Sony is going to replace Sony a6500 with a6600 later half this year. So probaly we will see Sony a6400 with IBIS in a6600 .
I think you're right, not sure what it's gonna be called but yes, very likely to happen!
Record 4k, how long till it overheat?
@@theTechNotice usually big tech company follows two seasonal product launch one in Spring (Feb-May) and another in Fall (Sept -Dec) . And Sony clearly followed the same with previous product launch . Even you can noticed they have already mention firmware updates for higher models till Sept. So they are launching A6400 now. so that firmware's bug get fixed by the feedback of A6400 and upcoming model on say A6600 will have a less bug free and get a big market share on mid range mirror-less camera. i mean you got 4k, s-log, realtime tracking AF, flip screen, no time restriction and IBIS ..that is everything to replace canon 80D for vlog cam.
Best value Sony cameras for video even in 2019/2020
- FDR-X3000 Action camera
- RX100VA Point and shoot 1” Sensor
- A6400 APS-C Sensor
- A7iii Full-Frame Sensor
Thanks for the review 👍😎
Ibis is a huge plus especially on long lenses. It can add stops of exposure if you're shooting long exposure handheld. It's definitely a great and useful feature.
I bought one with the 16-50mm kit lens this week. They obviously corrected the lens issues because the photos I have taken with the camera are coming out great. I don't have to spend a lot of time in post-processing to get them shared online, which is a huge plus. I do have the a7riii as well, and, purchased the a6400 to use to shoot cityscape and landscape, as a backup. Will have to try out the video capabilities in the future to see how that works out, possibly on both cameras. So, if you are considering purchasing your first mirrorless and have limited funds, you can't go wrong with buying this Sony A6400 APS-C Camera.
I am really keen to add one of these to my kit, the 6400 seems to be so highly rated and fits my needs as a makeup artist and photographer (behind the scenes and beauty portrait work mainly)
Pro price pro features...totally agree. I think the camera is pretty outstanding value for what it is AND for the price it's offered. It's weird that this camera is so enticing for me, but it totally is as a b-shooter....with vintage lenses specifically.
A little smooth jazz in the background!? Lol Nice 👌🏼
Creates quite a nice feel, doesn't it? :)
I love the AF of Sony, Sony is KING when it comes to autofocus!! im waiting for this cam to come out in the philippines.
Wohoo!!
Awesome video !!! My team and I absolutely learned from this one !! Thank you for the TONS of detail and perfect explanation
I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Cool and good comment about "Just give up and make it a side flippy". Right, and add full menu control on a bigger screen.
Too many cheap hotshoe mount extensions on amazon to be worried about mic blocking the screen. Not an issue.
They Could've put the screen to the side and we wouldn't have the issue in the first place :)
@@sebo2818 Not at all, it's just what you're used to seeing.
@@theTechNotice not all want a screen to the side.. I want it at the center.. pretty lame answer for a comment that saying your issue is not really that a big deal to be an issue.. what Can you get from a guy who just read spec sheet and review camera base on things that does not need review and can be easily figure out by anyone looking at the camera and the spec sheet.
Keep wifi in airplane mode until you're ready to transfer files, it won't hunt and drain your battery!!
Good tip, I'm almost always on airplane mode!
How much longer did the battery last?
I think you are right. I just bought that camera because I needed the auto focus features, but I think Sony is diabolical in that when the a7000 comes out I'll probably get that as well, but I would rather it had come out now instead of the 6400. So Sony figured out how to get me to buy both cameras.
Everybody complained for years- why don't they add the flip up lens like on the a5100, and as soon as they do,, why didn't they added on the side.
I have the a6000 with several good Sony lenses my next camera will be the a6400. Thanks for the details on what it does. Better focus and longer battery life are really the pluses for me. I shoot Star Trails and always run out of battery life before I finish.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, go for the a6400 its fantastic! :)
I am one of those that thinks IBIS is not as important as people make it seem to be. When I learned that the camera 1)does not have a recording limit and 2)does not overheat, I immediately decided to order it. I already have stabilized lenses and when I shoot video, I use a tripod. And I don’t use external mics. The only thing I don’t like is that the menu is not accessible when recording. I would like to be able to make changes to the white balance while recording.
I guess I'm the opposite boat. Having IBIS opens me up to a host of very affordable old prime lens, while still enjoying stabilization. But then again, my use-case is moving, walking videos, that's why I went for a GX85.
Having the Sony a6000, the mic input and flip screen is enough of an upgrade for me. Also being able to use the shutter button to record video is nice.
I think you're very right my friend!
Just got mine one week ago, aftet banging the a6000 for a year. Am in love
One of the most real
REAL informative content i saw
Cheers, thank you!! :)
Your video has me really excited for this camera. Turned on the bell!
Thanks dude! :)
This is also a very good travel / holiday camera for stills and video. Size, weight, form size over features is everything !
Yes, indeed! :)
I love my a6400, Do professional video for Broadcast Tv with it and people ask me wow what camera do you use....
I just bought it. This is great to hear.
@@Money_Decoded_ what do you think about not having stabilization with videos and stills?
@@hans6304I think gimbal would help @@
4:40 that tripod (sold under the Zomei brand, among others) is a bit tricky for the A6400's small body. The rubber pads on the mounting bracket don't completely cover it so it slides considerably if accidentally rotated without loosening the ballhead first.
Thank you for your advice💪🏾I’ll buy mine
No problem! :)
Will be my first camera with interchangeable-lens, and I am so excited, thanks a lot for this video.
Have fun!
One of the finest video on a6400 seen, can u make one on cannon r10
I own one . . . I like it! It takes amazingly sharp photos! Not a video guy but, the potential is definitely there. Just waiting to see what happens with 7R IV prices at Christmas time OR if any new developments beyond the 7R IV come along then; I am going in for the full frame model! Thanks very much SONY for giving this old NIKON guy a solid reason to buy some new toys! Merry Christmas everyone!
hahaha, :D yeah, it's one solid camera :)
I think you were prophetic a year ago (after having watching a bunch of reviews about the AS7 III just released). Kudos!
IBIS really matters for filmmaking....though we can fix it in post with huge load and hours of processing.....and also the OSS lens of sony cost same as the camera body.....not a wise option for that affordability
@Rich Clark Photography yes i'm completely agree with you but as its a beginner's camera or mainly for vlogging in that case it won't be suitable for handheld use and no beginner would invest in expensive gimbals or other gears at very start.
Y'all act like IBIS can replace a Gimbal. Y'all funny smh 🤦🏾♂️
@Rich Clark Photography this where you are wrong. the jittery is so visible even though you use gimbal. i tested a6400 with sigma 16mm on zhiyun crane 2, and yep, the footage is jittery. You always want to add warp stabilizer later on post production, of course it will be cropped, and sometimes it doesn't really remove the jitters.
thats not happening on a6500.
@@jpemile exactly👍......that jittery garbage footage ruins everything and 5 axis stabilization lets you make some cinematic movements with only hands
@@KanishkGupta you're absolutely right. Before this feature, nobody knew how to produce videos. Everything was so shaky.
Oh.. it's full of useful infomation that i didn't know. Thank you :)
See, sometimes clickbait is not that bad, isn't it? ;)
A6400 ordered. Sigma 16 & 56 1.4s ordered. Subscribed! For the month of March, the a6400 will have the most advanced focusing system money can buy!!! It has a flip up screen. What more could anybody possibly expect for $900? And the audio quality is the best I’ve ever heard with a built-in mics. I don’t want a flip out screen. They interfere with photography. I am sick and tired of people whining about their shotgun mic. The built-in mics are excellent! If you don’t like the built-in mics after using them, then spend the $10 bucks to get a damn clip and put it on the side already! Sheesh!
Hahaha, yeah good point! :)
I use my a6000 as a travel, carry with me always, and backup camera. I’m not vlogger, in fact I’m still shots only. Works great but I may upgrade for the autofocus. I shoot people, too.
If you have a set of legacy lenses then it’s a must for video. It’s why I’m upgrading to the A6600 from my beloved A6300
:)
Wow 20% down thumbs? Really? This is a great video! Maybe brand loyal fanboys. Anyway, thanks for the review. Just bought this camera and quite excited about it.
thanks dude! :) Yeah, enjoy, it's a great camera!
Man! That intro was sick! Hahahahaha!!!! SUper funny!!!!
Cheers, hahah, I made it by accident and I wasn't sure if it's funny, thanks for your comment though! :)
I have the 6300... only time I ever wanted IBIS is when I had a 30mm with no stabilization, monopod, tripod, or a gimbal. It is not a huge deal to me but I guess I can see why it is to others. The only reason why I might replace my 6300 with this would be the new processor and no recording limit. Game changer.
Yes, I agree!
My a6400 is killin'!! I don't miss the in body stabilization, I do fine without it. I have the kit lens, the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS, and I use the Crane M2, and it's a movie making combination. Just awesome. I'll probably grab an SLR Magic 75mm CINE lens, but other than that, this setup is awesome, and yes, even the 16-50 kit lens is giving me great results. I know people hate that lens, but I think if you get your settings right, you can do some great work with it. Especially on the M2. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Sony FE is compatible on E mount cameras, but lenses built for the E mount platform are not designed for the FE or full frame platform. On some full frame Sony's though, you will be able to turn on APS-C mode to crop in on the small image area that the E mount lens covers on a full frame sensor, but ideally you do not want to shoot like this.
That's exactly right.
This guy is hilarious 😂 loved it , just subscribed !
Thanks, hahah! Glad to know I made you laugh! 😂😂
A good and informative video thus I have subscribed so I can see more. Just leaving DSLR world, and looking for my first mirrorless.
that's great! :)
Is a6400 any good for still photography? As i am planning to upgrade my dslr to mirrorless. And i do photography more than videos.
Or is there any other camera under 1000$ for photography and also want good performance in low light?
Short answer is yes, the a6400 is very good for photography as well!! It's probably better than canon on low light, so I'd definitely consider the a6400 even though it doesn't have IBIS!
What lens do you recommend for vlogging? Do you think I will need another for beauty videos as well?
I'd get a Sony 10-18mm f4 for vlogging with the a6400 camera and a 50mm f1. 8 for beauty shots.
Tech Notice thanks!
Fuji xt 30 vs sony a6400. Which is better
Great video! I use a canon 70d for haircut tutorial as I need a flip and I use a gimbal. You think a6400 is enough of an upgrade? Thanks
Image quality wise and AF wise, size wise, YES! It's a huge upgrade! :)
Tech Notice nice one! I’m think it looks great. Thanks for the response! 👌🏻
Awesome sauce. TY
I’m appreciative that Sony has put so much value into this camera, but at $1000 it is still pricey to me. I’m hoping to get a used A5100 with all its limitations simple based on price.
Ok so for a beginner who is probably going to stick with the kit lens 18 - 135mm is it a good camera for traveling or take some pictures when needed? Or spend the extra money and get the a6500?
Of course it is, I think it's a fantastic camera for beginners!
You can easily remove the video recording limit on any sony alpha camera.
Yes, but thats not the point the point is that if sony says there is no recording limit, it means the camera doesn't over heat. :)
@@theTechNotice The a6500 doesn't have any heating problems.. Look up comparisons.
Your accent is mad haha. Good video bro!
Thanks dude, I guess :)
What can you suggest? Currently using Canon 600d with kitlens, zoomlens and 50mm. Would you sugget to go for sony or stick with canon. If sony what lens would you suggest?
You'll see a HUGE improvement when going to Sony! :) If you're happy with the kit lens, keep your Canon 50mm and get a sony with the kitlens. :)
Nice video. I dont do vlogg and I am looking for a sony that I can make both photography(portrait landscape and other) and video is it a good one ? it's also my budget
It is very good indeed! Great place to start! :)
Just got this camera last week, and i really love it..
just want to ask, what is the maximum iso that can be used in this camera without causing noise? Need some advice..
Well, there's always noise when shooting other than native ISO, but I would go max 6400 and that would be extreme :)
Thanks, it really help me..
You're welcome.
As a consumer, we want juice from the company without spending much. As a company, they want to push less juice to consumers and earn more.
People complain about IBIS is really important for video and still and I can't agree more.
a6400 with IBIS is meaned to doomed a6500 or make it more expensive. In addition, if it's so the price should go around 1.5K. Again, those who complain about IBIS will complain again about price.
I agree with you that IBIS is important but not with this camera. So, a6400 wise, IBIS, price ratios and spec are balance.
Stop complaining and start getting what we can afford. There won't be camera with Panasonic's IS, Sony's AF, Fuji's Color Science and Canon's len ranges etc. Because there won't be possible in industrial world, we just have to adapt or keep complaining lol 😂
well said! :)
Fuji could do it with x-h2 if the put a flipout screen and add the x-t3 autofocus
wating for this dream camera with "Panasonic's IS, Sony's AF, Fuji's Color Science and Canon's lens ranges".......well said.
put 6400 on gimbal, it would do better or at least the same as a6500 with IBIS.. love 6400, my new camera.
Yep you're right. I think even better than a6500 tbh:)
hans alexander nope I have a Movi Pro and M5 and a6500 rules the day as as any ibis camera does - so do non ibis cameras
Just recently bought my Sony a6400 camera and i cant wait to see the difference between the A6400 and my phone i presently use
You'll love it ! :)
I would not care about IBIS, but way smaller buffer size on A6400 is no go for me. Also, one less button to customize. I use button customization a lot.
I've got the Sony 6400. Just swirched form Canon. I miss the Canon flip out wide TOUCH screen. But I do like the features of my 6400.
Yeah boii!
the a6400 was intended for vloggers/video shooters. Myself I only shoot stills and so the IBIS in the a6500 lets me get OSS/IS for ANY lens I put on it even my 1960s vintage Minolta Rokkor lens (the tank) and my Canon FD lenses from the 80's. You cant do that on the a6400. I have the NEX-7, a6000 and the a6500. Hoping they will releaser an a7000 with IBIS but all the upgraded focusing features that the a6400/a9 cameras have. that is what we need and a fully articulating screen. dont need the selfie screen
It also makes a perfect B camera for owners of "old" A7 models. I love my A7RII - still an amazing camera for landscape photography - but of course its AF is outdated. The A6400 complements it perfectly for the rare case where I need fast autofocus. And unlike the A6600, it uses the same battery.
Good point there! :)
Philippe Noth I still use the a7rii for photography I’ll be adding the a6400 for video.
I see the round quick disconnect straps on your A6400. Which brand are those? Specifically, are those optional or included with a strap?
Not sure what you mean...?
@@theTechNotice he means the peak design system :D
Excited )
I can't believe how many people reviewing this camera didn't even mention the lack of recording limit. That's huge! Of course, most were too busy wetting their pants over which way the screen flips. Face it, if it flipped to the side they would be crying because the mic jack blocked part of the screen. 🙂
;)
The a6400 remains one of the best value APSC cameras today, if you do both photography and video. To me it's a close tie with the XT3.
- WW (Wandering Wolf)
How does it compare to the fujifilm xs10?
Very excited about the a6400. Thank you
:)

Totally agree with you, man.
I don't know why people stress about this.
To me the unlimited recording time is also the biggest selling point, because I can easily use this alongside my Sony camcorder.
For the price this is a steal!
Yeah man, it's very good camera for the price :)
One important point for me, the eye focus is it working with all the lenses brand? (Sigma, and others) or only with Sony lenses?
Yes, all lenses! It's a software in the camera body not in the lens, although the lens determines the speed of the eye AF, some lenses do it faster some slower. Usually native lenses are faster!
No clue the dislikes. Great video, spot on. Seems promising for a7000. Waiting and waiting for the announcement!
Thanks dude, and same here! :)
Clickbait title. Most reviewers are loving the camera so he tried to make it sound like there was a dark secret.
wow nice is that ronin s that you are using in the a6400? :)
Not sure what you mean, but I use PFY / Pilotfly gimbals
The recording limit is something you can bypass on any Sony Mirrorless camera :D It takes like 5 minutes and you are done. This "hack" is also firmware independent so...
But you can't hack the overheating issue... :( that's why it's an awesome festure on a6400.
@@theTechNotice That's true but I have a solution for that too. :) I fixed overheating issues on my Sony a6000 by adding a cheap thermal pad right on the motherboard (from the back side where PCB is really close to the camera housing with LCD screen. Yes, you have to be really careful because you can easily damage your camera but It isn't that hard to do it properly. :) After this fix, my a6000 almost never shut down or get too hot in a reasonable shooting temperature ( 20 - 30C ) and If I plug an external battery pack into it I can easily shoot several hours without any problems. :)
@Tech Notice Do you reccomend this camera for someone who is in his first step on vlogging and photography ? I already own a sony a5000 who I am training my self on this camera.
YES! :)
@@theTechNotice thanks mate for the answer. Cheers.
Mount 🎤 to the side of the camera, issue settled! Great video BTW!
CHeers, thanks for your encouragement, would you like to see similar video on the Panasonic S1 ?
Tech Notice sure! I preordered the 6400 but it’s not written in stone yet. Is that a comparable camera?
well, much more expensive, stay tuned, video coming out soon :)
Do you color grade? I can't figure out what it is about this that's bothering me. It feels too soft, but alas that's not why I watched anyway. You nailed it, and pretty much just cemented my choice to replace my Canon I've been using to vlog with.
Add +1 to your sub count.
Thanks man! :)
Yes, I colour grade all my footage, but I'm playing around with it a lot as you might see from my videos, trying to find the perfect grade :)
Excited about the autofocus and the removed recording limit. However I am not very impressed with the price: $900 is not an entry level price in my book.
Njah, i guess you're right.
I was considering the AX700 but for the price, I think the a6400 is the better option, given that I only shoot video about 10% of the time. Although, I have to admit that this camera might change that percentage.
With the non stop it will gave me a new problem, I’ll need more space on my hard disk on my computer ( Lol! ) I don’t do video, but is convenient for the time frame pictures (over 2 hours)?
Can we plug an external battery pack (could be in my pocket with a cable) for hours of use? From now, I’ll follow you.
Yes you can have an external battery bank, dummy battery or a 3rd party battery grip and you can record for hours. :)
Totally agree! The 6400 is an amazing camera..IBIS doesn’t bother me one bit..gonna use a gimbal with it anyways 🙌🏼
Thanks for your comment! :) Yeah, you're right!
Hello sir.... lovely video..... would you recommend a6400 for professional use? I was thinking of buying a6400 plus kit lens + 35 1.8 + 16 1.4 sigma ....
And the other option was a7iii with just the 28 f2 lens.....
So if I compare both the options...both round up to the same budget ..but with a6400, at the same price I'm able to get 3 different lenses ...hence way more versatile.... rather than just an a7iii with a 28 f2...since I'm a bit short on budget ..I'm trying to squeeze out as much as I can for the money...what would you recommend ..I usually shoot in pubs, DJ's, Street photography and portraits
I'd definitely go with the A7III Because of the low light performance and much superior sensor and FF look. You said you're taking shots in the dark and I think you need the low light performance of A7III.
@@theTechNotice thank you so much ..do you think the 16 1.4 would handle low light well? Or would the a7iii be a better solution?
The A7III would definitely be better, because of the IBIS and bigger sensor, the a7III would win with a kit lens over a6400 with f1.4. :)
@@theTechNotice that sounds great, thanks alot for the help, I've been asking myself this question since months! I'll go by your word....try to get a7iii with kit lens and an 28f2❤️
Because of the crop sensor aps-c theres a 1.5x crop on the sensor which also applies to the lens, which means that the 1.4 is actually ~f2.1
Nice video. I still shoot photos and own a a6000. Do you think this would be a good upgrade?
If you just shoot photos then no not a worthy upgrade in my opinion, for video definitely.
I would agree with Jose, if you're shooting just photos, I wouldn't. Unless you're doing sports photography or fast moving subjects, then the new AF system will be worth the upgrade. It's worth the upgrade for video if you're using it for video a lot.
@@theTechNotice thank you both
Thanks for the video 🙏 do you think 16-50 lens is great for vlogging, travelling and UA-cam? Or would you recommend me some other?☺️
It's very good to begin with and very small! :)
@@theTechNotice thank you so much ☺️
Does this camera shoot video in a shutter priority mode?
Yes, if you wanted to!
Its easy enough to disable the recording limit on a a6500 for that to be a main point.
You can disable the recording limit on every camera and hack the raw video as well, but that's not the point. The point is that when the camera comes from the factory WITHOUT a rec limit, it means it's not over heating! :)
@@theTechNotice Recording limit had NOTHING to do with overheating. And for person so pompously reviewing cameras not to know it ... well it speaks volumes Just like "IBIS in lenses" 🤦🏼♂️
At any rate the recording limit literally 1 second under 30 min should have be all the cue needed for generally person with brain. This limit is there for taxation reasons.
I’m looking for an upgrade from Nikon D3400 I don’t know if I should get this 6400 or wait for the upcoming cameras.
Dipends what you need it for, there will always be cameras coming out, so you could wait forever. :)
The A6400 is from another world - no comparison. Cheap DSLR have more cons than pros. They do not have autofocus tune... while you do not need one on the mirrorless. If your lens is off...you cannot fix the focus.
Yes You're Right !!

well, few things to consider, a6400 is APS-C not FF like your a7III, will you notice it on video, YES! Will you notice it on photos, not that much unless you're shooting very low light situations.

I want to buy a camera for UA-cam .. I’ll be walking around with it so I feel like I need the ibis because I’m a beginner .. if the 6400 doesn’t have ibis will my footage be shakey? (I don’t have the skills to keep it steady) I have a GoPro and that’s the kinda stabilization I need. Can someone help me
Get the dji osmo pocket: amzn.to/2leyaV5
or

2 years with a6500 i still love it but not as a vlogging cam. Great if used with gimbal and behind the cam. stabilization with ibis + oss lens is very weak for vlogs and walking scenes , i sold all my native oss lens. Sony shouldve added digital IS to help with the shake.
Ben Cruz so you think a6400 better then a6500?
IBIS is not a big thing for you because you are a videographer? For photographers sometimes it is a big thing, specially shooting indoors and low light and not all e-mount lenses is stabilized.
agree its a great camera... regarding the screen , if it fliped out to the side its a nuisance , so i like the flip up screen ... you can get a small rig adapter to add a microphone on opposite side to screen so that kills that argument....
5:48 there is eye af in video recording? How do i enable this?
I dont think so....
@@SreekanthPDas Yeah... There is no eye af in video it seems like, only face detection, but its pretty good.
What the hell is this guy talking about then? Did I miss something here?
How is the 16mm sigma too tight for vlogging? Haven't heard that one before. It's arguably the best vlogging lens for the crop sensor
16mm x crop factor (1.5x) = 24mm FF equiv.
I personally have found 24mm sometimes too tight, and gone back to the classic 16-35mm to get the nice wide angle. :)
@@theTechNotice you're correct as it being an equivalent focal length as 24mm on a FF. But 16-35 is the same on a crop sensor unless you're referring to using on a FF. I agree with it being the best for that wide shot. I personally use the Tamron 17-28 on FF and Sigma 16 on my Crop sensor
Have you seen vlogs using OSS lenses? it's not only shaky but also looks like jelly cake all over the place (rolling shutter is really bad, which you failed to mention). also I'm not sure it has real time eye tracking in video. are you sure about this one?
Perfect content i prefer to buy a6400 tomorrow. Thank you so much!
You're welcome! :)
The exit got you the sub. Love it!
👍🙂
A6400 is extremely attractive, finally someone gets it
Sony need make the screen just like Fuji XT100 (tilty flippy)
indeed mate! :)
does the XT100 flip to the side as well?
@@theTechNotice Yes it does!
@@theTechNotice Yes. It articulates up and down on-axis, _and_ also flips out to the side. Fuji hit it out of the park with that.
