Watching you look for the power button in the turret was like watching Dora the Explorer. I was shouting at my screen. "It's up top, Farrister!" Good stuff.
lol totally. Worst part is when you watch the footage, top is the first place I checked. Then EVERYWHERE else. Then top again... But hopefully shows I'm human :D
Farrister pro tip. When you get close to the rocks in the mole, press M. It will engage mining mode in the cockpit. You won't be able to use the turrets but you can use the dedicated mineral scanner on the rocks same as when you are in a Prospector. Beats regular scanning every day of the week! And keep up the good work!
I really appreciate your dedication to authenticity and being raw and as unedited as possible with us. I always find myself recommending your videos whenever I’m asked “so what is Star Citizen really like to play right now”. This kind of longer, chilled out video is super enjoyable. I also haven’t taken my mole out for a while now so, this video was almost uncomfortably relatable if I may say so 😂🥲 Loving your content, keep it coming!
Hey Farrister, thank you for showing the use of the Mole. I like it, and traded in a ship for one. I've not used it yet, even though I've seen others use theirs. Keep showing your great videos. Take care, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.
I love the Argo ships. The Mole is a great solo mining ship - more versatility on loadouts, crack larger rocks, and the bags aren't anemic as on the prospector.
At the risk of repeating, when you come close to the rock you want to mine (if you’re in mining mode you can see the distance) pitch up the nose so the rock is just below the top of the dash. This allows you to raise the mining laser to its highest point. Don’t land, just put it into VTOL mode so you don’t fall to the surface when you leave the pilot’s seat. I did my first mining trip in the Mole last night and loved it.i overcharged once, and the resulting explosion that damaged my Mole would have destroyed my Prospector.
Just got the Mole for the first time the other day. It is a cool ship, but I may give the Prospector more of a chance for solo play. Thanks for the video!
Farrister these vidoes help to demystify SC to those that wonder. I have definitley thought about how this (mining) might work and this is such a enjoyable look into that sphere of gameplay. Keep up the excellent work!

Always learning something new: never thought of blowing up chunks that you don't want. I enjoy mining in the Mole more so than with the Prospector. Larger capacity and different Lasers to mod. I mod one for breaking and one for vacuuming with filters, to leave more dirt out! But I prefer mining Asteroids, compared to surface mining, the laser angle is quite horrendous. I tried hovering with Vtol enabled, but the RNG just hates me! Also that thing is sturdy! was on my way to deliver the ore and was attacked approaching the station. The shields just ate the firepower, even missles just made a K-thunk!-sound on impact and that was it. I just hat something about it, hate it with a passion: that bleeming power switch in the laser cabins is nonexistent! There is nothing there to click, it's like gesturing in front of a greased up kinect camera! Also I wish the theme song from Benny Hill should be playing while speeding up the footage, but that's just me. Also I like these kinds of Videos. We all know, that you struggle with everything we all struggle with: RNG, crashes, stuff not working or even forgetting how to play. But it's reassuring to be reminded that it doesn't happen only to us! Good stuff! Well done and thank you!
A little tip; For landing the invisible Area 18 port, point your nose between 265-285 dir. When(or then) you scan the area, look for the Galland laser rifle shape on the planet side. decend around 6k altitude then look for the purple stains on the clouds (2 by 2 hands of purple).. BUT (after quant. jump) if your first heading is around 40-85 then you might be rgiht top of the landin port. Then again decend arond 6k altitude while scanin for the Galland rifle shape and the purple dirt on the clouds
I do not exit from a jump at the same place at area18. It depends from where you jump. Sometimes, I have to fly over the entire city, sometimes I exit almost just over spaceport.

Great video! Idk why but I really enjoyed seeing you searching for deposits around the 7:30 mark. It’s cool to see how many pings can go out before you find another location. I haven’t mined in several months (let alone, play Star Citizen) Might fire it back up tonight and give it another go.
Trying to operate the MOLE solo, with each mining arm dedicated to one stage of the process (initial fracturing, secondary fracturing, slurping) was a rough but interesting experience, running between the four seats and operating each function of the ship all alone. It's like having a mobile base. I don't think I'll be bothered to do it again😂 but I did have fun while I had the MOLE which I purchased in-game.
I haven't taken my MOLE out since 3.17. Thank you for motivating me to dust her off and take her out 🍻 Argo hands down has the best, most aesthetically liveable interiors. Really looking forward to when mining can feed other gameloops like base building, repairs and beyond
Nice video, just as I messed around with mining again :). Once in a while I think about upgrading my Prospector to a MOLE but then I remember all the additional running and climbing and losing the option to fine tune laser power by just moving the ship away from or closer to the rock... the Prospector gets some good work done with a Helix Laser fitted with a Rieger C3 and Focus III.
I also own a prospector, but decided to buy the Mole in-game for aUEC instead of upgrading the prospector. Even if CIG WIPES ALL SHIPS, aUEC, and items when 4.0 drops, as they used to do, I’ll still have my Prospector and Vulture. They are”mini aUEC printers.” I bought my Mole with what I earned with my Vulture in two to three weeks, and I was only doing one load per day., and none of the 80K cleanup missions. I run one Helix II with two Rieger III and one Focus III, one Hofstede II with one Rieger III and one Focus III, and one stock Arbor II with two FLTR XLT (or whatever the top FLTR module is) for extracting.

Mining was all I did in the first 3 years of playing SC and the Mole was BY FAR my favorite ship as I could set 3 different laser configurations & modules giving me plenty of options. I've also noticed that you always land before breaking the rocks. Is this done to save on the costly hydrogen fuel (as the Mole is extremely thirsty whenever in atmo) or is it just for convenience? I personally always used VTOL mode and set myself within proper distance (depending on that laser head and modules I was gonna be using so it could be anywhere from 30m to 100m) but I always remained up in the air. As soon as I exit the pilot seat the ship remains in the same (hovering position) unless you mine on very windy planets (like on Microtech moons) then you will be drifting slightly and will have to move the ship back into position once in awhile. I have mined easily over 4500 hours and used to love soloing my Mole but sadly since CIG started nerfing almost everything from laser heads to the modules to gadgets to the rocks now being really hard to break & have also the crazy habit to go into overcharged mode in an instant, and also the decreasing $$ values of the ore + the increased cost of refining, I've now lost complete interest and melted it and mostly use my Reclaimer now. Thanks for the video Farrister. I always enjoy your content. Cheers.
@@Farrister You definitely should. It makes your mining experience so much better and easier. The only times I landed was to place or to pick up my gadget once the rock was broken. Just remember to place the ship in VTOL mode and get ready to enjoy. I've never had my Mole falling to the ground while in hovering mode. There used to be a bug when you had someone mining with you and they would turn OFF the turret power before exiting the seat where it would shut down the entire ship systems and it would make it fall to the ground. If you mine with people, just tell them NOT to turn OFF the power of the turret when done. All they should do is EXIT the seat (press and hold "Y") and you should do the same when mining alone. Next times you come up on a rock your turret will already be ON and ready to go. Cheers
I pledged to SC before the Mole came out but upgraded to it immediately- but have never played the game. Was just thinking about giving the Mole a spin and trying the game out so that’s pretty disappointing to hear it’s bad enough now to wear you’ve melted yours. Hopefully it’ll still be fun when it’s done downloading, at least I won’t have known it as it was pre-nerfs I guess.
@@MseeBMe Unfortunately, 3.23 which just dropped broke mole mining, there's a problem with turrets and HUD tracking. It's been reported in the EPTU but CIG didn't fix before releasing live. Very annoying as this was my main breadwinner.
Been a while since I have gone solo Mole mining, been doing too much salvaging. Was nice watching you get reacquainted with the ship. If you enjoyed the experience then nothing wrong with 108k in 1.5 hours!
I usually check what the value of my unrefined ore is at the ore sales kiosk before refining. Double the sales value is what expect once refined. This helps determine if the refining costs is worth it to me.
Mole should be positioned for most breaks 55m away from the rock with 15-18 degrees pitch up. That way your in optimal position for all the lasers and can look/hoover at all in range rock fragments.
I have found that "IF" you can just sit & wait about 5 minutes ( Attempting to Scanning, Pinging, moving around & Firing at it) that "The back end" will catch up & you'll be able to Interact with it [scan/mine it]. But who wants to wait 5 m per rock when you could find 1 that does work in that time !?
If the rock isn’t scanning, just shoot it with your lasers until you see the laser splashes. Then you’ll be able to scan. It usually takes only a few bursts with your lasers. No big deal.
ARGO has such a beautiful aesthetic, proper function meets comfort and style. I wish I enjoyed solo mining with the Mole but all the faffing about up and down ladders is a pain. If there was better cargo functionality for the Raft or gameplay for the SRV I'd happily live in either of them
I love the look of the mole. It's just so irritating to have to run back and climb down the ladder to get to the turret everytime as a solo. And sometimes I just lose the rocks that I scanned and they aren't marked anymore no matter how much a scan afterwards.
@@Farrister I just Argo ships designs. I'm still hoping they come out with an Argo salvage ship. I'm not sure why Argo wasnt the first ones to come out with a salvage ship
I’m not a “Min/Max”player, I just play the game for the immersion and enjoyment, so it doesn’t bother me at all to go from turret to turret. I mean heck I’ve played WoW for 18 years sooo….
Farrister, how's about a video about the Argo Cargo/MPV, a flight say, from Area 18 to Bajini Point, a review about a Quantum less ship that can't jump would be interesting.
In a prospector its very easy in its basic form. 1. Take your Prospector to Lyria 2. Scan the surface for Quantainium: (look for clusters of Quantainium). 3.Break-up the rocks you fancy, but!!! ''Do not pick up a single morsel of Quant before you are satisfied you have enough for a test run'' 4. Pull up your Star Map and ''SET your route back to the REFINERY'', if you cant set a route until you are off planet, become familiar where on the map you need to head once you have taken off. 5. Pick up all your Quant and the timer will start, lift off, leave the surface, head back to the Refinery...this will only take a 6-7 mins. 6. Relax and dont rush on your approach, land and go inside and STORE your Ship, once stored it wont explode. !!!you can eject the quant in space if you cant make it in time!! 6. Go to the refinery and create your 1st refining job. It is that easy. Here's a link explaining the process, its a rince and repeat process, Enjoy ua-cam.com/video/T2PO6DdwFNg/v-deo.html
thanks, i know this, ive been mining Q aswell, but for someone beeing stressed about breaking normal rocks it might be a bit more stressfull😅@@davewills6121
Probably already been said, but those rocks in space that aren't scannable. If you shoot them a few times, mostly all of them then become scannable. might take one or two times to shoot them for it to register.
I love my mole, i just wish the mining cabs were sealed so you don't have to wear a helmet. I think this may make the upcoming Arrastra more desirable and the remote turrets for the miners might be better for switching in between heads.
@@georgemitchell2288 It's interesting, I can jump down and take a little damage, but it's never killed me or incapacitated me. I'm not entirely sure why that is, sometimes I take a few percentage points of health, other times more (sometimes a significant amount), but I can jump down multiple times during a mining run and heal when I depart for the refinery station or when I get there.
i havent done any mining in like 3 years lol, and i own the Orion, but for the Orion all that matters is finding lots of something and filling that 19,000scu cargo bay with refined ore to sell on the market or build stuff
The Mole just doesn't make sense to me. It's built for a crew of three or four, but isn't more profitable than the Prospector (with mole bags) unless you solo it. And it's not great at solo use, due to all the ladder climbing to reposition the ship.
Hey Farrister thanks for the video. Im thinking of trading a prospector for a Mole just because you can get more ore on it. I dont mind switching seats.. are you going to make an update mole solo 3.23?
I enjoyed the Mole when I had it BUT the servers really need to be solid since rocks disappear/re appear, ping sometimes dose not work properly, no info from rocks, try to mine and rock does nothing (server not register the rock) but sometimes shooting rock will register rock with server. It's enjoyable to mine but will try again after 3.23
not yet. supposedly with 3.23 we will have the ability to mark a location, but not the ability to transfer those markers to others, so we're waiting for that.
i get that this is mmo and all that but it would be so cool if they added bots/crew to hire and allow you to swap places with those characters so essentially you would skip walking between positions part
Always hated the look and paltry cargo space of the Prospector, but liked everything about the Mole except for the fact that for some arbitrary reason, the pilot cannot control one of the mining lasers (I know why, doesn't make it right), and so I never got into mining, and never will. Bought a Reclaimer instead. Still had to switch seats, but far, far less often.
@@Farrister yeah well.. I just figured out why you dont do that :) especially when you are half full or more. the animation of climbing down the ladder to your turret sometimes throws you out of your ship, which is a problem when its hovering 50 meters above the ground. not sure if that is more of a local thing(my pc) but in my case almost all the ladder animations are broken in someway.
i love the mining loop in this game, but the wait time for refining makes it kinda suck. salvage is near instant gratification... but for me the salvage loop is boring AF. im sure it would be more entertaining in the reclaimer with a few friends. and the vulture is an amazing looking ship. i just get so bored doing the actual salvage. lol
You might do better in space. Asteroid fields often have good quality rocks that are too big for a prospector but ok for a mole. I've filled a mole with gold and various "ites" and was still so close to the refinery I didn't even have to QT back to it.
@@Farrister I've mined both asteroids and moons quite a bit...prefer moons with nice wx and lots of markers (QD to sunlight) The terrain makes it easier to judge spacing and closure rates, and the scenery is a bit more relaxing.
I enjoy your shows and you voice, I think maybe it would be better that you do cut scenes rather than the sped up videos. Maybe keep must of video put some relaxing Music. I watch a lot of these videos while I work! Maybe to you cut the scenes where you get the ship out and journey to then location.
The mole needs (imo) a redesign. I know it's a Multucrew ship BUT the Pilot Part is absolutely lame - no matter if u Solo or play with friends..... And also the old layout and User Interaction with the old UI for Doors is very boring and absolutely not enjoyable^^ But I love Argo, I still wait for a new Argo ship for Cargo beside the RAFT - something that has a little Hangar where a Vehicle can fit in. A MSR knockoff in Argo Style would be great or something :D
Assuming the server is stable, I love to 4 man crew the MOLE even with its current design I pledged the MOLE. So typically I’ll gather my crew, we will roll out, bring food/water etc. I’ll fly, have my 3 crew on the extractors and we just do nonstop runs to a nearby refinery. What makes it more immersive though is being in discord and watching their streams all at once. That way if some rock overcharges I can be watching and back up as needed. Sometimes though I’ll have my crew meet at a mining location and then they will get in their own personal ships and spread out looking for more profitable spots within one moon/planet. I miss it

Once you achieve enough auec in this game to buy anything, you can just do whatever you want just for fun
Yup!
I would love if you posted uncut videos of things like mining with the mole with no commentary on a second channel as just relaxing background videos
Oh really? Have you checked out @GlitchedInOrbit ?
hit k to turn on hover mode, then hit the right shift to lock yourself in place. you can hover and mine instead of landing on the ground.
Yeah, I don't trust it too much :D nervous about wind, and about falling out of the ship down the stairs...
I usually check what the value of my unrefined ore is at the ore sales kiosk before refining. Double the sales value is what expect once refined. This helps determine if the refining costs is worth it to me.
Good idea - honestly I don't do that enough
Mole should be positioned for most breaks 55m away from the rock with 15-18 degrees pitch up. That way your in optimal position for all the lasers and can look/hoover at all in range rock fragments.
I find that much easier to achieve in space than on the ground
Have a mole and Prospecter as loaners, so might just get back into some relaxing mining. Kudos
Very relaxing
@@Farrister I think it might just be my 2nd itteration into mining. Luv your content
I'm too impatient, I think :D
If the rock isn’t scanning, just shoot it with your lasers until you see the laser splashes. Then you’ll be able to scan. It usually takes only a few bursts with your lasers. No big deal.
When I'm going to Area 18 I aways head west after the quantum jump, that's where the space port is.
It depends from where you jump. Sometimes I exit just over the spaceport.
Or just fly about cluelessly for a minute :D
I love how peaceful mining can be in SC. Provided no pirates show up!
Being far away from anything helps
ARGO has such a beautiful aesthetic, proper function meets comfort and style. I wish I enjoyed solo mining with the Mole but all the faffing about up and down ladders is a pain. If there was better cargo functionality for the Raft or gameplay for the SRV I'd happily live in either of them
Totally, although less impacted by that when crewing properly, unlike me in this video :D
saw the name of this tab and the first part scared me thinking I had some unleft business i forgot to close out of lmaooo
Looking forward to my RSI Arrastra 😎
Me too!
I love the look of the mole. It's just so irritating to have to run back and climb down the ladder to get to the turret everytime as a solo. And sometimes I just lose the rocks that I scanned and they aren't marked anymore no matter how much a scan afterwards.
I have to keep reminding myself that it's not supposed to be a solo ship
@@Farrister I just Argo ships designs. I'm still hoping they come out with an Argo salvage ship. I'm not sure why Argo wasnt the first ones to come out with a salvage ship
I’m not a “Min/Max”player, I just play the game for the immersion and enjoyment, so it doesn’t bother me at all to go from turret to turret. I mean heck I’ve played WoW for 18 years sooo….
@@CharlesDSmith-mv7zi Same I dont care about min/maxing either. Its just super annoying running back and for to the turret haha
Farrister, how's about a video about the Argo Cargo/MPV, a flight say, from Area 18 to Bajini Point, a review about a Quantum less ship that can't jump would be interesting.
ua-cam.com/video/HM_caaRC6X8/v-deo.html ;)
@@Farrister LoL well I guess I deserve that!! What a great, fun little video!!
Thank you for making it.
magical suction beams are so immersion breaking, as if the devs don't realize drones exist
I've never done ship mining. Does it have the same thing happen where it can overheat and destroy the ship, like the ROC does?
yes, and quantanium is even worse as you get a timer to get it to the refinery before it explodes 😅
@@soneryazici6527 Oh geez, so even more stressful than ROC mining. I hope they leave salvaging nice and chill.
In a prospector its very easy in its basic form.
1. Take your Prospector to Lyria
2. Scan the surface for Quantainium: (look for clusters of Quantainium).
3.Break-up the rocks you fancy, but!!! ''Do not pick up a single morsel of Quant before you are satisfied you have enough for a test run''
Here's a link explaining the process, its a rince and repeat process, Enjoy
ua-cam.com/video/T2PO6DdwFNg/v-deo.html
thanks, i know this, ive been mining Q aswell, but for someone beeing stressed about breaking normal rocks it might be a bit more stressfull😅@@davewills6121
It can do, but usually caused by player error :P
Probably already been said, but those rocks in space that aren't scannable. If you shoot them a few times, mostly all of them then become scannable. might take one or two times to shoot them for it to register.
Good to know!
I love my mole, i just wish the mining cabs were sealed so you don't have to wear a helmet. I think this may make the upcoming Arrastra more desirable and the remote turrets for the miners might be better for switching in between heads.
Good point
Tip for the solo MOLE miner: don't climb down the ladder, jump down to save precious seconds. ;)
Only the ladder to the 2nd deck (elevator) and the two turrets. Jumping down to the lower/primary laser can kill, or incap you.
My injured legs would like a word
This absolutely. Back into the ladder well and you'll slide down. Usually no health hit, and never more than 2-3%.
I know the Argo ORANGE is a trademark feature, and can be changed with paints, shame it didn't tranfer to the interior?
H
Mole ar unfish ship side laser cabins dont got glass cocpite and mising light to see in dark
WHat happens if you try to complete the order, but don't have enough space in your ship?
i havent done any mining in like 3 years lol, and i own the Orion, but for the Orion all that matters is finding lots of something and filling that 19,000scu cargo bay with refined ore to sell on the market or build stuff
The Mole just doesn't make sense to me. It's built for a crew of three or four, but isn't more profitable than the Prospector (with mole bags) unless you solo it. And it's not great at solo use, due to all the ladder climbing to reposition the ship.
All solved with balancing at some point, I'm sure.
It's enjoyable to mine but will try again after 3.23
Yeah, I know what you mean
Did you just 'tap' the surface with that ship?
No..........
Is it possible to earn aUEC by selling juicy ore coordinates to miners?
not yet. supposedly with 3.23 we will have the ability to mark a location, but not the ability to transfer those markers to others, so we're waiting for that.
There's not any official in-game support for it, although I suppose it's theoretically possible with aUEC transfer app and party invite
i get that this is mmo and all that but it would be so cool if they added bots/crew to hire and allow you to swap places with those characters so essentially you would skip walking between positions part
Do i get this.. or reclaimer
108k ? we can do the same with cargo run in 12 minutes (12min is the travel time)
Yup, or even scarier sums with salvage!
@@Farrister a friend made 6m in an hour or 2 in reclaimer, its just absurd
you cant just hoover?
You can hover and I usually do. Maybe Farrister has a reason and will tell us in the final video.
You can! It just creeps me out to be floating mid air whilst not in control of the ship :D
Myself i only mine in space with my Mole, makes things easier i think.
Looks like fun, unfortunately, the MOLE is $315 and I have no friends that play SC.
can always earn it in game
Bought mine for aUEC
Might I recommend editing out the high speed transitions between cockpit and turret? Otherwise love your videos!
OK! Was trying to keep the uncut sequence :D
i love the mining loop in this game, but the wait time for refining makes it kinda suck. salvage is near instant gratification... but for me the salvage loop is boring AF. im sure it would be more entertaining in the reclaimer with a few friends. and the vulture is an amazing looking ship. i just get so bored doing the actual salvage. lol
My success rate with the Prospector is desperately low. Too few interesting breakable rocks. The Mole feels like a requirement.
Even then, needs to be a crewed MOLE to unlock everything, I think
You might do better in space. Asteroid fields often have good quality rocks that are too big for a prospector but ok for a mole. I've filled a mole with gold and various "ites" and was still so close to the refinery I didn't even have to QT back to it.
Yeah I've already decided that since this was filmed lol
@@Farrister I've mined both asteroids and moons quite a bit...prefer moons with nice wx and lots of markers (QD to sunlight) The terrain makes it easier to judge spacing and closure rates, and the scenery is a bit more relaxing.
I will fly it when we can hire npc or use ai software for mining. I bought the Orion and have the Mole as a substitute but never used it.
A lot of these bigger ships are really designed for that multi-crew experience
I enjoy your shows and you voice, I think maybe it would be better that you do cut scenes rather than the sped up videos. Maybe keep must of video put some relaxing Music. I watch a lot of these videos while I work! Maybe to you cut the scenes where you get the ship out and journey to then location.
I solo the MOLE. I prefer mining to salvage.
Fair enough - I prefer the Prospector for solo mining though, just for the convenience.
Dat ship, sooo cool. Keep your RSI META concept pic.
lol
Wow, you definitely are very rusty. That's the first I've ever seen anyone land their Mole to mine, lol.
Rusty, just like the colour theme of the MOLE...
Wish progression wasn’t so multiplayer forced. Basically to progress be ready for a ton of inconvenience.
Could of at least got the carbon skin/edition 😅 completely changes the look of the ship 🔥💯
personally I prefer the orange on all argo ships
It looks great, but I didn't think anywhere in game sold it?
"one and a half hours" well. It took 13 hours to refine it. So.
I dunno, it's a totally different experience with a crew. I hope to show some of that in the next few weeks, but even pilot with a crew is fine
Assuming the server is stable, I love to 4 man crew the MOLE even with its current design
I pledged the MOLE.
I miss it
is that what the kids are calling it now?
Sorry?
yes very cool ship, but the payout makes mining not that attractive unfortunately
For now, at least
nah, I will keep running drugs it's easier 😂
UEE Law Enforcement would like a word
I hate this ship so much. It comes right after the ROC DS.
Oh no! It's a good ship I think, as long as you have a crew
