- Finidi George grabbed a brace as Real Betis beat Barcelona 3-1 at the Camp Nou in the 97/98 season.
George Finidi (born 15 April 1971), known as Finidi George, is a Nigerian professional football coach and former player who is currently the head coach of Nigeria Professional Football League club Enyimba F.C. As a player, he played as a right winger.
After making a name for himself at Ajax in the Netherlands - being a leading figure in a team which won eight major titles, including the 1995 Champions League - he played several years in Spain with Real Betis, also having a brief spell in England before retiring.
Finidi was an important member of the Nigeria team during the 1990s, appearing in two World Cups. Finidi played throughout his footballing career for Nigeria with his iconic number 7 jersey.
In September 2021, Enyimba F.C. named Finidi as their new head coach.
"Omo gidi ni Finidi." That's how the late Rashidi Yekini described him while analyzing his ball game. Finidi was a class act.
There was a time when he was the best no 7 in the world
When Nigeria had the best of every wing.....
I miss that Nigeria of Dreams
When politicians were not picking who plays for the national team. No religion or tribe involved.
@@benjaminfranklin9967
Politicians were picking them too at the time.
We just had too many good players for them to pick from.
@@Africafactsguy Not true. Stop encouraging nonsense
We should start celebrating pre-social media heroes of football. They are the true legends
They are the last real footballers!
No we shouldn't celebrate these heroes now at the expense of present generation ones. Every one gets attention and remuneration that is equivalent to the present time. You can't reverse time
Best 7 in the whole world in his time. Well done. He was a champion league winner in Ajax
what??? Finidi couldn't even lace Roberto Donadoni's boots.
@@Baresi-Unico-Capitano what are you smoking?
@@immertoll1 are you trying to compare finidi to donadoni?? 🤣🤣🤣
@@Baresi-Unico-Capitano Donadonni was good but Finidi was better.
No doubt about that
@@mallokribi3326 hahahahahhahahahahahahahha
The coach was proud...
And big respect to the guy that gave the second assist.
He was the best winger in Europe at the time ahead the likes of Figo.
No he wasnt
Capping
He was, he s the best then
Finidi George played for Ajax Betis and Ipswich, he wasn't even the best winger in Africa, Abedi Pele, Giggs, Luis Enrique, Overmars, Donadoni , McManaman, Mutinis Zenden
Lmao. He was class yes but was never the best 😂!!! Fact you said ahead of Figo who constantly got nominated or was amongst shortlist for world best and Ballon D’or is clownish..
Wow what a great memory and a great African football legend to remember.
Real Beltis actually won the Spanish cup that season👆🔥😎
Finidi Gorge was considered to be one of the best right wingers of all times in history of world football not just in Africa cuz he won Uefa Champions league with Ajax, Won Spanish cup with Real betis and also won African nations cup with super eagles of 🇳🇬🇳🇬❤️.
The best ever assembled Super Eagles ..the pride of Africa in the 90's .
Finidi was an amazing player during the golden age of Nigerian greats... so underrated as a result
The prime of Nigerian footballers! Samson Sia Sia, Tijjani Babandiga,Daniel Amokachi,Viktor Ikpeba,Garba Lawal ...
He was pass master, and he got his turn to be passed to. Well played Finito.
We come from a line of superb players now chukwueze is also shining, Nigeria is a blessed nation 🇳🇬🇳🇬❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯there's more to come from this nation we have so much raw footballing talent waiting to be discovered
He had the supernal advantage of two strong feet
Hmmmm
Very few players can interchangeably use both feet.
...had no idea how two-footed he was. Remarkable how confident (and accurate) he was at shooting from outside the box - the sort of thing you never see these days. Na wa.
A great footballer in he's days
😭 when are we going to see such glory days again
Football Academy
Soon.
Never understood why he didn't play for any top clubs, while all other players from Ajax 94-95 went to only elite clubs (even mediocre players like Reiziger and Bogarde playing here for Barça). Maybe he was too modest, his goal against Bayern in the semi-final CL is one of the purest things of beauty I have ever seen, and at such an important moment.
Apparently, he almost signed for Real Madrid but Betis proposed a better offer to Ajax. Keep in mind Betis signed Denilson a while later as the most expensive player, so they were probably in a better financial situation back then: www.goal.com/en-ng/news/finidi-george-real-madrid-couldn-t-afford-nigeria-legend-s-transfer-from-ajax/bltbaa6677b3a349d99
He scored less than 70 goals in nearly 300 club appearances. That's why.
@@Baresi-Unico-Capitanostill a better average than David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, and Luis Figo (according to wikipedia)
@@kayvaldo so he was a better player than giggs and FIGO??
@@Baresi-Unico-Capitano I'm saying your argument is false since he had a better scoring average than those guys. Also, he was considered the best right winger in Europe at one point during his Ajax days
Living legend ❤
At his peak in 1995/96, he was the best winger in the world along with Beckham...
He was the only world class player we ever produced in my view
Yeah, he was world class. Perhaps along with Figo. I don't think Beckham had burst into the limelight then
Kanu and Okocha were jokes to you right?
Emmanuel Amunike,
Victor ikpeba (Prince of Monaco)
Daniel Amokachi
Jay Jay Okocha
Kanu Nwankwo
Peter Rufai
We had them All
The rating of the Nigerian Team in The PlayStation Wining Eleven was Fire
Yekini is joke to u rt? Go watch as Yekini destroyed real Madrid in his days .
The real world class was Okacha and Kano, Ronaldiho idolized Okocha, skills inventor
Wow. Legendary
My ijaw brother and legend from Bayelsa
I think his whole team had great players great passes to him great team work
Its the year 2023 and we still have video quality like this -.-
He was the bes at communicating with aliens about the value of football to earthlings😢
Those were the best players Africa had
Finidi one v one nobody could beat him Inc Maldini, Costacurta, Baresi. I grew up watching him. 94/95, We beat AC Milan 3 times in the same CL season Inc the Final. 5-0 in aggregate.
They called him the gazelle
left and right
Finito.....
Who else used to play winning eleven 3 and 4 with nigeria 😊
I used to play Winning Eleven 4 but rarely used Finidi on the wings. That was exclusively for Amokachi and Babangida to cross for Kanu in the center.
In His days
He was a good player ,but past his best at my club Ipswich.
Que alegría me da ver perder al Robalona, y encima con el gran Luis Aragonés.
Check his CL performance for ajax vs Madrid in bernabeu. He eas unplayable that day
Finidi George, the Prince of Monaco.
That was Victor Ikpeba
Enorme 💚🙏
He played for Ipswich Town in 2001 but didnt really make an impact
And Oshimen had the balls to disrespect this guy because of the change he gets in Italy?
Was Ferrer the captain in this game?
No, Figo was
@@kayvaldo ok I just thought I saw the captain sleeve on Ferrer 😊
@@torstensandvei4973 it's possible Figo was substituted. I see Ferrer with it at 1:50
Was absolutely dreadful for Ipswich
Meh.. in winning eleven 4, nobody cares about Finidi. Just put Babangida and Amokachi as strikers and you have very high chance of winning every tournament. Except if your opponent is brazil with roberto carlos on the front
we used to play 3 in attack. Babangida and Amokachi on the wings and Kanu (197cm) in the center. so we would just run down the wings and cross for Kanu.
Finidi was jealous of Yekini
Don't be ridiculous.
Yes, we had great stars, best of the bests in their era.
But they set so soon because they were always older than what they claimed.
All you got to say about them? You forgot the CAF suspension for 4 years because of the then President Abacha, which didn't let them play together as often as they would? Most of them also had been playing for long before you got to know about them. Rising stars like Jay Jay and Kanu lasted because they were younger. Don't try to run them down.
@@basseybassey1979
No one runs them down. I just said what I thought was the reason why the European football stars always have a longer reign.

No, I think he'd left by then
Look at these naijja boys. 2 goals and 2 shots. What was so shocking.wasted my time for this nonsense
Hahahaha, no comment….average at best.
I get it. This video isn't about how great he was or a MOTM performance. It's about a huge away win for Real Betis at the Camp Nou in which he scored twice.
the guy is an idiot analysing that time with todays game. football has evolved since then
Alfonso up front for Betis. First player to wear white boots!
yeah, he was the first one I saw too and they were quite unique back then
The first player to wear a white boot, was Paolo Roberto Falcao of Brazil. In the Unicef game Europe against Rest of the world after World cup 1982.
