy the game, there's some really helpful tips here👍👍👍
Sprint button also rotates items just on a different axis
lol I've just been trying to 100% this planet with the crimson dudes whatever all day, having fun. I'll try to do some main quests for ya
Would love some tips for stealth! Especially stealth/melee.
I still favorite the cutter so i don't accidentally sell it (cause I've done that lol). and just press f and left click when you want to use the cutter.
Thanks for this, needed a beginner vid and this was very helpful.
I imagine someone will mod the bucket trick into the game at some point
solid tips, thanks. Looking forward to the 6th!
This video was very helpful, thank you Swany! I learned a lot of new things about Starfield that I didn’t know before.
How do you leave Vasco at the ship he is in the way when trying to fight.
Great video solid tips, most of which I already knew because I played the crap out of these games but I definitely appreciate the stuff that I didn't know. I'll definitely be sure to stock up on Digis next load up
I haven't tried it but maybe instead of moving things you want to steal by picking them up.. maybe you can jump onto the counter and knock things onto the floor?
dunno
..
leaned alot here.. appreciate the vid
Good tips, thank you for the video. I didnt realize I could peek!
Im level 5 and about 3 hours in... i thought the game was rubbish but now after playing it its so fun
I’m level 12 and I got the manipulation ability and I have only done one story mission. I will do some more story though if it’s just like a tutorial. Thanks for the tips
As I love open world, I don’t know where to start to get in the kind of a right cue along the game without missing/skipping or being too early with something😅
Facts on what you said in the beginning I’m only 3 hours in and I already have friends telling me they already beat it 😂
I started exploring before I got the scanner lol, got so confused about why the game was telling me to "scan" something.
If you find the secret outpost side mission. Do not skip it. Do it.
You can't do it early tho I got it level 5 got to space and level 20s shot me down
A very useful tip is to bring up your pilot, security, and targeting in the simulator.
I just smashed the main story and went to new game plus and the game is an 8 or 9 but there are so many things i havnt explored yet
Instead of picking up/moving things to steal it, you can hit them with melee until out of sight😅
Personally, I would say to just play the main story only (except maybe Mantis side quest). And then enjoy the side content in new game+, since your levels and perks carry over.
Solid tips, didn't know about the activity tab. I have to return the the main story but it's so hard to get on track 😂
