@@samanthaazira Believe me, I understand. The bottom of the barrel resellers taint the business for the rest of us. A lot of collectors by default hate resellers but then I see massively popular haul posts about GameStop buys and I'm like "Really? This is the same thing but way worse. A corporate giant is the reseller." One thing I always say but people often disasgree with, is that resellers save a lot of gems from being sent to the dump. If you look at VHS, CDs, Cassette Tapes, etc - things of generally very low value, a lot of the best stuff is discarded and then nobody can have it. Ironically it's the resellers that keep the values relevant hehe.
The HD-DVD Hard drive was added on to the 360 because Microsoft was backing HD-DVD format they didn't want to pay royalties to Sony for the Blu-ray Format at the time, sadly the Format was actually better than Blu-ray just like Beta max was superior to VHS but what really put a nail in the coffin to HD-DVD was one specific Industry decided to go all in on Blu-ray because it was harder to copy than HD-DVD was. Just like VHS the (C)orn industry chose to go with Blu-ray, however I had that HD-DVD drive along with quite a few movies in the format ultimately though I would say I miss Physical versions of movies but the convience of Digital has just become so much easier to deal with especially when having a collection at one time of over a 1,000 movies and several hundred books was just a slog to pack up every few years I moved. Like the video interesting topic.
That's a cool insight to the history of the HD DVD I didn't think of the fact they would have to pay Sony. It's a cool collection item and I may look for some physical HD DVDs to add to my collection but with gaming being my primary it likely won't be much
Adventure Island looks like it has some damage, hope it plays. Punisher was some value I think because it was banned in a few countries for gore. Fairytale fight seems like a trip. Great pickups!
I don’t have an issue with resellers, but most of them price things close to game store prices. In those cases I’ll buy from my local game store to support local businesses. My LGS also warranties everything they sell which is a plus.
@scottstephenson2112 same I would much rather support the business but also if I'm buying from a individual and they are willing to chat about gaming and do some minor bundle deals I'm fine buying from them as well ig the prices are not unreasonable
Hey Samantha, as a reseller for quite a while now I have a lot of light to be shed on this topic. The reality is the buyer decides the market. The seller just lists items for what they are selling for. Resellers get good prices for things because they buy from people that don't know the value of what they have. Also they get up at 3am to go to a yard sale at 6am to be there before anyone else. You want great deals you got to look harder for them because these games are getting more and more rare. As a reseller I almost never buy from another reseller because they have done their research and know what they are going for. Resellers arent the problem if anything they help by listing more items that undercut the prices of other resellers to sell their stuff quick(like an auction house in world of warcraft). The buyer votes on the price by buying the items. If the whole world decided they wouldn't buy pokemon soul silver for 160(CAD) then over time the price would come down until they sell again and it would adjust. This won't happen. Its the same reason why bad video games keep getting made, people buy them. Now there IS something to be said of people selling OVER market value. Those people don't make it as a reseller and go out of business. Let them shoot their selves in their foot. In fact most times the people selling for too much aren't resellers. However if you'd like to chat about this Id be willing to. Take care.
Unless you went to the warehouse and bought directly from a publisher, you bought from a reseller. The entirety of the retail market is made up of people that buy things at a cheap price and then sell them at a mark up. Like Mort said, these rules about reselling and who can do it are baffling. For decades GameStop bought back trade-ins for pennies on the dollar and then sold the games at an elevated price. It seems it wasn't until you could put a single person's face on the reselling brand that it became a huge gripe in the community. So is it that reselling is the issue or is it seeing others have success the issue?
@WavesNGames I think for me and it may have come across incorrectly as obviously I didn't have a issue with buying from "resellers " but I think some practices from about 10% of them can border on scummy
@@samanthaazira that's fair. Also, I have bought from GOTG, and you're right, they 100% keep their items priced to sell quickly and it gives a great experience to their customers.
I'd rather pirate (and do) than buy from a reseller. No skin off their back anyway, as there's always someone else to sell to (no issue for those that are fine with it)...and there's none off mine as I'm going to play a game how I want and when I want regardless.
for the most part without resellers you wouldnt be able to buy games. Video game stores are really just resellers when you think about it. only way you can not buy from a reseller is thrifting or yard sales
I agree. I wasn't great about being specific. I actually have no issue with most resellers and was referencing particular practices, also wanting to open the floor for a topic that seems to be so touchy in the community
@@samanthaazira no I understand I'm selling most of my collection right now to help save money for a house I see both sides I don't really hate either side. People like retro Rick and all those people who own stores genuinely love gaming and are just trying to spread the hobby to people while making money. Honestly the main problem in gaming is thrift stores you can't find video games at corporations like Goodwill because they send all their inventory to one store to get put on eBay. While that is a similar thing resellers do it's annoying because people like retro Rick have a harder time stocking their store and an average Joe at a thrift store can't get the steal they want. It's a lose-lose for stores and collectors.
@@samanthaazira my goal when I get back into collecting again would be to laser focus PlayStation 1 for everything I ever wanted that's my number one console I would also probably do super Nintendo next just had some amazing games on both consoles before I started selling I had about 600 games
I think resellers serve a purpose. They take games from one place and get them in the hands of collectors and gamers who want them. I feel like the only way to really collect on the cheap nowadays is to buy large lots and resell what you don’t want for your collection. 🤷♂️ Essentially all game stores are resellers too. They get trades on the cheap and sell at market value. I think where the hate from a lot of folks comes in to this is because UA-cam hunters/resellers have pretty well ruined the days of finding fantastic scores at thrifts, on marketplace and at yard sales. The documentation of how to go out, hunt and find games cheap at these places and to resell them has changed the market completely. Anyone who says otherwise is lying about it and not being realistic. That being said there are still deals to find out there. You get lucky sometimes and you really do have to put the time in. Great pickups Sam. I have that Mario Bros graphic novel. I would love to track down a copy of the Punisher myself. Sweet grabs! 🍻🤙🏻
I think Americans pay too much for these games. In Europe these reseller usually cant sell if they price high. I regularly check local sites, i live in the EU and most reseller with the ebay prices have the same games listed every week for years and years.
Yea I appreciate the work most resellers do to get the games out to other collectors, but the people buying out tables marking prices up and sometimes even getting upset when people try and work a deal are my problem
Dude I laughed my ass off at the end with the outtake!!!!! Just wanted to say though that I think you made a good purchase with everything even though yes that HD player is a complete waste of time... We also have one 😜 I think you know how I feel about certain resellers too and to anyone who feels otherwise you're entitled to your opinion just as we are entitled to ours. Opinions are like assholes everyone has one and some of them stink. It's not a success based thing or trying to define rules on who can sell or who can't. It's just missing an era where things used to be cheaper and more accessible. Now it's the reality of going to a yard sale when it opens knowing that 20 other people already showed up 30 minutes earlier to scoop up all the things you want to add to your collection just so they can flip them. It's frustrating and I think we're allowed to be frustrated. Can't wait to see you next year! That's right, I'm willing it into existence so it happens and we'll be meeting again in July at a certain convention and hopefully we can pick up some stuff before it's all cleaned out by resellers 😂😂😂
@MortsGarage hopefully things didn't come off as all resellers and more so the 10%. I think a lot of people who resell like you, Arkansas picker, gaming off the grid, and so on. I believe resellers are a net positive both bringing the product to the community but also breathing life into a hobby that otherwise may not have gotten as large as it has.
@@samanthaazira Totally! I think people being kind is the through line here - resellers can be kind or exploitative...same with every other way of doing business.
@RNGGamerYT 100% lol I should have been more clear that it's very specific practices I do not like. Funny enough I use to buy bundles and sell what I don't want so I'm a dirty reseller too
Time is money, Resellers spend a lot of their time finding good deals. I would rather pay more for an item and have more time for doing other things. Hope you find some good deals at PRGE. Thanks for your support! :) Great Video BTW
That is a point I didn't hit on that they spend the time finding the games and even sometimes going as far as cleaning and testing. So sometimes you are paying for both the game and the services.
I will never get used to seeing myself in the background of a video. This was a great video, Sam. Awesome pickups (minus Adventure Island...eff that game) - as for the resellers? It's unfortunately a part of the hobby nowadays. The UA-cam resellers glamorize that side of things and it's annoying. But a GOOD reseller will always be willing to haggle and work on a price. There's a few that sell at conventions that are assholes and price high and won't flex on heir prices, but most are happy to work with you. Excellent work here, and excellent discourse. :)
Yea I like to have others in my videos when I can lol. I would say most resellers I have ran into have been great but I wanted to make sure the title was inflammatory enough to start a conversation
I personally like some reproduction stuff and think it can actually be better in some aspects. It all depends. I am thinking my reproduction I am going to have done made from a friend on Poland may be better than my Official physical version of the same Cartridge. I believe I will get better compatibility. My original isn't working on my Clone consoles. I have them running on other methods so I know it's possible. I don't know why someone developing wouldn't make things more user friendly but it shouldn't be overlooked. I bought the Digital too so I can do with it what I want. It's all legal. Sam's Journey for Famicom is great but they should have done better. I can probably through friends.
I have had some experience with repro stuff and it works well enough and sometimes if a game is crazy expensive it's a good alternative for stuff that isn't being sold anymore
@samanthaazira I just picked up Zepher's Pass for Gameboy Color Digital Version. I used a Geek Tech Premium FRAM Cartridge to make it Physical. I am happy. Epilogue GB Operator is great.
Resellers are ok, but Scalpers are not ok. I may not agree with with anyone grabbing games before even the Early Access VIP people at conventions. That does not seem right.
Simple solution to those who don’t like resellers .. don’t buy .. you all know we practice capitalism here .. no one is telling you you have to play video games or have to collect .. there is a huge difference between things you need and things you want .. grow up people .. quit saying childish things !
I would say trying to open a discussion on a topic would not be childish and having a opinion is not as well. As for choosing to buy you may have noticed the majority of the video was a pick up video of games I bought from resellers because I felt like the prices were fair for what was being sold. Taking this as all resellers are bad is taking things out of content.
I don't buy from resellers. Reputable game stores, second hand stores if the resellers haven't cleared them out and individuals selling without a drastic mark up. Just the general strategies of some resellers have turned me off of them. Greed mostly. Maybe not all are like that, but enough to keep me away.
There's a special level of Hell reserved for resellers. No independent traders, they are who to look out for, they guys don't scalp, because they are in the game as long-term businesses and look for repeat business and forming lasting connections with their customers. And they tend to be proper collectors themself. Dumb peripherals are the best peripherals 😉 And before I forget, YOU LET JENN TALK YOU INTO ADVENTURE ISLAND! Are you mad! Tom and Laci talked me into it a few yoears ago, so I know what I'm talking about 😂
Look my issue is not just your run of the mill resellers, my issue is on the sleaze bags who find games that they never play and than have the gull to charge way above market price and hold the buyer hostage as they have nowhere else to buy it. i have seen games in my area go for 4 x or more above market/price chart simply cause their is nowhere else to get them. They abuse us. i dont want to buy from them but when your left with no other options what choice would i have? it is getting more crazy lately.
@@samanthaazira exactly! Ive actually caught some sellers on Amazon slipping when it came to more costly games! I got fatal frame 3 for $40 and the PS2 x files game for $20. Which is great because bi actually want to play the games instead of resell them for a profit.
I think its a fake moral high ground with people having issues with resellers, it makes no sense. The house they live in and the car theyre driving was probably resold at some point. Most if not all retailers are "reselling" their merchandise. Thats just how it is, wake up lol.
Well considering the entire video was a pick up video from a reseller hopefully shows that I don't have so much of a problem but wanted to open a discussion
Resellers and yard sales....🙄😒 If I can't say anything nice.... Anyways, Fairytale Fights is a fun party game for the goofiness. Probably been said elsewhere already, but the Mario comic is a collection of the serials released in Nintendo Powers. Love those though! Ah, the HD DVD drive. We have the white one and, like you, are tempted to get some of the films. GotG are punks--can confirm their White Castle 100 slider failures. 😂 j/k
I know you did not intend to smear all resellers. I think we need to stop using inflammatory language either way. Your local video game, mom and pop shop are no less "Dirty resellers" than a single man or woman who resells. You bring trade in,they give you 40%-50% for it and turn around and sell it for double. They run on the same fundamentals. By low, sell high. So when you say "it depends on who you are and what you are doing it for" and your description of that pheonix dude compared to GOTG, it fair to say you are placing resellers in two distinct categories and to that I'd argue there is no divergence in the fundamentals between pheonix, a mom and pop store or GOTG. The later flips and sells on Ebay for peak prices, btw. But they are not "dirty" because they MAY give you a good price at a convention and use some of the money for their collection? No one wants to flat out say it because it sounds childish but, it's pretty clear to me. Good reseller - Resellers who sell but also collect and are seen as "real gamers" Dirty Reseller- Reseller who strictly sell as a business. Even though this applies to local shops.
Yea all valid thoughts for sure. The inflammatory language was mainly to spark conversation which it did. As you can see this was a pick ups video from said resellers and I starred a new relationship with a new supplier and got a decent deal. It's more so the people who buy out tables at crazy prices due to who they are then sell it for crazy prices which isn't the majority of sellers .
Yeah no problem with collectors and people that want to sell their collection, but resellers is a little slimy. I’m not a fan of some video game businesses either. Probably why most of the games I buy are brand new or discounted games from retailers. I get people need to make money, but sometimes the reselling and flipping and scalping just hurts all of us. Prices go up and that’s not a good thing. Sam you are really good at finding deals and that’s probably what a lot of us need the most help with.
Prices need to go up, that’s how we evolve as a society. If prices all stayed the same, we would have been overthrown by multiple governments/countries by now. But no, we progress, and innovate, and with that, comes more money thrown at problems, hiring more people, pushing out more/better product, thus the cycle continues. We live in a capitalist society. It is what is. If you don’t like resellers. Stop going to conventions or buying from anybody online/in person. Whether that be online market places, ebay, amazon, etc. everybody needs to make a living.
I don’t understand the hate against what you call resellers. You do realize, every booth at a convention, IS A RESELLER. They all got their games for cheap, and are marking them up to market value. A lot of collectors by default hate resellers but then I see massively popular haul posts about GameStop buys and I'm like "Really? This is the same thing but way worse. A corporate giant is the reseller."
One thing I always say but people often disasgree with, is that resellers save a lot of gems from being sent to the dump. If you look at VHS, CDs, Cassette Tapes, etc - things of generally very low value, a lot of the best stuff is discarded and then nobody can have it. Ironically it's the resellers that keep the values relevant hehe.
I just got Punisher for Xbox recently as well! Shoutout to Gaming Off The Grid (one of my favorite channels) and shoutout to you as well!
@@yochrisnelson yea I'm excited to play it
The HD-DVD Hard drive was added on to the 360 because Microsoft was backing HD-DVD format they didn't want to pay royalties to Sony for the Blu-ray Format at the time, sadly the Format was actually better than Blu-ray just like Beta max was superior to VHS but what really put a nail in the coffin to HD-DVD was one specific Industry decided to go all in on Blu-ray because it was harder to copy than HD-DVD was.

I love the Punisher game, it's one of my favorites.

Expect to get "rift off" when buying from resellers. Always buy local, from your local retro/game stores and even at times GameStop has good deals.
@@theislanderinme5227 nice one lol
I'd rather pirate (and do) than buy from a reseller. No skin off their back anyway, as there's always someone else to sell to (no issue for those that are fine with it)...and there's none off mine as I'm going to play a game how I want and when I want regardless.
Yea and it's the cheaper way so a win win if you do not care about collecting physical
For the Xbox 360 may I recommend guardian heroes for the 360, phantom dust, and also wrestle kingdom 1
I will have to look out for those thanks!
for the most part without resellers you wouldnt be able to buy games.
We also have one 😜
I think you know how I feel about certain resellers too and to anyone who feels otherwise you're entitled to your opinion just as we are entitled to ours.
Well Andrew says we are going so it must be true! Yup my opinion is my opinion and people hopping to the conclusions they have been is quite wild.
I got Adventure Island, Altered Beast, and The Punisher they are petty good
Awesome I am excited to try them out soon
A fair deal is a fair deal. How we ended up with these rules about being allowed to resell games or not is slightly baffling.
That’s the problem, a lot of times it isn’t a fair deal from these guys.

Yea if the prices are too high I just walk away
Cool pickups! When you think about it anyone you buy from is a reseller 😂

Yea using resellers and a blanket term was the mistake as I was referencing more so the people buying up tables and jacking up prices
Simple solution to those who don’t like resellers .. don’t buy .. you all know we practice capitalism here .. no one is telling you you have to play video games or have to collect .. there is a huge difference between things you need and things you want .. grow up people .. quit saying childish things !
Hallelujah 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I would say trying to open a discussion on a topic would not be childish and having a opinion is not as well. As for choosing to buy you may have noticed the majority of the video was a pick up video of games I bought from resellers because I felt like the prices were fair for what was being sold. Taking this as all resellers are bad is taking things out of content.
Same thoughts about people who hate people who buy sealed and graded games
I don't buy from resellers. Reputable game stores, second hand stores if the resellers haven't cleared them out and individuals selling without a drastic mark up. Just the general strategies of some resellers have turned me off of them. Greed mostly. Maybe not all are like that, but enough to keep me away.
There's a special level of Hell reserved for resellers. No independent traders, they are who to look out for, they guys don't scalp, because they are in the game as long-term businesses and look for repeat business and forming lasting connections with their customers. And they tend to be proper collectors themself.
Dumb peripherals are the best peripherals 😉
And before I forget, YOU LET JENN TALK YOU INTO ADVENTURE ISLAND! Are you mad! Tom and Laci talked me into it a few yoears ago, so I know what I'm talking about 😂
Apparently I am unaware of how brutal this game is lol I must hate myself to some degree.
Same run of the mill people no problem.... people who bring the prices to a crazy number or scalp is a no go
i have no good words about resellers.
That's fair
I just use eBay and Amazon and compare prices.
@@kcadventures1454 I have been using ebay more price charting doesn't seem to be keeping up
@@samanthaazira exactly!
Yea I tried to find some HD DVD movies and it's been more challenging than I thought lol
Good reseller - Resellers who sell but also collect and are seen as "real gamers"
Dirty Reseller- Reseller who strictly sell as a business.
Why waste money on that shit when you can perfectly emulate that same game and so much more for free.
@@deadmousyplutaprestige8771 it's probably some degree of childhood trauma 🤷♂️
Maybe I can try and make a video with some tips and tricks for deals. Honestly though it often feels like luck lol
I don’t understand the hate against what you call resellers.
You do realize, every booth at a convention, IS A RESELLER. They all got their games for cheap, and are marking them up to market value.
We live in a capitalist society. Get over it. Everyone needs to make money. And also…YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY OR COLLECT VIDEO GAMES. Nobody is forcing you to. It’s a want, not a need.
Stop being so childish.
